Hi. I found this guidebook pertaining to Assault Suits Valken (link:http://g.e-hentai.org/g/674677/24134d908e/). There are mechanical profiles from p.18-23 and 27, and I was wondering, can someone here please translate?
I think those did get translated already.
I'm pretty convinced I used to even have that stuff, but I lost most of my mecha stuff when my HD crashed.

>>I think those did get translated already.
They have? Where then?
>>11676019
I think some guy just translated them and posted 'em on 4chan. You could check the archives, but I'm guessing they won't be available outside of thumbnails naymore.
>>11676022
Found it, and cannot access thumbnails.
Also, bump.
Was there a relationship between Valken and Metal Warriors? I don't remember right now.
>MW/h
So their power just keeps increasing?
>>11677038
There isn't.

According to Hardcore Gaming (take it for whatever it's worth) there wasn't official connection.

And that's all. The original batch didn't have >>11676057 AFAIK.

But while I'm at it, have the rest in purdy colors.

Well, not ALL of them, unfortunately. This is the last one I have in color.

What exactly do "EAFE" and "USPR" mean?
>>11677538
Thanks for the translations!

Konami makes Assault Suits Valken. Konami then turns around and then asks Lucas Arts to make a similar game. Metal Warriors uses many of the same assets and likely has the same engine as ASV. This is why they feel so similar. In terms of plot, there is no connection.
>>11678908
>and likely has the same engine as ASV
I'm not so sure about that. Valken's pretty tight while Metal Warrior feels really slippery. They're almost totally different aside from the genre, I think.
>>11677967
USPR is listed in the bottom corner, United States Pacific Rim. Not sure about the EAFE, but one of those "E"s are probably Europe, seeing as the character pics list nationalities of the three enemy dudes as being from Germany, Austria, and Belgium.
>>11678908
AFAIK Konami only published Valken, and only in the west as Cybernator. I've never seen anything linking them to the original Japanese release or development.
So while them wanting a similar game is quite possible, sharing an engine not so much, and I can't recall any shared assets.
And to specify, German dude is Berdach in >>11679249,
the red unit enemy pilot you keep running into, Geltz is the Austrian asteroid base commander who you fight in stage 3, and Schermark the president who end up shooting himself (which was cut from Cybernator) in the final stage, who is Belgian.
>>11679256
>>(which was cut from Cybernator)
Almost all of the in-mission dialogue and the character portraits were cut from Cybernator.
Valken's got tons of setting notes and stuff for an hour-long sidescrolling shooter. Makes you wonder if they wanted to do more with it.
>>11680761
tons of fluff was a big thing for games going back a ways
like how Xevious has backstory, a made-up language, all sorts of stuff
>>11680761
Valken was more than just one sidescrolling shooter.
>>11681063
I think maybe you meant this?
Best Assault Suits game coming through
>>11681975
I heard you like customization too
>>11681975
I heard there's going to be a remake for the first game.
>>11682039
Yep me too, too bad it's on the PS4 only, wished they'd make it for Steam too.
>>11682047
I wonder if they're gonna ask Urushihara again for the chara designs, guy hasn't worked in forever, he was great.
>>11679249
>>11679256
Any translations on those profiles?
>>11682047
>>PS4 only
Annoying. That's something that could have been released on everything out there for max coverage.
>>11682358
None that I'm aware of, but most everything is in English, anyway. The only things that aren't are ranks and nationalities.
Ranks are stated in the game, for the latter, three have been covered, for the rest, Jake is Canadian, Crea is Japanese, and Chack is Mexican.
>>11682383
Cross gen games are cancer. Forcing titles to be compatible with last gen means more development time to make it work on older hardware, less time spent on actually developing the title and making it better, and slowing adoption of new generation.
>>11677640
>>11683917
Because adapting a HD remaster of a 2D game between x86 based platforms requires so much resources.
>>11682053
>>ask Urushihara again
I recall people joking at the fact that Crea was one of the few female designs made by Urushihara that he has not drawn naked
>>11685448
>8800 yen for a potentially 3 hours long game if you suck at it like me
Must have sucked to live in Japan
>>11685464
Arguably, around 50 bucks stateside wouldn't be all that good either. Or maybe a bit more, IIRC weren't SNES games a bit pricier than Genesis stuff? But that's what you (or perhaps more likely, your parents) paid, because that's how it was back then.
Of course, you probably also didn't have a bunch of games you probably only half played or not even opened laying around either.
Every time I see anything related to Valken, I'm always reminded of another, similar mecha game but with more colorful, Gundam-like designs.
Could anyone refresh my memory?
>>11687390
For what system was it? Could that have been Metal Warriors?
>>11687412
AH. Just going through a Valken image search pointed me to what I was looking for: Wolf Fang. Or, known outside Japan as Rohga: Armor Force
This and the Valken series are among the retro games I'd like to get my hands on the most
>>11687431
That makes more sense then.
Some of the staff from Valken went on to make Front Mission: Gun Hazard. It's also a great game. Dat OST...

Why would you do this to us, let alone yourself
>>11690948
Interesting fact about Gun Hazard:
http://tcrf.net/Front_Mission:_Gun_Hazard
Turns out there's a extreme right-winger rant that's used as a voice sample in the ending. The part after the credits where you get the stinger with Genoce. I guess they heard it in a song and didn't figure out what it actually meant until it was too late.
