Armageddon was a blast.

I remain annoyed at New for a lot of reasons (GETTER 1 GETTER 1 GETTER 1 GETTER 1 GETTER 2 GETTER 1), but it wasn't absurdly horrible.

Toei series was good, at least the original was for the half of the show I've seen.

It does have a really good one, but I'm loathe to call it the absolute best. Probably because I hear that damn opening theme in every SRW and they never use the kickass ending theme (IT WAS IN ALPHA 3, WHY DO YOU NOT LET US USE IT?) or any other theme.

Original Gundam actually had a really good soundtrack.

If they ever make another Getter OVA, I'd want it to be more based on the manga story and I'd especially want Jun Kawagoe to have absolutely nothing to do with it. That's the most important thing.

It keeps me up at night wondering if Getter Robo Armageddon could have been one of my top five favorite animes if Imagawa had stayed on. Those first three episodes are fantastic.

Well i just finished watching the getter ova's myself, and i havent tried reading the manga yet
I'd say New > Armageddon > NvS
I cant really fault New because i got exactly what i wanted out of it (shouting, manliness, giant robots) and enjoyed every episode from start to finish. The english dub wasnt too bad either (although its till better subbed) and im probably gay for that version of Ryoma
Armageddon had an okay first episode, 2-3 were shit, and afterwards it got steadily better until STONE SUNSHINE. The last few episodes are still great but i dont feel they get any better than that moment.
Neo vs Shin Getter Robo was a a bit goofier than the others but i still enjoyed it a lot. The Getter 3 pilot is my favorite out of all the ones in the OVA's as well. I was pretty disappointed that there was no actual Neo vs Shin fight though, and i thought the show was at its best in the first few minutes (up until the theme song ends, Musashi vs the reptile army was so fucking awesome). The final fight was a bit underwhelming as well. Texas Mack is the best thing about Neo vs Shin though.

Armageddon > New > Shin vs. Neo
Armageddon was absolutely fucking fantastic. especially the attacks (STONAAAAAA SUUUUUUUNSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE)
New was pretty damn decent, but the ending was ech, and they used Getter 1 too much

Watching the OVAs before reading the manga is a mistake. Can you do it? Sure. But its undoubtedly better to read the manga first. Why? Because it methodically builds up to the mystery of Getter energy and is the only series with a consistent basis. However, if you watch the OVAs first, you'll completely spoil yourself concerning this aspect of the manga (which is THE biggest plot hook in the actual series) because Kawagoe just liked to throw in a bunch of important scenes from the manga without actually putting them into their context. Watching the OVAs spoils the manga. Simple as that. This is coming from someone who watched the OVAs long before the manga was ever being scanlated. It's as stupid move and I only wish I'd had the privilege of reading the original story first. And yet here you are deny that luxury with your foolishness.

Arc has no ending, but Go works fine as an ending. It makes more sense to read the manga first because the OVAs draw heavily from it, to the point of copying scenes.

I came across Armageddon while looking for a sexily animated robot anime. Not only did I get that, but I also discovered a series that was utterly fantastic. Since Armageddon was my gateway it's fucking amazing to me, even though I knew nothing about it. I read up on what it was before watching so I wouldn't be totally lost though, and now I am making my way through the stuff.
