I saw this in a recommendation thread ages ago.
Is this a good overall selection on the best of Toku?
I dunno, man, some of those suggestions are really out there.
I mean, I liked Sh15uya, sure, but to consider it the "best of toku" and suggest it to someone new to the genre? And Kamen Rider ZO... again, can't say it is a BAD movie, but really?
I'd say it's a good overview of what TV toku has to offer. You got serious stuff, you got your goofy comedy, you get decent stories and you get shows with great choreography. It's a solid general buffet.
The list has Agito, easily one of the worst (if not THE worst) tokusatsu series I've seen in the past 15 years, and almost unanimously panned (besides the one persistent agito troll). The list has Gouraigan, which I assume you're aware of how bad it is. The list has bottom-of-the-barrel shit like Keitai, Sh15uya, and Cutie Honey, which are mediocre at absolute best.
It's an incredibly obvious bait list to encourage shitty ranking threads like these. And as you can see, I have fallen right into its trap, because I'm wasting time writing this in a bait thread. Thanks Obama. Good day to you.
>The list has Agito, easily one of the worst (if not THE worst) tokusatsu series I've seen in the past 15 years, and almost unanimously panned (besides the one persistent agito troll).
At least one part of this statement is factually wrong.
>The list has Agito, easily one of the worst (if not THE worst) tokusatsu series I've seen in the past 15 years,
I've only seen like 5 episodes but G3 is one best rider suits of all time.
It's just a picture of one guy's favourites. There's some good and some not so good on there, in my opinion.
>almost unanimously panned
By whom? (citation needed)
I won't contest that G3 is awesome, both suit and character. But that doesn't even come close to saving the trainwreck that is Agito. It's worse than Faiz and Kiva combined in my humble opinion.
First of all, it's not a henshin hero show, but it pretends to be. However, in reality, it's a shitty j-drama about a bunch of really ugly actors making really bad attempts at what I am told is called "acting", but I'm not so sure of that. To top it off, Inoue is involved, who caused famous trainwrecks like the terrible Faiz, the painful Kiva, the polarizing Agito, and the overrated Jetman. Just don't waste time with it when there are other, much better shows that are guaranteed to interest you.
Here's my recommendations off the top of my head:
Heisei Rider: Den-O, OOO, W, Kuuga (stay away from Faiz, Agito, Kiva, Wizard, Decade)
Showa Rider: Original KR, Stronger, Amazon, Black (Stay away from Skyrider, Black RX, Shin)
Heisei Sentai: Gekiranger, Magiranger, Shinkenger (Stay away from Go-Busters)
Showa Sentai: Changeman, Liveman, Flashman, Battle Fever J (Stay away from JAKQ, Goggle-V, Turboranger)
Heisei Ultraman: Tiga, Dyna, Max, Mebius (Stay away from Nexus, Ginga)
Showa Ultraman: Original Ultraman, Ultraseven, Leo (stay away from Ultraman 80)
Metal Heroes: Literally all great shows, may or may not like Jiraiya
Other Heisei toku: Garo, Tomica Hero trilogy, ChouSeiShin trilogy, Cybercop, Gridman, Guyferd, Tekkouki Mikazuki, Voicelugger, WoO
Other Showa toku: Zubat, Kikaider, Inazuman, Koseidon, Lion-Maru series, Mirrorman, Poitrine
Oh, and pic related series if you don't mind CHING CHONG LING LONG.
If that isn't a good enough list to get started, then you don't deserve toku.
Replace Gekiranger with Gokaiger, and Hibiki with Kabuto, and it's pretty solid. Gouraigan is pretty eeehhhhhh though.
Armor Hero sucks though, there's a definite focus on selling toys, and the secondary Chinese dub is pretty horrible [bilingual fag here]. One of the weirder cases where the English dub is actually better, because the ADR is pretty much on par with current Power Rangers.
imo Bima is slightly better than the Armor Hero franchise.
>The list has Agito, easily one of the worst (if not THE worst) tokusatsu series I've seen in the past 15 years, and almost unanimously panned (besides the one persistent agito troll)
>half the rider fandom = one agito troll
>easily one of the worst (if not THE worst) tokusatsu series I've seen in the past 15 years, and almost unanimously panned
Das not Wizard
ZO is well worth a watch, if only for this moment. It's also the best of the three movies from the 90s. However, ZX is easily the best standalone movie.
>However, ZX is easily the best standalone movie.
What? It's way too short and most of ZX's story itself comes in the form of a recap. Most of the final battle isn't that great either, with the monsters going down way too easily.
Honestly I don't get why Agito gets so much love either
I mean, I liked it, but if I were to rank the Riders I've watched, it would be in the middle
G3-X is one of the best Rider designs though
I always thought of Agito as just solid.
No hard beginning like Blade, no hard ending like Faiz or Kabuto.
It stops looking as nice as it did in the beginning, but if you liked the first episode of Agito, you'll probably like all of it. Same with Kuuga.
How did the Imagins become able to freely walk around?
How did Climax form actually happen?
These are all questions that will be answered when someone steps up to the bat and finishes subbing Den-O
You can watch it if you have decent knowledge of english and know you're watching shitsubs.
Except episode 25 where the scripts are timed bad by a two minutes IIRC.
Still, pretty good.
It doesnt decide what the fuck it is.
It tries to be a parody of sentai sometimes, but with 5 monsters instead of warriors. Fails at it.
It tries to be slice-of-life comedy. It's japanese, so it fails at it.
It has fights, which are shit.
It tries to have a "plot" about romance which is generic, predictable, overdone and badly executed.
It tries to be 2mature4u by putting random sex scenes which make no sense, so it's another fail.
The show tries hard but delivers absolutely nothing. I mean, at least fucking Wizard had decent action and suit designs. And when Wizard is better than you, there's a problem.
Not to mention the bad romance plot is some regugitated Misunderstandings material that grates horrible on your nerves and detracts even more from anything even minorly successful it pulled off earlier in the series.
Akibaranger needs to be there and I would go with Kabuto rather than Hibiki, personally despite loving the whole type of monsters, kinda like Kamen Rider Monster Hunter, I find the show a bit of a struggle to get through.
Sh15uya had one of the worst endings I've ever seen, but it was a pretty cool show.
I would add Kamen Rider Black and replace Den-O with OOO. Also, if there's room, Madan Senki Ryukendo is a pretty solid show.
Ryuki barely passes the threshold of mediocre. Gokaiger is either terrible or amazing, all dependent on how many Sentai series you have seen. Go-Busters is literally the worst toku I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing.
It pretty much shits on everything good about sentai and ends up being fanservice for neets with japanese humor which is one of the worst there is. Only neets and weeaboos can actually think it's good.
Abaranger, Dekaranger, Magiranger, and Gekiranger are all interchangeable in terms of quality.
OP probably just picked the one he liked the most but honestly you could pick any one of them and get the same level of enjoyment out of it. A good solid four series.
2001 through 2008 was the era of Sentais that weren't any better or worse then each other and were all good.
>shitty Xaviax picture in the Ryuki section
>Impyling Hibiki only has 30 episodes and recommending Hibiki at all
>Pice of Shit Kamen Rider W
>Even more wring this with this
Even if it's an attempt o obe funny this si retarded
>It's hard to believe that someone could unintentionally have different opinions than me.
Not really sure how my "garbage" posting is any worse than your constant need to police my interests, but ok.
There are great selections in there, but there are some awful ones too.
Kamen Rider W
Kamen Rider Kuuga
Kamen Rider Agito
Kamen Rider Ryuki
ZO is eh, Fourze is alright, Garo is tryhard, and Gekiranger is great for the first 25 episodes.
Not him but I wouldn't put it as the best sentai series. I would put it as a decent to good sentai series though. Jan is a bit too much of a polarizing character, and gets way too much focus. And I say this as someone who loves Jan quite a bit.
Huh. I honestly didn't realize there were people who didn't automatically rank Geki at least in their top 5. There isn't even a close second for me, but if there were, it would be either Magiranger or Shinkenger. And if we go Showa, I'd say Changeman or Liveman are the best.
Space Sheriff Gavan is pretty good too and has aged well. Too bad every sub group ever always drops it.
The worst thing I have ever heard about Agito is that the middle is a bit slow and the "villain"'s main idea to off mankind was wonky. You wana know what he rated Agito? 4/5. That is the WORST I've ever heard about Agito until you.
I want a sauce to this 'unanimous' thing.
I hate hearing that, considering the base idea is great. It almost felt like Akumaizer 3 in a way with the idea of "the heroes are the very monsters they fight."
Before anyone throws Kamen Rider in there, he was too different in concept and design from the kaijin.
By nobody you mean Amerifats, right? Please kill yourself and take Saban with you.
I have 100% no nostalgiac attachment to either of those, actually. I didn't even see them until this year. The Jetman writing (minus
Gai's bullshit death) was far beyond any other Sentai, the villains alone being the best Sentai has ever had. Then the fights? Glorious.
Dairanger is intricate on so many levels, bringing together characters of all walks of life and creating a force out of them. The pure mystery of the show alone keeps it engaging throughout the series.
Would you say it's the best of the Space Sheriff shows? Sharivan is usually forgotten and Shaider is loved nearly exclusively by the Phillipines, so Gavan's usually the only one people mention.
Yeah, Liveman has full subs. Good ones too. Fantastic villains, mechs and suits.
Jus found all of Liveman on Youtube (I know, I know). First episode was pretty good, albeit a little rushed. The villains don't really have any backstory right now, but they are unbelievably cool. The action is excellent.
>You just used like four different fallacies in one post trying to tell him how stupid he is. I would laugh if it weren't sad.
Tell me more about what you learned in english class last year.
>implying anything I said is remotely intellectual
Tell me, samefriend Amerifat. Are logical fallacies seriously not common knowledge in your country? Do they seriously have to teach you that shit in school? No wonder your country is full of religious fundamentalists. It must be easy for them over there.
I like how your ego is so massive that you can't possibly be insulted by two individuals.
Also, the rest reads as
>Let me insult the culture you possibly are. Now I will try to say things that imply that I wasn't trying hard before, and I will try even harder now in hopes that you do not see that. Now I will insult your education because I was retarded enough to solely go after intellect when this is a site made entirely by opinions. Again, let me assume that you are from a specific country in the hopes that you will actually take offense to any of these things I've said. Please notice me.
Don't worry Anon, you've been noticed. Noticed for being a tremendous tryhard faggot.
