Why is American literature concerned with reality and hardship (Steinbeck, Hemmingway, Twain, Lee) whereas English literature is founded in fantasy (Tolkeinn, Lewis, Carroll, Shelly, White)?
>>
Yes those were the only English authors ever. No, Twain had no interest in fantasy. Adventure and whimsy just wasn't his style.
>>
Read some books, then try not to ask stupid questions. Unfortunately, your knowledge of literature seems to be so poor that you are actually telling us that England has only 5 writers and they all write fantasy. Surprise. How about Dickens, how about Emily Bronte, how about the fucking rest of them?
>>
If I had to live in England I'd daydream too
>>
What is a Dickens hurr
What is a Lovecraft durr
>>
I think I got dumber by reading your question.

England is a shithole and the USA is and has been for a very long time the greatest country on earth. We focus on what is wrong with our society whereas brits want nothing but to escape theirs.

I think I see your point, even English histories have a heavy social gloss, even to the point where they come off as being either contemporary inventories or coffee table books. So even the most rigorous English books have a certain fantastic character.

It's not always a drawback though, if you view it as a contemporary document. We're always reassessing history, aren't we? At least the Englis had a serious interest in history at one time, could the same be said for America?

Ofc that's why there are only more and more problems piling up in your country und why you're sticking your nose in other peoples problems.
>>
because the UK has a strong folklore tradition which the USA lacks

US.A fell for the >genre fiction meme and has always been desperate to be taken seriously.

Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court was my favorite books growing up tbqhwyf.
>>
Almost all major British writers are Oxbridge educated, privileged and cloisetered in their bourgeois lives. Britain also has a stronger class system. America also has a long history of a myth of self-reinvention. Though they're tending to the same direction I think. Dickens is a notable exception.

You are triggered enough to answer OP's stupid question. I think that's because you know what he's asking, but you won't admit it. Some stubbourn intellectual pride (my dick is bigger than yours) is preventing you from understanding what you intuitively understand.

>whereas English literature is founded in fantasy (Tolkeinn, Lewis, Carroll, Shelly, White)

Those people are not representative of English literature
And 2 or 3 of them aren't representative of literature
>>
>because kitchen sink realism never happened

English literature has a long history of social realism, from Dickens to Alan Silitoe, Shelagh Delaney, Osborne etc

Because Catholicism (as your King Charles pic indicates)
>why American's reality & hardship
Protestant work ethic
>why English Fantasy
English church renounced Catholicism for Anglicism
Catholicism is a fantasy in itself 2spooky, English fantasy lit is just replacing what's now missing.
