What's the best translation of Robert Musil's "The Man Without Qualities"?
If I'm going to read a 1,000 page book I want to make sure I'm not getting cucked by a poor translation.
Picador: three volumes edition
Vintage: two volumes
Picador: one volume edition
The options seem to be the older Kaiser one split into three volumes.
The newer Pike one in two volumes with a bunch of notes and extra material added.
From what I've read online (Musil forums) the older one is truer to the original while the newer appears to make things less complex and more "weird" for the sake of it (re-titling some parts etc)
