I'd say skip all the superhero shit. You seem pretty passionate about them, however. Watchmen might even be worth a read, provided it was an actual novel and not it's crippled yet pretty sister, the graphic novel.

I agree with skipping Year One.

If you want a Batman story about him early on go with Zero Year. Hands down some of the most beautiful art I've ever seen in a comic.
