You're clearly literally retarded
Dismissed

I really liked the movie Witches of Eastwick, but the book was stupid.
>>
>>7635967
Check out this guy
>>
>>7636005
Have you seen Witches of Breastwick? It's like Witches of Eastwick, but softcore porn. Also good: The Hills Have Thighs.

Disagree on Garcia Marquez and baudrillard. Rest I agree whole heartedly with or can at least see the angle.

I personally like nietzsche and pkd.

Pretty good for a /lit/ hate post senpai.

Cool senpai
>>
>>7637189

I like PKD but you'd be silly to not acknowledge his body of work is extremely uneven.
>>
>>7637193
that's not what hack means.
>>
>>7637749
we're on /lit/ pal. "hack" just means anyone i don't like.
>>
>>
>>7635710

>>
>>7637765
>>7637749
You guys don't know what it means either. No one mentioned in this thread is a hack (except John Lennon)
>>
Updike had some talent he just didn't know how to use it in a controlled, disciplined, artful way. He threw shit against the wall and what stuck stuck.

His whole brand of writing, autobiographical suburban white guy novels of experience, personal feelings, and identity, has taken a huge hit critically. People realized these type of writers don't deserve their reputations, but instead of taking it out back and shooting it, they simply elevated into its place equally unimaginative minority and female writers of autobiographical experience, personal feelings, and identity. The viewing of literature through this lens, this belief that this is what literature is, is what gave a perceived legitimacy to "we've heard enough from white guys!" Neither are concerned with style, form, language, aesthetic, ideas, touching the universal, transcending the page, etc etc.
>>
>>7635825
He was goyische as all hell
>>
>>7637898
>white guy
stopped reading here
>>
>>7637886
traditionally a hack is just any writer who writes for money. Journalists, biographers, genre writers, bestseller writers
>>
>>7635967
Wrong about literally every single one

This is pure contrarianism
>>
>>7635967
are you the same person on /b/ demanding pictures of black dicks and cuckolding
>>
>>7637924
found the redditor
>>
>>7637904
That and they have their one "trick" that they do over and over. Like for stephen king it's horror juxtaposed with americana, he has that and churns out novel after novel based on it.
>>
>>7635967
>Descartes
>Abélard
>Malebranche
>Merleau-Ponty
>Bergson
>Levinas

>hacks
I almost thought you were serious
>>
>>7637936

That's long since become far worse than its target. Literally destroying the village in order to save it.
>>
>>7637898
Christ. get a grip.

that's too obvious. might as well say murakami and camus. seems redundant right?
>>
>>7635748

Weirdly, he is actually the WASPiest person (genetically and cultural) who may have ever lived.

The OP is an edgelord if he doesn't recognize that Updike's prose alone would justify his being considered good, even if everything else sucked (which I might accept).
>>
>>7636573

If you can explain one single idea of Derrida's I will shit into my own mouth. French philosophy from the modern era onward is the epitome of pretentious meaningless jabber.
>>
>>7638397
>just because you don't understand it
>>
>>7638399

>asks for an explanation
>someone who understand would be able to do this easily
>refusing because you know that you don't understand Derrida either

So transparent. It's like you're trying to prove his point. In all likelihood you're the guy to whose post you 'responded'.

>>7635967
(You)

>>7635710
Updike, Mailer and Vidal are like the anti-meme trinity. Big famous American authors that /lit/ pretty much never mentions. Is it a generational thing? Too recent to be established classics, not recent enough to still be popular?
>>
>>7638508
Mailer was too flashy and sensational to not settle into retrospective banality. Yes it's generational.
