personally i liked it a lot because it helped me navigate my struggles with addiction and also the conflict between sincerity and irony that seems to be such a large part of being a thinking person in the world today

plus the plots are cool and there's lots of half-to-3/4-funny parts and his names and ways of describing characters are really good and some of the technology he predicts is pretty funny and accurate, etc etc

Quit getting so buttmad, Infinite Jest is like the Giver with its ham-handed themes but the author sprinkled some random words from a thesaurus like septuagenarian and disdyakis triacontahedron so people who wasted their youth in grad schools (like him) could scrawl footnotes on his footnotes in his book about junior tennis and Quebecois separatism (yawn).
