>>7610693 Well unfortunately this brand of leftism (or left liberalism, really) is the only popularly relevant motion going on the left right now. As well, I feel that the popularity this strain of thought has among the left (I have seen anarchists even praising blacklivesmatter and etc) betrays the fundamental decadence and cowardice of leftism generally. Nietzsche was correct entirely in this regard and so i go with no ideological home.
I read it, it wasn't very good but it didn't take long to read and his prose can be good at times. I think it's worth reading just so you understand his views (which will be co-opted by many others). Plus you can pirate the ebook
>>7610669 Then don't read it. You can find the same arguments presented in more concise ways. That strain of the left has done a great job standardizing their thought, so you can pick up on their arguments pretty easily.
>>7610082 The only reason to read it is to contemporary Western leftism. The ideas themselves are retarded (IMO), but TNC's book will give you as coherent an explication of them as you're likely to find. If you don't care about that, don't read it.
>>7610693 SJWism is only the removal of unprincipled exceptions to progressive doctrine. Lawrence Auster was right.
>>7611115 I sort of agree with this, but the book puts them all in one place if you don't feel like trolling through tons of shitty blogs and opinion columns, plus if you often get into political discussions being able to refer to a book by a specific author is better than "well I read a blog post about this somewhere".
>>7611210 >if you don't feel like trolling through tons of shitty blogs and opinion columns, plus if you often get into political discussions being able to refer to a book by a specific author is better than "well I read a blog post about this somewhere". Fair enough. As the popular author, his "lived experience" will be immediately relevant to the conversation. Their ideology isn't particularly deep, so you can gret the gist of it by reading a few articles and obnoxious tweets.
>>7611136 It's the logical conclusion of a left that has become cynical about the prospect of capitalism ending anytime soon.
>>7613474 i wonder if he got ahead through giving the bbc to various jewish editors, like that idiotic illegal immigrant who worked at the washington post despite not having a work authorization, that guy was a fag who bottomed his philipino ass all the way to the WaPo, maybe Coates did the same BBC style, i mean i know he has kids now, but the dude is ugly as fuck despite having dsl lips, i'm sure he fagged it up before he got enough money to pull a wife
did any one hear the this american life interview with him? it isn't about social justice or being black or anything, but he comes off as a tool. also, he claims black people came up with the term 'bourgie' [sp?].
pretty sure bourgie is a black slang yeah (that doesn't mean coates isn't a jack ass) but when the fuck did you hear a white person say "bourgie" before the jews turned mtv into a black culture minstrel show?
This guy didn't know who St. Augustine was in an interview, which may be a somewhat small nitpick but come the fuck on. If you're going to style yourself a confessional man of letters, you'd do well to know who the ur-confessional man of letters is. It isn't Western hegemony to know that. As >>7610688 said, I've never been much impressed with any of his Atlantic articles.
I've been meaning to read this book, but it's been passing through my local library too quickly.
>>7610663 Toni Morrison is a fine author but she is insufferable to listen to voice-wise, I heard her interview with Terry Gross on the radio earlier and it's like this slinking, slithery voice.
>>7613529 Yet another hilarious thing that Steve Sailer has pointed out is the transition from African-Americans identifying themselves metaphorically with the enslaved Hebrews (e.g., Go Down Moses) to literally identifying themselves with the pharaohs.
>Do you want to understand the literary roots of (left-wing) identity politics Yes >Do you want arguments that are highly effective in trolling people involved in (right-wing) identity politics Yes >Do you want workable solutions to today's problems No
>>7614763 Sailer is a half decent writer and an absolute shit tactician.
We tried his Sailer Strategy up here in Canada in the hopes the silent majority would get scared of mooslims and keep us conservatives in power. For every conservative vote we got we scared about four apathetic whites and disgruntled liberals into voting against us.
Turns out lots of whites are turned off by blatant identity-bating! Sailer can go soak his head.
