I vaguely recall making PDF conversions through Calibre? Just putting all images in a CBZ file (that's a renamed ZIP, so I guess simply ZIP works as well) and converting to PDF worked, I think?

It's fine for converting compatible formats (epub, mobi, html, to a lesser extent also to and from these some doc-type formats, lit, rti...?)
I imagine the conversion towards PDF would also work if you're converting text, not pictures.
