OP it's dystopian genre fiction, published 50 years after that was an acceptable thing to do, needless to say, it's horrible.

it's petty good but it's not his best work. Overrated. Remains of the Day, Buried Giant, and Unconsoled are superior. Buried Giant particularly is a more mature book than Never Let Me Go and employs similar devices. NLMG relies too heavy on sappy sentimentalism.
