I had a friend in high school who turned out to be a trans man. We became close confidants when I was 17/18, but I was a teenage junkie who couldn't handle her shit and I abused his trust in me for my own gain. He hates me now (mostly for the aforementioned shitty treatment I gave him, but partly because he ended up involved in radical left wing politics whereas I only became more jaded and libertarian-leaning). I think about how awful I was every single day and I don't think the regret is going to go away. I hope he's doing better these days.
