>$400 for a chink SKS
What's the overall condition of the rifle?
Is there any surface rust, is the rifling in good shape, is it still covered in cosmoline?
I paid $300 for pic related, but that was just under two years ago.
>>
>>35135340
its on armslist, theyre either all chinkshit or re arsenaled slavshit.
any other websites i should check out for one?
>>35135348
cant tell, there is only one picture of it and im not about to drive half an hour to fondle an old chinkshit rifle
>>
>>35135430
Can't you contact the seller and ask for pictures?
>>
Check your Local gun stores, much better place to look for milsurp rifles.

I lucked out and got a Tula in pretty good shape for $400 the other day. I also seen a Yugo for $350 and a Norinco for $300. All the online shops have is the bottom of the barrel and "Range Grade" rifles priced about $75-100 over their actual value.

>tfw want more SKS's but they're becoming stupidly expensive

I got pic related for $300 from an estate sale last October. I know people bitch about how it's not from the cool factory AKA 26 and how it has a stamped trigger guard instead of milled, but it looks pretty as hell (not a single dent on it), and it shoots great.
>>
>>35135855
>his SKS has a factory mark
>he actually knows where his SKS was made
I bet you have all matching serial numbers too, faggot.
>>
>>35136022

That one does. It's 100% matching and runs smooth as butter, so long as it doesn't have a mountain of shit in it. I've never had it slam fire or give me problems with ammo either, even with the crappy stuff.

From what I'm told, the old guy who previously owned it had like 5 of them, but I didn't get around to the estate sale until only that one was left.

I'd love an izhevsk, nice ones sure are spendy though
>>
>>35136050

Aesthetically, they're gonna have differences (different wood, different finish, etc). If you mean performance-wise, they will both eat through any steel ammo you feed them, and they'll all shoot more or less identically unless they're damaged.

Go look at them closely with a nice bright light, feel them, and so on. Go with the one that looks/feels nicer to you.
>>
>>35135291
great first gun. go for it.
>>
>>35136044
Even though >>35135348 looks like it's been beaten to shit, it still works completely fine, save for the bayonet popping free if it's folded back when the trigger is pulled. Congratulations on your purchase though, it looks beautiful.
>>
>>35136068

Sorry I meant the Chinese SKS, mixing up my types.
>>
>>35136085

I see SKS as cheap guns where the finish doesn't matter to me anyway. I guess chink SKS is the way to go.
>>
>>35136191

Be sure to check all the stuff related to performance (crown condition, chamber condition, bore condition, etc). As an American who lusts for Russian SKS's, I'd say just grab the Russian one for the hell of it.

>>
>>35138391
I have the stock mag tucked away in my parts bin. I honestly would have put the stock mag back in by now if my fucking trigger group wasn't such a bitch to get back in.

I literally have to smash that bitch back into place with a rubber mallet in order to get it over that little latch (yes, it's on saftey).
>>
>>35138432

I never had to use massive force with mine. I could get it on and off by using the toolkit in the stock with a few light taps from a mallet.
>>
>>35138507
The weight of two fully grown men couldn't get mine on. I spent over a half an hour fucking around with it before looking up a video to make sure I wasn't doing it wrong and proceeded to rage when the guy simply snapped his in with light pressure. My latch is just way too stiff.
>>
>>35138539

Wait, it needs force to put it back on? The fuck? Mine just snaps back in. It needs a bit of tapping to come OFF, putting it back in is just an easy one two process.

>>
>>35138552
Well aren't you lucky? Yes, in order to get mine back on I have to literally give it one big smash with a rubber mallet for it to get over the latch. It was difficult to get off too but I was able to do that by myself with the buttstock toolkit.

The guy at the gun shop was dumbfounded too. That's just Chinese manufacturing for ya.
>>
>>35138614

Is it possible that the latch (the curved metal strip you have to smack with a punch) is too curved and/or too wide for its hole? You could try buying another one for a few bucks to try.

I actually had a Yugo Mauser that absolutely refused to get its front band on without using violent force. I just bought a pack of 3 bands for $10, and one of them fit like a glove.

Your stock might not be properly fitted.

The way I put mine back on is by flipping the gun upside down (on carpet) and pushing down on it with my bodyweight.
>>
>>35135291
>commshit
no mate.
>>
>>35138674
I'll look into it but I don't think it's too wide or curved. There just isn't much horizontal play in it. Basically it's just really stiff.

>>35138769
Try these mags instead. They are actually pretty decent.
https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/sks-762x39mm-magazine-30-rounds?a=244502

>>35138837
That's how we did it too except on a table and we had the two of us pushing down on the trigger guard with our entire body weight.

Both of our feet were completely off the ground and it still wouldn't get over the latch.

Knobby knees are knobby
>>
>>35135291
Have any more pics of the gun? Specifically I'm looking for markings on the bolt and left side of the receiver.

If it's a Sino-Soviet, that's a decent price and it looks to be in OK shape. The soviets sent parts and equipment and experts to China after they adopted the AK-47 and taught the Chinese how to build the SKS/Type 56. The first year guns are mostly assembled from Tula manufactured parts and are identical to a soviet SKS (very good quality).

Other chinese ones are still fine, but the 1956s are just a cut above.

Legit question. Are Yugo SKSs generally shit? I have one that I got 6 odd years ago and that thing has been reliable as fuck once I got the thing cleaned (the tard I got it from immersed it in cosmoline and then left it out to dry into something halfway between caramel and pine sap)
Did I luck out or is it mostly just hyperbole I'm hearing about them being terrible?
>>
>>35139388
They have no chrome and they are the least well-built model of any country. Also the gas cut-off on the 59/66 may become stuck because of carbon build up (if not maintained).
That being said the Yugo has never been considered a "bad gun".
>>
>>35139425
>they are the least well-built model of any country
Albania would like a word with you.
>>
>>35139388

All SKS's are solid guns, but people bitch about the Yugos for a couple of reasons:

>heavier due to the added parts
>gas cut-off for the grenade launcher can get jammed due to fouling buildup and can result in messed up cycling
>no chrome bore, so it's not nearly as durable and needs constant cleaning if you're using corrosive ammo
>randomly more expensive than a Chinese, which is just Russian-lite
>bayonets are proprietary and expensive as fuck to replace.

That's some top fuckin stuff m8, Good job
That's about $100 in ammo, alone, and anything under 500 for a Russian is a good deal. They're really only worth 400 max but syrup fags won't share
>>
I'm not going to bother reading through the thread to find all the posts complaining about high prices and saying "Buy a $600 AK or AR it's better", but $400 is still a fine price for a good quality SKS. 10 rounds of 7.62x39 in a semiautomatic that is basically indestructible? That's a lot of rifle for $400. Is it as affordable as it used to be 15 years ago? Not even close. You used to be able to buy SKS for around $100. But that's because there was a large supply of SKS and not much demand. In fact, you could assert that the SKS used to be undervalued quite a bit. But just because a once $100 gun is now $400 doesn't mean it's overpriced or not worth the cost. It just means the market process has corrected the valuation of the SKS. Now there are fewer SKS in circulation and many people, through means like Youtube personalities and internet chat forums, learned about the SKS and want them. The supply is constant if I am correct, as no more SKS are being imported at this time. This is bound to drive prices up as scarcity has increased every time somebody buys an SKS.
>>
>>35144141
