went to a gunshow last weekend and was reminded how much they suck in Canada
best deal was probably a Polish M44 for $400
There was only two Mausers, an Argentine for $650 and a Spanish Air Force 44 for $450 and nothing else that interesting, mostly just bubba'd enfields.

He ended up emailing me talking about taking out the initial payment about ten minutes after you and I were talking about it, and I realized it's still a Mannlicher Schoenauer goddammit, and it'll contrast better looks wisewhen I eventually get an Austro-Hunarian M95 long rifle. Like the last anon said, find a bubba or bad condition no.4, and combine parts to make an awesome Enfield. That being said, is this gunsmith well versed with Enfields and know what to look for in an aged and possibly stretched Enfield action?

Also as another anon said, delet pic

If you were a real SMLE hipster you'd go for an English-made one from after 1918 when production numbers sank like a stone. Or get a Mk.I

IMO the 1903-pattern stock and handguard are more aesthetic than the 03/14 pattern. More risque showing that much barrel.

The only time I like when the hand guard doesn't reach the front barrel band on milsurp, is when the hand guard doesn't extend behind the rear sight...so like a G.98 or K98k. Otherwise I like hand guards that go from either in front of or behind the rear sight all the way up to the front; like pic related. So that kind of leaves out all the S. American Mausers to me as being kinda bleh for me. But any Mannlicher is by default an aesthetic rifle.

I know that's pretty fucking autistic, but that's just my tastes in general for milsurp.

Milsurp would be playing on hard mode, no use in doing that in a theoretical situation in which your life is constantly on the line.

Watch the two new InRange videos where they do a 2 gun match using a K98k and Carcano, and ask yourself if you really want to put yourself at that huge of a handicap in a real life situation.

Is there any particular reason why Korea era Garands aren't as sought after or valuable as WWII era Garands? Is it just because there is more interest in WWII than Korea or are later Garands somehow inferior? I've got a rifle with all parts being 1954-1956 range HRA parts, but a collector at a local shop was talking down on it because it wasn't an original Springfield. A rifle stock is more complex than what an Amish could feasibly carve. The stock that I ended up getting was expensive because it is collectible, but also because it has nutso craftsmanship.

You need to consider things like the recoil lug, that would be very difficult for them to do. I've seen the ability of the Amish, it's very impressive, but I'd just worry about the stock lasting over time compared to one made by firearm professionals.

Chairs are way easier than a stock. Even fitting a semi inletted stock isn't easy, and since the Amish don't use guns, they aren't gonna know the type of fitment it needs to be seated in the stock correctly. The Mauser 98 action has a lot of complicated angles, curves, and corners, and you need to understand them all to make a stock for it. There's a reason the guys who worked making rifles in Germany during WWII weren't drafted and replaced by concentration camp workers or foreign arbeiters

Captured rifles didn't get WaffenAmts, though a replacement German-made barrel might have them. I'm thinking more likely it's been forged. Would need to see a lot more of the markings, especially any on the barrel and a close up of the "WaffenAmt".

Hey dudes, this is a legit Jungle Carbine, recently restocked (old stock was seriously trashed), is it convincing enough like this? It shoots great.

I have two of them :3
>but it's not in my country
Which country is that?
>If I import it then it's $850.
Only $350 to import? That's cheap.

Does it LOOK legit. Not looking for collector-grade autism.

I live in Canuckistan. It's also non-matching with no mum but damn do I love how they look. You've got two very beautiful rifles there.

Both of mine unfortunately have mismatched bolts and of course missing their monopods and dust covers, but both have intact mums and one is the 641st Type 99 ever made by Nagoya Arsenal. lol

I think $850 is more than fair for Canuckistan. I also think Type 99 longs are sleepers in the collecting world. If enough collectors knew about them they would go up in value a lot.

So, I shot two milsurp of mine I haven't shot yet until today:

-My Ishapore 2a1 was surprisingly finnicky when it came to how it fed from the (original) magazine

-my Turkish Mauser short rifle had a really tough time with primary extraction, and a few of the shots resulted in pierced primers...so thank God the 98 design is built to handle gas.

All in all, I'm a little underwhelmed.
>>
>>34760917
Okay. Well after I get some other things payed for (need a new car) I'll try importing it if it doesn't get scooped up. IMO Type 99 long rifles are some of the coolest looking milsurps.

It was mostly pistols. Gun Jesus has a bunch of videos on "Mystery Chinese pistols"

Some of them are probably here and I would bet they have Chink moon runes on them.

Apparently he swaps stocks sometimes and I've heard claims that he's ground off import marks.

I'd love to get a long Arisaka, but it's got to go a ways down The List.

Anybody here know what can cause pierced primers? I was shooting Portuguese 8mm from 1971, which I think was made by FN, and is pretty decent ammo from what I've heard.

Firing pin protrusion too far out? I'd rather experiment by filing down the tip a tiny bit by bit as an experiment, vs pay a gunsmith, but I don't want to invite any trouble either.

>It was mostly pistols.
Not exactly. A 1919 Treaty stipulated that pistols were exempt from the arms embargo, and Mausers and the like are famous for being used during the Warlord era. However, it did little to stop countries from selling rifles there. Italy in particular advertised small arms at their legation, and ended up selling thousands of Carcanos to Wu Peifu. Since Germany never signed the treaty in the first place, dozens of individual German salesmen went and sold post-WWI arms there. I'd assume there wouldn't be any markings on them considering the clandestine nature of the purchases.

Suggest to me milsurp guns in common calibers, I really don't care too much about what sort of guns (preferably bolt action) but calibers like .308 and 30-06 are deal
>I really want an Israeli 7.62 Mauser (k98 action is strong enough for commercial .308) but can't find one
>I really want an ishapore 2a1 but I'm afraid to shoot .308 out of it
>I kinda want a colombian mauser 30-06 but the seller is five hours away and wants $550
Let's say nothing more crazily obscure than 8mm mauser, 6.5x55mm swede etc

>ishapore 2a1 but I'm afraid to shoot .308 out of it
New production 7.62 is pretty cheap. I'd think it could handle commercial .308, as the metallurgy on them is better than the other No.1 rifles made. I'd ask the advice of a non-fudd gunsmith, cos a fudd gunsmith will likely write off any Enfield as weak because of the memes surrounding rear locking lugs.

Also, there was an Australian company that made new No.4 rifles years ago in .308, and those were fine.

I will pay you a lot of money for it, please give me your email.

PS are you in Tampa? Because some jackass who forgot to take down his listing (and coincidentally also browses /k/) traded it for an AK pistol and wouldn't give me the contact info of the new guy, you might be the new owner, if so hello
>>
>>34744903
Nevermind that second part here: >>34761645 it's a different gun entirely, ignore all of it

I'll pay you $450
>>
>>34761493
It could be a number of things. The firing pin protrusion could be too far out is one. The primers themselves being too brittle are another. Try shooting reloaded ammo with modern CCI made primers and if that's the issue look at the firing pin.

You likely shouldn't fuck with the firing pin yourself. When you file it, you can remove the hardened layer of steel and greatly reduce the life of the part by exposing softer metal.

>>34760475
$350 to import is fucking insane. Especially from the USA. Try Aztech Armoury or IRUNGUNS for better pricing. You can also do it yourself if you're able to legally buy firearms in the USA.

You should be paying less than $200 tax and shipping included for one rifle.

I'll try some modern ammo next time. Thanks.

Swedish Mauser m/1896 for $550 but I'm going to try to work him down to $500. Normally wouldn't pay over $450 for this thing but it's in fucking factory new condition, for 106 years old it looks pretty damn impressive. Requested more pics. Thoughts?

Meanwhile I'm trying to sell my bubbafucked m/1894 for $350 with a bunch of random parts I bought off the internet that are supposed to make the gun look original
>>
>>34762162
Oh and everything matches on this guy's mauser except the floorplate, but I can buy a replacement one NSN and jew my way into all matching. He says it's "factory fit" on though, does that mean I can't remove it?

It's also possible that the stock is just a refinish, now I'm worried, I'll just post the extra pics in the next general when I get them.
>>
>>34761921
the $850 was in CAD, $500 USD is like at least $600+ CAD and then there's shipping and import fees, so it's not far off
