So I was watching this Larry Snickers vid and at about the 0:25 second mark, you can clearly see the bullet tumbling almost immediately after leaving the barrel. How common is this problem with the ak74/5.45x39? Ive heard about it in the past but assumed it was just a problem with really low end guns. What exactly causes this problem? the reality is Vympel set the primers too deep in the primer pocket causing light strikes, there is only 1 supplier for primers in russia, all the Russian ammo gets it from the same source, to the same specs, the "hard primer" lie was a dodge so he could keep selling the ammo, he started refunding everyone when dozens of people came back with handfuls of "duds" per case.

My GTI had a ~4.5s 0-60 and got to 130 pretty easy, I used to get into improv races all the time. R32 has a factory 0-60 of 5.5 so an ECU flash should get me something comparable on the cheap and I get the benefit of AWD. From left to right is the VOLK (Armacon), AK Flash Hider Compact (Strela), and Krymsk-2 (Red Heat).

I am still testing all three, but so far they all have very similar performance. The Krymsk-2 is slightly longer yet lighter than the other two.

I'd already have the 805 if they didn't pretty much confirm that they're trying to get the 806 in by next year. It's not really a case of one over another since I could get both, I just want to focus on one at a time.

Yes 5.5. A couple years ago a whole flood of heavily used no-trapdoor stocks came in the country. Prior to that they were basically unobtanium. I have two, one with a screwed on hinge and one with a molded in hinge. Also one of them has the serial number of the 74M it came from penciled into the optics rail recess. They're basically early 74M stocks that probably got replaced when the rifles were refurbished or something.

Zasta has one that's NOS, he got it with packing grease on it, perfect condition. Only one I've ever seen like that.

I was really wanting an 805 to go with my vz.58, but I can't afford both it and an AUG and I've always wanted an AUG so that won out. Maybe someday I'll pick up an 806 when they eventually come out but who knows. They sure look cool though, both physically and functionally. The only complaint I've ever heard about them is the weight which is still manageable

And yeah for the AUG if I did get a NATO stock it'd be 100% just to stash away and only use if I ever ever really needed to, getting rid of the BHO and not using the great Steyr mags is a big deal for me too but it's cool that it's just a stock change to swap between the mags for whichever situation you happen to find yourself in

I had a 550FS in 30-06 for a few years, it was a really nice gun. It was super light which made it really really nice to carry around while hunting, but it had quite a bit of recoil due to how light it was. Apparently their thin wrists were prone to cracking under recoil, but I never experienced any signs of that. It was a great gun, I only sold it because I've already got a sporterized M1903 that has a better trigger and a much, much smoother bolt (not that the 550's bolt wasn't smooth, just that the 1903's was smoother) and I didn't need two bolt action 30-06 guns for the same role. It truly was a dream to carry around, though, and it definitely was a looker. I'd recommend one if you're serious about buying one, and if you go for a lighter recoiling cartridge than 30-06 (6.5x55 was one I strongly considered) it should shoot better too

Haha yeah I bought a lot of Chinese SKS slings when they were dirt cheap, and then when they started going up I bought a lot of surplus vz.58 slings cuz they were cheap. They're both great durable slings, especially for the money. I had one or the other on just about all of my rifles for a long time before selling a lot of them. I've still got a nice NOS Chinese SKS sling on my CZ 452 and a nice NOS black vz sling on my AR, and I've got maybe four more of each tucked away somewhere still

I miss that porch too, it was a cool view and it allowed me to take fun pics outside without being seen by neighbors

8.4lbs naked does sound absurd, but other than that and the lack of a bolt release I haven't found too many people complaining about issues with their 805s. There could be several reasons for that though. I'll admit that a black 805 with an ACR stock on it makes me tingle.

There's a lot I don't like about the 16S that has nothing to do with the price, but based on feedback from actual SCAR owners that have 10k+ rounds through theirs I'm thinking none of them are significant issues.

As for the 550FS, I'll look into 6.5x55. I like that I can just drive down to academy and buy 30-06 though. Kind of want it to be handy and convenient to shoot, if that makes sense.

The purpose behind the larger pin wasn't for strength as the AKS-74 was already strong enough. Something else would break before that pin actually broke.

The larger pin is to allow for more surface area contact on the trunnion part of the hinge. More friction means the pin won't be as apt to spin in the trunnion. Spinning in the trunnion wears the trunnion holes out. They learned this with the AKS-74.

This is the same reason why they added the split in the stock hinge. Less surface area contacting the pin = less friction when the stock is folded trying to spin the pin.

The AKS-74 actually accomplished the same thing, except instead of a cut in the stock hinge, the pin itself has a narrow part in the middle where the stock hinge doesn't touch. Less surface area contact. But it's simpler to just make the pin one diameter all the way across (except for the bottom part) than to do that.
