Anyone here want to answer some questions on the topic of carrying?
I see a lot of you (so to say all of you) advocate carrying in your waistband.
What if you're wearing pants that don't have a waistband? Do you get a tactical garterbelt? Can you even carry in your waistband without looking like, pardon my French, a dadcore dipshit?
Why does it seem like nobody uses shoulder holsters? It seems like it'd be faster to draw from if you're sitting in particular, and more natural to draw from in general.
If this all seems silly to ask, it's because I've yet to shoot a pistol due to living in a nonfree country, and as such, the process for getting one is a fair bit more complicated than it was to get my rifles, but what the hell, I'm getting there.
Thanks!

this obviously depends on the rifle round, but no.

The whole broken ribs thing is a meme. It's physics. The same amount of energy that goes into your shoulder when you fire a rifle will go into the target, and be dissipated over the armor plate.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Mlok is very solid though. I've never had an issue with it. >>
>>34635962
The amount of "energy" is the same but you're phrasing it in a misleading way that ignores impulse.
The shooter has the benefit of a 7 lbs rifle absorbing the recoil impulse.

stopping a bullet with a 1/4 inch plate isn't the same as projecting it out of a 20 inch long tube.
>>
>>34636073
that doesn't even make any sense.

Have you seen armor plate tests? There are videos of dudes taking 30 06 to the chest and having a light bruise to none at all. I don't even have to argue physics with you, there are real world tests out there demonstrating that you're a retard.

Or you could even look up some firsthand accounts of veterans who have taked a 3-round burst of x54r to the chest from a PKM machine gun. No broken ribs, shocker.

I bet you also believe in "knockdown power"
>>
>>34636096

>>
>>34636209
I'll be waiting for your argument, if you have one. Modern armor plates are specifically designed to prevent injury. And for the most part, they do.

For the most part, if you're getting hit by a big enough rifle round to break ribs, it'll be penetrating the plate instead.

I'll leave you with this:

I've been considering getting another bolt action rifle for awhile now, I miss shooting my Turkish Mauser but 8mm Mauser ammo is too expensive to just plink with nowdays. I'm after a .223/5.56 rifle for low cost plinking with the option of hunting small-medium game if I ever get into that. I know that most of the budget bolt guns won't recreate the exact feel of the Mauser but I figure it will still feel similar. I've thought about getting an AR but It's hard to justify getting an autoloader when I have a perfectly good Romanian SKS.

I've come across some listings online for the TC Compass and Savage Axis for pretty good prices, ~$190 (with discounts and rebates) and ~$230 respectively. I know that these rifles were built to a price point but both are supposed to be very accurate. Do those of you who own one (maybe both?) mind piping in with your thoughts/findings/opinions?
>>
>>34640095

>>
>>34643986
No, for a first handgun you should get a .22 or cheap and common 9mm you can put a lot of rounds through. P1s are aluminium frame and will deteriorate unless you shoot more gently loaded rounds. P38s are steel frame, but it is recommended that you also use careful loads as not to wear them out , since it is a kind of brittle design and the steel quality may not be the best depending on year of manufacture.
I have a 1943 p38 and handload for it, but I would not trust most factory loads for fear of losing my fingers or damaging my gun.
>>
>>34640468

The trauma plate is not only heavier on average than the rifle it also has a very large surface area covering one of the most flexible parts of the human skeleton

Are you throwing your fucking gun as you shoot it? All you're doing is pulling terms out of your ass to backup your fuddlore.
>>
>>34645534
I reread your post and realized I made an error on my second point, but still A trauma plate weighs around 12 pounds compared to a 10lb akm so It has a greater inertia than the rifle firing the bullet while spreading the force over a far larger surface area.

No but it is not going to be as durable as a steel frame gun. Be careful with what ammo you use and you should be alright. Also check for signs of wear when cleaning it . As for my p38, I am probably more careful than needed because I'd really hate to see it getting damaged.

So as a little preface; no, this is not my first time carrying a gun, been doing standard holster carry for years.

I bought a p238 recently; I chose it because I liked the large controls which were easy to operate (the opposite of which is the primary problem I have with most 'small' guns). I was also kind of looking for a small gun that I could carry in my pocket when I'm not wearing proper pants/belt e.g. nights/weekends/summertime.

So far, this thing has been a delight in my athletic/basketball shorts pocket. HOWEVER; here are a few things I'm trying to get a hang of.

1.
Should you put anything around the gun when you just pocket carry it?

I'm a bit worried about the front glowsite catching a thread or something and not drawing properly (pic related is not MY own gun, and the grips/color scheme is pretty different on mine, but I have the same sights; and as you can see, there's a space under the frontsight which stuff could get caught on)

2. Not that I'm planning on using it; but are the 'stock' holsters for these notably shit? I bought this thing new, and got a little plastic owb holster for it. It rides very high, so I would even say this is a practical owb concealed holster, but when I try pull the gun out the whole fucking thing comes off my belt holster and all. Am I missing something? Is this one a dud? Are all these poorly made?

3. 'print profile' in soft pants like gymshorts/pajama pants/sweatpants etc... is great. Looks like a wallet or a phone or something; how do you pocket carry in longer tighter pants like jeans or slacks without it sticking out like a sore thumb?
>>
>>34643287
It doesn't have a more official name?

>>34643381
Does it work if the sling is attached to the bottom of the rifle and not on the side? Most military weapons mount on the side but civilian rifles usually have sling swivels on the bottom.

I'm 90% sure that's a LC Smith field grade side by side. Hunter Arms MFG, Fulton.

The cracked stock is NOT optional, it comes with every single LC Smith that has fired modern high velocity shot shells.

If you want to learn rust blueing and case color hardening, and a bit of stock repair, this is THE ideal gun to do it on.

In present condition it's not very valuable at all, but people are downright horny for a well restored LC smith, even the field grade.

It's one of not very many firearms that a full restoration will bump the value way up. Anyone who tries to say "hurr muh patina, you'll ruin the value" is watching too much antiques roadshow/american pickers.

Sometimes wear is legitamate "patina". Sometimes it's wear, and sometimes it;s outright damage. People need to be woke, restoration doesnt ruin stuff, it enhances it in most cases.

Also, your gun, your prerogative

Fuck Taurus, get the Shield or the LC9s. You'll want to rent them and shoot a hundred rounds through each if you can manage to do that.

Otherwise fingerfuck them and compare size and ergonomics.

I carry LC9s because hurr no carry on campus., no way the ruger is going to show or print, it's a cute little fucker. Otherwise, I'd be interested in the Ruger SR9c, which is slightly smaller and better feeling than a G19 for hundreds less.

Gen 3 are slippery, less ergonomic, and have a history of being prone to unacceptable failures. Gen 4 are a bit more modernized (still far behind other options) and have more QC issues, probably still prone to failures but at least they've fixed the weapon light stovepipe issue for the most part (use an APL). Pick your poison, or go with something better, like an FNS-9C.

Why do soldiers have their pistol holsters on their thigh instead of the hip?
>>
>>34652137

Think about it. They usually have armor on, ammo, rifle sling, rucksack straps and everything else. It's easier to draw (not that most would ever have to draw in their entire career) from a lower point on your side than it is right on your hip.
>>
>>34651359

Don't let anon overblow Glock problems and scare you off. Both are good to go and have been for a long time. Sig 320 is the newer kid and it's pretty good aside from the tall ass slide. The Sig would probably be more fun for you. Just like the Glock, you can drop a lot of cash on an already 500+ handgun. :^)

So for precision rifles, people tend to prefer bolt actions. My understanding is that it's due to the strength and consistency of the lock-up. But bolt actions are obviously not as fast as semi, as you have to manually work the bolt.

If you have an excellent quality rifle that you've spent plenty of time working in, you can get the action of of a bolt gun pretty damned smooth, but is there a way to make it faster without sacrificing the qualities that make it precise?

I was thinking about maybe using gas from the fired cartridge just to cock the rifle. Chambering, locking, extraction, unlocking, etc, all still handled by manually working the bolt, but now there's no spring tension to fight against. Good idea? Bad idea? Already been tried?

ok lets do some math
eod suit~100lbs (on light end)
plates and carrier ~50lbs
m240b ~26lbs
enough 762 to fight it out ~60lbs
random other clothing~10lbs
hard armor similar to picture (at a guess) ~50lbs
ech/ach with ballistic face shield ~ 20lbs
so now do this grab 320lbs spread load on body and run around taking cover/a knee every 5 min or so for about 45 min and see how you feel. no is the answer desert heat and a plate carrier is bad enough with a 240

>buy antique chilean mauser 95 long rifle
>all matching
>really nice condition bore, bolt, receiver, etc
>stock is a little beat up from war use
>shoots well
>can't see sights bc crap vision
>even when I wear single vision lenses and can see them they're crap, pic related
>want to either get a lyman sight or a scope mount
>both require drilling and tapping the receiver
>don't want to fuck up a piece of history
>also don't want to get rid of the rifle
>but I want to be able to shoot it
The only choices I have are to leave it as is and struggle when I shoot what would otherwise be an enjoyable rifle, or make it easier to shoot but destroy any historical value. I'm not a history geek or anything, but I'd feel super guilty modifying a 122yr old rifle with all matching everything that saw use, like idk how many chilean mausers there are but there can't be that many that are completely original so I want to preserve that just bc it's significant. Like, if I had an antique mosin I wouldn't care too much about modifying it to make it a better rifle bc there are so many, but the thing with the mauser is that it's already a great rifle except for the sights. If I were to buy a mosin and put in the effort to make it as nice as my mauser is, it'd cost me more than I paid for the mauser, probably by a fair amount too since I got a good deal on it.

what should I do? It's not even about the monetary value of the rifle, like I don't plan on reselling this ever, it's just that I'd feel totally selfish modifying a completely matching antique rifle.

tldr, am I getting worked up over nothing? Are there enough good condition chilean mausers that I can get away with modifying mine to make it more shootable, or would I be doing a disservice to later generations who might want to appreciate an original mauser 95 by making them more scarce?

For me it pretty much just boils down to the weight of your carry piece and the type (how good) of a holster you have. A good holster that distributes the weight will handle a heavier gun more comfortably in a wider variety of shorts/pants than a cheap/quick IWB holster. I carry a compact (not sub compact) Glock in the winter and a Ruger LCR in the summer. Both ride in simple leather single clip IWB holster and I have no issues. Uncomfortable at first but you get used to it. I can pack the LCR while wearing Dickies shorts without even wearing a belt ... 2 muthafuckin ez

Now about a shoulder holster... How exactly would I conceal that without wearing a jacket? It gets hot as fuck wear I live. And if I just had it on under my shirt or something how the fuck would I draw it?

No, No.

Marlin 795, unless you are wanting to swap parts and do upgrades and shit. If that's the case, get the 10/22.
If you just want a reliably accurate 22lr to shoot and leave it at that, get the 795.

Every store I go to has shelves stocked full of 22lr. If you're looking for one specific product, it is possible you may not find it. But for the most part, it is dang near at pre-pre-panic levels (stock levels and prices).

Still no. Not happening. Infantry are better off having less armor than more. Right now infantrymen can barely move when they come under contact. Usually they just get to the nearest piece of decent cover and just stay put while arty/air spools up.

Works against durka durkas most of the time, but against a peer military not burdening their soldiers with 100+ lbs of extraneous garbage we'd get slaughtered.

So I'm helping my brother buy a rifle on GunBroker. Problem is, he's 17. I don't want to use my debit card to pay for it, but he has a debit card, has enough money to pay for it himself, and says that he doesn't care if he has to use his card.
But, the GunBroker account is under my name, with all my info.
Would it even be legal if I use his card under my account, especially since he's underage? I'm worried that the seller will notice and just cancel the whole thing.

I live in a pretty standard suburb, lots of whites. The Mexicans behind me have chickens. How hard is raising them? What are the benefits?

I want some fory yard, but I need a reason. My wife said we can have them but can't eat them.

Also, how many is too little? Will 1 get lonely?

Will it fly? How do I keep him in my backyard?

How do you get them?

Egg laying hens are pretty awesome. Up front costs, but you can use them to have eggs replace other meats in a lot of meals which will slide your costs overall. The eggs are expensive when you factor in coup costs, but are much cheaper than any kind of meat, so if the daily egg intake replaces meat it works out.

If you get a hen, just get more than one. They are super cheap as chicks. The biggest cost is building a coup. I free range mine during the day and they know to come in at night. I know people who have a big coup and keep them in 24/7.

Costs of feeding 4 egg laying hens is about $20 a month. Just fill up the food and water daily and they are low maintaince. Never seen them fly or attempt it. If you have foxes or raccoons near make sure to coup them up right at sunset and don't be lazy; I lost a hen to a raccoon a few months ago.

So far, bearing in mind I have all of 3 months experience, they're pretty easy. Do a lot of googling. They eat ticks like a mother, which is why we got them; big tick problem in the Northeast. They are social birds, need at least 2. You can clip their wings, but they don't fly far. You can buy them at Agway, Tractor Supply, etc, as chicks. Google judiciously. I recommend buy second hand supplies of Craigslist. If free ranged (no point in having them otherwise, except eggs), they will eventually go to the neighbors yard, and potentially damage flowerbeds; but mostly just eat ticks and ants.

Building the coop was a pain in the dick, because I'm both a) an engineer, and b) the world's worst carpenter. Therefore, everything's overbuilt, cost too much, and if there's a square edge ANYWHERE, it's because it came that way from the lumberyard. All told, probably sank $300 into construction and hardening it against trash pandas. That, and I pissed off the paint guy at Home Depot, so it came out looking like a Mexican whorehouse.
>>
>>34669791
Laying hens aren't really. They make fairly soft screeches, usually if you are letting them out to free range later than usual. Nothing like a rooster.

A neighbor would only hear them if outside and right across the fence.
>>
>>34669695
What's the difference?
>>
>>34669792
Keeps out the fucking trash pandas, though.

>>34669791
The hens aren't that loud, and the above one, if it is a cock, isn't crowing yet. If he stays silent, he can stay. Otherwise, I'm not going to be a dick to my neighbors by introducing a rooster to a suburban compact area. Mostly 1 acre lots, heavily wooded in between, with plenty of coons and hawks.
>>
Thanks for answering my chicken questions. I think I'll give it a try.

The United States military began I suppose in world war two adopting equipment with designation model and revision.
So first there was the M1 submachine gun, the thompson, the M2 hyde and the M3 grease gun, and the M3A3, etc. Same for flamethrowers and other stuffs.
There was an M1 carbine, an M2 carbine, the M3 carbine (T3), and the M4 carbine (ar15). Makes sense.

The rifle that replaced the M1 Garand was the M14, kinda sorta succeeded by the M15 and really the M16. What happened to the M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7, M8, M9, M10, M11, M12, and M13 rifles? Where is the documentation?
Autism aside, whats the reason its designated the M14?

Ahh, good question. Welcome to the world of .308 ARs!

There is no universal standard, as there is with AR-15s. There are two major specs, though; DPMS and Armalite. Armalite is more expensive, but original. DPMS uses many AR-15 parts (trigger group, furniture, LPK, gas block, gas tube), which increases options and brings down costs. There are also other manufacturers who may be doing their own thing, so ALWAYS verify what's what. DPMS and Armalite are NOT compatible; even the mags are different. However, PSA makes the PA-10, which is pure DPMS except for the stripped upper and lower receivers themselves (cheaper through PSA anyway), and 4 pins in the lower. The rest is all DPMS, which means largely AR-15.

Big one in the pic is a PA-10 based frankengun, $800 all told, shoots 3/4" @ 100 yards with Winchester Ballistic Silvertips from a 20" Anderson heavy barrel. AR-10 prices have fallen dramatically since I built it.

hey guys, need some help figuring out wtf this is
>picrelated

was cleaning a new cheap 12ga, rough machining, but otherwise all good where needs to be.
went to replace cheap follower with a more reliable one and see this in the mag tube
>the picture is taken upside down through the loading gate
basically this weird clearly raised spot and a smaller one on the other side of this whiteish deposit. tried clp and nylon brush on it and it doesn't seem to be just some residue that's easy to wipe off.

I'm not too worried but just want to figure out wtf it is. it's clearly not rust, but is visibly raised. don't think it will impede feeding, but seeing how the rest of the mag tube is nice and shiny, I would want to remove it if possible and keep it smooth throughout

TL;DR: weird slightly raised whiteish staining/buildup in new shotgun mag-tube towards the loading gate side -- what is and how to get rid of plz?

>>
>>34671734
if it's only going to stop pistol caliber rounds what's the point of the added weight? And how do you secure the armor in a way that's not going to shift under dead sprints, climbing, jumping, and crawling that's also not going to risk cutting off circulation or be extremely uncomfortable?

Your legs move a lot more than your torso. You'd have to have a pretty complex arrangement to not seriously hamper mobility.
>>
>>34671773
>what's the point of the added weight
...so because it stops pistol calibers it's pointless?
>how do you secure the armor
You have a good point.
>>
>>34650704
On further consideration, I see no reason not to get an MOS, so Gen 4 it is. Even if I don't add an RMR immediately, it would be much more cost effective to spend an extra $30 for MOS than have a slide milled later.
>>
how reliable are picatinny rail to weaver converters? I have a rifle with a weaver scope mount and I was gifted a scope that attaches to picatinny rails but im not gonna bother if its gonna be a loose, shaky POS
>>
>>34671827
Not that guy but putting a reply in.

Stopping pistol calibers is better than nothing, but if you are hampered to any degree that makes rifle fire more likely to hit your entire body due to leg restriction slowing your movements then that pistol protection is a net negative in a battlefield.

Plate carriers are supported in such a way as to allow the back to carry the weigh.
Any weight on the thigh will have to either be belt supported which will cause fatigue as it constantly hits the leg or braced around the thigh meaning the possibility of restricting free muscle movement

>>34675013
No, and there probably will never be any great move to deregulate as the law was and is an effort to restrict the availability of concealable weapons.
>>
>>34671766
Pretty illegal.

I don't think there would be enough power coming out of a blackpowder cartridge to make it work.

Now if it was a .45 ACP the best bet you would have would be to take a harder metal than lead such as brass or steel and turn a projectile on a metal lathe into the proper shape which would maybe work if you could control the conditions and standardize it somewhat.

Just gluing a nail into a hollowpoint is retarded though.
>>
>>34670858
You can just buy recoil pads anywhere. It is a piece of foam or cushioned rubber that you adhere and cut down to size.

From what I can tell the braces are also legal under Canadian law.

However Canada has legal SBRs under restricted firearms and the only use for the brace would be to avoid SBR laws under US Law or to properly shoot a Pistol one-handed.

All AR-15 type rifles/pistols are also restricted firearms in Canada so the point of the pistol brace is moot.

Silencers is an acceptable term, as the creator deemed it to be a silencer, although it only suppresses sound, leaving it up to ambiguity.

And no, they just make them less loud, and possibly (Maybe?) Help cycle the next round since it catches some of the expanding gases.

Not that blanks were even deadly in the first place.
