Yeah Chicom ammo is banned. It smells terrible when you shoot it, worse than cat piss

My first gun was a Chinese SKS that came with 1000 rounds of the stuff and I between leftovers from that and stuff that my dad bought back in the day I've got a couple hundred rounds left of it

You could probably sell it for a little bit of money, especially since yours has the box

Because fuck you that's why. Seriously though, idk what the fuck goes through the heads of the guys at Arsenal. I thought the same as >>34610784 about the 107r. Real shame they didn't just do an AKM clone AND discontinue the 107fr.

I used to make it a point to shoot as much of it as I could before digging into my "better" ammo, but I used to get tired of the smell so I'd start shooting less smelly after a while. I regret shooting so much of it, had i known there were folks who collected this stuff I'd have kept it as is. It was originally all still loaded on Chinese stripper clips and bunched together in packs of three clips wrapped in brown paper

>>34610690
Not really, I'm not sure what my total round count of GT is right now. I've got maybe 2k in that box and then another 3k or so in ammo cans, and then at my parents I've got another 4k or 5k that I either dig into when I shoot when I visit or take a can full home when I leave. I used to buy 1k of GT a month for like two years straight and this is all left over from that. I haven't bought any 7.62x39 whatsoever in like four years

I really regret that 7.62x39 was the only caliber I ever stacked deep when I had a well paying job and could afford to spend a lot of money on gun stuff

Pretty sure the entire 107R line is essentially Arsenal's version of a freezer cleaner stew. The 47 front sight is really indicative of them just using up spare parts they have nothing to do with. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep producing the 107R line if they'll start changing different parts just as a way to get rid of stuff they have no use for. 45 degree gas blocks and the like

Mine is coming with the same mount. I paid more than that, but not a great deal more. Someone on AKFiles paid $760 for one, his will probably be the first "known" in the US. I always wonder if DOD discreetly buys semi-obscure optics/accessories from rival countries for testing. It would be neat to know how many are in the US, and when the first one came in. They date back to at least 2013.

Look for Jman100ct, he'll have what you're lookin for

I wouldn't recommend the cheek pad unless you're gonna dedicate the rifle to having a 1.4lb optic on at all times, it makes the irons a bit of a pain to use. The GP-25 pad is really good at keeping the otherwise slippery triangles from going all over the place tho

>At least dress it up like True Black Fag has with what you can easily replace, he has everything AK-74M he can get on his without some major work.
I've really considered at least dimpling the barrel components and getting a proper 5.5mm trunnion installed but I'll never do it because that feels like a waste and kinda pointless as it'll still never be Izhmash

>>34611410

Here's the thing.

The droopier stock angle is 90% of the problem for me, if it wasn't for that my brain would be satisfied with the similarity.

Arsenal makes the stocks here in the US, I wish they would update the shape to be more in-line with the receiver like modern 5.5mm folders. They copy the modern Russian poly folder perfectly, but then stick it on a 4.5mm trunnion which causes it to have the incorrect angle. They should compensate for the difference by changing the angle of the hinge on the stock.

But most people are not autistic enough to care, so it won't happen.
>>
>>34611454
That's a good point that I forgot about. Still not really worth it though since the only smooth ones that are readily available here are different types from Saigas

>>
>>34611475
not mine, I have 4.5mm and 5.5mm folders and love both

I just think droopy Arsenal polymer folders look unaesthetic.

>>34611485
A "straighter" stock would actually be MORE different from the 5.5mm Russian one, since they would need to change the angle of the hinge to counteract the 2 degree difference in rear trunnion angle.

As it is right now they stocks are virtually identical except for the screws on the buttplate and the hinge hole diameter.
>>
So, I have one of them Arsenal "Legion" Saigas, before they were made by that Fima group. These weer converted "in house" by Arsenal. Bought it for $700 at the time.

Black plastic furniture, I swapped out the buttstock for Nato length.

Good, because once I'm done fiddling with my ARs I'm going to start dumping more money into this and I intend to augpost here. We can touch tips then, right?
>>
>>34611700
Yep, sold my DPMS lower so I don't even have anything to do with it. With a 100-120 for a bipod the upper would technically be done for about 900-950 unless I wanted to get BUIS, then the optic+rings would ran me about 1500-1700, and the lower would been 200 shipped for an A1 profile blank plus cost of a jig plus cost of engraving, then the cost of an autism LPK and then another 2-300 for a trigger, probably geissele SSP, and then like 200 for a JPSCS. Just too much money for a gun that honestly I only wanted because it looked pretty. Shooting ARs is boring as fuck
>>
>>34611287
I think the reason it's comfy in here is that /akg/ is largely here out of love of the gun more than anything else. AKs are not the easiest guns to build, work on, find parts for, etc., and lately we've been dealing with the government (and the industry, surprisingly) make it harder and harder to get a quality one at all.

From an objective standpoint, the path of least resistance would've been to abandon AKs altogether and get different guns that are more modern, more ergonomic, more accurate, etc. Instead we all just kinda shrug it off and keep doing AKs because we think they're cool and we like them, and those are the only reasons we need.

I think that's also why we don't get into brand fights very often either. There are guys in here with extremely expensive and autistic Russian parts kit builds or entire collections of AKs, but I've never seen them look down on dudes who just dressed up their WASR a bit. At most, we shit on guys considering American-made AKs, but it's less brand elitism and more us trying to keep people from making a bad purchase. It's not like /arg/ or /brg/ where if you don't have a $2000-3000 gucci gun you're just a poorfag - all we care about is having a quality AK (and not Tapcofucking it too much).

I love you guys.

I'm not sure you're picking up what I'm putting down. I think you're thinking of a different kind of kit plane.

He's talking about the kind you register with the FAA and fly inside of from the local municipal airport, not 1/72 and 1/144 models.
>>
>>34611794
>I believe the receiver was also slightly warped too
I think he was getting meme'd because he seemed clueless.
I compared the picture he had to my WASRs and SAR and it looked the exact same; unless the Cugir factory fucked me over three times in a row.

That said, hopefully the guy was smart enough to check the headspace and ask the guy to prove it by blowing through a magazine.
I'm just assuming he wasn't dumb enough to trade for it straight up without any functions checks.

>>34611837
I thought you were talking functional/remote control scale models desu.
>>
>>34611804
You'd be able to tell when you looked at the end of the receiver. The issue isn't the stocks themselves/your idea of the stock, I just think that, with that kind of angle, it'd look wonky, you'd have the 4.5mm rear trunnion that wants to point down, with a 5.5 angled stock which would break the natural line of
>this is the way the stock is going
It's just like how the Ironwood improved N-PAP furniture looks just a bit weird, the angles are all off.
>>
>>34611809
But getting back on topic, /akg/ is undeniably generally negative towards garage builds.
Not to mention the hate for (admittedly shitty) American AKs.
Not saying it's not usually deserved criticism, but /akg/ isn't the all-accepting anti-/arg/ that the other guy was billing it as.

There are two things I like about ARs.

The first is that, since I only intend to own two complete ARs at once, I can swap out parts easily on a whim with very few specialized tools.

The second is that I can replace them easily. If someone breaks in to my home, I'm grabbing the AR. While it would be super neat and all to see what 8m3 can do, it's a whole lot fucking cheaper to replace the rifle that fires 50gr TSX.

>My only plans for it so far is pick up an MRO and more mags

I'm swapping out my high rail for Pete's extended and getting a micro aimpoint for mine. The PRO is destined for another rifle and I think a micro dot like the MRO or T-2 would work out better. Might get a light for it at some point, but that's further on down the line.

As for the Corvus Defensio stuff, I like the idea of the brass deflector but the $4 pack of velcro strips I bought the day mine came in works for me. Supposedly they were submitting the trigger pack to Steyr for qualification, whatever that means. I know Geissele/ALG confirmed that they're working on something for the AUG, which I assume is what they contributed to the Corvus pack. Time will tell.

Just be aware that the MRO has a relatively large parallax shift when you're not lined up right on the optic due to the fisheye lens. EOTechs will give you the lease parallax shift, followed by Aimpoint T-2s and Vortex's better red dot offerings. There was a long 80-something page paper about it recently.

Space between the receiver and the trunnion was WAYY too tight. I would have had to file the handguards down too far to put back on my RPK.

so you settle for a weapon platform that is limited to sub-par ammunition? my AK feeds soft points just find, also hornady SST is a thing...

i just dont get the point of stacking 8k rounds of target FMJ for "shtf" when its basically worse than pistol self defense ammo
>>
>>34612382
I don't stack for shtf, I buy in bulk because it's cheaper per round

Tsk tsk, doesn't sound like that great
of an ATF party.

>>34612408
That set was made specifically for Vepr 12s/Saiga 12s.
It's got a much smaller rear lug than standard RPK handguards do.
>I did have a plum set on it prior, and they had to be filed way down to fit.
Yugo slings are thinner, but only just.
They feel just as sturdy, and seem a lot more flexible when they're new.

when did .22lr stop killing people? just because it works doesnt make it ideal...again i understand stacking for target practice and use when ammo is sparse but a lot of people have the mentality of "stockpiling for SHTF" and im just asking why, if you are in such dire straights and living such a hard life because SHTF, would you give yourself the worse option of available rounds?

Now where's the fun in that?
Although I don't think they start tracing until ~50ft.

Yeah, I grabbed just a set of plum handguards a few years back, and they were cheap enough to cut up.
Fuck was the gas tube handguard a pain to get on/off though.

I did use the grip from the plum set on my AK74. Looks nicer than the off red Russian Bakelite it came with. It turns out plum looks way better with the sunburst stock than Bakelite

Yes, it does.
We have similar tastes, or I at least push my "wants" onto you.
And you oblige, which I appreciate.

I'm kinda thinking about an M72 as well, but I'm kinda wishy washy on it.
On the one hand, I've got 8 40rnd bakes, a few molot steel 40s, and a few drums that would go great with one.
On the other hand, what else could pop up in the meantime, that I could've blown that money on.
It's a struggle, like with you and that RPD.
>>
>>34612683
I bought a kit, barrel, and receiver over a month or two so it was really easy to justify in my head.

I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on that RPD. It would be cool but I don't quite make enough money for it to be cool enough.

Yeah, I was checking out the kits JRA built on Atlantic, but they disappeared just as fast as they popped up.
So a kit build would be about the only way, currently.
Just not sure I'm willing to be that patient about it.

Too bad that one at auction I sent to you went for as much as a new one does.
Would've been great to see you be able to grab it for a grand or so.
Oh well, c'est la vie.

No offense guys but why buy an AK over a AR15?
>>
>>34612801
FR, which is just the regular plain one iirc. It fits what I want so I figured if anyone here had anything worthwhile to say about em.
>>
>>34612836
MEMES. To be completely honest, it's an aesthetic decision. They both perform about the same, both have decent after market, and their common calibers are about on par with each other. If you want to hunt, I'd suggest an AK just for the heavier bullet. If you're target shooting, I'd suggest an AR because they're easier to accurize.
>>
>>34612857
They're great rifles I guess? Only downside I've seen is the bolts.
>>
>>34612836
>over
Who's says you can't have both?
You AR guys seem to have this weird thinking, where it can only be one or the other.
We say, "Bof a dem"
>>
>>34612836
I like the action more, they're more fun to shoot and alot more pleasing to look at. Really both 5.45 and 7.62 is cheaper then 5.56 and bringing any sort of AK makes people drool over it at the ranges.

Pretty much this. People have a tendency to be spoiled by 2 stage AR triggers (or light, easy triggers in general) and apply that standard to everything else because it allows them to make excuses for shitty fundamentals.

You can believe whatever you want to believe, but modern AUG triggers are nowhere near as hard to shoot with as many people claim they are.

For what it's worth, the Tavor SAR is a more modern bullpup with an actually terrible trigger. Doesn't stop people from shooting it well.
