I was thinking of getting the SiCo hybrid initially, but I didnt want to mess around with like 3 different mounting systems for my guns while the can was hot. They get carbon locked with just a few mags anyways. I like dead air but SiCo has a great mil discount program and at the time they had the $200 rebate going on as well. For my suppressor, trust, stamp, and 3 muzzle devices, I paid right around $900 said and done.

Can you not speak like a nigger? I was told by an FBI armourer that they do wear out quicker than the 9mms but HK wont sell them parts. They cant go to hkparts.net and buy them so they are slowly pulling them out of service due to parts issues. The team members apparently love them.

I guess I'm going to pass on a $875 ta31f. I'm finding that the pursuit of pleasure is more enjoyable than achieving it. I can afford any optic I want, but pretending that I'm saving for something gives my life interest and purpose. My rifle is fine just the way it is, and I'm happy with what I have.

75gr TAP or 68-77gr OTM

They are not fragmenting bullets, as such are not velocity reliant. OTM bullets have a very fragile nose cone that will break at pretty much any velocity on or soon after impact. The now destabilized heavy bullet that remains has a tendency to yaw and tumble.

Depending on distance I have seen SMK more or less explode at 50 yards in gel block, which is fine too. Further out you will see it perform not unlike 5.45x45

Otherwise 55gr FMJ is fine for HD ranges, even at 11.5 you are above fragmentation velocity within 100 yards... and in the event you are further out or for whatever reason your bullet of choice doesn't perform as advertised the nice thing about the AR15 and 5.56/.223 is its large capacity and limited recoil letting you poke 30 tiny holes through someone's chest cavity regardless of fragmentation. Doesn't take much to destroy a heart of lungs.

>>

Screws on the left were the Trijicon supplied screws for the RMR. Screws on the middle were someones I got from the hardware store. Triji ones were torx, middle black ano ones were hex. Both were 6-32. Neither fit. The tapped hole in the slide would not take them past maybe 1 or 2 threads.

The screws on the right are stainless 6-32 screws. Same pitch/count/thread/size as the supplied Trijicon screws, but these ones actually went into the frame. Went in smooth, except they are bright ugly stainless like Anon's barrel, and they're fucking phillips head (not good for repeatedly taking in and out, doesn't matter much for torque spec since I believe the number is 11 ft lbs).

>>34601428

So once I found the stainless phillips head screws that would actually go into the tapped holes on the slide (none of the black ano, stainless, or zinc screws with torx or hex cap heads would go in, only the fucking phillips one went in), I found out that the tapped holes were not deep enough. Now the stainless phillips 6-32 screws I found were the exact same length as the Trijicon supplied torx ones, so that means even if the slide had been tapped to the spec/tolerance to accept the Trijicon torx screws, the clearance holes themselves still wouldn't have been deep enough.

I ended up having to go Giddy style and break out the dremel. Took about 40 thousandths off of the stainless screws so that they wouldn't bottom out.

Some. I mean once the rifle is zeroed I am not interested in long distance so pretty much something that is entertaining or fun to shoot close-medium range. Within 200 yards or more likely 75ish for average day. Range is very picky about targets that explode or leave debris so it is pretty much strictly paper. Even degradable clay must be cleaned up so some steel sounds lovely.

Meant to ask about this. I just made a pvc stand and have a furring strip upper I made with some nails and staples but the wood is so thin it already shows signs of splitting.

I kind of like this man's simple design or just a length wise hole and letting it pivot on a single 2 prong stand. Going for 8" targets anyways so that body silhouette stand is a bit much for what I'm looking for. Lots of smaller targets that I can swap between swings.

Ive gone through like a half dozen of those hooks in a single year, even doubling up on the heavier hooks. theyre pure ass, and dont withstand spalling, repeated fast strikes, or heavy calibers. We had a guy shoot straight through the hook on time and completely sever it. at $8 a piece they add up in price and its better to spend $50 and have something you dont need to constantly readjust. larger body sized targets cover up most of the wood anway leaving very little to random hits, and the 2x4's are easy to pull out, toss aside, and replace if they do get strick

You don't know what you're talking about. You can leave wood out for years in all weather. Kilned wood holds up fine, and is easier to deal with out in the woods.

I'm sorry but I must say bullshit.

Spall doesn't even touch sheperd's hooks, let alone chew through them. It barely even takes the powdercoat off after hundreds of gong hits spattering it with spall, there is absolutely no way, no matter how many thousands of rounds fired, that spall could damage a steel shepherd's hook.

I have one hook that has TWO HITS from 55gr 5.56 followed by one 9mm stacked on one of the 5.56 dents, it hasn't broken.

Let's just agree to disagree on stands because it seems we have contradictory personal experience.

>more poor information
I may be confusing you with another trip, I withdraw that accusation because I can't remember. Sorry.

Shepherd's hooks a best tho.
>>
>>34602173
Shepard hooks can't handle heavy gongs, they bend after the gong gets a good hit. . You're an idiot.

>>
>>34602233
The range I go to supplies 2x4 stands with cardboard backers for paper targets. They get so chewed up so fast that they have to be replaced by the dozen every single week.

Granted that's not on a private range, but wood gets eaten away and steel doesn't. One pistol hit could crack a 2x4, I've broken the ones at the range that way before, but it won't hurt an all-steel stand.
>>
>>34602254
I have a 12" gong on a length of conduit that I hang from two 3/8" shepherd's hooks and they don't bend at all. Get thicker hooks, don't be silly.

What's with all these weirdos in arg tonight?

Why on earth would I lie? I genuinely wish the things worked but every single time has proven awful for the heavier targets, and the lighter targets sometimes get sent flying off the hook by .308. I watched a hook take a single hit of 5.56 and while it didnt go all the way through, it completely fucked the ability for it to hold weight. Another time I just watched .308 cut through it like butter. It was a million to one shot at 300 yards but I digress.
>>
>>34602247
The first and last time I used a hook was with a gong for a garand. It was beautiful, the bullet deflected at the perfect angle into the pole and took a huge chunk out of it casing the pole to bend and break.

>>34602262
Sounds like people in Oregon are shit shots.
>>
>>34602277
I admit that I do not shoot single-hook gongs with .308, it's too much for them to handle as hits will more often than not cause the gong to bounce up off the hook and fall to the ground.

That's the reason I put the big gong on two hooks, it doesn't bounce off them.

There is absolutely no way that spall is hurting your hooks though, that's outrageous.

Ok soon to be ar guy transitioning from aks. I asked in a free float thread about the radical firearms ar15s that come with free float barrels and dat long cool handguard thing.

I was told to research them and it turns out it's a shitty company withy shitty qc. Also seem to be easily disgruntled by feedback. They make very cheap ar15s in sense there affordable but come with problems.

Anybody radical ar15 owners care to put input on theirs?

I'm looking at this one

https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/radical-firearms-ar-15-5-56soc-w-15-fcr-3507-detail.html?Itemid=0

Sounds good to me I'll put on some magpul iron sights and it should be good to go.

Only problem I have is that besides suspected qc the barrel isn't chrom lined only chrome moly which happens to be very fucking misleading.

I need chrome lined becuase I'm the type to shoot 4-6 mags back to back with out stopping which is bad for my ak since it's also not chrome lined. Will I still be ok with this ar??

I also found this one two. But like radicals it's not not chrome lined either.

https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/fr-15-semi-automatic-rifle-2955-detail.html?Itemid=0

I really don't want to build own ar just wanted something already completed for personal reasons. If neither of those two rifles are good at all. I'm just going to save up and buy a windham mpc with CAR handguards and be done with it since it's has a nice ass finish and comes with chromeline n ar handguard.

Ment ar carry handle also pic of the radical ar in question looks sexy af if it wasn't for qc problems n non chrome lined barrel.

Only reason why I like it is because of with magpul iron sights it'll give me a rifle sight radius in a carbine package which I won't get in with the windham mpc I know I can get a windham dissi ar but to me they ugly with out 20 in barrel.

Yay!

So the single hook on the left, the foot broke off because they're Chinese shit, that's one of two I've had break. The single hook on the right has taken two direct hits, one from 9mm one from 5.56. The double hooker big boy in the middle, one of those hooks took a hit from .30-06 and didn't break. I think this pic is about a year old but I still have three of these four hooks. I use the little bitty 1/4" shepherd's hooks to hold the 6" gongs for pistols now because they're even cheaper, harder to hit, and easier to straighten.

>>34602331
This one seems logically cheap, unlike the $100+ ones you add your own 2x4s to, but still looks like a haul to move around every time you go shooting.

idk man, this is the worst section I could find on my hooks and the middle section of my 2x4s. I can feel some little jaggies on the hook but nothing I'd be worried about handling, it's not even fully scoured the paint on this section. Contrast that with the section of my 2x4 hanger, that shit would slice you to ribbons and kill you from lead poisoning if your finger slipped. It's absolutely lethal. The hook pictured is one of the ones in >>34602328, it's been used and shot at 3-4 times as much as this 2x4.

>>34602391
If I dictate pace, 1 round per second for a magazine, then rest. But the gongs bounce and swivel a little, so I find myself waiting for a square shot which may slow things down to 1 round every two seconds. That's where the conduit, chains and two hooks work great, that one doesn't bounce at all, even from 7mm Rem Mag.

So I'm a bit of an AR noob. I have the standard plastic handguard son my rifle, but would like to switch to mlok ones. How hot do these things get? I won't be doing repeated mag dumps, but I'm worried that they'll heat up quickly and just hold heat.
>>
>>34604147
yeah and how is a rail cover going to be any better
what the fuck are you even asking
>>
>>34604229
The Mlok one will hold up about as well as the standard one. It won't "just hold heat", the heat shield inside will direct it and it will dissipate quickly. The only thing that will hold heat are large pieces of steel, like the barrel.

>>34604103
I think they are very good quality. The ones I have seen have excellent machining and finishing done to them. But I've never seen one of the free floats in person, there's an anon on here that has one, not sure if he's a regular or what time he posts, but I've seen pics.

Unless you're shooting 3k rounds in 5 minutes, it's not going to get hot enough to not be able to handle the gun, especially with a vfg

I'm an all steel and heavy round fag, cant really change my mind about hating light guns with light calibers, but I've recently held a couple of the few AR's I find at least slightly ergonomically comfortable(I usually find them awkward and flimsy feeling)
So I'm really considerig joining the cult of AR for dat sexy accuracy but I want some heft to it
What should I buy for less than $800
