Try the WBP Wood set from Arms of America. It does come with an oversized fat grip though if that bothers you.

If you aren't autistic about the AK74 lightening cut this might work for you.

Well I didn't go in thinking I would do well so. 2x of 5 stage with AK and remaining 3x with AR-74. Had some good shots but moving and firing, having to remember a planned scenario, there being this crazy sense of anxiety/need to go fast made for a very difficult time to get all accurate shots.

They use some match targets that you get scored off of. Ranges from 0-25m situation/firing, dragging a simulated body while firing, firing around/through cover etc...

It is a totally different world than bench firing/range firing.

I've only built ARs but want to get into AKs. For my first rifle, should I go with a 7.62 or 5.45 build? Just looking to punch some paper and play innawoods.

Also 74ullcanon, I just ordered a barrel assembly for my mk12 along with an upper and bcg so guess I'll be shooting something resembling a mod 1 next 2gun
>>
>>34173242
No, before TX shooting would be in the desert/mountains. Just never and situational shooting or running and gunning. I have no tactical abilities that much was made clear. I made some enough shots on target to not feel like a complete idiot but with people watching it was nerve wracking at times.

I feel challenged now and want to do better and improve my score/time. It was my first time ever in a match/competition scenario. I am used to being out with one or few friends.

Since moving to TX indoor ranges/few out door make non bench/lane shooting difficult.

Have you ever build an AK? It is not like "building" an AR and required actual skill and specialized/industrial tools to be done right.

>specialized/industrial tools to be done right
Well... that's not necessarily true.
But one better be extremely mechanically inclined.
You can press a barrel with all thread, and crush rivets with "other" methods.
Plenty of builds out there, that if you didn't know better, you'd swear they were professionally done.

Not talking about pressing the barrels into the receiver or anything. More like grabbing parts and slapping something together.

I've got the money for an Arsenal or something like that. I just was kind of interested in putting something together piecemeal. It's cathartic.

Besides, I'm not trying to have a 2 MOA AK off of milsurp parts for the first rifle.

>>34173474
Definitely gonna be a journey, I'm effectively gonna have to do an AR equivalent of 74uLLC for the lower at some point so it's more correct. After the upper is put together tho I'm probably gonna hold off on buying anything for a bit, gotta let the funds recoup. I'm thinking a T1 for temporary optics till it gets a leupold when I do have money

You're bringin that chinese drum next time or gonna let it stay pristine?

>building an AR
That's the thing, that's not building.
It's assembling.
Semantics, maybe.
But you're right, it's takes actual skill and real tools to build an AK.
>>
Need outside opinions for this.

Currently contemplating trading my AR-15 for an AK. Don't get me wrong, the AR is a damn good rifle considering mine runs like a raped ape with crap ammo. It's extremely accurate and very friendly to shoot.

However, with that said, it lacks something. That something that I can only attribute to AKs. Rock in magazines, charging handle on the right, stupid simple safety, and iron sights.

I guess I'm sorta looking for validation in this department, but anyone thinks I should go for it?
>>
>>34173564

I'd say just save up and get both.

I sold my AK for an AR.
Then I immediately felt the pangs of guilt and dropped $400 on a beat up WASR about 3 days ago.

You'll feel much better with two rifles than with one.
Plus it's insurance against the price of ammo raising on one or the other.
>>
>>34173600
Why not both?
Why do you only want one flavor of Ice Cream?
>>
>>34173637

Seller's remorse, yeah I get that. Guess I'm gonna have to save up all my shekels for a VEPR or Arsenal. Thanks!
>>

>>
>>34173643

You got a point. After a while, you tend to be sick of one flavor. Guess it's better to diversify!
>>
>>34173600
something to keep in mind also, its a buyers market for ARs. if you have a factory rifle, that works out in your favor, but if its a home build, you arent going to like the offers you get. just be prepared to trade down, money wise.

A rivet press of sorts, preferably one that will allow you to do the center support rivet and the trigger guard rivets.

A sight alignment jig of some kind.
A drill press.

That's more Khyber Pass than anything, and while not the best shoop, I dig what you're going for.
However
>a full size ak pistol converted into a 16" barreled rifle with a wood foregrip and triangle folding stock
That doesn't jive with the pic you shooped, and 16" barrel khyber builds with dongs are somewhat common.

It's way more popular to put an underfolder on dracos, or go for AIMR clones, or PM Md. 90 cu țeavă scurtă clones (wire sidefolder carbine/sbr)

I keep hearing "Khyber pass" to refer to a certain aesthetic.
What does it mean?

Real Khyber pass rifles are pieces of shit made in shacks.

Just buy an AK, it doesn't work like you think it does in the AK world as it does in the AR.

There are not quality "partial builds" and those that are around you are not really building anything installing a gas tube, BCG, top cover, and FCG.

There is no real building there, just assembly like IKEA but less awful in assembly.

>>34173578

Because it's a mix of parts from different kits in a combination that was never produced by a manufacturer.

Rifles produced in the Khyber Pass area are typically made of mismatched parts, so the name was adopted for that setup.

>>34176947

Depends on the ammo. But it's generally too late to jump into the surplus ammo game. And commercial ammo isn't likely to appreciate anytime soon. Something major would have to happen to cause a panic.

Yeah there are still 2nd hand ammo deals to be had. Chinese AK's are in numbers have a better ROI if you started back early when compared to gold which is crazy to think.

I NEVER buy a gun with any intention of selling it. And the guy you responded to didn't mention anything about that either, so whether it appreciates or not might be pointless.
>They should always be fired in my mind, fuck a safe queen firearm
Yup.
>>34177123
All I know is that if I had an ak with ak74 style brake etc, the chinese one would be a safe queen for me. I've handled chinese ones, and love them, but it's not going to compete with an slr/sgl rifle. I'm going to grab the gun with better features every time. If I was in your shoes and going to buy another 762x39 rifle, I'd make it a vz58 or sks so that it's new and different feeling.
An exception might be if it was one of the chinese aks with a folding sks style bayonet. I'd have some serious pride of ownership there.
>I'm trying to decide between fixed stock and underfolder, but I'm leaning towards fixed stock

Everything I buy has a price, I tend to buy things at a lower cost than most that I can resell at normal market price or higher if it appreciates if ever need be.

There are only a few firearms I would ever sell and even then I sold a Colt Python 6in in NOS condition. I am slightly regretful about that but have a buy back option if I ever want.

Why become so attached to a gun...its just metal, plastic, and wood. That said I would shoot anything I buy, no point to spend thousands just to oggle it. Now if I were rich perhaps $ would be viewed differently in acquisition of items.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't buy an M92+shoulder brace?

Would be my first AK platform gun in a LONG time and my first *actual* AK (not unconverted Saiga/Galil).

Might make it similar to pistol in pic related

Also, brace recommendations for adequate length/cheek weld. Not opposed to going AR/AR folder style at all.

Lastly, how cheap does 7.62x39 go for these days? Again, been out of guns for years and back then the only x39 I had was an SKS for a few months that got little range time.

>what are my options?
There's not many options, but I'd go with a czechpoint gun with a fixed stock. And I'd get a folding stock with it too so I could swap it from time to time like I do anyway. It really makes a slick vehicle gun because of how the folder works, but many months of the year I prefer the extra comfort of the fixed. I don't even think the folder stock feels bad, but not everyone agrees.
A friend of mine has a century vz2008, been great so far but he doesn't have that many rounds through it yet.
>>
>>34178066
>galil style brace

The reason why I'm a little weary of ordering one of those is the fixed LOP. I'm just afraid I won't enjoy it and then I'll have a $200 brace sitting around. Like yeah I'd rather not have an AR-style brace but if it means adjustable LOP than I'm all for it.

Any reason why draco > M92? Other than aesthetically unless that was your reasoning.

I have it listed at $825. When I bought my kit they were $650 from Rguns for the 1968, and the hand select option was $100. On top of that, the hand select 1968 kits are no longer available, AND the price of the regular kits has gone up to $725. By all my considerations this kit should be considered underpriced. Sure it's not a flawless non-refurb but I have one of those, and I wouldn't sell it for less than $1200, and I've seen some of the good ones sell for over $2000. How often can you buy a non refurbished kit with matching, serialized wood?

To be completely honest I was really considering your kit and if I wasn't already needing to get this 88 kit built and if I wasn't really wanting a proper AK74M clone I would have probably bought it with my XM money

Know of any books on US skinheads? Never understood that since I am what they want to crub stomp but I can still kinda sympathize since from their view they are in danger.
>>
>>34182702
Couldn't point you in any good direction m8.
It's mostly folk/oral history of a group lineage alive since the 70's.

Every group and genre of RAC music has its own adherents and believers and they all go slightly different ways.

I grew up in an 80% black city and went to an almost 90% black school, so for me it was more about doing what I could to keep my country "clean".

I only ever saw black people doing horrible, trashy and rude things so I thought "oh, these aren't people; they're an animalistic cancer trying to ruin the world for everyone else".

Young anon felt himself to be a superhero, making the world better for people who would never understand and appreciate what he was doing.

Of course as I aged I developed better critical reasoning and grew out of it, but it's a very appealing way to "make a difference" for lower class white urban teenagers who can't see beyond the ghettoness of their block/city.

Depends on your definition of uncomfortable. If you like having a good cheek weld then you may want to reconsider.

If you're interested in the ideology check out Dr. William Luther Pierce's speeches on youtube. There's a playlist called Dr William L Pierce Wisdom on youtube with a ton of content from him although the visuals are edited in. Pierce himself was a physicist who quit his job to become a political activist when George Lincoln Rockwell was assassinated and went on to become probably the most influential white nationalist of all time. What he says is true but most skinheads are degenerates and dummies who are in it for the wrong reasons and don't understand their own ideology to be honest.

I was thinking more in terms of how it digs into your shoulder. I have an SKS and the 7.62x39 recoil doesn't bother me at all, but it seems like with a small thin stock it might hurt.

If you're worried about the "horseshoe" digging into your shoulder, the GP-25/GP-30 buttpad has a relief cut in it specifically to fit on underfolders.

Nowhere near "authentic"

Nope.
They take the Vepr KM guns, which were refurbed full autos; they're demilled, and Legion rebuilds them on American receivers with American barrels.
You too, Go read the description on their site.

They aren't anything like actual Veprs.

>>
>>34182674
Thank you m8 but they're still at RGuns if you want one of your own. Honestly I'm just thankful that the exact year kit that I was wanting happened to be the most common and the cheapest Russian AK74 kits out there. Long before I even desired to get into kits I really liked 1988 AK74s and AKS74s and bought the appropriate stuff for my SLR to dress it up as something from that year. I didn't have to pay a bunch or seek out that exact kit I wanted, what I wanted was the most common and cheapest and that is really a first for me in all of my years of being into firearms

>>34186512
Fixed because I don't have one yet, and Chimps convinced me to stick with the shiny and that the correct periods of plum types that we considered correct (i.e. 1988 should be matte based on it) is actually incorrect as the vast majority of unissued 1988 kits came in with shiny grips. I can swap the grips out whenever I want so that's not that important, but deciding on wanting a fixed stock was the important decision

Yes, I should have a 74uLLC receiver by the end of the month-ish and the builder I'm going to go through has a build time of "at least three months", so in a perfect world I could have the completed rifle by the end of the year if everything goes smoothly

No, the receiver will be in my possession in a month or so and the builder is saying at least three months to have the rifle built. I'm not buying the receiver directly from David at 74uLLC

>>34187701
I hate waiting, just waiting a week for a gun to arrive at my FFL is torture

Are you sending your 87 kit in right when you get your receiver? If not, a-am I gonna have mine in first? If I do I feel guilty for cutting you in line after you helped me out

>>34187712

>>
>>34187816
Depends on when Meridian decides to finish my gun. I'll probably call them tonight for another status update before I leave for A-Kon.
>>
>>34187816
Oh gotcha. I ordered mine direct and it was 11 months. I got just over a month on a build now. Best thing to do is just block tht shit out of your mind. It's worked for me and I can honestly care less if it takes over the 2- 3 months, or less (in what fairly tail land) I was quoted at this point.
>>
>>34187816
Don't worry about something like that

Depending on when he needs payment, it probably won't be possible for me to submit mine immediately, but I'll try and get it in ASAP because I want to take it to MSW for blank fire.
>>
>>34187873
I know this isn't going to happen but if magically my rifle was completed before yours I will kill myself for you. Meridian was who I was gonna go through and I'm kind of glad I'm not because reading about all of the hoops you have had to jump through to get updates seems really annoying and frustrating and would have made me mad

>>34187877
Thing is though when I get excited about something like a gun coming in its all I can think about. My wife gets mad because I never shut up about this kit already, and now it's gonna be even worse once the wait actually begins. I feel like a little kid counting down the days and hours until Christmas except even worse

>>34187984
Oh yeah I remember you saying you wanted it ready for MSW. And I can't help it, I was thinking of you were sending yours in immediately I was gonna wait a month or so you'd get yours first
