I guess that could be an issue. Have you used an AR15 before? Are you familiar with how much force it normally takes?

Because the mag catch does look like it extends into the magwell a little too far, as though the catch cutout were cut too deep laterally. But barely, BARELY. Some of my ARs look like that and they don't take a thousand suns to insert. Pic related, two random ones, the bottom of which looks about like yours.
>>34094315
>>34094326
>>34094343

You could probably build a shim out of any number of things to fix that. Or bevel the mag catch further.

The whole top of the magazine where the feedlips are is much narrower than how far into the magwell the magazine catch extends. The magazine itself should push the mag catch out of the way.

I can think of a handful of reasons it might be hard but I think it's probably you not being hard enough on it. Yes, magazines should slide in with relative ease. Inertia helps, don't do it slowly like you're trying to avoid damage. Put some arm weight into a fluid movement.

Also backing the button off a couple of turns won't do anything but make the button stick out too far. You want the shank of the magazine catch more or less flush with the surface of the button.

imo check for burrs, push the mag catch button a few times in a few different directions and see if it's catching on something, and put a nicer bevel on the mag catch lobe.

Put a nice flat bevel on it. Not just rounded over with a file, but flat, 45 degrees. The catch is supposed to work as an overtravel stop but you'll be relying on the upper receiver for that if you bevel it.

Inserting a magazine just takes some positive force to overcome the pressure of the mag catch spring. If you feel that it is binding more than it should it probably is. Look at the magazine itself for us and see if there is scratching or gouging on any part that inserts into the magwell.

I know there's a 14.7" so you can use an A2 and get over the 16" minimum, but 17.7" isn't subject to regulation by the NFA to my understanding

I can't figure out if they actually zero them at the factory. I think they just have someone shoot it handheld, not on a rest or anything. Mine is off center and I can't tell if it's zeroed that way or if it was a mistake, or if the gun just sends rounds to the left.

New to ARs here, bought a cheap upper and a cheap BCG from PSA and shot it for the first time this week.

Had a FTE and then a double feed with some steel case occur while a friend was shooting it. This was about 5 rounds into his steel case hollow point Wolf, it had run a couple hundred rounds of brass case federal before that just fine. My AKM ate literally everything I fed it, but I've heard ARs can be picky... does this mean I should avoid steel case altogether now? Pulling the jammed BCG out and extracting the spent case stuck in there was a fucking hassle, don't really want to repeat it. I didn't shoot it again after this FTE/double feed.

Thanks.

Probably the Goblin, which is a shorty M4 that Ubisoft likes to put in its games. I've seen it in Ghost Recon FS, Splinter Cell BL, Watchdogs and its model was used for the Bushmaster in Far Cry 4. It's something of a signature gun for them. Ubisoft never likes to use an actual M4 because they think it's too mainstream. They tend to go for the HK416 or the Goblin when they need an M4-like gun.

Because nobody has ever owned a POF rifle or played Watch_Dogs.

The goblin looks like any number of SBR ARs. I've only heard that POF shit when reading wiki articles on the games.

Laser fags, is the new Dbal A4 worth a shit compared to the MAWL? Its fuck huge with the white light integrated into the IR box (not Wilcox fuckhuge), but is there any benefit to its setup over having two seperate units like a MAWL + SF scout?

>>34097727
No. Get a MAWL or PEQ15

I bought the A4 but ended up returning it because it was just too fucking huge and got an ATPIAL-C, which is honestly still pretty large if you're not used to having a laser on your rifle. The ATPIAL has a built-in illuminator but I still keep an M600V on it for actual illumination. The built-in one on the C would be enough for indoors and very close outdoor use (think 25y) but for outdoors you're going to want more umph than it will provide.

On my backup rifle I went with separate laser and illuminator (PERST-4/M600V) to save money and honestly I think it would be fine for 99% of anyone to use that setup. Plinking/hunting at night. It's not an ideal setup for fighting people that also have NV, but ask yourself if you think you're honestly going to do that. Honestly all you're losing with that setup is the ability to activate an IR laser + illuminator at the same time, while also having the ability to immediately switch to white light on your M600V. Is that worth the price difference to you?

ATPIAL-C + M600V = $1600+

PERST-4 + M600V = $750 or so

Just need to weigh your realistic uses vs. budget.

And I've never used a MAWL as I don't ball that hard.

Pic related is the PERST-4 + m600v

Oh and the PERST-4 is also unregulated so you can see the beam 100% of the time, not so with the US civilian models (regulated DBAL, ATPIAL-C). You probably don't need that much juice but it absolutely makes it more fun to play with.

The MAWL says it's "Class 1+" which is still pretty cucked in comparison of power of an unregulated laser. You can find unregulated "full power" DBAL/ATPIAL's as well but they're about another $1k and used. Also L3 will not warranty unregulated ATPIAL's. Take that for what you will.
>>
>>34097944
Thanks for the insight. I'm still a ways off before diving into IR shit and I just noticed that IR boxes that try to "do it all" with white light, IR flood, IR, and visible laser generally don't seem to be as popular as having two seperate illumination devices. My limited experience with IR was using PEQ16's (which are tip top garbage) in the muhreens and I noticed that every other branch kept their ATPIAL's with a white light.

Happy to help, I'm not an expert but I know about what I've bought.

If I were going to do it over I'd probably just go with the separate setup and use the extra cash on ammo/hookers/blow.
>>
>>34098000
That's the main reason to go with the brand. They don't plan selling to US government agencies, so they don't have to restrict the power level.

If by "standard" you mean "3.0 Oz buffer and chrome-silica spring" you should opt for an H or H2 buffer.
