Its a noncritical spring. I tweak selector detent springs all the time, I'd say probably 4 of these rifles have clipped or stretched springs to adjust how the selector feels. Sometimes I'll clip off too many coils then have to stretch them back out again for more tension. They've never been a problem.

There's no reason you couldn't put a welding rod/pencil lead/stick/rolled up piece of paper in between the spring and detent to lengthen it either, but those things may deform over time where the spring won't.

Some neat reviews about the A1 upper:

Man, I just took my rifle to the range for the first time since I had an armorer install a compact gas block. FTE FTE FTE. Thought the blem reman ammo was to blame then noticed the bolt had no rearward movement at all after the 5 (manually chambered) round.

The lgs that did it seemed like nice guys, perfectly pleasant. I just hate that now I have to ask them to fix it or give me my money back.

would it be a good idea to get a 10/22 to practice marksmanship with since the ammo is cheaper?

i finally got my AR done, but 1000 rounds is like $400. i knew this going in, but for basic shooting i could get a lot more practice in for $250

ideally i would shoot the 22 say 90% of the time at the range, and then switch to the AR for say 50 rounds.

You should probably look around more, you should be able to find Wolf Gold for to $0.30 or less a round and steel case for closer to $0.20 a round.

But you can never really go wrong having a .22 around as well, they are cheap and fun and will teach you basic marksmanship just fine.

mine is the original PST 1-4, as opposed to the Gen II. It's good but I think there are probably better scopes for the price point. Eye relief is not short but is kind of critical. Glass isn't bad but isn't great either.
