I didn't shill any vendor, I put blame where it lies.

But now that you mention it, Brownells has been a price and selection leader for at least the 20 years I've been using them, with an industry-leading warranty that literally can't be topped.

If you backed over a $2,000 product with a Cat 15 years after you bought it, Brownells would still take it back for a full refund. That's no bullshit.

I now publicly recommend that everyone buy as much as possible from Brownells, which consistently offers new and exciting products at extremely competitive prices, sometimes as much as 30% less than other online vendors. Their flat rate shipping is also a ground breaking service, especially on heavy products like ammo.

Further, Brownells recently extended its dealer discount pricing to ALL customers, regardless of licensee status. Bravo, Brownells!

What do you all use for transporting your rifles?

All I have are the hard plastic cases they came with. Shit for storage.

I'm thinking I want a soft case with storage and enough room for two rifles.

Any suggestions?

Brownells made a mistake. They will repair the mistake, if the customer would let them. They will still repair the mistake, and will repair the mistake forever. If the customer won't let them repair the mistake, how is it their fault?

>>34027350
Its a noncritical spring. I tweak selector detent springs all the time, I'd say probably 4 of these rifles have clipped or stretched springs to adjust how the selector feels. Sometimes I'll clip off too many coils then have to stretch them back out again for more tension. They've never been a problem.

There's no reason you couldn't put a welding rod/pencil lead/stick/rolled up piece of paper in between the spring and detent to lengthen it either, but those things may deform over time where the spring won't.
>>
>>34027382
Use a pin to find out how long it is.
Cut something that length that will act as a plug, drive it in.
Use standard length spring.
>>
>>34027382
What's wrong with putting some stuff in there or just stretching the buffer detent spring?

BROWNELLS DID NOTHING WRONG.
>>
Some neat reviews about the A1 upper:
>Finish is good. Fits relatively tight on lower receiver. Carry handle groove is not in spec. After market components and optics that mount to the carry handle will not work.

>As one reviewer noted, the channel on top of the carry handle will not accept a optic mount that will drop in on surplus uppers. If that isn't part of your build, it's fine. Good luck finding the rear sight parts, sources are drying up.

>Fit and funish are excellent, however if you intend to use a carry handle mount be advised this upper's carry handle is approximately 2.8mm too narrow or the bevels at the bottom of the channel were not cut at the correct angle, and the mount will not drop in. Sadly, I need to be able to for this build, and I had to return the upper. If that's not an issue for you, this is a solid upper at a great price.

>This is a solid upper with great fit and perfect finish. Would have been 5 stars but the rear sight divot is very slightly crooked on mine; the rifle still shoots great but I can't un-see it.

I wouldn't either, I'd buy from Nodak.

And if I were in MSDs orthopoedic shoes, I would have had the part shipped to me directly, seen the problem, returned it to Brownells and not purchased another receiver from them.

But Brownells has an iconclad return policy which can't be overlooked in this instance. They will ALWAYS accept a return.

>>34027437
Measure the gas tube. If it's ~7" from receiver to the gas block, it's carbine. If it's ~9", it's midlength.

Well color me shocked and a fag. Looking through past emails/posts I tried to have it shipped straight to John, but because of lolUPSMI that wasn't possible. It showed up and was immediately sent over to John. Which would explain it taking practically a month in total before everything was all sorted.

Brownells is still shit with their A1 uppers.

Man, I just took my rifle to the range for the first time since I had an armorer install a compact gas block. FTE FTE FTE. Thought the blem reman ammo was to blame then noticed the bolt had no rearward movement at all after the 5 (manually chambered) round.

The lgs that did it seemed like nice guys, perfectly pleasant. I just hate that now I have to ask them to fix it or give me my money back.

I understand it's a little tiny hole you gotta line up, but I'd expect me to make that mistake, not an actual shop that took my money and said they could do it easily.

I think comparing a completed, low-demand product to a piecemeal in-demand conglomeration is unfair.

That said, had you ordered from Brownells, you would have received your parts via predictable ground shipping and backorders would have clearly been communicated to you before any charge was made. Further, if you were dissatisfied with Brownells' prices or shipping performance, you could request an RMA at any time with no fear of delay, restocking fees or annoying questions.

tl;dr I believe your choice of vendor is to blame.

would it be a good idea to get a 10/22 to practice marksmanship with since the ammo is cheaper?

i finally got my AR done, but 1000 rounds is like $400. i knew this going in, but for basic shooting i could get a lot more practice in for $250

ideally i would shoot the 22 say 90% of the time at the range, and then switch to the AR for say 50 rounds.

I'm looking build my first AR. I've found a few kits online.
http://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15-05/rifle-kits.html
Can anyone tell me what the main differences are between the kits there?
Any idea which one would be best for a rifle beginner? I've mostly messed with shotguns up until recently.
Any help is appreciated

The only handstop that really looks halfway decent is the XTM kit but I'm not sure how well my hand will really fit on it. VLTOR rails don't sit right on top of each other and they don't make anything bigger than 13 slots so I'm probably gonna get something to only index the front of my hand with
