The banks held their deposits and the digital currency was shielded during the collapse yet food goes for a premium within the cities and the peoples accounts didnt survive intact. MPs rule this world and carry a heavy hand about them. NYPD and other large police forces are militarized further, quality is reduced and a true statsi is born. The vast navy at Norfolk is salvaged to a small extent, carriers and the largest vessels excluded. Theyre simply too expensive for the new state to operate. Smaller ships patrol the coasts and attempt to project their power but the thought of losing a vessel cripples their capabilities as commanders are reluctant to put their ships in harms way. Most choose to attack and harass those that they know they can overwhelm. Often a round never has to be fired and a drained mentality leads to capitulation.
Checkpoints are set up throughout the metro areas and MRAPs, IFVs and the like are static, defensible positions in the face of a starving urban population. Those that wanted a fight were worked out early on and the smart fighters fled. Many just stayed, adjusted to the new world and found jobs in a leaner, more critical economy.
