I barely ever clean mine, but I just use 12ga brush and boresnake in the gas tube.
Otherwise the rest is pretty standard spraying with remoil, wiping off, and boresnaking. I have a set of picks too, but don't use them unless stuff is caked on especially hard somewhere.

Well, your run of the mill AR-15's jags aren't gonna fit as intended with the AK-47/M and AK-74s, due to bore size. I got lucky and had a cleaning kit and rod that fits perfectly for everything for my saiga AK-74.

Otherwise, it's gonna be the same deal cleaning. Clean the metal with Hoppes or something similar, and lube the metal parts with gun oil, especially where there is metal-to-metal contact.

I want to find someplace to reach out to 300m - 500m. But that just doesnt seem to exist anywhere in GA

Is Golden Tiger worth the extra cost? If I'm just going to be shooting steel, should I just get Wolf ammo instead? Is Golden Tiger worthwhile for home defense? By the way, I'm only referring to 5,45x39mm here.
>>
Back to my Ty Jester question in the previous thread.

It was dropped to me when I bought pic related. Bulgarian AK74 supposedly built by ex-Arsenal builder Ty Jester. Paid $550 and it looks cerakoted. Got the rifle, a midwest ind rail, a tapco shit mag, and a nice circle 10 bulgy. All matching including the firing pin.

>SN ends in 069 so all the parts say 69 on them
>kek
>>
>>33823705
Wolf, from what I gather, has a wide standard deviation in terms of muzzle velocity. Not sure about golden tiger, but I'd imagine it to be better than wolf.

So it comes down to, do you just want to shoot for shooting sake, or try and get consistency?
>>
>>33823771
Did you pick this up off Armslist in Georgia?!
>>
>>33823705
Well, Rob at AKOU just did some testing and golden tiger had a pretty high standard deviation, which means the speed of the bullets is not very consistent. So this will affect accuracy.
Wolf actually tested better than GT, so I'd say get that.
As for home defense it depends. Are you in an apartment? 5.45 will most likely go right through a person, so if you have neighbors you may want something else.

>>33823778
>Wolf, from what I gather, has a wide standard deviation in terms of muzzle velocity. Not sure about golden tiger,

Check out rob's video. Wolf was a lot better than GT.
>>
>>33823778
I really just want to shoot the rifle, but I feel like I should at least get some Golden Tiger while it's available to try it out.

In Minnesota but yes on Armslist. It looks cerakoted to my eyes as the finish is much much harder than the standard "black paint" finish that comes off easily.

>Wolf was a lot better than GT.

whoops. it was Brown Bear, NOT wolf, in his video.
>>
>>33823795

Also, Rob was testing 7.62x39, so hard to tell if the quality of GT 5.45 will have similar results or not.

Rob tested using 7.62x39, not 5.45x39 though. I remember he did release a video comparing Wolf to 7n6, but I cannot find it for the life of me
>>
>>33823870
This is true but id venture a guess and say he has a 5.45 video on the way.
Plus there are quite a few tests on 5.45 ammo that people have done and posted on the AK files under the ammo section.

It's not really normal because on a factory AK the plastic handguards are made oversized and press fit into the receiver so it's tight. All you can really do is shim out the handguards and try and make it tighter. Seems pretty annoying to have it move back and forth like that.

How to zero AK?
>>
>>33827178

For the Sider to work as intended there are 2 ways to do it correctly.

1. Official soviet method, 100m on the #3 setting, aim at bottom edge of target, adjust until bullets land 6" above aim point

2. 100M on #1, zero point of aim= point of impact.
>>
>>33827178
Yes
>>
>>33827178
set to 100 meters(1 on the slide)
go to 100 meters
shoot gun.
adjust until zeroed

After that, when you go to farther ranges (let's say 200 meters!) and you set your slider to 2, guess what? It'll be adjusted for the new distance. Neat how that works huh?
>>
>>33827192

This really is the only way, anything else the slider will not be calibrated.

100m on #1 is for aiming Point of aim= point of impact

the soviet method of 100m on setting #3 was for a belt buckle hold.
Mosins,SKS's,AK's all were zeroed the same exact way. 100M on #3 with a 6 o clock hold.

>same thing for the locking latch on the front of the receiver of course
-when pressing rivets, press slightly too far to cause the receiver to concave slightly around rivet heads, not much, almost undetectable
>add Ted Marshall grip plate with proper 5 spot weld pattern and re-rivet the trigger guard with appropriate anti trigger slap rivet
-add right side trigger pin bump. This has always annoyed the fuck out of me on Saigas/SGLs
>add left side Y stamp and right side | stamp
-add faux third pin fuck you ATF
>weld BCG to add full auto rate reducer trip thing. SGLs don't have that for some reason, however Saigas do. Annoys me
-engrave selector notches
>weld over SGL selector markings and add appropriate semi/full Cyrillic markings by either using an actual stamping die or using electric etching which gives a close appearance of having been stamped
-do the same thing with the SAIGA engraving -> AK-104
>scrub everything legally possible to scrub on the receiver
-replace the rear sight with a 500M sight for me because I'm a pussy and can't fucking do it myself
>turn barrel portion under handguards to appropriate AK-104 diameter on lathe. No finishing pass, keep it rough
-add faux dimples to RSB (welding over the pin to hide it)
>same thing on the AK104 FSGB
-zero front sight and add witness mark to front sight drum
I think that's it. The only thing that's really impossible is adding the chrome over the crown. That's why I don't really like cutting down chrome lined barrels. The chrome should extend over the crown.

You may be thinking of the true angle of 45 degree gas blocks, which is actually closer to like 65 or something. You may be right, but I imagine it would be much much easier to drill everything at right angles.
>>
>>33833712
You don't really do that with ak platforms. Whatever caliber you buy is what you're going to shoot. Reason being the barrels simply don't swap out, the mags wells are cut to take one caliber mag, and there are different type bullet guides that must be installed. You will most likely do conversion work on a vepr but that will he barrel compnenets, trigger, ect...

45 degree cut leaves a very thin part of the barrel

Your first ak should be in either 5.45 or 7.62

>keep in mind i shoot for fun not for practicality but i do want accuracy and reliability
Fun is my #1 priority.
My first ak was in 54r, and in today's market, it would have been a 308. It's only 35c/r for noncorrosive ammo after shipping and fun as hell to shoot. And there's lots of higher quality ammunition options if you need to have it.
>>33833850
>Your first ak should be in either 5.45 or 7.62
I'd never say you have to start in any particular caliber.
But 762x39 is a really nice middle ground that has a lot of the mud busting potential of bigger stuff, that fun recoil, and is absolutely fine to 400 yard steel clanking. Objectively, I think a 556 ak is a better choice than 545, but subjectively, I like 545 a lot more more.

I'm actually thinking about changing to a regular wood handguard. I don't like mag changes with the dong. You can see on my dong where the mag hits.
If I do keep the dong on, I might consider a cheese grater upper hg.
>>
>>33834172
I'm with you on that, mag changes with a 7.62x39 rifle and dong are harder than without. they seem like a good idea on a 5.45x39 rifle tho, less mag curve.
>>
>>33833186
holy shit mega plz.
>>
>>33834185
Truth
But the dong feels so good in my hand, it's hard to give up.

Is there a reason to ever want the poly coat vs non coated?
>>
>>33834545
long term storage
>>
>>33834545
non coated is worse versus water, but your ammo should be in gas sealed containers
>>
>>33834554
So why does non-coated even exist then?

Pretty exited. Probably going with the AIMS first. Wonder how his full auto stamping came out
>>

Like 10-11 months from the time I ordered the first one. I threw another one on there once I got my aims kit pretty much after they became available

This whole video is full of cringe but the comments are worse.

In order the AK failures look like a RAS47, an IO, then an SLR of some sort.

Just delving into 74m development and feel like I'm in the weeds.

About what time frame did the "2" mold 74m stocks come about. Also nice get on your racetrack stock awhile back, are these pretty scarce?
