No, it's a light machine gun based off the AK pattern. It's like an ak with a beefier stamped receiver and thicker barrel. Traditionally, RPK barrels are 23ish inches long if I remember correctly.

Other differences:
>RPK has windage adjustment on the rear sight

Both the RPK and AKM rifles are full auto capable in their unneutered forms.

The FM Vepr AK rifles are essentially semi auto RPKs with reduced-length barrels and an AKM warsaw stock. They maintain the thicker RPK receiver and barrel profile, thus they use an RPK lower handguard.

Here's my wife shooting my FM Vepr. I swapped the plastic furniture for refinished Russian wood laminate.

MOS. I originally planned to just Roland the gun, but I didn't like the idea of paying $300+ just to have my slide milled and refinished for the RMR. The MOS system works just fine, and if Aimpoint ever drops a micro dot that beats the RMR into paste, Glock will probably have an adapter plate for it in short order so I can keep my existing slide.

Glock OEM barrels I haven't bothered to look for simply because I want as many of my guns as possible to share the same 1/2x28 thread pitch instead of Glock's LH metric pitch. The Scorpion is getting a 3-lug, but my Glock will likely end up wearing a Blacklist or S3F barrel unless I cave and buy a KKM in 1/2x28 while resigning myself to eventually buying a second KKM barrel for the comp.

Normal AKM upper handguard and normal stock for a stamped receiver.

RPK lower handguards are harder to locate in stock, I had to get mine off gunbroker and it was the only one listed. I know you can get regular AKM ones to fit, but it requires some sanding and Dremel work to make space for the thicker barrel.

I shot my kit build for the first time today. It's a great shooter however there were 1 or 2 times where the bolt didn't go all the way home after ~300 rounds. I think ammo may be to blame as the headspace was okay and everything is in spec on the rifle.

In regards to volatility the pricing of most RU items has been in flux the last year but more so over the last 6 months. An increase in people buying direct and then reselling a few items has offset the pricing and makes for a market where prices are fluid and not set. Saturation is good for the buyer. RPK wood sets used to be around $200+ I just sold my last used wood set for $90 and a New/NOS for $110.

6 months ago that same set would have been $160 New/NOS. It's just a changing of the times!
