Why would I want an antiquated rifle chambered in an outdated cartridge? Why should I want a rifle with magazines that max out at 20 rounds? Why would I want a rifle that weighs more empty that my AR or AK weighs fully loaded? Why would I prefer to carry 3 20 round magazines instead of 6 30 round magazines at the same weight?

My Battle Rifle has a 24 round magazine and is sturdy and accurate as fuck.

It also shoots match grade ammo.

What's not to love?
>>
>>33508086
just get a low mount for the optic and youll be fine.
>>
>>33509153
Its ugly
Its out of production
The bullet technology it has is out dated
It only makes sense if your government literally subsidizes the cost of your ammo
>>
>>33509176
Ugly? I find it quite beautiful.

The ammo is the best there is.
>>
>>33509153
It weighs 12 pounds and it doesn't do anything particularly better than any other battle rifle.
>>
>>33509196
If you have a penchant for something that looks like Jules Verne-esque scifi would be like, I can understand.

The ammo is acceptable, not superior.
When your government is helping you pay for it, it might be the best you can get.

Post those then. Maybe there is something there that ill find appealing.

Your reliance on calling 'sour grapes' shows a real lack of understanding or maybe just laziness. Im not mad that what costs you $400 to own, would be $4000 in burgerland. I mean shit, my battle rifles as configured cost over that right now. I just see nothing appealing in them.

Well those pics of the modernized ones look interesting, if they could unfuck the pistol grip.

Sometimes you just need to shoot a bonded bullet that stays above 1800fps past 400y.

The barrel is a match grade barrel made by Grünig & Elmerig, it's the same type of barrels used for precision rifles for Olympic events.

The barrel alone costs 2k.

It basically turns the Stgw 57 into a precision rifle for 300 meters. That's why so many people upgrade it.

It's very addicting and people want to have the best mods for their guns.

Imbel is surprisingly a high quality manufacturer, IIRC they got a shit ton of tools from FN when they adopted the FAL so it's basically the same situation as Bulgaria producing really good AKs

If the FAL can be run and maintained just fine with a railed dust cover that gets bolted on and left in place indefinitely, why doesn't anyone make a closed-top FAL receiver with a rail machined into it?

It's an arsenal. It's pretty good my dude, BUT the paint is pretty shit to be honest. It will start coming off during cleaning. I think there's equally as good options elsewhere for less as well. Mines in 5.45 but I think they also make a 5.56 model, so if I had to do it over I would go with the 5.56. If you are thinking about getting one, it's your money, but I have a tiny bit of buyers remorse.

Ammo is easier to obtain than 5.45 (not like 5.45 is rare or anything but not every store carries it (excluding online)) and you can shoot 223 as well. More ammo selection, even the cheap stuff isn't that much more expensive than milsurp which is corrosive.

Circle 10 magazines are the same prices or not too much difference from each other.

Not to sound like some crazy prepper, but you would at least be able to share ammo easily and there would be more common than 5.45 in those scenarios.

I don't reload but I would also guess 5.56 would be easier to reload.

Since precision shooting is being mentioned, might as well ask:
How does one get more comfortable with holding a battle rifle steady for shooting? I can carry it pretty easily for longer periods, but keeping my non-dominant arm stable during sighting is a bit hard. I figure stance isn't the real reason, but for listing I'll mention I am standing in a more civilian non-dominant foot first (unlike chest forward if you were used to plate carriers). I can hit paper, but often by trying to adapt to my wilder sway rather than properly keeping steady.

Right now I'm sticking lower distances within 50m range just to get my bearings with more precise shooting than "I hit the old tractor tire we threw in the pit". Got some basic paper now for targets that I slap to old wooden pallets.

I don't have too much problem with other firearms, but being new to battle rifles I'm definitely not holding steady. Any tips appreciated, and I'll answer as I can.

I have a bipod and tripod if I'm shooting off a bench and not prone/runninangunin
>>
>>33544700
I can get a bipod if I wanted, but I'd rather be able to use it properly whilst standing; innawoods and if I need to deal with coyotes/bobcats/bears on the property, I want to be able to make clean, steady shots.

>>33544837
Just use a standing or kneeling position. The stances have been fairly standard for a long time now. Even a heavy as fug battle rifle weighs what, 14lbs? No big deal

y tho

>uses several different not-quite-interchangeable magazine patterns
I bet that works really well.
Get a M&P10, you dummy. They're about the same price, they use normal magazines, and they're lightweight, accurate, and reliable.

Least they've got taste.
>>
>>33545560
awesome, thanks for the feedback. I'm going to look into that
>>
>>33545518
Because when it came out FAL mags were $4 and KAC pattern mags that didn't suck donkey dong were $110
>>
>>33547418
So make a fucking LAR-8A Elite Operator 2 that takes normal mags and quietly discontinue the old one. This isn't rocket science.

why

That involves engineering and testing.
Maybe they are sitting on 10 rifles that haven't sold in 7 years

Because they stopped falling for the meme.

They're replacing them all with Desert Tech MDRs. That's why it's taking so long for them to hit the market.

Dubs of truth right here, friend. The SCAR rifle was always a meme. A plastic piece of shit meme. The Belgians know it, and now with Trump in the WH they can't give us raw deals like they could with Obummer!
>>
>>33548762
I really hope that there's someone on /k/ who preordered an MDR years ago and gets super butthurt every time someone makes a joke comparing it to Duke Nukem Forever or posting facetious explanations for why it's late again.
That would be great.

So is every part of a CETME G3 bad?
There's a C308 with a PTR lower, receiver, and barrel somewhere around me for $625. Is it still a bad buy with the PTR parts in it?

Where do I get a Imbel GL receiver?

So /brg/ I bought some surplus FAL mags I believe to be Belgian based on the the base plate markings. The problem is some of them dont fully seat into my FAL. The one mag that does seat properly has a oval on the back protrusion and the ones that dont fit have a smaller circle. Since I dont have a camera available atm here is a shitty mspaint drawing of the back of the mags.

Any ideas as to what a solution might be? Return them bust out a file ect.

All C308s have a PTR barrel and receiver. The issue is that all the other parts are from shitty CETME kits that Century throws together.

Probably have to wait for more details on this.

We don't have the civilian SSR/CSR because there was a massive order of the SSR receivers just last year that took up the South Carolina plant's run.

I got tired of waiting last year and got an MWS in the meantime

This post was made as bait and was given 30 replies. None of what he said made any sense. The guns trigger is great and its just a rock and lock mag change. The controls are easier than an ak because you can reach the charging handle with you index finger of your right hand with an adjusted grip.

Pure hogwash

Can anyone to tell me the difference between a g3 wood stock and a cetme wood stock?
>>
>>33552181

>>

Why would you not want more guns?

Why are you looking for excuses to not buy more guns?

You're a fucking disgrace to the name /k/ommando.
>>
>>33536905
I'm confused, how is it stupid? It doesn't really bolt on, i have one and the "bolts" are just screws that tighten it on and clamp it to the rails.

I think the answer is the tooling would be more complicated and then you wouldn't be able to get to the chamber and head for work.
>>
What's a good entry-level battle rifle?

So far all I've found is the C308, I'm hoping I at least get some options. I'm looking to spend <$1000.
>>
>>33553499
308 AR
>>
>>33553499
Don't get a C308. Get a PTR, AR10, or find a used DSA.
