Fair. Like I said I dont own one, so my .02 cents mean nothing, but from what I see it seems like it has 'alot going on'. Might be over engineered. Not sure if anyone has one here, but hopefully someone can give you a sitrep on it.
>>
>>33505122
Yeah, I agree, it does have a lot of shit happening. But it's hard to find a pack that size with those kinds of features.

I've been looking for a pack in the 20 liter range that has compression straps that have the ability to wrap the full front of the pack, and has compression straps on the bottom. I was looking more for bungee cord on the back also, but the compressible panel would work. More of a single main pocket like it has. I want wand pockets, but I'm pretty sure goruck or someone else makes a mesh, molle bottle pocket, so any empty one wouldn't be too annoying with the compression straps.

It's hard to find all of that in a smaller pack. HPG tarahumara is on the list as well, but I'm afraid it might be too small.

Much better designed and built than your average "tactical" pack, but at their price you're getting into Mystery Ranch territory, which is superior in almost every respect, especially In terms of yoke design and weight distribution, which are the really important elements. MR also has better options to wear over armor/plate carriers.

>>33506341
I don't have an account there (never really needed one). Are the Type 56 chest rigs on Amazon quality, or are they shit knock-offs?
>>
Okay /k/ommandos, I googled this and got jack shit so I'm asking here: Does type IIIA soft armor provide any level of protection from shrapnel whatsoever? Even coincidentally?
>>
>>33506361
nigga its a fucking chicom
>>
>>33506435
What is a bullet? A hunk of metal flying at a velocity of several thousand feet per second.

What is shrapnel? A hunk of metal flying at a velocity of several thousand feet per second.

It's harder to standardize shrapnel ratings because they are a lot more irregular than bullets, but yes, armor helps in many cases.
>>
>>33506435

Yes, but that's not what it's optimized for. If you compare a military OTV with a NIJ-rated civvie clone you'll see that the military vest is a bit thicker overall to better to deal with shrapnel yet is only rated to stop high-velocity 9mm while the civvie OTV is rated to stop .44 mag.
>>
>>33506458
Shrapnel is often much lighter than a bullet, making it easier to stop due to less inertia. Shrapnel is also not gyroscopically stabilized so it easier to turn or deflect. Armor usually performs better against shrapnel than it does against a bullet striking square to the body.
>>
>>33506486
I was explaining it in the simpliest way possible, but as the final sentence said:

>It's harder to standardize shrapnel ratings because they are a lot more irregular than bullets, but yes, armor helps in many cases.
>>

>Are the Type 56 chest rigs on Amazon quality, or are they shit knock-offs?

FAST pack guy here. If you want both back and bottom compression straps at around 20L the Litespeed is probably the best way to go. Mystery Ranch doesn't really add bottom compression straps till you hit the 30L+ range. I don't really care for them on a smaller pack, but hey, you do you. A little more info- TAD packs ride high on your back, high enough that you probably don't need to use a waist strap unless you let the thing dangle halfway down your back. The Litespeed doesn't have side bottle pockets, but there's more than enough MOLLE to add a Goruck/MR bottle pocket/MSM bottle corset.
>>

>>
>>33510155
Goosenecks are an awkward workaround to not having a flattop. They work, but there is literally no practical reason to choose them over a flat top.
>>
>>33510217

>>
>>33510240

You probably saw the IDF using M4s with A2 uppers which they need to be modified with a gooseneck to accommodate modern holographic optics.
>>
>>33510240
>Valid
It's valid for the IDF, who already have a fuckload of fixed carry handle rifles in the inventory. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to issue a gooseneck than it is to replace thousands of rifle uppers. Same deal with 1990s-early 2000s US military using M16A2s. It is valid because they don't have flattops to go around.

The logic for an organization with existing large amounts of old inventory and an individual buying their own gear from the ground up is different.
>>
>>33510686
>A2 uppers

The IDF cut down (20 inch) 603 uppers of semi-fame aren't really that common. It was a relative lot of smithing to make that happen.

Much more commonly the IDF have a ton of different short model fixed carry handle Colt Carbines. Colt 653 and assorted similar offshoots.

They even supposedly have some of the early run, non-nomenclature differentiated M4s with fixed carry handles.

5.11 is definitely better than Condor, but it has the problem that it is market to the "Nut'N'Fancy crowd", as it were. You get a lot of tacticool features, but the pricepoint that it's at means they have to skimp on the some of the basics of constructing solid gear.

Their pants are decent for the price, but most everything else they offer is either sub-par alternatives to USGI type stuff, or it is a tacticool mess like their sling bags.

Anon's a while ago saying Truspec is alright. Not great for the price (Just go USGI Surp) but it's still decent and will work.
>>
>>33511574
Truspec is pretty shit in my experience.

I wore 5.11 pants for security work in business casual dress sometimes and they were decent beaters. They were priced where I didn't care too much if they got stained up. They definitely give off a tacticool vibe though. I've noticed a lot of "I OWN A GUN" guys who dress with 5.11s, rigger belts, and ballcaps seem to enjoy the look when walking around town despite not really getting any use out of the pockets and elastics on 5.11s. This has given me a distaste for seeing the brand worn in any kind of social setting unless somebody is actually on the clock doing tactical work. They make decent innawoods pants and in that setting aren't terribly tryhard.

Seriously though, skip their fucking meme bags.
>>
>>33511623
Add: To be honest, at the end of the day, pants is pants.

I did as much security work in jeans or Wal-Mart khakis as I did in 5.11s and I never felt disadvantaged. People overthink this gear stuff sometimes.

LAPG Pants are the best of the best. They're cheap at 23 bones, light, and durable. I've had a pair for 4 years and they're still going strong. I've poured bleach on them, welded while wearing them, etc and they still look great with almost no fading (only around the buttons). Comfiest pants that I own.

This anon's correct, but you could try. Most police scanner's are kinda ded now if anything they're all online from someone with a sniffer.

If they're still radio then yes in most cases you could listen to police channels, but welcome to the 90's.

Most plate carriers will work if not all, but getting a female specific (quadruple curved iirc, if not just try searching female ballistic plates or something) plate makes the difference since all a plate carrier is is nylon fabirc it bends to whatever shape the plate is.

That's basically been my experience for the jacket, the pants on the other hand are fucking godly

I use the pants every now and then and they're similar enough to pants I already wear for heat that it doesn't bother me, but when it gets cold or windy I can feel the heat difference between my legs and my arms

I sent you an email with a link to the 2gun, if you can make it just meet up with us but if not it's no worries, it's not like a planned event, we all just happen to be going since they only host it once a month
>>
>>33516878
Good job replying to yourself. You're not adding new content, you're posting other people's lightbox images with the only context being "I like this type of plate carrier" without any text outside of the first post. You're just dumping shitty carriers.

>>33516882
Who'd have guessed?

>>33516889
It seems pretty cheap so I'll probably go.

I'm not so sure about the pants on this one mostly because they're held up by suspenders and have no belt loops which isn't my favorite warm weather solution if I'm honest. Works well for cold, but I prefer not to have wet cloth strips all over my back and chest when wearing clothing.
>>
>>33516901
i'll will dump these same image plus more every single day just to bother you.
>>
>>33516901
You actually use the straps? I've had 0 issue with my KSOR or VKBO wearing them with just a basic bitch web belt to keep them up. Still need to get Ratnik belt

If you do go I'd suggest planning an extra 30 bucks to hit the galleries too, 2gun lasts a decent while but it's still only 5 stages, so getting in some extra time before and after to shoot steel or sight shit in is a good idea. I know I'm gonna be there early since I'm gonna have to zero a new Aimpoint
>>
>>33516901
>have no belt loops

>>
>>33516915
>I'm going out of my way to annoy people!

>>33516922
Like I said, there are no belt loops so you have to use them unless you want to rely on either a belt with no attachment or the shitty shoestring waist.
>>
>>33516939

>>
>>33516939
k
>>
>>33516948
It doesn't match EMR 1 or 2, nor is it supposed to. It is EMR-3 (if memory serves me right) and is designed in "autumn" and "spring" patterns. Autumn is a gray-blue with golden-brown fields with olive drab and lime green specs whereas the spring side is yellow with mold green fields and black specs. It's really fucking bizarre.

Look at my photo >>33505805 again and you'll see both the inside and outside pattern. They don't match regular digiflora but they mesh alright.
>>
>>33516963
That actually increases my interest in it a lot, I thought the inside was just a lighter digiflora, since in my experience everyone seems to have a similar color palette yet it's all distinctive

It's a shame there isn't more of the variants floating around, cause they're all /fa/ as fuck

Would I be correct in thinking that getting vinyl blood type and allergy patches would be safer than embroidered ones, since vinyl would be a lot less likely to be obscured by dirt or whatever?

For all the chest rig guys that weren't too poor, why chest rig > plate carrier? Just curious.
>>
>>33520329
Not speaking for the group, just myself, but larping mostly. I don't honestly think I'll ever need it, but eat shit it's America and I can buy what I want.

It adds another challenge level to training, moving and shooting is a great challenge, doing so with armor on is harder. Then if some kind of nutnfancy wet dream actually occurs I'll have it.
>>
Is it possible to get a PC in the classic woodland? Or should I just stick with a basic OD?
>>
>>33520329
Just movement/comfort. Kinda what the other anon said. Its just for larping, when doing combat related stuff I had plates, but I dont need plates now, so why have a plate carrier? Nothing wrong with having either, just the benefits of a chest rig outweigh the benefits of a plate carrier in my specific situation.

I like my HK handguns a whole lot but if Its a backup pistol in a serious situation (as serious as shooting cardboard can be) I agree with Buck Angel that it should operate like a magazine fed revolver. If I am carrying concealed and want something with a little more punch than my daily G43 I will swap over to the USP9c with 2 spare mags in a blueforce gear belt pouch.

Plus who can argue with 19+1?

Goruck or LBT (I forget model name but its smaller than 3day) since its really just "replenishment" and auxiliary gear holding for me.

3 day packs strike me as a meme
>3 days worth of survival gear/food/water
>3 days worth of combatives
Its not like you are getting resupply so good luck fitting both of those in there. Most of the time for me they sit in the truck or at the range line.
>>
>>33522991
From what I've seen most 3 day packs are big enough to be a serious assault pack but not actually pack enough stuff for 3 days if you carry more than JUST food, water and some basic shit.

"3-day packs" are a good size, though. For sure go to size other than ruck for carrying anything serious.

Next edition should be work out plans/firearm drills or something
Not sure what there is to talk about besides that at the moment, maybe mag pouches?
>>
>>33524235
Instead of GOTM?
I'm down with that.

Mag pouches kinda boring, though since you have three types really.
Eagle USGI style flapped ones, taco style, and kydex KYWI style.

Asked this earlier but anyone actually do the GT suggested drills? I know Blu posted his surprise reaction time one or whatever it was called.

Find some military guys who carry stuff like SAWs, 40mm, explosive charges, etc and see how they set things up and what sort of way their gear is organized. I'm sure plenty a military grenadier would like a guide on his 40mm loadout options.

DIY camo. Stuff from netted helmets, to leaf suits, to camo lined ruck covers, to crawling undersuits and full ghilles. A wide range of different needs and tradeoffs for camo vs. streamline.

Also "bleeding edge" competition gear and if it is viable tactically or not. That shit is always evolving.
>>
>>33524315
Koko posted his 40mm setup but I won't repost it if he posts it here then it's all good. Not sure how much he wants it spread around or not.
>>
>>33524315
Eh, in all the jobs my gear was set up nearly the same, but i think the DIY stuff is a really good idea. I think GOTM is good, but would probably be better if we don't over do it. Gear reviews/DIY/Drills/Etc, gear related talk/tips could be viable replacements when the memes run dry
>>
>>33524344
>Eh, in all the jobs my gear was set up nearly the same

If this board can have heated 50+ post arguments about the merits of dump pouches, I think there is something to be mined from SAW/40mm/drop charge loadout discussions.
>>
>>33524392
Possibly, but SAW/40mm is such a specific gear set it's not really applicable since a saw in civvie application is just a much heavier belt fed AR. Doesn't have the same advantage and application than in military use. Same with 40mm except that there are maybe even 1000 people or less who own legal 40mm launchers as a civvie.

>>
>>33524442
I meant for that kind of review stuff to be geared to military gearfags. There are plenty of civilian tacticool reviews, written and YouTube, but there really isn't much for gearfag soldiers in media. It's a surprisingly untapped niche; the civilian reviewers always focus on civilian shooters and setups.

Not that /gq/ articles should be always be military relevant only, but tossing that in would mix things up.

Hows my gear, queers? This is what i wear for work. Im allowed to deviate, but i need to keep it professional, what should i wear?

Right now ive got on:
>Warrior Assualt Systems covert plate carrier (which looks autistic under a shirt, btw)
>blackhawk pants
>a polo and a long sleeve
>some cheap walmart boots
>regularly have everything up to a taser, so spaceis limited, and extra space to put stuff is always accepted

So, what should it be? I need something good, reliable, good QC and customer support, as well as proffesional looking. The goal is to ACTUALLY look like a police officer. What should i get?

>my PRIVATE company doesnt buy uur gear. We have too. But our whole goal is a look-a-like police officer
>actually, we're a private investigative firm, and work VERY closely with the local PD and sherrifs office
Any suggestions?

Not a Condor belt, that's for sure.

Some solid EDC rated leather belt or ideally a riggers belt but then you look more like a mall ninja not LEO or whatever you are.

It seems like most of your stuff will be belt line, taser, hand cuffs, mags and whatnot and plate carrier is just for armor and that radio which not ideally but could be belt mounted if need be.

Either way, get a solid belt.
