A place to share books, stories, and assorted writefaggotry.

All writing is welcome, even if it's only tangentially related to /k/.

Give thanks to Polybus and Archivefag for keeping /wfg/ afloat.
It's been unscientifically proven that a lack of (you)s for writers can lead depression, alcoholism, story abandonment, and an hero.

But it's so easy to make a difference in a writer's life. Just one (you) a day can make the difference between a happy writer and a writer on permanent hiatus.

Please, post now. Help make a writer's day.

Wow, so much tie in to other stories. I really like that, personally. I'm guessing that the aliens don't have weapon spirits, but do the human space guns have space geists? And do human rifle offspring ever come out as rifles?

>>33167833
That was quite the story. Very long. I recommend next time posting a pastebin link and maybe a bit of the story to act as a hook. It was entertaining, and I enjoyed the atmosphere you put out. I don't think the air could have lasted as long as it did in your story, though. If I remember correctly, the American GUPPY subs had to surface after a few days at most. Other than that, I enjoyed reading it.

>>33169412
That's pretty good so far. I'm enjoying it. Seems Daniel's about to get into some spooky Nazis. Can't wait to read the next part.

>"Well, the planet that talks to us across the universe is notable just about always and scientists follow with great interest. We have something similar to your internet. We call it planet band and this is a commonly asked question. But how old are you?"
"Twenty-seven."
>"Twenty seven. Just the right age." Pitra remarked almost to herself in a floating lilt. "We're here." She amended as the truck came to a stop outside the hut.
"Just the right age for WHAT?" Jack answered in an almost accusing tone.
>"Well, I'll give you some time to get comfortable with the idea. But when that time's over, you won't be able to stop me."
>Jack looked over to Pitra as he exited the vehicle and stared in shock as he realized what she was on about.
"Well I'm glad you're so fond of me, then."

four hours later.
>Pitra woke to an empty bed, where she knew she previously held Jack, his lower core temperature cooling her, feeding into what she felt to be a balance of heat between a creature sensitive to the cold and attracted to the heat of her body, and herself, at home in the heat, but unable to resist the sensation of something, like jack, warm but cool to the touch.
>She rose and threw on a shirt and fatigues, quickly searching the hut for him, finding that he was nowhere in sight.
>She exited her hut to find the area around her was quiet. "Has he run away? Why would he? Is he really that opposed to what I had in mind for him? Did. Did he wander off in his sleep?"
>Pitra stared off into the distance, the silver tones of the planet's two moons, which happened to be full tonight illuminating no tracks, no trampled foliage. Wherever Jack had gone, he didn't leave any tracks. He left like a ghost chasing a shadow.

>"Fuuuuuuck. So there's an alien on the loose in a rural community. I hope whoever sees him first takes sleep medication and is running in the middle of nowhere." Pitra remarked to herself in Acrani. A young girl ran over a ridge and into her view, likely a child on one of the nearby farms.
>"HELP! You're military aren't you?!" The girl asked acrani
>"Yes, I'm military... Have you by any chance seen an alien? Looks like one of us but with smaller eyes, white skin and bigger than most men?"
>"THE SAME! COME ON, THIS WAY!" The girl exclaimed before beginning a sprint back to her farm with Pitra in tow.
>two kilometers of running later they reached the perimeter of the farm, running across half the northern third of the property before coming to a stop.
>"We last saw it that way, it was screaming at its reflection in the pond." the little girl said, pointing into the horizon "I don't want to go back to it, what do we do?"
>"Go inside, stay there. If it's the one I think it is, it'll be fine, just stay calm and go inside. I'll come tell you if I can solve it." Pitra instructed, then started off in the direct the girl pointed.
>Pitra could hear the screams. She was certain it was Jack, his screams of denigration and ire piercing the landscape. There was no certainty to who the screams were directed at, but they were filled with rage and venom.
>As she came close, five hundred yards, the screams vaguely took shape. Three hundred.
"USELESS... VERMIN... UNWORTHY... PARASITE!" Came the words, punctuated by seconds, and audible only between Pitra's breaths.
>Pitra came a hundred yards out to see a woman crouched behind a tree fifty yards from the pond where she could clearly see Jack scathing at his own reflection in the water, striking out at it.
>Pitra approached the woman, and crouched with her. "How long has he been doing this?" She asked in hushed Acrani.
>"About an Hour and a half." came the reply.
"He's not okay."

Oh no, we're getting a full-bore, 80cm, rail-car-transported supergun. It weighed a whopping 1350 tonnes, and fired a seven tonne shell almost 30 miles. The barrel alone was over 100 feet long. It took almost 2500 men to make sure the gun had the logistical base necessary to fight.

"I can't really answer that. He's a bit of a guest. You should run back to the house, let me take care of him."
>"Oh. Okay. Thanks." The woman said before beginning a jog back to her hut.
>Pitra waited as she watched the woman disappear from sight. fixing her red eyes on the screaming man.
"FUUUCK YOOUU PARASITE!!!" Jack finished, pointing down into the water before walking out of the pond before collapsing on the ground nearby.
>Pitra rushed over and rolled him onto his back. eyelids lifted to reveal a darkened set of Green eyes, unresponsively scanning the area, only occasionally collimated on one item or another in the sky.
>slowly, Pitra moved him further away from the water and propped him against a plant that could roughly be described as a tree.
>Looking over his body, he seemed to have no harm, save for the obvious scarring that occurred during the orbital drop, patched up during his four weeks in a coma in the hospital. The only OBVIOUS change in his physical condition was the suddenly changed pigmentation of his eyes, previously the powdery blue that had befallen all who entered the nano suit, now a bright green.
>"Jack, can you hear me?" she asked him, hoping to pierce through the disorienting haze that had descended into Jack's mind.
>Slowly, Jack's eyes collimated and focused on her, their new green tint giving a soft glow in the silver tones of the moonlight.
"Pitra? Where am I?"
>"You don't remember?"
"No. Last thing I remember was going inside the hut."
>"You were screaming at the reflections in the pond."
"That's... painfully familiar. My first time out of the suit they didn't quite cut the link all the way. so I started wandering and screaming every time i saw my reflection for a few hours. I suppose the good news is that's the last of it. What have they done to me?"

"I can walk. I just need a minute."

For decades because of this, many considered ayy lmao's to be non-existent and anyone who reported sightings of them to be mentally defective."
>"What's causing this? Such odd behavior for what seems to be your temperament."
"The wandering was what is usually the last stages of separation syndrome. Typically they'd keep us in cells for five days after skinning while we got the mental apparitions to die down, and that was WITH the proper equipment and cutting the neural link during the skinning process."
>"Always with the suit, does anything ELSE ever make the source of your woes?"
"Lack of self worth amplified by the suit targeting it in an effort to discourage self skinning and body snatching?" Jack answered, only half sarcastically.
>"The suit can't talk! The suit doesn't have a mind!"
"Well, You'd think that'd be true when you're wearing a super computer so powerful it hacks alien computers, but..."
>"My woes are caused by high risk operations behind Icrah territory, thinking each one might be my last and I'll never have anyone shed a tear for my passing, and here you are, complaining your armor is talking to you."
"Yep. And you know what the kicker is?"
>"Shoot."
"You'll never have armor that talks to you."
>"Right where it hurts. Oh well. I have a pet alien."

I'm not really preoccupied with the sweet lovings. I'm more concerned with whether I'm enjoying the story. And I am enjoying this one, very much. Really like the concept of the nano suits and the psychology of their wearers. Or does the suit wear the person?

November 30th, 1939. Leningrad, Soviet Union.

Vasili and the 44th had been deployed to aid in the defense of Leningrad and repel all enemy forces at the border. The Commissar was on his megaphone yelling the usual propaganda to the soldiers. Looking around, he could easily see the others eating up what the man was spewing, even some of the young officers straight out of the academy. One of the more weathered and hardier of the officers just shook out his match after lightning his hand-rolled cigar and walked out.

'Must be nice to have the option of personal time.' Vasili thought. From what the Commissar was saying, he could tell that war had been declared. Who the declarer is, they didnt say conveniently. All they told the men was that thier homeland demands noble protectors and that those of the 44th Rifle Company are among the first to be chosen to give thier lives in duty to the motherland.

"Soldiers of the Great Soviet Union! Heed my words as you prime your weapons of war, you are the first line of defense for your home. Only you can protect us from the madmen of the Finnish Army! Your names will forever be etched on the stones..." As the Commissar kept yelling, Vasili eventually tuned him out to think of Mila slung over his shoulder, the only companion for the past weeks of training he'd endured. His grip of the stock tightened and his fingers wrapped around the steel buttplate.

"Nervous?" A deep female voice in the back of his head asked. He gave a simple nod as it was the best response he could muster as he coudn't really just speak to nobody in particular in the spam-can of soldiers the room he was in became. "I would let you lay in my lap again to reassure you but seeing as it is quite crowded..." Vasili sighed briefly and tapped on her stock twice. "Dont push it, Idiot." Mila warned. A small chuckle escaped him.
>>
>>33191898
Soon, the soldiers were being herded out of the room and down the snow filled street to the train station to take them to the nearest Soviet outpost. As the fresh snow crunched under thier boots, Vasili kept getting this sinking feeling like he was carrying lead bricks in his pouches and stomach. He had joined the army to escape farming potatoes for use in vodka but considering he was actually going to war and may lose his life to a man in the snowy woods, he'd prefer picking spuds in the frozen wastes with no gloves than to go into direct combat. "Hey...Vasili." a voice quietly addressed him to the right. Looking over to see Viktor sporting a confident smile, his morale rose a bit wiith the question of how this man could possibly be happy about going into an actual full-scale war.

"Yes, Viktor?" he asked with a shaky voice.

"Does this not excite you? We are going out to defend our country from whatever evil lies beyond our borders. We will come back as heroes I tell you." He exclaimed as loud as his quiet tone would allow.

Looking much more skeptical, Vasili could only inform him of the unfortunate. "Viktor, not all of us are coming home. I hope you know that."

"Oh come now, have faith in the good training the officers gave us! We didn't go to Siberia for nothing."

"They showed us how to run in the snow and lie down in the snow. Oh! they also taught us how to put up tent in snow, I feel so much better about not knowing how to spot enemy or shoot in snow with these thick gloves." He responded with sarcasm sprinkled about.

"Oh come now, instructor showed us how to shoot in first training. If you can shoot straight then you can shoot anywhere. You will live, I promise you." His wide smile didn't do much to assure the young private but it was a start.
>>
>>33192002
The station filled up quickly as the soldiers started piling in, waiting for the train to arrive. Officers chatting amongst themselves as the general population did the same. With the station now completely full and the rest of the company waiting outside as everyone was already elbow to elbow, Vasili could only smell vodka, tobacco and sweat from the others just as nervous as he was. Not even the kind, caring rifle on his shoulder whispering and reassuring him that everything will work out could not keep him from falling deeper and deeper into his own despair. He could hear voices all around, some shaken, some stone cold, one in particular seemed quite cheerful and happy to be here.

'I don't want to be here, oh god help me. Get me out of here. Id give anything to be away from all this.' He thought as his limbs became heavier and his boots were seemingly bolted to the ground on which he stood. His thoughts swirled around his head faster than an angry whirlpool.

"Vasili..." a voice called, he pushed it aside as he stared into the void of his anguish.

'Dear Lord, if you're listening...'

"Vasili!" they called again.

'Is someone calling me? Who the hell is calling to me?' He asked himself as he looked up from the abyss to notice the last few soldiers were boarding the train. Viktor called to him from the crowd.

"Vasili! Get in here befor-"

"EGOROV! GET ON THE TRAIN, NOW!" An officer called to him from beside Viktor.

Lurching forward as his limbs retained that weight from his standing there, he picked up speed as the officer called again in their harsh tone. Stepping onto the train, he could feel their gazes pierce him as he'd caught some shit from the Lieutenant for holding up the departure. The brakes releasing sent a shudder through the cars and the men aboard. Within minutes, the train was screaming down the tracks toward the border and soon, the battlefield.
>>
>>33192028
Arriving at the outpost a half mile from the border, the fresh soldiers were greeted with the sight of a new yet well worn concrete wall lined with impacts from various munitions and some pieces just completely missing. A few ranking soldiers stood at the platform waiting to greet the new Officers that would be leading the charge as the last one had headed for Viipuri with a sizable force intended on setting up a perimeter around the city for a later siege. Few returned as the only ones to come back were those that had not been wounded and were promptly reassigned to other squads to fill gaps along with those with light wounds like a shot to the leg or arm. The heavily wounded were presumed dead and or wouldn't make the trip back and left for the scavengers.

Gripping Mila tight enough to make the knuckles go white, he stepped off the train with the other first few by the train car doors. Massing up by the gate, the soldiers were addressed by the officers after being given a short briefing about the current situation. An officer spoke up after a couple minutes and welcomed them to the camp he'd just been sent to with them. Giving the soldiers a rough estimate of about 1,200 lost so far, resources and reinforcements were on the way as the T-26's were on the way with more munitions for the Maxim guns and their rifles. Finishing his speech with the usual 'keep your chin up' shit, the officer let the men know that they'd better get a good nights rest as they'd be moving out to press into the city at sunrise.

"Vasili...you're shaking. Please calm yourself, I am here for you." Mila whispered to him. His nervousness only amplified her own as her tone was clearly forced to be calm. "When the time comes, I will not fail you. Have faith in me." He simply brought his hand over to his shoulder to grab her and bring her closer. With a quick peck on the handguards, he set off into the camp.

Writing question

If you have an endpoint, and a "you are HERE" in your story, how do you get from where you are to where you want to be?

And why is it so difficult to do, even when I already posted the endpoint in here?
>>
>>33194344
wait, what do you mean? Like, you have a goal in your story, and wondering how to get there?
>>
>>33194381
Yeah.

I posted the endpoint (or where I want to be before I quit the story) first. It was actually the first thing I posted. Now I'm somewhere in the middle of getting there.

Hell, I don't even know how I got THIS far. I didn't really have a plan to begin with, let alone a coherent story or plan/plot.

Hey, I'm by no means a regular in these threads; this is my first post in fact.

I am an allegedly professional author, and the only piece of advice I'd offer deals with voice.

My first editor relentlessly pounded this concept in to my brain - stay active.

Never say your subject was, 'X'.

Never say anything passively, that could be said directly. Don't beat around the bush. Just fucking say it.

Always be active; speak with absolute certainty.(except in character dialog or in scientific research papers that require concrete facts.

E.G. 'The sniper's bullet struck Tom in the chest while he was running between cover.' - crap

After two short steps, Tom's chest exploded - the nearby cover now impossibility distant.

But also knowing when to break these rules is equally important.

I write mostly coverage now, so I have to write in AP. It's great for getting as much info conveyed in as few words as possible.

But switching to passive voice can make the narrator seem nervous, anxious or unsure of themselves.

Especially when the rest of the narrative is active voice. This is a great tool for making your reader feel uneasy, or emphasize a schizophrenic nature of the narrator.
>>
>>33194959
I was dropped as a child, what is the difference between passive and active?
>>
>>33194473
I have written two pieces I *might* use as alternative endings to a story so I know what you are talking about, I have also decided that most of my stories exist in the same universe because reasons, I suggest writing short stories with similar characters to the ones from the story you are having trouble with & seeing if you could insert some of the shorts into that story, even if you decide not to, writing short stories could give you ideas for the story.
>>
Okay, so here's the situation. I've recently discovered cowboy bebop and it's actually bretty gud. That said, I'm also dealing with some bullshit for reasons because something came up a couple days ago. so... I'm thinking of making that return to Michael and Ekatarina I promised, but I need a title, I roughly have the beginning of the story sketched out into a few tableau in my mind, but I don't have a title. I was thinking something along the lines of "Silent But Violent," or "Midland." I don't know, but the concept of it is pretty well defined for a decent stretch into the story.

>>

I'm going to assume you want to have the title be referencing the actions, but in a -tongue-in-cheek way.

Find someone that has enough interest to give it thought, won't blow the story to us, and is witty. Ask them to mull the title over once they know the major concepts. Use what they come up with and see if it fits your style.

Then, post that shit, nigga.

That's more clever graphics than actually being a cutaway gun; kind of like an illustration in a book.
The closest thing you could to shooting a "cutaway" gun would probably be a skeletonized AR, as I don't think cutaways are functional.

well the most recent back up of the stories im keeping is on the 2 MB range wich means there is 2097152 characters and JT has commented that the storie is on the 125k words range and JT is still working on it, then there is the stories Archive is keeping on, the ones some authors are keeping tab on, so i wouldnt be surprised if its over 1M

According to Google, the average word length in English is 5.1 characters. So that would put the word count at 411,206 on the stories you're keeping track of, not counting punctuation or spaces. That seems a little low to me. If I get a few hours of free time this week, I might count up the stories words. It'll probably be the productive thing I do this week.

Brought to you by keeping my hospitalized grandmother's dog company and someone telling me "One doesn't blue an MP-5", here's more of The Night Reich.

Chapter 4:Human/Acra relations.
>The relationship between Human and Acra had always been an amicable one. Given that the two races had started their relationship, in more than one way, as a friendly phone call to someone down the street. It always had promise to grow friendlier as the two managed to meet, but to say that they would soon be sharing beds and snuggling with each other would have been ridiculous, and still was for all but Jack, who had so far been the only human to MEET the Acra. The fact that they'd treated him more or less as a guest and saw to it that he'd been taken care of was encouraging. Less so the fact that they'd kept referring to him as a "pet."
>Jack awoke to a head slipping onto his arm, his eyes opening and collimating on a pair of red irises and a warm smile greeting him. He couldn't help but smile contentedly as he realized his new reality. There'd almost certainly be some catch somewhere, and maybe he'd be the key that unlocked diplomacy between the worlds. If the rest of them were as similar and welcoming as he'd seen so far, it might be that in ten or twenty years time they'd be allies or better.
>As he felt Pitra snuggle up closer to him,he thought to the future. Would he become embedded in Acra military? would he ever go home? Did any of that even matter? Did he really care?
>"Lost in thought there, Jack?"
"Yeah. Considering my priorities."
>"Oh? What's on your mind?"
"Just the little questions. Will I ever go home? Do I care? How long until I outstay my welcome? Will I care? Will I stay that long?"
>"You wouldn't leave. Go back to what? The suit? You're a prisoner, a peon, just like me. Do you really think anything GOOD would await you? Tell me. Had I not been along, would they have even came to retrieve your body?"
"No. Nano soldiers are penal. Disposable assets."

For me personally, doing this can be a little bit difficult to define, and every story is different. I seem to come at every one of my stories with a different plan of how to reach said endpoint, and so I usually end up taking a lot of different paths to reach it.

That being said, I think you may discover this if you approach writing similarly to the way I do it, and that is, have your defined endpoint, know what it is. And simply write until you know in the back of your head that it's time to finish. I think if you just let yourself continue to run with it, eventually you'll hit that point where you sit down one day and say: "This is the last time I sit down and write in this story. And once I'm finished, it's time to begin something else." And it'll feel like the right time. Sometimes it may surprise you to find when that time is, I've had stories that I was finished what I wanted to accomplish in 118 pages, and I've got another story at 150 where I still feel like I may have 2x-3x that to finish that story, and then fill at minimum another and perhaps a third "book" to follow. However, if you approach your writing differently, this probably won't mean much to you, this is only a suggestion.

"I was going to be a philosopher." Parker says, looking at Adahy from his bunk in the dark-shrouded, dusty room. A small book rests in Parker's hand, a small, dented signal lamp sits on the ground beside Parker's bed, thus giving him the ability to read. The Cherokee man, aged to a ripe forty-three, nods and grunts in a form of agreement. "My favorite subject was normative theories of ethics, what determines morality." Parker smiles, thinking about those late nights he would spend reading about Kant and Freud.

"I've never had to think about morality much." The Indian says, turning from the poster over a sleeping man's bed, a loose tack now fixed thanks to Adahy, "I leave that sort of thinking to younger folk." He says, now on his bunk. There was something about the rhythm in the Indian's voice that makes him so interesting to listen to. "It's very interesting, Chief, I'd suggest you look into it." Parker says, a smile brimming wide across his face. "There are several theories that I'm very interested in, such as Moral Subjectivity; it states that morality- what's good and bad- is determined based on what an individual thinks or feels." The boy, aged twenty-two, says with a happy tone, to which Adahy gives him a friendly smile and waves off the theory.

"My family had a name for that, we called it an 'opinion'." The Indian laughs, his voice dry and sturdy. Parker chuckles, less-enthused by the joke since he holds philosophy more closely to his heart than the Indian does. "Well, there's one theory that I try to live by, Utilitarianism; it states that what is good or bad is defined by a cost-benefit ratio. If the costs outweigh the benefits, it's morally wrong, if the benefits outweigh the costs, it's morally right." The boy states, now regaining some lost enthusiasm from Adahy's joke.

Adahy smiles at Parker with friendly eyes, a low hum comes from him as he hesitates for a couple of seconds. "I didn't have much teaching when I was younger, so I don't have much to say about it. But when my great grandfather was young and still with his tribe, the village fool grew hateful of the powow players for he couldn't play the drums like the players could. So one night, in a fit of rage, the fool killed every single powow player in the village. When asked what was his reasoning for doing something so vile, my grandfather told me he said, 'I can not play like them.', he was exiled and died in the wilderness." Adahy takes a long pause, his smile had transitioned into a straight line during his tale, making him look stout and determined while telling the story.

"And?" Parker asks, eyebrows raised in expectation of a lesson. Adahy looks up at Parker and chuckles, "My dear boy, that's all there is to it." The Indian says, taking off his shoes, "But I figure, if you want something out of the story, that if you're going to do something wrong, don't do it over a damned drum." Adahy says, wise smile returning to his face and legs swinging up onto the bed. "Now it is time for me to rest, I suggest the same for you." The Indian says, rolling over to face away from the signal lamp. "Goodnight, Parker." Adahy says, clearing his throat and growing quiet.

"Goodnight, Chief." The kid says, hesitating for half a minute until closing the small book and turning the signal lamp off.

The dull whirring of the thirteen-hundred horsepower engine keeps Parker focused on staying in formation, the mechanical sound constantly reminding him that he is a part of his machine, a part of a squadron. The story that Adahy told him the previous night resonates through the back of his head, "Make sure it's not a drum." He tells himself in his head, automatically contrasting the simple lesson with more advanced theories that he learned so long ago. A thought suddenly hits Parker, the thought to develop his own theory. Yeah, that sounds good, he'll share credit with Adahy when they both get out and will become renowned philosophers. Parker smiles, Adahy will certainly love the plan that he's come up with.

"We have glints at twelve-o'-clock!" The leader of the lead squad of twelve P-40F Warhawks says through the comms, causing Parker to look at the clock in his cockpit. "Seventeen-forty-five." he says quietly, reminding himself of how much fuel he has left, more than enough for an engagement. "Roger that, Red Leader!" One of the Brits who fly at fifteen-thousand feet chirps, the leader of the 66th FS flight begins a large right turn, causing the P-40s to loops slowly around, coming in behind the sixty-five low-flying Ju-52 transports in a little over a minute.

"On your right, Freud." Parker's wingman, Ricky, says as they split form the main flight into their pairing. Parker's breath quickens a little as the large tri-engine transports become bigger and bigger in his reflector sight. Finally, the entire bomber fills the sight, by now two other Junkers have been hit, but now it's Parker's turn to earn a kill. The kid lets loose with the fifties, bright flashes erupt from the transports, causing large chunks of metal to break away from the plane and slam against the water. Parker pulls up and rolls, looking down at the damaged aircraft and watching the right horizontal stabilizer shake violently before suddenly flipping upwards and making the large plane roll right and disappear into a large white plume that rolls forward in place of the Junkers.

Parker looks forward again just in time to roll left, propeller missing the tail of a frantic Bf-110 by only a couple of feet, and as he looks back Parker spots a furious Spitfire pursuing the Messerschmitt. Parker rolls inverted and pulls into a dive, rolling back upright once he's finally facing down, going back in after the Junkers. Parker sights in on another one, the '52 next to it is engulfed in flames as a fellow P-40 pairing pulls away from the downed target. The kid lights up the transport, dark smoke pluming from the left-most engine, causing Parker to push the nose down so he doesn't collide with the plane. As the P-40 shifts down and to the right of the Ju-52, Parker jumps as he hears pops coming from the burning transport, causing him to look and see what is going on. The Krauts were lined up by the windows, firing their guns from the busted-out windows in an attempt to ward off the P-40s.

Suddenly, several loud pings come from the nose of Parker's P-40, the air intake of the Kittyhawk had been blasted apart, leaving the top of the cowling smooth without the protruding intake. In its place, bare aluminum remains, the tan paint being shot off with the intake. Parker rolls right and applies elevator, doing a tight combat turn until he was lined up behind one of the three- now sparse- V-formations of Junkers transports. The P-40 now runs just forty feet above the water, closing the distance between itself and a thrid lumbering Junkers. Parker pulls up behind the third Junkers, fifties screaming in his ear as the report of the bullets on the Junkers are instantaneous, coming in the form of bright flashes and white and black coolant spilling from the engines.

Just as Parker is about to pull off of the certainly doomed Ju-52, several explosions erupt from his wingman's plane. A Bf-109G is the first thing that Parker sees as he swivels his head to his right wing to check on his wingman, smoke rolling from the cannon in the prop hub and engine cowling as it pulls up and away from Ricky's P-40F, smoke billowing out of the engine and flames soon erupting from the cockpit. Ricky is visibly screaming and pounding against the canopy that traps him in his fiery tomb, but his comms must have gotten blown out by the 109 for Parker can not hear his wingman's agonized screams. Flames soon begin to flow from the exhausts as the entire front of the aircraft catches fire, suddenly plunging down and succumbing the same fate of Parker's first Ju-52.

The kid, however, does not shed a tear for his fallen comrade, not now, not during such an intense fight. The P-40 zooms over the damage Ju-52, gaining some altitude before he does another combat turn back onto the six of the V-formation. By now, land is quickly approaching and the Ju-52s are starting to slow down, Parker realizes exactly what's happening in just a couple of seconds. "They're going to crash-land, hit them before they reach land!" The kid shouts, closing in behind yet another Ju-52. "Roger-Wilco!" Several of the other pilots reply.

As the Junkers begin to role over the beach, several of the remaining ones break the V-formation and crash-land on the yellow sands, most of them catch fire due to the rough conditions of their landings. Dozens of German soldiers spill out onto the beach, dragging wounded and dead comrades off of the landed transports. Parker zooms over the frantic Krauts and observes them in their panic, he silently debates something deep inside of himself before doing a combat turn and diving at the beach. Bullets slice through the groups of Germans, causing some to fall or tumble over, death crowding the beach as the yellow sands soon turn red. Parker is successful in launching a second pass, this time hitting some of the downed Ju-52s and setting untouched fuel tanks ablaze that were previously dormant in the crash. However, coming towards the end of the second pass, the fifties stop chattering, cuing Parker to notify his other flight mates that he's returning to base. His other squadmates let him know that they heard him and Parker turns towards home.

"Kills?" The correspondent asks, typing quickly on the typewriter. "Five Junkers fifty-twos in the air, four on the ground, probably fifty Germans." Parker says, clearing his throat as he finishes. "I'm sorry, fifty Germans? What do you mean by that?" The combat correspondent says, looking up from the typewriter. Parker clenches his pants leg, remorse stirring slightly inside him. "Well, some of the Ju-52s crashed on the beach, so I shot at the men as they got out." Parker says plainly, eyes tracing the table under his furrowed brows. "Why in the hell would you do that?" The correspondent asks him, pulling his arms away from the typewriter with a baffled look on his face.

"Utilitarianism." Parker responds, shoulders raising slightly in a half-hearted shrug. "I'm sorry, what?" The correspondent responds, eyes squinting in search of answers. "What is morally acceptable and unacceptable is determined through a cost-benefit ratio, if the benefits outweigh the costs it's acceptable, if the costs outweigh the benefits it's morally unacceptable." Parker says, hands finding one another in a clasp behind the kid's back. "If I let the Germans go, they would have killed more of us, so I shot them." He explains further, nodding when he's done to assure the correspondent and possibly himself that what he did was right.

"Son, that's called reasoning, not Utalitaria-whatever you call it. Pros and cons are weighed and if you have more pros then you do it." The correspondent says, shaking his head as his arms slowly return to the typewriter throughout his explanation. "Well, y-yes that is true, but what I'm talking about deals with morality- what's right and wrong." Parker says, one hand leaving his back and gesturing forward while the other hangs by his thigh. "But there's no reason for morality in combat son, nobody needs it. It just gives you one more thing to distract yourself with." The correspondent says, shaking his head with a rather agitated look now gracing his face as he returns to typing up the report.

Parker, now laying in his bed several hours later, stares at the ceiling with a melancholic look upon his face. "Good evening, Parker." Adahy says as he enters the quarters and makes his way to his bed. "I would have been in sooner but I was talking to the ground crew chief. I'm going to get him to paint an Indian chief on the nose of my Warhawk." The Indian says with a smile. "I heard that your squadron engaged a transport flight, yes?" Parker nods silently, clearing his throat once more. "What did you do?" Adahy asks, taking off his shoes as he sits with his legs over the side of his bed.

"I killed men." The kid says, clenching his teeth with stress. "Well, of course you did, it's war. How many did you shoot down?" The Indian questions further, leaning forward with curiousness. "Five, I shot down five." The kid replies, closing his eyes to try and relax. "Good on you, you're an ace!" Adahy says, swinging his feet up onto the bed. "Good on me for what, Adahy?" Parker questions, looking at the rugged Indian who returns the look with somewhat confusion.

"Good on me for killing men over a drum?"

The event retold in this story is the Palm Sunday Massacre, or the "Goose Shoot" of 22nd April, 1943. Three flights of P-40F Warhawks and a top-cover flight of Spitfires engaged 65 Ju-52 transports, an un-reported number of Bf-109/110s, an unreported number of Macchi C.202 fighters, and several Savoia bombers. In the end, 24 Ju-52s were shot down over sea, 35 crash-landed on the shore, 14 Bf-109s were shot down (Some could have been Macchi fighters, however.), and 2 Bf-110s were destroyed. On the contrary, six P-40s failed to return from the mission.

I tried my best to capture the events as best as I could, reading from a mission report that gives life to this story. Aside from the fictional characters, this is as close to the real thing as it can get, and I thank you anons greatly for reading.

Personally, I enjoy this one. It's got a unique twist to it, but at the same time isn't too far out there for what it is. Hell, play your cards right and they might extend your government an offer to take on the Berlin protocol and become declared part of the Human race. What would YOUR people say if they came in right now and saw us like we are?"
>"Basically an Acra male but huge with smaller eyes white skin and a bit more shy? They might accuse me of having exotic tastes for frail aliens, but the worst they might do would amount to... what's the word? Teasing? Is that the word?"
"So they wouldn't mind then, but they would joke about it?"
>"They don't mind if the alien is BASICALLY one of us."
"Who's the sick degenerate now?"
>"Ha, I suppose I can see that one. But tell me, what do you think of me?"
"In relation to the other Acra I've met? The humans?"
>"Tell me how you feel about me. If you keep being shy about it I'm gonna start breaking bones." Pitra demanded, all levity gone from her face, an intense focus beaming from her face.
>Jack saw the change in her, a bolt of fear went through him, there was a certain way of talking in complete sincerity while being disingenuous.
>Her comment about breaking bones wasn't it.
"Well, until the comment about breaking bones, I thought you were a very sweet and patient girl who had a very charming personality with a body and face to match. Now I'm starting to think all the above with just a hint of some psychotic possessiveness. To be honest, I'm getting the feeling that you're gonna be there any time I interact with any other Acra whether I know or want it or not." Jack answered dryly
>"Why would you WANT to talk to others, Am I not good enough for you!?" Pitra demanded, her chagrin evident.

"Not good enough? Don't make me laugh... or do, I could USE a laugh right about now." Jack answered, the smirk on his face testifying to his quelling of her sudden distress.
>"S-so you're NOT going to try to get away from me?"
"I can live with possessive. I can't function in your society on the other hand, because of the language barrier and all that. Though now that I think of it, since we're on the topic... it seems like you went to a lot of effort to arrange your custody of me. Would you be so kind as to answer this... HOW did it come about that YOU speak English?" Jack asked, realization of something that may or may not be cause for concern crossing his face
>"Well... Truthfully, It's been a popular hobby for years to talk to humans by FTL voice relay, though that required modulation still and only the English speaking countries could afford, from what general knowledge I picked up, to host these lines of communication. So, having talked to humans for a couple years as a hobby, I really wanted to meet one in person. It's been a bit of an obsession for me. Then one day on a planet I can't name with a task I can't specify, I'm waiting to go home until two cruisers are away from the planet's orbit. hours later I'm picking up a set of armor that looks like your muscles if they weren't covered with all that skin. Four weeks later I've got my personal miracle, my obsession realized if you will, and here we are three days later. But... That probably sounds creepy and pathetic to you." Pitra answered, ending the length of it with a morose face that told Jack she'd bared her soul and awaited his merciless appraisal.
>Some compassion finally flowed through Jack's mind, this was finally someone he could relate with.
"No. I don't think that's pathetic." He said reassuringly. "I think you're just like me. Come here."
>Jack pulled Pitra close and held her tight, Reassuring the woman of his affections.

A tank? Who the hell was using tanks on this planet? Leo hadn't seen an actual tank in years. In fact, the only one he'd ever seen had been during a parade of Special External Policy Enforcement troops. Tanks were a rare sight on the 28th Century battlefield, primarily because their sheer weight made them difficult to transport between orbit and the surface. Though no longer as vulnerable to missiles thanks to the utter dominance of active defense systems, they needed an enormous amount of armor in order to withstand railgun hits from even light IFVs. For most PMC and P-SEC outfits, units that primarily fought minor skirmishes with eachother over market share or killed uppity aliens on contract, heavy armor just wasn't seen as necessary. You could throw the same gun system on a medium airtruck, and while it might not have as much protection, it was a fraction of the cost and could be transported by a standard VTOL or dropship. Still, they were a show of force, and a status symbol for wealthier PMC outfits, especially those in the Conglomerate's inner circle.

Leo's musings were interrupted by something small and hard smacking him in the chest. He just managed to catch it as he heard Vetri speak up.

"Here, you'll need a cowbell."

Leo looked down at the object she had chucked at him in confusion. It was a small tan box with a neckstrap, and a large red button on one side covered by a clear plastic flip cap.

"What is this?" He asked, looking up.

"Encrypted IFF transmitter. We've got some drones and automated guns operating outside the wire. If you get captured or you think you're gonna die, press the kill switch on the side. It'll purge the device's memory so the enemy can't use it to trick our systems. Plus it activates a distress beacon." She explained.
>>
>>33214545
You dare make me blush?

Currently ongoing, just need to put aside the proper time to sit down and hammer out something decent.
>>
>>33214640
Leo stared at it in mild disgust before hanging it around his neck. IFF chips had been injected subcutaneously for over a century at least, with automatic kill switches tied to life signs. Hell, some homeowners' associations even had them injected into residents as part of the security system. This thing was incredibly primative in comparison.

"Do I get a rifle?" He asked, pretty sure of the answer.

"Don't push your luck." Vetri smirked at him jovially as she slapped the solenoid charging lever on her own.

They followed the Sha'dee male across the base, Leo hanging back and casually taking everything in. The aliens were industrious, he had to give them that. Already, combat engineers had set up polycrete 3D printers which were busy extruding simple buildings to replace the tents. Trucks and transport VTOLs were still rolling in, offloading massive rail artillery pieces and other machinery.

The aliens around him were of every species and description. Hulking, leathery Kodo with heavy rifles and wearing almost as much armor as a light exoskeleton. Birdlike Aikra, tall and twiggy with four arms and digitigrade legs. Pale-skinned, snake-eyed Doekas, a rare sight above ground. Even a few Teques, savage fur-covered Xenos almost never seen outside of terraforming colonies on the frontier.

There were even a couple species Leo couldn't name off the top of his head. They must have been brought from off-world by the rebels. Most surprising of all however was the number of Humans milling about with them. Leo knew there were Human collaborators among the rebel forces, but he had assumed they were few and far between.

The Sha'dee were the clear majority, naturally. The most numerous species in the Inner and Middle Rings, Sha'dee were said to be the first Xeno race Humanity had discovered, though it was equally possible they were simply preferred for their very humanoid appearance. The fact that the little bastards bred like rabbits certainly didn't hurt.
>>
>>33214645
They reached the edge of the encampment, with cleared tarmac giving way to rubble and the scattered carcasses of destroyed vehicles. Crews of combat engineers were working to remove the debris and reinforce the walls. As they reached a gate, Leo found himself face to face with a cluster of hibernating infantry drones. Like any Overlord driver worth his salt, Leo hated infantry drones like the plague. It was merely the modern manifestation of the age old conflict between Jock and Nerd. Leo and his compatriots considered themselves a cut above normal infantry, and took pride in aggression and willingness to defy death. The idea that some sweaty nerd in a safe, cozy control center with a joystick thought he could do their job was frankly insulting.

Fortunately for Leo's ilk, even 700 years after the technology had first emerged, drones still had their limitations. They were vulnerable to ECM, had a very limited range for real-time control in a battlefield environment, and lacked the instinct and rapid adaptability of organic troops. As a result, they were mostly used for security patrols and as a defensive unit rather than a replacement for organic infantry.

Four of the drones whirred, clicked and rose to their "feet" on spindly robotic legs as Leo and the aliens approached. They were bipedal and vaguely humanoid in shape, one arm equipped with a skeletal manipulating hand, and the other fitted with an 8mm railgun feeding from a belt canister on their backs. No attempt had been made to give them faces, they merely had a ball turret full of sensors where the head should be. Like the larger Overlord suit, they had shoulder-mounted munitions launchers, although only one and chambered for 25mm rockets rather than 40mm.

"This our escort?" Vetri yelled to the Human perched in the watchtower ahead of them.

"Yep. No complaining, it's all we can spare." The sentry informed her as he waved to someone Leo couldn't see to open the gate.
>>
>>33214648
The drones surrounded Leo and co. as they exited the compound, forming a diamond around them and scanning for threats. Leo eyed them suspiciously, now very much grateful for the IFF device hanging from his neck. All he needed now was some twitchy drone pilot mistaking him for... well, what he actually was.

Kess was on point, moving alertly at an even pace with the male and Leo following, and Vetri bringing up the rear. Kess had swapped out her carbine from the hospital for a 6.5mm DMR, a ChK Kinetics T609 with a shortened rail assembly and a heavily buffered stock. The full powered version with no recoil compensation would probably fracture her more fragile Sha'dee collarbone. Or whatever their equivalent was. He'd kinda pegged her as the sharpshooter of the group, quiet and patient as she was, and was happy to see he'd been right.

The sheer amount of destruction around them was shocking the further towards the front lines they got. Leo had seen plenty of buildings torn up, burned out or otherwise ravaged by conflict, but he had never seen so many outright destroyed before. They frequently found themselves having to scale tiny mountains of collapsed structures, or make long detours when the way forward was blocked.

The ground was stained with oil and blood, and the air was alive with choking dust. Fortunately he still had the filter mask Vetri had given him earlier in the day. Most of the bodies had been cleared away, but every now and then they came across evidence of death, be it a bloody helmet shredded by railgun fire or a ragged limb trapped under a slab of polycrete. Carrion birds hopped about in the wreckage, and circled overhead. The silence, broken only rarely by the sound of distant artillery, made the scene all the more unnerving. Leo kept his head on a swivel and his hand on the pistol, its weight on his belt providing some sense of comfort and security, even if a marginal one.
>>
>>33214655
"It's just up ahead. We left a couple of guys to guard it, everything should still be there." The unfamiliar corporal said quietly, nodding towards an alleyway between two partially destroyed tenements.

"Stay alert all the same. I'm getting a weird vibe from this place. It's too quiet." Vetri muttered back, scanning the shattered and empty windows around them with her carbine.

They entered the alley, the drones spreading out and scanning the buildings with their active sensor arrays while the Sha'dee did the same with the optical snoopers on their helmets. As they emerged, Leo got his first look at the tank.

It was parked halfway inside a pile of rubble, the outside scorched and blackened from molotovs or napalm grenades. The crew must have bailed out and ran after they were immobilized by falling rubble. Leo didn't blame them, he'd much rather run and face punishment for losing equipment than sit in the tank and wait for the Xenos to cut him out and do god-knew-what to him.

Something was wrong, though. Where were those men the corporal said he left to guard the area?

Kess was clearly thinking the same, motioning for them to stop at the entrance to the alley and peering about through her scope.

"Where are your boys, Corporal?" Vetri asked nervously.

"I-I don't know. They were here when I left half an hour ago." The male Xeno replied, looking far from calm himself.

"Alright, send in a drone. See if it's a trap." Vetri instructed.

"Aren't we inside the lines?" Leo asked quietly.

"Yeah, but that doesn't mean there aren't rangers or drones skulking around to pick off stragglers." She replied, not taking her eyes off their drone as it cautiously cantered into the square towards the tank.

All eyes were on the drone as it slowly scanned the area, its barely audible clicks and whirs deafening in the eerie silence. Suddenly, Leo heard a familiar sound above and behind them.
>>
>>33214659
"SIX OCLOCK!" He yelled instinctively, causing the others to turn just in time to see two Overlord suits come hurtling down from the rooftops, jump jets flaring, and hit the ground with a pair of earthshaking thumps.

"RUN!" Vetri yelled, shoving Leo in the direction of the square and taking off ahead of him.

They ran desperately for the tank, hoping it would provide cover from the Overlords. Behind them Leo could hear the earsplitting crackle of the drones' machineguns and the steady thump-thump-thump of the Overlords' 20mms. Halfway across, he turned just in time to see one Overlord grab a hapless drone and slam it into the ground, stomping it into spare parts as the remaining two peppered him with gunfire and 25mm rockets. The Overlord's partner returned fire, blasting the nearest one to pieces. The final drone was not long for this world either, taking a 40mm missile directly to the chest.

Watching the fight instead of where he was going, Leo tripped over a hunk of polycrete and was sent tumbling. He rolled over onto his back and was scrabbling to get to his feet as one of the Overlords charged directly at him.

"COLLABORATOR!" The man bellowed, voice distorted by his mask as he lumbered towards Leo.

Almost ten years of driving Overlords, and this was the first time Leo had ever seen one from the enemy's perspective. It was a terrifying sight, a hulking gorilla-like figure covered from head to toe in ceramic plate and bristling with weapons, its four beady glass "eyes" staring blankly into him. Leo made it to crouching position and drew his pistol, firing wildly at the oncoming suit.

The bullets glanced off harmlessly, the pistol locking open as a giant gauntlet swept Leo off his feet and pinned him to the half-destroyed wall at his back. Leo stared helplessly into the same visor that he had hidden behind for so long as the helmet swiveled open, revealing a shockingly familiar face.

"Leo?" The man asked incredulously. "But you're dea.."

Turks are garbage tier mausers. JT probably has Swede mausers as basic ones, which are top tier rifles.

Listen if it shoots and can do so accurately and with out any major issues then no rifle is garbage tier.

Yep, M/38

Complete with bashed to fuck stock and filed down everything (markings/serial etc)

Fired maybe 15 rounds

That may be true, but you cannot compare a swede mauser to a Turk mauser besides saying ''it's cheaper.'' Now a cheap rifle that cannot be matched is a K31. With surplus ammo, it's easily sub moa. Swiss can't be beat for militarized autism.

She was only ugly on the outside. On the inside, she was a beauty looking to be more accurate than any normal person could hope to shoot. May she find a new owner soon.

I know but I was just using it as an example. There is a swede mauser there as well but I couldn't remember the price.
