No way in hell anyone who's not mounted would be using anything less than a carbine.
PDW make sense in protective roles, where you're escorting a VIP without trying to seem imposing, but given that SG1 made primary first contact and dealt with the most hostile situations, you'd want them to be well kitted out.
I did like the episode with the drones and missiles fired through the wormhole, that was neat and a realistic way FS could be provided.

Easy, a mg42 hanging for the ceiling on a track that goes throughout my house. A mile long belt is hidden behind drywall that I redo every time I reload. The belt goes into the ceiling and feeds into the mg. also pedals are at the bottom of the armature so I can slowly bike my way through the house not making a sound.
