What's up with all the hate the 5.7 gets? It's a fun little pistol that's easy to shoot accurately, it looks great, and it's reliable.
But, for some reason. the gun gets so much hate you could easily identify it by how much trash is talked alone.
Because they have never shot one.
If you haven't noticed /k/ is full of childrens and poorfags who judge every piece of kit and every firearm like it's the only purchase they'll get to make for the foreseeable future.
Would I want a five seven as my go-to or only sidearm? Not really. Do I want a five seven as a unique, awesome shooting, extremely accurate and niche pistol? Absofuckinglutely.
A PS90 has appreciable benefits over other rifles.
A fiveseven has no appreciable benefits over other pistols.
I mean, if your only choices were a PS90 or fiveseven, EVER, no other guns allowed, sure. That'd make sense. But it ain't so.
Because when I point out that I know someone who took one straight to the brain and fully recovered from it, I get called a liar by the FIVE SEVEN STRONK crowd.
Then when I post links to news articles about Pat Zeigler where it talks about how exactly that happened at Ft Hood, they conspicuously ignore it, and start spouting bullshit about how the round is just-so-unstoppable just a few posts later.
I study historical swords as well, and people who act like the katana is the best sword have never even held a german kriegsmesser, and as a point, don't understand that nothing is 'best' - it all depends on your use.
Yeah, the price is a real limiting factor. I rented one at the range and thought it was pretty nice for what it was, but then i saw the price. Still fun to shoot, at least for me.
Just like ever sword forum is full of people bashing (sword they've never held before), like every car forum is full of people bashing (insert car they've never driven here). Jesus. All four of those pistols yours? I don't go for the tacticool black, bot other than that, beautiful.
>pistol is overpriced
>round is overpriced
>the good rounds are difficult to get or flat out illegal
>Nothing new to the table other than the different round
>Meant to be paired with a SMG that is not really good for civilian use (ie: doesn't do anything specifically well that an average person would want it for)
tl;dr: it's a hipster gun.
You kind of made my point though, it's not the only choice and chances are someone wants a very accurate and cool pistol.
I have plenty of pistols I never intend to carry in calibers there are carbines and PDWs available for.
Have you shot a five seven? I've seen novices ringing steel at 50 yards with them. I've seen skilled folks do literal precision work at 50-100 with them. It's a cool thing to have in a tiny pistol package.
Also works as a great trainer if ammo is free or you can afford to blow through it on your own dime. The five seven will point out a lot of flaws in your shooting that you may not notice with other calibers. It's weird, but it was the case for me and others.
I'm not saying your opinion is objectively wrong or anything, but I can think of plenty of reasons to own that pistol over the ps90 if we're talking about general use/fun.
PS90s are fun as fuck though, but I don't dig it in non-select fire variants. Same with the mp5, usc/ump and most other pistol caliber PDWs and carbines.
If I want to place single rounds into people my pistol is more maneuverable and easier to use in extreme/grappling range. If I'm getting a PDW/SMG I'm getting it to dump fist sized 3-6 shot groups center mass at room distances.
They were, I tend to change pistols like underwear. I'm down to the VP9 and Springer 1911. 90% confident the 1911 will be a lifer. On the fence about the vp9. Need to go give the P320 a squeeze this week and make a move on a new carry gun though. I'll probably be lazy and get a glock 19 again and convince myself I can get better with them.
>MFW I too also use the RCS Vanguard 2 to carry a G19
>No appreciable benefits over other pistols
-2130ft/s to 1700ft/s muzzle velocity
-EFFECTIVE range of 55m
-20rd standard magazines (1.6 lbs loaded)
-30rd barely extended rd magazines
-EXTREMELY accurate pistols
I don't plan on ever owning one but the pistol/round combination definitely has some appreciable benefits should they be desired.
>-2130ft/s to 1700ft/s muzzle velocity
>-EFFECTIVE range of 55m
Same as any other pistol.
>-20rd standard magazines (1.6 lbs loaded)
2-3 extra rounds of an anemic caliber. Cool.
>-30rd barely extended rd magazines
>-EXTREMELY accurate pistols
MOA identical to other pistols.
No appreciable differences arguably apart from capacity.
Yes. My personal opinion is that Tim is a cheese dick and not solely based on that video, but that's just my opinion. That "test" has no bearing on my decision, I have always been a DA/SA guy and a fullsize striker fired pistol isn't floating my boat. I'm on the fence because it is ergonomically perfect in my hands and points better than anything except maybe the P30, 1911 and p226 for me.
I have no intention of using the pistol as a shovel, baseball, boomerang or whatever else his test was supposed to simulate. As far as the extended memes go like not firing when wet or not being able to handle moderate dirt and abuse...I prefer to rely on my own first hand experience.
>9mm-.45acp being EFFECTIVE at 55m
>2-3 extra rounds
>Reasonable length (IE 10rd mags on a 1911) 30rd mags not being awesome
>MOA identical to other pistols
>Doc GKR being a retard again and comparing pistol ammunition to rifle ammunition instead of other pistol ammunition
>bullshit claims about how you have to shoot someone 15-20+ times to stop them
Seriously, even if you're shooting someone with a .22 pistol it's not going to take 20+ rounds on average to stop someone, that's fucking retarded and Doc GKR has no credibility for claiming that. If that was true then people would regularly need to be shot 2-3 times with a 00 buck from a 12 gauge shotgun to stop them.
>Everyone on gunbroker wants $1300+ for their 5.7
I'm not they guy you are asking but look closer at the picture.
What do you see? .357sig
What cartridge is that round based on? .40s&w
Whats the best guess that the barrel is? ^^^^^^^
5.7 is a cartridge designed for a PDW, and preforms well in that application, but when fired from a short barrel, it loses too much velocity and fight stability to be very effective.
there is zero benefit to using a 5.7 pistol over a 9nmm. the ammunition is also very expensive. FN designed the weapon in an attempt to open the market for the 5.7 cartridge to be less of a snowflake.
that being said I've owned several FN firearms over the years and have been nothing but satisfied with them. I'm sure the 5.7 is a good pistol, just not a good bullet.
>inb4 rubber gun
one jackass decides to leave his gun laying out in direct sunlight for untold hours on a 100+ summer day and suddenly every fn pistol is a goopy, rubbery piece of shit? yeah.... no.
I owned a MKii and have shot many many rounds through a USG. I shot thousands of SS195 and SS197 over many months.
I like the idea of aluminum core and frangible ammunition for various purposes, and it's a fantastic target gun, but when it comes down the round is not good for anything but that. The round is too small and even when it expands (from hitting a solid object) the expansion is pathetic.
So yeah, I shot thousands of dollars worth of my own ammunition in a gun I dreamed of owning, loved, and in the end, I have to say I'm just not a fan.
Oh, how long do you suspect the barrel needs to be for it to be effective?
There's somewhat decent access to aftermarket rounds in 5.7fn that are closer to armour piercing, or at least aren't hollow points, right?
>it's a fun little pistol
Have you ever seen one in person? It's fucking huge. It's almost the same size as a USP .45.
I'm also going to have to disagree with you on the looks comment. Maybe it looks good in in counter-strike with all the fancy skins, but in real life it looks flimsy and cheap. They put the serial number in probably the most retarded spot they could find and it has integrated cocking wings. It's also expensive as fuck for how unremarkable it is.
How is that a "cop-out"? Because they're popular and people won't know what a cool special snowflake you are because of the gun you carry?
>one jackass decides to leave his gun laying out in direct sunlight for untold hours on a 100+ summer day...
Why would you just make that shit up?
He said it wasn't that hot
He also said that it was squishy inside in air-conditioning.
Plus, even if it was because of the heat, FN claims that it should be good up to 140 degrees, so obviously either that claim's bullshit, or it's a defective gun. My thinking is it's the latter. It's amazing to see someone so devoted to a brand that they'll rationalize that brand's fuckups as being the fault of the unwitting customer.
And then there is this. While it definitely does the job, it's very annoying to hear fanboys whine about how the 5.7 is the best technological advancement in firearms ever, you'll also notice nearly everyone who bitches about how it's the best don't actually own one. Generally their info comes from games. I can't give a solid opinion on it gun wise as I don't own one either.
>The pistol is so advanced it will magically turn any blind novice into a marksman simply by holding it. While it's in your possession you're dick will be 12 inches long , soft, which you won't be, because you are diamonds while holding the one true weapon crafted secretly by GOD on the eighth day. Glory be to the Five-seveN, kali ma Five-seveN!
Hmm, seems unbiased to me.
Good velocity, relatively OK penetration for a ridiculously expensive pistol/PDW cartridge. And that's not even the good ammo. The weapons themselves are retardedly costly and difficult to find at anything considered a "decent price".
The ballistics of the .224/5.7x28mm is sadly laughable. It's a 5.56x45mm that's necked down to fit in handgun and PDW magazines. So a round that's meant for a rifle length 16.5 inch barrel with extra charge is now being pressed out of a smaller casing with less powder out of a 3.5 inch barrel.
It's basically a gun people buy if they're rich and already have 72 other guns, 70 of which they hide under their pillow while they sleep and two of which they press together and masturbate with using liquid 100$ bills as lubrication.
Otherwise, you buy a weapon that doesn't cost 1/2th your monthly income before bills, necessities and entertainment, ammo that costs less than my fantastic fucking bed for a magazine-full and hopefully is more useful than a bar of soap in a combat scenario.
Neat guns, though. At least they look cool and have interesting designs.
