Sure they should be monitored, but your rights should not be removed without due process. Someone who has had a bad day should not have their rights taken away.

Say your wife dies and you are found having a break down outside the liquor store. You are committed for evaluation. Now you can't own guns forever even though therapy worked. You aren't a threat to anyone else.

There's no right to appeal. There's no way to reinstate your right. It's not like you've committed a crime.

I'm for a temporary ban after being committed for a mental health issue. Maybe 30 or 60 days. I'm sure I'll catch hell on here from people saying it, but that's okay. You're committed for whatever, your rights are removed for a month or two, you are cleared by a medical professional, and your rights are reinstated.

There has to be a process. It can't simply be the judgment of a Joe Shmoe police officer to remove your rights forever just because you've had a bad day. It'd be different if you committed a felony during your break down-- we already have laws to enforce that.

The first part of the bill doesn't sound like a bad idea but there doesn't seem to be any clear way to have gun rights restored and it sounds like it could be easily abused. If you had a way to flag someone that would then require a mental evaluation that doesn't sound like an awful idea.

I don't see the problem with it.

It's a firearms hold; you'd be able to look further into it, and most likely get your gun in the end. It doesn't take away existing guns.

The left isn't going to stop, and some sort of concessions need to be made without flat out taking away guns.

Basically if someone thinks you're a nutter, you gotta explain yourself. I'd already take a gun away from a friend if I thought he was going to off himself or do something similar, the legislation falls close to that.
