can anyone tell me how the HK piston system is different from the LWRC(leitner-wise)'s piston system? I havent found much of anything in the way of side by side comparisons

I haven't noticed much of a difference when I've shot them. The 416 (well, MR556) is heavy enough that it probably cancels whatever extra recoil there is out. Maybe you'd notice a minor difference if you shot a DI and Piston gun back to back, but when shooting them on their own it's basically same shit different day. It doesn't suddenly become a .308 or anything.

The 416's oprod is noticeably beefier and I feel like the way they designed the engagement surface on the BCG is less prone to breakage.

The 416 also has some kind of Hk self-regulating gas block trickery but I have no idea what that actually means in practice.

Self regularing gas systems aren't user adjustable (meaning there's no unsupressed, suppressed, or similar positions). Essentially, as the gun gets dirtier, more gas is used to drive the piston, and it "regulates" without the need of a person physically flipping a switch
