What does /k/ think about SQUAD? Seems to require a lot of coordination and teamwork. Also the weapons are supposed to be super realistic.
Ultra-realism games like ARMA aren't my cup of tea. Balance tends to be shit, pace is extremely slow, and it just turns into autistix milsim bullshit.
In video games, I'd rather have a fun, fast-paced arcade shooter than a slow one with a million controls like ARMA.
>the action seems very slow. Also the getting shot once kill you like in Ghost Recon
I've been looking for a game like this.
GRAW 1 and 2 (PC VERSION ONLY) team deathmatch mode, online, precisely is to this day the most fun shooter I've played. Slow enough to be kind of realistic and allow some flanking/ambushing but not so slow as to be boring as hell.
Oh, and anything but one shot kills is really lame bullet sponge school kid console no guns garbage tier shit.
I like it, IMO it finds a nice balance between realism and fun. Its certainly not call of duty but its not like arma where your walking for 30 mins to get to an objective. Also it plays pretty smoothly and the community has the best teamwork ive ever seen online.
You don't really die in one hit, its only to vital parts like spine, organs, etc. If for instance you get shot in the leg you will limp until a medic can help you. Of course if you get hit anywhere in the face/head you are instant dead.
Save yourself the money for now and give a good while to get it's shit straight.
Shit runs like ass even on my bretty gud PC.
Go play Project reality for your fix of "large" scale warfare or Insurgency for your small squad based fix.
I think I'm going to just stick to Red Orchestra and the original PR. There isn't enough maps / factions and everything. Meanwhile I can go play the original PR and play as a conscript in the Chechnya / Grozny.
So I'll probably wait to see what happens with squad before I fork out the 40 bucks for early access.....
I'm playing the SP campaign of ArmA as I can't find a group of friends to play with online... but SQUAD for early access is just too expensive. Their pricing policy is idiotic, was it cheaper I would have bought it during the sales.
Ctrl+F Escape= no results. Ok, I will be the first to derail the thread. I am really hyped, but I hope there wasn't anyone that stupid to preorder or anything?
I was hyped until your posts made me check out the preorder bonuses
>preorder makes the game pay 2 win
>preordering a game with no release date
not an MMO afaik. EVEN IF THEY DO CALL IT MMO, people have been misusing the MMO term like shit.
-Yet another military themed realistic shooter
-HARDCUR GAMYR playerbase
control inputs are very simple in this game. there aren't a million stances and shit.
firefights in fobs and cap points are crazy, but large parts of each match will be setting up for these fights, so very lsow other wise.
right now, as someone who has it, i say wait 3-6 months for new content to come out.
insurgency is casual as fuck, but fun
It takes two to the chest for most rifles. The hitboxes so far appear very detailed.
the radio system is very well done, but the experience relies completely on the quality of your squad leader.
only because it's really rough right now. it really reminds more of america's army 3.
i get a consistent 33 fps on my laptop. still better than arma 3 with the same amount of players. again, give it a few months before purchasing if you haven't already.
i didnt get the hardcur feel at all. I mean, guys were talking and coordinating and the squad leader gives out orders. But if the squad leader does gay shit like ask people to follow ROE or get mad when we don't slice the pie right, everyone labels him as a faggot and ignores him
why did arma 3 devs have to fuck up with all of the lame future weapons and vehicles
people just want to shoot AKMs and ARs from these and whatever they used in the service
As a longtime player of Project Reality and with how much I respect all the developers from Black Sand and Squad I had no problem contributing to their kickstarter.
I actually lold at the codfaggots who said it was paced too slow. I hope I never have you in my squad.
>$30 why the fuck not, its the same people from Project Reality
>back to project reality
i've played pr for 10 years. most of the devs are guys i've played with off and on at some point. half of our guys come from arma as well. the overall consensus is that squad has a rock solid foundation. is it worth 40$? to me, it is absolutely fuck yes, but it's not a complete game. my personal recommendation is, if you like teamwork, sandbox and guns, buy it faggot. honest review, 8/10 and we don't even have vehicles yet. prepare to get shit on from all angles.
>People who think SQUAD is some Arma replacement
It is going for what Battlefield should be today. It is not trying to be ARMA. It is a successor to a BF mod
Have you ever shot a gun? I can promise you that a mag change is not some fluid magic thing. Sometimes magazines don't drop free and you have to shake it or pull it out. You're also realistically always going to keep your magazines so you have to put it away before pulling another one out.
You're also never going to reload at a dead sprint. I would argue Project Reality is closer to real life than even ARMA for combat because you can never just immediately raise your sights and make a bullseye hit after immediately stopping from a sprint.
It does run like shit and need better AA though.
I think you mean Battlefield should have ended after BF2142.
I haven't played it yet, but Project Reality, which Squad is based upon is fucking amazing.
Every other shooter is AIDS in comparison - a bunch of lone wolves against another bunch of lone wolves, unless you were actually part of an overly serious clan but fuck that. PR forced pubbies to work together and it was perfect. It's the only shooter where things like getting the MG to suppress and a fireteam to flank was often a factor. It was often like being in a movie 2bh.
So Squad is worth a try if it can hold a candle to PR.
>Maps are terrible
subjective, Fools road is great
they have vehicles, Unreal engine is shitty and doesnt have a get into vehicle button so they have to make a whole function from the ground up
>gunplay is aids and clunky as fuck
>Runs like shit
get a better computer
>AA looks like shit
>Unreal engine is shitty and doesnt have a get into vehicle button so they have to make a whole function from the ground up
I honestly can't tell if you are making a joke or not. Please say yes.
I can't find the actual post but yeah, all the vehicles are like 99% done and you can even see the models in the maps just no way to get into them.
they're still saying vehicles should come out this month
it's fun but i am sick of running all the way across the map to be killed by a teammates errant grenade. they need to add Humvees, toyota techincals, shitty motorcycles, helicopters, a10s, tanks, ect. They need to make all the aircraft and armor really realistic and hard to operate so it doesn't turn into shenanigans.
arma 3 is a platform for mods. there are literally thousands of mods that let you turn the game into whatever you want. there are wasteland servers that have like 700 guns.
>still no good World War 2 or Vietnam mods for ArmA 3 yet that aren't in pre-Alpha or some shit
I could go back to ArmA 2 but holy shit ArmA 2 runs like ass compared to 3.
All I know is that white people using the word 'squad' is more of their racist cultural appropriation.
>There are people who actually believe this
Wasted opportunity. The market doesn't need another hardcore milsim. The FPS genre is flooded with CoD clones on one end and Arma wannabes at the other. Squad could've been a great core FPS game. I don't know about you but I'm fucking sick of casual shit contrasted by hardcore shit.
All in all it's not a bad game. Like Arma but not needlessly complicated. But squad lacks the soul of its predecessor PR.
look into "tacBF" for pvp or "77th jsoc" for squad based pve.
its easy to find people once you get in, especially in 77th jsoc since you're not allowed to leave base until the commander places you in a team.
there is all kinds of skill levels as well so don't be afraid to be shit at it.
>Halfway between ARMA and Battlefield
I'm hooked and will follow
But who in their right mind would buy an early access game, it's bound to kill the game. Most devs end up running away with the money and give us an unfinished game
>Military term in use since the 17th century in Europe is culture approbation from ratchets and offensive towards Northern American negro lowlives posting shitty vines on twitter
What kind of cuckery is this.
It's like arma with actual developers and optimization, it's getting mod support so you don't have to play Arma 3 anymore with its ancient action system (scrolling through menus to open a door). As far as it being halfway between battlefield, nah its on part with arma in terms of gameplay but much more modern and actually not a hassle to do anything.
So excited for Tanoa. I can't wait to remove commies innajungle
Any XBone fags want a The Division beta invite? I doubt anyone heard of this game but its also a Squad type of gameplay however it's more of an MMORPG aspect.
Yep, pacific island jungle. Can pre-order it now with a 20% discount.
Or if you don't own Arma 3 already, there's a pack with all the shit together, for like 40% off the price of buying it all separately
Hello, non-milsim fag here gonna give a review of Squad. Long, autistic post ahead.
TL;DR: It's like Arma and Insurgency fucked and had a tacticool kid. $40 is a lot of money for what it is right now, but if this is your kind of game there's a ton of fun to be had.
I'm not usually down for uber realistic milsims, but Squad ISN'T one. From the dev's own mouths this is going to be a tactical first-person shooter. While realism is a cool addition they are focusing on FUN first.
So while Arma is like a big sandbox where you can do anything, Squad aims to do Arma in a smaller box and do it better. So far, I think, they've achieved that in terms of infantry combat.
Firefights in Squad are dynamic. Sometimes you'll be holding a ridge providing cover for a friendly Squad. You might be defending a base full of defenses because your squad lead is a faggot. You might be humping for 8 minutes across the map to massively flank and obliterate an enemy squad playing mine craft.
I've been in firefights that have lasted 30 minutes. All squads engaged for the same cap point. Flanking. Getting flanked. I've been in firefights where I straight up can hear nothing but gun fire for 10 minutes straight and the occasional "MEDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!"
So, the essentials are there for a fun experience. Like I said, I'm not a milsim guy. Squad does a really good job of insuring that fun is had before realism jews you.
As for people saying the one-shot-kill deal. It's not a real issue. Very rarely are you one-shot killed. More often you take a bullet and bandage yourself and sprint to a medic.
The game is at its best when the following criteria are followed:
1) You have a good squad leader. That means someone who doesn't like playing minecraft and builds a base. He knows that movement is the key to survival and will get you around the map with good maneuvering.
TL;DR2: More casual than Arma, more team oriented than insurgency.
2) You have a good medic in your squad. With a good medic your squad can stay alive a long time so long as you have #1. I really like the fact that medics can pick people up even one or two minutes from when they went down.
3) Your team doesn't build shit FOBs (base with lots of defenses) and sit in it the whole game burning tickets. Right now there's a lot of new players, so people like to play with the base building aspects. It's hard to convince people that it is not a good idea to sit in a single compound surrounded by enemies lumping 40mm shells into it. Hopefully this changes as the player base matures.
The Squad experience is fun as hell for me. These guys have gotten the infantry based combat right. The rally system and coming logistics system should add a whole new depth to the game. Given that the game is already fun, and the devs are responsive, I think that this is actually a pretty safe bet IF THIS IS YOUR TYPE OF GAME.
If you're unsure then watch some non-shit youtubers playing. $40 is a lot of money to ask for early access. Right now given the limited maps, if all the bugs were fixed, I'd value the game at $25.
Once vehicles come it'll be a whole different game. I have faith they won't fuck up balance too much, but, honestly, the infantry combat is so fucking fun that I might still play in infantry only servers from time to time.
Helicopters, transport and attack, are confirmed. Jets are not. APCs, IFVs, and tanks are confirmed. Supply trucks are confirmed (they will be used to supply base building points to FOBs in the future.)
It's already a fun game, for me at least, but I have a lot of faith in it getting better. Devs are implementing modding tools so the community should have some cool stuff in the future. Community, in general, while new is actually pretty good. Unlike something like Red Orchestra the majority of people will be using mics and coordinating.
Pc master race.
Its not a meme its real, fuck your controler, fuck your non upgradable system. Ohhhh and your TOS rules about calling some one a faggot or yelling rape gets you banned
The Division is made by ubi, there will be dlc out the ass, game will be bland, cut-and-paste maps with only interactions and enter able buildings in premade spots.
But I'm really hyped for the betat, maybe it's good
Yeah vehicles are finished but the you can't enter them with your character because that isn't coded at the moment. In the videos of vehicles they have made until now they spawned as the vehicle.
>i get a consistent 33 fps on my laptop.
That's pretty shit mane.
2 minutes on google.
2 fucking minutes you fucktard.
It's literally only being PUBLISHED by Ubisoft. the 3 teams working on it are the ones who did all the multiplayer modes for most of Ubisoft's games, one that does a lot of networking shit for various games and motherfucking Red Storm who is handling most of the creative shit.
PC games are fucking ridiculous. The fact that you have to spend 250 dollars on a graphics card to play the super special circle jerk club games is fucking retarded. Graphics are nice and while I love my PC, this fucking developer mentality that all games should require a card upgrade to play and maybe a CPU upgrade as well is fucking retarded.
still thinking using a laptop as a base for gaming is relevent.
>I have paid 350$ shitty laptop for work since 2009
>Ihave paid a gaming rig 1500$ in 2010, can still run GTAV/FallouIV/ARMAIII full settings
I didn't wasted 800+usd$ for a decent gaming laptop unupgradable that will run game on mid 2yr after.
Hi end tower pc, disposable laptops.
