1. so "federal courts" don't do things together. this is what one circuit did, and doesn't bind the other circuits. the 9th circuit where this happened is basically california, a bunch of states with as many people as guam, and guam. until anything else happens that's as far as the decision goes

2. the stolen valor act that criminalized faking your service was already struck down by the US supreme court in 2012 because lying is free speech

3. the reason lying is free speech is because the constitution prohibits content-based restrictions on free speech, even lying, like the new york daily news, unless there's a really good reason

4. this isn't a good enough reason

they government did put a database of medal recipients up so that it's easier to check on whether a person is doing this but let's remember that broad reading of constitutional amendments is not only a good thing when it has to do with something you like
