Talk me into or out of it kommandos. Own a WASR, and Vepr 12. 2 lowers and a 92G-SD. But ive always wanted a .308. Is there a cheaper alternative or will this beauty last me forever for the money it costs?
Get a SCAR-17S, and for that money you can upgrade your SCAR with a nice aftermarket rail, trigger, optics, sling, etc.
Or if you want to roleplay as a Rhodie, buy a FAL, which tend to be leagues cheaper. Only issue is they tend to chew up brass, same with PTR-91s and Pre-B HK91s.
I mean, it IS a good gun. SCAR 17S will do pretty much the same thing for $1000 less, but that's up to you.
Well I'm assuming you want it to be a semi-auto .308. Take a look at the lmt mws. Less than half the price and it's also not a piece of shit. Was the British army's dmr for a while before they switched to a long barreled sa 80. New Zealand also used it but I believe theirs had a longer barrel. Also it looks really cool.
>Is there a cheaper alternative or will this beauty last me forever for the money it costs?
SCAR 17 is cheaper and basically better in every way. I say that as a huge H&K fan, but the MR series are just huge fuck ups on H&K's part. We want 416s and 417s and they deliver a watered down variant.
Not to mention you're stuck with proprietary magazines either way and $30-40 FNH mags beat $90+ HK mags.
If you're Mr. Moneybags though then the SR-25 ACC trounces either.
>"Can't find one"
Look harder. Alternatively.
It's like the MR762 but better in every way. The SCAR17 is still the king of modern battle rifles, and you should ultimately aim for that if you want a semi .308 rifle.
Remember that you will need a scope and ammo.
I would get a scar17s and upgrade it
Side note, if you're a poorfag get something cheaper or save up for it cause it's an HK and HK doesn't like poor people
dropping 3500 bucks on a single non unique firearm.
you do know that 2000 dollars of that price is because of the rollmark right?
hell you can get a keltec RFB on gunbroker for less then half that.
Yeah, but then you'd be stuck with a lel-tec.
Yeah they did. Then from what I understand they moved back to a long barreled sa80/L86 after finding that it was adequate. But I can't find a source for that so I might have just picked it up from a british shitposter on here who was butthurt that they used american small arms. Regardless, I know that they only ever picked them up in limited numbers.
5000 fun check from the irs coming this year. Though I would like to not spend it all on one gun.
Do you want to run around and blast .308 rounds down range like it's going out of style? If you do, the SCAR 17S is for you.
Do you want to take carefully aimed shots, using only top quality factory or hand-loaded ammunition to produce the smallest groups possible? If so, the HK is for you!
Seeing as .308 costs an unborn fetus heart per round. I would rather have a marksman rifle.
>still isn't anywhere near release
According to them, it is. They've released prices, and announced they're taking pre-orders at SHOT this year, which is a pretty good sign it's about done.
They said at SHOT last year that they wanted it to release late in the 4th quarter of 2015, so I've waited all of a year for a new rifle to be made.
They're about on time with when they said it'd release.
I don't get why you're taking it so hard, after all, it's not a dick.
>tfw no 20in barrel
Literally one of two reasons I haven't bought one. Even getting a 20in barrel as a separate part to put on myself would be good enough but alas. Also
I have a PSA that functions well and chews through anything I feed it. That said, I bought one of their blem lowers and the magazine well wasn't flared enough at the bottom, so it doesn't accept pmags. Not a big deal, but just know that if you're going to be a cheap merchant moron like me and trade quality for price wherever possible, they have a fairly liberal definition of "cosmetic blemish".
I disagree. There's better guns in the price range
We do. It's just that there's no real standardised parts like the ar15, so builds are harder. The sr25 is ludicrously expensive. When I get enough pennies saved up, I'm building an ar10 precision rifle to complete my ar15 "tactical carbine"
Except it doesn't take much to make a scar a pretty good precision rifle, and it'll still cost less than the h&k
>military uses it
>built by professionals
>high quality parts and quality control
Still not worth its price tag, but a good rifle
If you're trying to save money, build
Their ar10s are like the only good thing dpms makes
The s&w m&p 10 is pretty solid
Sorry you can't afford anything nicer than your mosin fag.
>muh war relic
Not here it would seem. It has a terribly limited niche - I'm surprised it's still in production. It's for the fudd who wants to pay for a SCAR 17, but wants a traditional style rifle, and doesn't want a BAR. There aren't too many people who have that line of thought.
