I'm a 1LT in the Army and I've been told by an E7 that you can't shoot people with .50 BMG. The closest I can find about this old rumor is an old tank where the manual said the .50 wasn't for suppressing infantry. This is totally false.

I've also been told that the M14 was the most accurate rifle on the planet and civilians can't own it because it's a perfect sniper weapon.

This is mainly due to it being used significantly more than any other caliber, and not because the round is in any way more lethal than anything else (except maybe .25acp, fuck .25acp).

But to say it isnt dangerous is a flat fucking lie. It retains lethal energy at any distance you can intentionally hit a person at. The odds might be pretty low of it producing a fatal wound at 300m, but it definitely is capable of it.

Ive shot a bit of smallbore and a lot of silhouette, and have shot well out to 250 yards/230ish meters with match .22lr. At 200y I can hold a 3" 10 shot group (which almost never even places in the top 10). So it is doable.
