This is the second attack on a canadian soldier this week.

The last attack on Monday was carried out by an angry ISIS supporter who had been previously arrested a few months ago for tryign to get to syria to wage Jihad.

He was released from custody and put of a watch list "because radicalized email, vows to destroy western civilization, and a failed attempt to get to syria were not enough evidence to confirm that he was a Jhadist".

He then used his car to run down two Canadian soldiers, killing one of them.

tl;dr

Yes, this could be completely unrelated, but two attacks on Canadian soldiers in the same week is more than just a little suspicious.
