>tfw waiting for Pop Culture 6

Usually there's one or two tracks I like. I actually like the intro songs from all their albums though, it gets me pretty hyped.

Bloats filesize for no reason. Variable bitrate V0 encodes can use exactly as much bitrate as constant bitrate 320 kbps encodes if that is needed. However, it is not always needed and V0 can save on filesize by limiting the bitrate for frames that do not need it. I believe that a V0 encodes can go as low as 32 kbps on frames if they contain jack shit (think silence between the last track and the hidden track).

But if you actually think that you are getting better quality audio if the bitrate number says a constant 320 instead of varying between like 200 and 320, forget MP3s and go straight to FLAC. You can enjoy four-figure bitrates and you can actually do transcodes properly.

>Bloats filesize for no reason
This really depends on the music though. Most albums would have less than 5% difference in size.
I also prefer 320 because it's constant, I once got a slight headache listening to v0, though it may have been coincidental or a momentary thing, all I could think was that something sounded rather off and when I checked it was in v0. 320 is also a lot easier to spot shit rips/transcodes.
It's honestly not something to fight over though.

>And I mean actually /listening/ to it, not putting it on for background noise or something

Why can't you "actually listen" to it, even if it is on partially as background noise?
I legitimately feel unsettled with and have a hard time dealing with actual silence, so unless I'm watching something or doing something with its own audio(that's compelling enough to listen to instead of external music), I always have something playing.
And the "when" to actually "listen" to an album is relatively soon after it's been ripped. There's so much dead time between album uploads it's more than easily feasible, even if there's a sequence of 3-4 that come out all at once(which is pretty rare now for things I'd actually want to listen to).

>>17481437
You should check into noizenecio and Camellia.
Though I've kind of shifted out of the hardcore/gabba/speedcore side of things just because the vast majority of it being produced now feels really subpar compared to a few years ago. That and there's been a pretty heavy shift towards happy hardcore, which is (mostly) garbage outside of a few exceptions.
The whole "hi-tech" thing that's been popping up recently seems like the natural progression from a lot of the better hardcore-genre stuff, and is doing pretty solid.
I'm still sad cubegrams is dead.

I don't know about anyone else but I feel like I'm still /listening/ to the music even if it's background noise. I have music on at all times I can because I just enjoy listening to the music all that time. It's less just background noise and more a constant stream.

You're probably out of luck in that case, I imagine Mandarake only have what they do.

Another solution is if you know the albums you're specifically after and their circle is still active you could check if they've re-released some. Alot of longer lasting circles do release compilation albums often or some have started to digitally archive their stuff on Booth or Bandcamp.

If it's a long gone circle then you might be able to still find rips lingering around on the internet but I fear obtaining a physical copy will be a matter of extreme patience and persistence.

This. People like >>17481303 are just autists who think you need to do deep meditation while listening to music because his shit tier brain can't multi-task. No wonder he complains about his huge backlog, he probably literally does nothing all day because he "doesn't have time to focus" or something.

Well, even with these autismal standards I can still say I intensely focus on music frequently enough, mostly on train rides. Enough to regularly get sick of the music and renew my players folder. This is why I love Comiket. Gives me new stuff.

My sweetspot is actually 3 years on rewatches. But even then I can just redownload it. Maybe by then a better encode came out even. One that takes up less space. I keep all my music unless I truly don't like it but only because space isn't an issue. That doesn't mean they're worth preserving. Music obviously works different from tv shows. I get that too.
>>
>>17484772
I honestly think that everything I enjoy is worth preserving. At least with music, I listen to the majority of my music frequently because I just love music and I have a lot of music that I love. The ones I don't frequently listen to I still listen to more than occasionally. With all this in mind, hoarding music comes without consideration. No point in deleting something I like and use a lot.
Now for hoarding porn I have no real reason for doing that shit. I blame moot.

Is there a particular reason you're going with V1 over V0?
>>
>>17485531
I can't ABX v1 against v0. I figure people who can probably want the lossless anyway.

I stream from leme.me over my phone data once in a while, if I feel like listening to something I haven't crammed on to it as opus already, so the slightly lower bandwidth use is for my benefit. ed said the stats show quite a lot of people use this feature too, so it is also a benefit to the whole server.

TLDR: I'm just lowering the standard for selfish reasons.

Switching between two things is "multi-tasking", but it doesn't actually get you more done than one and then the other.

You're about as capable of paying attention full attention to a book and your music at your same time as you are capable of reading two books or listening to two songs at the same time.

So currently my doujin music collection is scattered across a couple of cardboard boxes and other storage containers. I'm gonna have more room for furniture in a few weeks here which is pretty exciting, so I'm thinking about buying a CD shelf or something similar to display them in.

What do you guys do for storing your albums? What are your current setups?

I'm glad I'm not alone. Furniture sure can get expensive fast, huh? I can't help but feel a little envious when people post pictures of their roomy, nicely decorated rooms. Though storing albums in boxes has its pluses too; you don't have to worry about them getting dusty or anything.
>>
>>17490017
>Furniture sure can get expensive fast, huh?
That's one part, yes. But I've only been living here for six weeks and I wonder about punching holes in the walls for affixing the bookshelves since I'm renting out. IKEA had a pretty nice looking bookshelf, I think it was called BILLY or something, but it's quite tall and you are supposed to screw it onto the fall to prevent it falling.

Dust is certainly a benefit, but you can't really admire your collection when it's in a box.

Well, the thing that turns me off from FLAC is the insane filesize (though I guess it's justified) and I'm pretty sure no matter what cans I have or how well I clean my ears I wouldn't be able to hear the difference anyways, is there a better compromise than mp3?

it's shit because it's pointless in comparison to v0, but it's only like 20% more shit than v0. it doesn't fucking matter.

flacfags will always sperg about how superior they are but there's absolutely no reason to go with lossless if you never intend to modify/distribute the audio file.

if anyone tells you they hear a difference between properly encoded files at >200 kbps they are full of shit.

3MB, 1920x1080px
>>17492415
Then why aren't CDs at 200kbps?
>>
>>17492280
Nobody can, there is a reason why people who claim they do are never able to actually prove it by means of a proper double blind test. The bitrate at which a lossy file cannot be distinguished from the lossless source varies depending on the music, distortion already introduced during the mastering stage etc but can be as low as ~128kbps in many cases. Bitrates between 200-250kbps will achieve transparency with almost every file.
The reason why FLAC is preferred over mp3 for long term storage of music is that reencoding of lossy files (for example, mp3 to opus, aac etc.) results in further quality loss which will eventually become audible and storage space really is dirt cheap these days
>>
>>17492440
>depending on
Stopped reading there. Either they can or they can't. Don't debunk your own argument already.
>>
>>17492442

They can. He's just explaining that the minimum bitrate required for transparency can vary.
>>
>>17492426
same reason people still use 320k mp3s instead of v0. they got used to it and there's not much reason to bother changing it now.

nice avatar btw
>>
>>17492473
I did, and to no one's surprise I couldn't distinguish 320kb cbr mp3 from flac in a properly controlled double blind test. Highest bitrate to achieve transparency occured with euphoric field by Elisa, which required about 220kbps, lowest was about 120 kbps for some old rock recordings. Feel welcome to actually prove me wrong about the transparency of 320kbps mp3, which you will be unable to do.

The best I've ever pulled off in an ABX is ~160kbps CBR with some denpa. 192 feels transparent as far as I can hear, and 128 is audible in ABX for most everything.
>>
>>17492442
If you really can't grasp that different audio files will have different points at which a lower bitrate encoding can be discerned from the lossless one there is no helping you.

You're kind of looking in the wrong place if you're after original songs, doujin music by very definition are going to be fanworks/covers. There will be original music released but it is going to always be lesser in number or have little exposure.

https://soundcloud.com/accord_on_codes/night-at-underground-xfd

I mean if you're okay with that than you could check out Accord on Codes release they did a very good SA Touhou cover. But admittedly I think jazz genre is less touched on, bossa nova seems to get more attention.

If you really want original work than what you should be checking out is the last M3 39 which is an actual Indie music event.

Or alternatively check out Booth's Apollo event which often has a lot of carry overs from M3 usually unsold stock but ends up putting up a lot of albums on Booth for DL purchase.

Maybe it's a cannon that literally shoots furries out of it.
Maybe it's just a cannon manned by a furry.
Maybe it's a cannon to fire at furries.

We just don't know.
>>
Wonderland is pretty good.
>>
>>17499551
The album art and track list is an adventure onto itself.
>>
>>17500208
>>17499551

The album is an absolute mess of samples and themes that Camellia even vaguely associated with the word "exotic" and it's one heck of a ride.
>>
>>17500302
I'm mostly just pissed that there isn't any actual jungle on it aside from the intro track.
>>
>>17493549
crazy question, where did you get the source code for that html5 music player from? That's pretty sweet looking.
>>
>>17500302
I don't think "exotic" was the thing he was going for. From the description on the webpage, it seems to go for more of an "aggro/raw" vibe. I'd put it on the lower half of his albums, it's a mixed bag but I think anyone who listens to Camellia will probably find at least two or three songs that they really enjoy. (Ethnik Khemikal Teknologi is certainly worth checking out.)
>>
>>17499785
Maybe it's just a cannon made of fur
>>
>>17500438
>I'd put it on the lower half of his albums

Really?
I mean it's not Insane Inflame, but after going over it a few times it feels pretty solid all-together, so long as you're a fan of the multiple *core genres. I mean, I don't know how it'll fare in long-term listening, but it's at least better than Cyphisonia.
Also entertaining that one of the better songs on the album is titled "Love yiff!"

>>17500472
Shit, I didn't even think of that.

On an unrelated note, Hommarju's HYENA album was actually a lot better than I was expecting. Also felt really nostalgic for some reason.
>>
>>17493549
>>17500409
The player looks okay but where is its volume control?

I can't find it in the player UI and I've always hated how Soundcloud embeds don't have it.
>>
>>17501314
funny you should ask in the source code link it says: <meta name="description" content="HTML-based Media Player (created by ed). No volume controls ever get over it">
>>
>>17492280
There's no need for compromise at all with storage prices being what they are now. For cramming a bunch of music on your phone, opus is the current meme. It's also nice to have lossy files so that you can transcode them without losing quality. I have my media program set to make mp3s for my older car stereo, opus for my phone, and aac for streaming to my ps4 when I play wipeout.
>>
>>17492670
I've been able to ABX some files between 128, 320, and lossless. Some other files, I couldn't tell between 128 and lossless. It depends so much on the source. Funny thing, I can usually predict whether I will be able to just by listening to the music. It's hard with doujin electronica type music, but the amazingly-well produced black metal albums by Emperor are really easy.
>>
>>17501480
Maybe it's just me but I don't need to cram my phone full with music. More than 100 albums I don't see necessary. Maybe if I go off somewhere without any internet access for a long period of time I can see worth in transcoding everything for on my phone but even then. That's just my opinion though
>>
>>17501480
>with storage prices being what they are now
They aren't that low. They've been lower historically and SSD prices have been on the rise as well.

>>
>>17499760
wtf calm down
>>
>>17502233
you don't use SSDs for storage though
>>
>>17502435
SSDs have less random failures, so they would actually make for better for storage, not to mention their other benefits (smaller, use less energy, generate less heat, faster). SSDs mostly just fail when you max out the writes.
>>
Where the fuck is the Tomato Gummy album?
>>
>>17502492
I think his point was that SSDs aren't meant for long term, low-level access of massive amounts of music, something suited better to HDDs (or if you're worried about random failures, HDDs in RAID, but at that point the cost benefit kind of goes out the window). If all you're doing is accessing music, SSDs are overkill on write speed and give you less storage.
>>
>>17502492
>SSDs have less random failures, so they would actually make for better for storage
I don't think that's how it works. In general: SSD is a newer technology so has a higher fail-rate.
>>
Someone MEGAREX's albums: Ultra Hi-tech 03 and Ninja Is Alive in lossless?
>>
>>17502546
Yes
>>
>>17502527
>give you less storage.
Less storage in relation to what?
>>
The main thing preventing me from switching over to SSD is the write cycle limit. I understand that it isn't an issue for the vast majority of users, but the idea of something like that just isn't attractive to me.
>>
>>17502553
Sorry, I meant if someone has MEGAREX albums in lossless.
>>
>>17502564
You just put your OS on your SSD, maybe a game or two that benefit from slower loading times and that's it.
>>
>>17502564
It's literally hundreds of terabytes to petabytes. You're not going to hit it anytime soon with normal consumer use. And by the time you would be in danger of hitting it, you're probably replacing your SSDs for faster/cheaper/bigger/more efficient ones anyways.
