Can someone explain to me all the hate that osu gets here?
I just wanted to get into a rythm game and osu seems pretty easy to get into (the game and community isn't japanese based)
Is it because it stole game modes from other games?
As a pc port of Ouendan it works well.
>>
>>17424350
Because it's casual as fuck, the main gamemode is hardly a rhythm game, and the community is shit.
>>
>>17423307

I actually played it for awhile and did enjoy it but basically just started spending my credits elsewhere. overall it's really well done in all respects.
>>
>>17424181

how the fuck is elisha an easy 11? its an easy 10 not an easy 11.

rock da house from RA is another easy 11
>>
>>17424350
Just not a skillful game. Timing windows are so easy you can mash your way through a song and the scoring system is combo-based only.

So if it's your first rhythm game, your improvement in the game is based on full combos, rather than strong accuracy. Accuracy has value, but it is infinitely lower than just getting a full combo unless you got a 100%, which new players whom are learning timing won't get on songs that are worthwhile for them.

When every other rhythm game that's worthwhile values good timing over solely hitting the buttons, it's a disaster.
>>
>>17423307
cxb is a pretty good game with a really good songlist

its got the jubeat/touchscreen game problem of either being boring easy or impossible to sightread though
>>
>>17424350
If your first time seriously getting into a rhythm game isn't spent on one of IIDX, Pop'n, or DDR, you're wasting your time.

objectively bad. nothing good about it besides the sleek client. music is all stolen, charts are low quality, stolen artwork, every mode is a shitty implementation of a mode from a real music game, bad timing systems, bad scoring systems, community is filled with underages and lolicon pedos

>>
>>17424465
>music is all stolen
>stolen artwork

lmao who the fuck cares

>every mode is a shitty implementation of a mode from a real music game
are you seriously implying osu is a worse implementation than elite beat agents and Ouendan?
>>
>>17424493
you're right, i misspoke. eba isn't a real music game. it's casual. osu! standard is like making custom charts for parappa the rapper.

osu standard is trash. it's the only game that is guaranteed to give you RSI in both hands, and the highest level maps are just "stream 16ths and draw a squiggly line"
>>
>>17424505

>>
>>17424514
No him but look, if you are one of those fan believing that osu! is a great game and that we shouldn't care about stolen art and bad gameplay you should go somewhere else.
Bragging about how much better you are than someone who doesn't like the game is dumb, and it's this kind of behaviour that's parts of what makes the osu community a bad one
>>

>>
>>17424536

>>
>>17424533
I wasn't bragging, I was implying that someone who can't even play difficult maps isn't really in a position to judge them.
>>
>>17424408
Thanks; i'll start playing lr2 and get into it.
>>
>>17424545
Why? You can still judge the mechanism behind a difficult level without playing it
Also, it is bragging because picking a rank that is higher than 99.5+% of the playerbase is pure hypocrisy
>>
>>17424599
>a rank that is higher than 99.5+% of the playerbase

Of the players that play on even a semi-regular basis 50k is maybe top 25%.
>>
>>17424350
Personally I dislike it because of the mindset it gets you into, just mashing retry trying to FC to get PP due to the global leaderboards, it makes it impossible to have fun. This mindset will stick with you if you move on to other music games afterwards, It's hard to get rid of, and can make your experience with other games pretty shitty. It's fine if you don't care about score and enjoy the gameplay though.
>>
>>17424485
Thanks, i think i'll get into iidx and if need be i'll buy a iidx asc.
>>
>>17424391
I never had trouble with that song for some reason. The ending, the only challenging part, always flowed nice on my fingers. meanwhile, Rock the House took me some tries.
>>
Do you think Konami would personally raid dolce's house if he was ever streaming or using one of dao's controllers
>>
>>17424632
He used to stream with a Dao on Empress I think, but switched to the konmai ASC probably because they did raid his house
>>
>>17424350
So easy to get RSI it makes Stepmania look ergonomically versatile, non-set timing windows, zero quality control in charts, scoring meta is based on combo as opposed to timing, and the client is spyware.
>>
>>17425150
>non-set timing windows
why is this a bad thing
>>
>>17425157
See: og Gambol
>>
>>17425157
Because you end up with a bajillion songs with fucked up timing a la pop'n music where the early games and ee'MALL songs have drastically different timing windows compared to any song made for the game in the past decade. People put up with Gambol 7K because of the meme, but if every song from 1st to 4th style was like that nobody would touch those folders because the difficulty of going for AAAs would be retarded for the sake of being retarded.
>>

>>
>>17422804
She's about to get run over
>>
>>17422804

>>
>>17425265
There is nothing wrong with Stepmania on a pad/home setup. It's actually quite a decent rhythm game with robust support.

Stepmania on keyboard however may cause RSI due to it only being 4k, so the only way to increase density is by increasing speed of notes, and rapidly mashing only your index/middle fingers on both hands tends to lead to RSI.
>>
>>17425265
playing high level spread kb stepmania will give you rsi eventually

if you play index and/or stick to pad charts you should be ok

Also the illustration on the left has GREAT at 9 frames wide, while it's 5 frames on the right.

cons
-community is young/annoying, attracts a lot of weebs
-the whole spyware shit was rough
-scoring is stupid, esp in osu!standard (combo>acc)
-ranked mania maps arent that great, timing and mechanics are shitty
-some would argue aim based rhythm game is counter intuitive
-popular

pros
-free
-big community so a lot of maps depending on game mode
-gateway to better games

there are just so many better games that you could be playing. youll get to a point where you are just retrying maps over and over trying to win imaginary points in a game with awful mechanics.

the game can be fun sometimes if you just play maps just because you like the song and dont care about combos or score.

if you care about pirated shit then i guess you could get mad about that, but half of the motherfuckers who cry about it dont bat an eye at sows

anyways play whatever you want

I wasted a lot of time on this, but a lot of misinformation has been spreading around for years, and >>17425505 pushed me over the edge.

The default IIDX timing windows are the following:

bbbbbbbb ggggg G PP G ggggg bbbbbbbb

P = PGREAT
G = GREAT
g = GOOD
b = BAD

- The timing windows are symmetrical. There aren't more GREAT frames on one side. This misconception probably stemmed from IIDX defining the GREAT window as from frame -1 to frame 3. However, the late edge is not inclusive (-1 <= x < 3), so it's 4 frames total and not 5.
- PGREAT is actually on frame 0 and frame 1, not -1 and 0. The negative values define the early window edges and the positive values define the late window edges.
- Autoplay during attract mode hits notes on the early frame of the PGREAT window.
- Despite the default timing window definitions being {-16, -6, -1, 3, 8, 18}, the game appears to truncate values less than -14 or greater than 16. This is why the BAD window is only 8 frames on both sides instead of the 10 one might expect. This is the behavior for LDJ games, at least. I don't know if it's any different for older games.
- The turntable has different timing windows, but I haven't measured that yet. It probably just has an extra late frame added to every window.
- SD, HD, and HD* modes are equivalent to -2.0, -3.0, and -4.0 offset, respectively. The in-game offset is added to this.
>>
>>17432204
Sounds like you just took all the common information and changed it to misinformation

Now that I've finally beaten the 11 wall, should I upgrade my FP7 with sanwas? Aren't they less noisy than Daos keys?

Are my worries justified or is it all pretty safe to mess with?
>>
why do people hate keyboardmania so much

>>
>>17434019

They're not particularly less noisy, the noise comes more from the switches you have. And if you haven't upgraded those from the default honeywell ones i highly suggest it, the sanwas are more of a luxury.
It's incredibly easy to change your buttons, even easier than switches, everything just takes a little bit of twisting or pulling, no screws or tools are needed

Is getting a ASC with both sides the only way to reliably play double with proper arcade distance?

I thought that if I got a 2nd FP7 or something I could just put them next to each other and play Double

nope

I don't see how 2 fp7s isn't reliable. Either way, the distance between them should make absolutely no difference unless you have obnoxiously tiny hands.

I wouldn't know since there are none here.

Very. The lights are possibly the best part about it. Maybe if you live in Japan or near an R1 it wears out, but playing on a cab for the first time was definitely a stunning experience.
They are wide, but considering that it is meant for 2 players, it's not bad.

watch videos of people who are good at doubles. lots of them just play on 2 separate controllers. having a doubles controller is definitely not required. when you're learning you're going to have a lot more to focus on than the distance between your controllers (which you can always just correct or build a frame)
>>
>>17435979
Yes, but if you're taller than 5 foot 7, disappointment starts to sink in when you have to use a power stance to play "comfortably".

How often do you play during a week? I think I am learning slowly, unfortunately.

>>
>>17440161
First played beatmania IIDX in 2006. First played DDR several years before then. Took a couple multi-year breaks from both sometime between then and now.

>>17440184
As long as you're still seeing incremental improvement, it probably doesn't matter, unless you're trying to catch up with some rival or something.
>>
>>17440184
I play anywhere between 1-5 hours a day. Everyone learns the game at a different pace. I'm learning it so fast because I've had about 2 and a half years of experience with stepmania before picking up IIDX.
>>
>>17440161

Swing is a distinct rhythm that shifts off-beats later in time, typically to triplets.

As an example, Sayonara Heaven uses grace notes (non-essential to the rhythm) whereas 時空トラベローグ is in swing.

Actually that was a really bad example as サヨナラ・ヘヴン uses both grace notes and swing.

The circa 2006 method where you open your USKOC and cut some wax paper in the template of the plastic insert, put it in between, put your USKOC back together, and makes scratching smoother/less friction.

Where can I find custom charts for O2jam? I'm really enjoying the game but all songs I have are some shitty korean pop songs and I've seen people playing songs like freedom dive, joker, death moon. I searched on google but can't find shit, Can anyone help me?

What is the difference between omnimix and the normal game?

Why is omnimix like 12GB and normally it's 30+

Whatadaheck

jp is not the place for this question

and it's a stupid fucking question like lmao use your brain nigga

Omnimix includes cut songs from every IIDX as well as CS only black anothers.

Dunno if you can play omnimix on its own though

There's always Freaky Freak EXH. A 15 with barely any knobs.
>>
>>17446506
People are saying this is good for SDVX too, but is it really? Isn't the whole appeal using the knobs? Turntables are fine to use in games they were designed to use.
>>
>>17446996
We don't know, nobody touched it except the Virgoo Team.
But, it could be great (the TT are small and the movement will not be THAT different from a knob)
>>
>>17446996
It would be better than keyboard, certainly, but I'd imagine a dedicated controller would still be much better.
The other appeal of the SDVX controller is that you can stretch your hands out and slap some big buttons, rather than cramping up with small IIDX buttons.

What's better for improving?
>going for alright passes (say B+) on songs that are a little bit harder than you're used to
>just playing for any clear regardless of how bad on songs that are significantly harder than you're used to
for the second one I don't mean like completely out of the realm of possibility but maybe a level or two higher such as playing 9s when you're used to hard 6s and easy 7s
>>
>>17447577
I find that the best way to improve is just to play a bunch of different songs instead of grinding for scores. Playing songs outside of your skill range also doesn't really help because usually you'll just end up mashing alot and it helps nothing.
>>
>>17447577
Any new clear is a good clear, so I'd go with the latter, as long as you aren't grinding stuff you can't even read.
Always a good idea to throw in some easier stuff as well though, to make it more fun and to improve your timing.

They rolled out a new update that had songs it wasn't supposed to, so when you tried to play their charts they didn't exist, so it falls back to the first chart in the game, which in this case, is 凛として咲く花の如く スプーキィテルミィンミックス's NOV

Not really a regular here, but why so much hate with PIU?

Sure the timing judgement is so fucking easy, but I'm a SEA and no DDR here, and there is the VJ judgement mode too for the technical players

The easy judgement lends itself in freestyling too (the only dancing / leg game exist here is Danz Base, I don't play that shit because the regulars here are pure cancer)

Guy who got fucked by Respect here. Dropped my GN to 300 and WN to 180 and my fast/slow ratio stabilized. Is doing stuff like that okay in the long run or is it better to derust on the settings I was used to? Game feels too fast and leaves my brain tired.

It's a very annoying derust since I'm trying to fix my accuracy and hand skills. For some reason I can't do scales at all anymore even though I was great at them 10 days ago.
>>
>>17450576

>>
>>17450240
piu isn't actually hated, it's just excessively memed on due to timing windows
>>
>>17450240
PIU is actually good though.

the only meme is that hold notes don't actually require you to press at the correct time, so there's that one chart you can pass by sitting on a chair.

>>
>>17453163
i was thinking of playing voltex for shits and giggles but the main reason i want the virgoo is to see if id prefer to switch to P2
>>
>>17453178
That's what AC is for. Go visit your local R1, it'll probably cost you less than that controller.
>>
>>17453178
Takes like 1-2 minutes to swap between sides on an FP7.
>>
>>17450240
cons:
bad charts
bad timing
bad scoring
bad playerbase
freestyling exists
95% of the songs in the originals folder
pros:
doubles mode is better than ddr doubles
kpop
kpop
really, kpop
it's fun
co-op mode
>>
>>17453232
o shit i didnt even know that im such an idiot
when i saw 1P or 2P on the website i assumed you could only play on the side you ordered it and you couldnt switch it
>>
>>17451764
What were you using before? Slower scroll speed is generally a better idea since you become more consistent instead of just reacting.
>>
>>17453243
You accidentally put kpop under pros.
>>
>>17450192
damn what a shit song
>>
>>17453350
Wasn't too different from what I have now. 320 GN and 149 WN and was extremely comfy and I was proggressing through the game at very fast rates until i got Respect'd.

I started doing better jn terms of score when forced myself to wait quarters of seconds until i pressed a button which shows my sense of timing really got damaged. Raising the speed just a little makes me wait less but overall it just makes me mash more and my fast/slow numbers are way higher even if they're roughly 50/50 split.
>>
>>17453560
It is. The other Paul Bazooka songs in the game are way better and overall the original songs for Respect were good and with decent variety though.
>>
>>17453747
Both of those should be fine I think, so just stay with your new settings if they're comfortable.
However, it might actually be your offset. Not sure how DJMAX does it but newer IIDX games make you press the keys while the note is on the actual line instead of pressing in advance like a lot of other games do.
The timing itself should be identical if you time by audio, but it might mess you up visually.
You could try using the console offset (which I believe is +3.0?) or just upping it a bit and see how that goes.
>>
>>17453163
>unless you actually plan on playng djmax and unoptimal voltex
And Ez2AC, Project Diva Future Tone and probably more
>>
>>17453840
>Not sure how DJMAX does it but newer IIDX games make you press the keys while the note is on the actual line instead of pressing in advance like a lot of other games do.

That's probably what went wrong for me. When I started Respect I got the worst possible grade in my first song for bad accuracy. My brain fixed it by making me press before reaching the line which fucked me up in IIDX

I don't want to mess with offsets though unless I really need to.
