So no crack for Nanawind's game or any PlayDRM game for a very long time, huh. I thought yukumai is our friend, but well he is a chinese after all.
>>
>>17296684

If people care, there'll be one. People just don't really care in this case. That's pretty much always how it is.
I mean, we JUST had the whole nyaa thing going on with people being like "there'll be NO WAY to get ANY EROGE anymore", or whatever BS was posted. Remember to relax and think for a little.
>>
>>17296709
>If people care, there'll be one. People just don't really care in this case. That's pretty much always how it is.
I dont really agree since Yukumai was the only eroge cracker who was able to crack playDRM and other shits. If he decided to go full only chinese shit as well there'll be no crack to download from any other platforms.
>>
>>17296684
It's kusoge no one cares about.
>>
>>17296724

And nyaa was the only site where you got eroge easily, comfortably and without registering anywhere around release, among JAV and whatever else.

You say he was the only one, but was he really? Why would anyone else bother cracking something, if someone does it regularly already?
Like always this early, relax. There's no way to know how it develops. We don't know anything yet. A single game lacking a public crack after like 10 days is nothing. We can start "panicking" if no playDRM game has a public crack in 2 months or so.

>Seiya-saiga guides aren't really made with great care
that's news to me i always found them reliable until now but maybe like you said it wasn't properly checked after the order was changed. at any rate i found the right choice for the friend route and everything seems fine in the subsequent loops so it all worked out
>>
>>17296636
It doesn't actually.
>>
>>17297013
maybe you should write the seiya-seiga dude a mail or contact him on twitter to fix the guide?
>>
>>17297013

Like I said, they mostly work, but they aren't very optimized.
Basically the best guides have the "branch" as late as possible and need as little skipping as possible to get the goal, which is usually 100% CG. A few of their guides are like that, some others have rather weird branching, don't tell you about choices that don't matter and so on. Or like Chrono Box where you literally felt how the author realized some mechanic of the game and abuses it at the last point it happens, but didn't go through things another time to adapt the guide to always use it, so you don't have to save+load so many minor things.

It's okay, the guides are come really early and do their job, but small issues and even errors can happen. Usually errors are in the form of a choice not appearing or an additional choice appearing, that however does not or almost not influence things. There was only one time I followed their guide and got to a completely different route, but I think that was on the game. I still don't know why and how that could happen as the choices aren't even too blind. Was a very interesting experience nonetheless.
>>
>>17297039
i hate writing formal mails if i can avoid it and don't have twitter

if you or anyone else wants to try, basically in the 12th loop the end should look like this:
雰囲気的な?
そういうのはいいです

>>17297108
>Like I said, they mostly work, but they aren't very optimized.
maybe i haven't noticed that because i haven't been playing games with such complex route formats but at least with this game the endless loop system requires you to make the same choice multiple times anyway so trying to optimize it would be difficult regardless. well, i'll pay more attention to walkthroughs when i actually have more than one choice from now on at least

The thing is, it never happens again in any other route, and the excuse is merely that they've gotten a small amount of training in a short period of time. At first I thought Hiei finally decided to raise the stakes and have a more serious narrative, but then a bunch of asspulls happen repeatedly in the other routes when Sou goes to Fugaku and manages to succesfully trick and escape the most powerful city in the world. Plain simple, Hiei needs to stop centering his plot around half a dozen characters. This time it hurt the setting more than ever because there were only two groups: fugaku and wadatsumi, and the former is a thousand times more powerful than the latter. Everything becomes overly one-sided and it came across that the game wanted to create as many excuses as possible for me to HATE the antagonists, and LOVE the protagonists. I know Baldr is known for its akuyakus but I'm tired of the "wow this guy is a dumb rapist the entire cast hates him".
Honestly even though I quite enjoyed Heart, it really feels like Hiei is running out of tricks. It's good that it seems we're finally getting closer to touching themes that encompass the cyberspace's setting, but I'm growing tired of his formula. I swear I could make a hiei bingo for the next baldr and it'd work wonders. Featuring: "hacker heroine/support character", "AI asspull", "amnesiac MC", "HANA WO TSUMAMU JIDAI", "genha clone", "nano assembler", "absolutely evil villain" (tachibana, neuhnzenn, yuudai), etc.
>>
>>17296684
We just need a 300 level kf member to leak that universal crack. Its probably very hard, but shouldn't be impossible.
>>
>>17297726
>Everything becomes overly one-sided and it came across that the game wanted to create as many excuses as possible for me to HATE the antagonists
I think they tried to do the opposite with Misaki and her "oh what a poor little thing" woobie role for what is a generic unlikeable yandere character, to a rather grating extent. Otherwise pretty much agreed with everything you said. The biggest fault with Baldr sequels is that they've already become way too formulaic and they keep recycling the exact same character archetypes, plot devices etc. even though on their own they're still enjoyable games.

That seems to be an issue with a load of sequels in general, especially those that start fresh with a new set of characters but nonetheless give them the same traits and plot developments as the previous cast, but Baldr easily takes the cake in that respect. Partly the reason why I didn't like the new Utawarerumono games as much as I would've wanted to either. Definitely entertaining but leans too much on "been there, done that" kind of thing.

If the universal crack leaks and people behind the DRM see it I can guarantee things are going to get worse.
>>
>>17299495

Worse than what? Worse than no public crack? I doubt anyone here cares. At that point it's pretty much just as if nobody bothered and either someone else does it, or nobody gives a shit about eroge anymore.
>>
>>17297603
Oh man you'll love her entire route then, she's a complete semen demon.
>>
>>17299638
There is a tool that works now, even if it's it not public someone who has access to it might release a crack eventually. And it seems to exploit some loophole because you don't even need a serial. If it leaks, it can be made useless by the DRM devs once they figure out how it works.
>>
>>17299365
where do I acquire this
>>
>>17299784

Again, that's not mattering. If it remains like "right now", most people aren't gonna play those games anyway. Unless you are a part of those who have access to this crack, there's no reason to care about things getting "worse".

It's completely normal that DRM fights against cracks. DRM "wins" as soon as no easily available crack exists anymore. (the longer after release, the better)

This time its not at mikocon so its not "payable" though. Its from yukumai (the cracker who cracked pretty much every game until now) and he put it at the 2dkf with a 300 level lock. Which means if you want to get that crack, you have to share some games cgs etc at their chinese forum and gain 300 level. They dont accept money & donation etc so there is no simple way to get it either.

Okay so i finished otome*domain other than the omakes and extra h-scenes.
It was fun with Yuzu's route being a wild ride.

Kazari has a a mediocre route with some cute moments, I feel like you have to do her route to better appreciate Yuzu's route.
Her route involves MC coming to fall for her, her obsession for the MC and her having to quit being the headmaster

Hinata is adorable and my favorite girl, I smile when I see her on screen and I feel bad when I see her bullied. Her route is unlike anything I've seen in eroge. It's so meta and unexpected for a moege.
Her Route involves her coming to terms with change, conforming to social norms, sexuality, friendship, identity crisis and existentialism. I'll probably do her route again.

Yuzu was the girl I disliked the most at the beginning but later on grew to like almost as much as Hinata. She has the probably one the most shocking romance routes I've read in a long time. I had to get up and move to calm my nerves and process what just happened.
Her route involved them finding out somebody is spying on the MC, love triangles, and planned marriage.Yuzu had the most engaging route with her ending felt like the true end with how the how the character acted at the end.

I really liked this game.
Some parts bored me and I really wished Hinata's route involved the other characters as much as Kazari and Yuzu's or was a bit more fleshed out she's so adorable on other route I felt like doing her route again.

Looking forward to their next title.

You're not wrong regarding her, but my problem with Misaki is that she's merely Ren on steroids. Yeah, okay, she's much more fleshed out than Ren but it doesn't change the skelleton of the character. My issue is that Hiei seems to be simply incapable of doing villains that either work based on innocence/insanity (can't really be blamed for their acts), or sheer cruelty/selfishness (assholes you should hate). Honestly if it wasn't for Nagi's route and the solid, well integrated themes and setting, I'd have thought of Heart as a really mediocre game. You can see Hiei has not great ideas but he can make good, immersive plots but he needs to step up his game. I worry I'll drop the next baldr if I see yet another inferior genha clone.

Silverio Vendetta taken apart (sound, character design, visuals, text...) felt like a complete mess at start but I'm enjoying at a lot now. It's like the opposite of DI in terms of pacing. DI started epic with mystery and build-up and ended with "wow, it was nothing". Here it starts making you feel like a loser for even installing it (why am I reading these overly pretentious walls of text about some poorly drawn pokemans?) but when things start rolling and stuff starts coming together it's actually fun af. VN's B-movie equivalent at its best.

Thing that's holding me back from reading it is that people say only Vendettas route is good and the ones before suck. I heard Trinity is more balanced? Though Valentine looks like a very shitty heroine.
>>
>>17301934
The whole of Vendetta's perfectly readable if you have a thing for chuuni. Not so much otherwise.
And yeah, Trinity's more balanced in terms of quality.
Valentine's decent as far as smug onee-san female knights go, but she's nothing compared to best girl Rain, who I unironically believe to be the best Light "heroine"(not "female character", mind you).
She's like Kei if she was more approachable, more 萌え, more 燃え and not clinically retarded(though still reasonably dim at times).

It feels a little weird that all of this mystery is about a bit of vanishing chalk. Okay, later on you get to know it was actually a lot of chalk, but it's still chalk.

Regardless, game is quite different from Simulacre, but it's still alright so far. The cast seems a little better, though I'm not gonna judge before I'm done with that, as Simulacre's biggest weakness was not using its cast and having essentially filler routes. (Or alternatively a final part that was massively underwhelming with way too many mysteries left / plotholes)

I'm going to give you my basic opinion of Shumon Yuu straight up and without embellishment... he is a genius.

I generally am reluctant to call any writer a genius. I have read thousands of stories - if I include both books and VNs - and I can only name a bare dozen or so authors/writers I can honestly and unequivocally name as geniuses. Of course, this is a subjective viewpoint... but it is backed up by significant experience, lol.

Shumon Yuu is that rarest of the rare in VN writers/directors... a true artist. Most decent VN writers have a flair for some aspect of their work, whether it is characterization of a certain type or amusing narrative... but Shumon Yuu goes past that, turning entire VNs into works of art as deep and expressive as any classical piece.

I'm not talking about him pleasing me on every aspect... several of his VNs lie outside my tastes to one degree or another... but it really doesn't matter when I'm reading one of his works. It doesn't matter that I don't like a certain character or a certain plot element. When the VN is complete for the first time, I always feel like something about what I just read ripped deep into me and tore out pieces of my being I hadn't yet known existed, bringing them into the light for me to see.

I have read three VNs he wrote and two he helped plan/design. The three he wrote are undeniably kamige, with a wide appeal and a unique approach to storytelling (which differs radically with each one) and the two he helped with are first-class VNs. Chrono-belt, which is the crossover fandisc for Ayakashibito and Bullet Butlers, is such a work of genius at capturing the best of the spirit of those two games that I still get the urge to play it independently at times. Kikan Bakumatsu Ibun Last Cavalier I named VN of the Year 2015... though that isn't really saying much, considering how bad a year that was (it did have a fascinating take on the Bakumatsu era though). Tenshi no Hane o Fumanaide was my second game by this writer, and I have played it three times now... each time rediscovering what made me fall in love the first time. Kitto, Sumiwataru Asairo yori mo is a work of nakige/utsuge genius that still births new fans even today.

So why are Shumon Yuu's works primarily known only to people that are a part of the 'in' crowd of veteran untranslated VN readers in the West? It is probably because his works don't fit precisely into any of the existing/accepted genres, even if they sometimes use elements from them. You pretty much have to be an omnivorous VN reader to run across him, because it is difficult to impossible to fit any of his VNs into an archetypical aesthetic. Another reason is that he isn't very productive. In the past seventeen years, he has been involved with the production of precisely eight VNs... and he only wrote six of them. He is also an LN writer, apparently, but he can't really be said to prolific there, either. So... he tends to fall behind writers who produce something every year and jump at every chance to advertise their own greatness, lol.

He doesn't get recommended as often or as fiercely as Masada or Higashide, nor does he have the immediate impact of Akatsuki Works' writers. In fact, even I tend to forget about him (though not his VNs) for years at a time... until I read something he was involved with and begin dancing with glee once again. His works I never forget, but I frequently forget to follow him, hahaha....

Also, he is a pretty subtle writer, so most people won't pick up on everything he is trying to express in his games on the first playthrough... one of those rare VN writers who gets better as you chew him, lol.

"I love this", "this is genius", "my favorite writer and I've read thousands of books in thousands of languages", "genius", "please validate me I'm intelligent", "slurrrrp" etc. Adjectives adjectives, paragraphs of water that tell me nothing at all about the game other that you're a raging fanboy and you're seeking validation by name-dropping stuff completely irrelevant to actually telling us what the game is about and why you liked it, not some
>I always feel like something about what I just read ripped deep into me and tore out pieces of my being
holy shit.

Tell us what exactly you liked about the game. Be succinct, use adjectives sparingly. Look over it and think: would I want to buy this game based on this review, if it were written by somebody else, or would I rather smash this guy's head with something heavy for wasting 5 minutes of my time with pointless drivel?

One day, I have decided to read Linda Hutcheon’s A Theory of Parody: The Teachings of Twentieth-Century Art Forms. I picked this book because I thought it may help me understand Dies Irae better and possibly inspire me back to writing a post. Of course, that post — but this book and various others that follow after including Mimesis, Yoru wa Mijikashi Aruke yo Otome, and Sakura no Uta had reinvented the way I see art.

A Theory of Parody, in particular, had taught me the concept of intertextuality — the relation between texts. Parodies encode a text beforehand to forge that relationship. Dies Irae is melded with Goethe’s Faust Part 1. Our understanding of Dies and Faust is mutualist, the same way the relationship of a pilot fish and a shark is mutualist. They help and inform each other’s readings. Masada, the writer of Dies, loves using this particular quote from Faust:

Verweile doch! du bist so schön!
Linger a while — thou art so fair!
時よ止まれ、君は誰よりも美しいから

There are various interpretations he uses to fulfill Dies‘s parodic/mutualist relationship to Faust. Everyone knows the protagonist of Dies has the ability to stop time and that’s one use. Another involves his relationship with Marie in her route. But in the holistic contexts of Dies and Faust, it is a warning to people that moments do not last and to linger further stops us in our tracks.

Dies Irae is written to the knights of resignation in mind, to those people who have stopped climbing because they don’t want to move forward. When we linger (or tremble in fear) at that moment that takes our attention, we will never mature. Such an attitude must disappear. We need to learn how to close the book we have finished and move on.

This mutualism made me realize that this mimesis/anti-mimesis argument was a false dichotomy. Aren’t mimesis and anti-mimesis mutualistic? Why couldn’t we say, “Life informs our understanding of art and art informs our understanding of life”?

While we're on topic, I think Shumon is kind of a mixed bag. Asairo is my favorite VN ever, but then there's TenshiHane that's a bit lackluster, has a story that's like an extended prologue for the entire game or Mikan that has a bunch of really neat ideas but is lacking in execution and Shumon's part in that game wasn't even the best one in my opinion.

TenshiHane's biggest fault in my opinion is that the true route makes all the earlier stories and the characters' struggles completely pointless while ending on when things finally start getting interesting, as no matter what happens Lucifer kills Metatron anyways since one of his students is always guaranteed to win and become Mu. He himself is a typical dindunuffin wrong "antagonist" who doesn't even try to do anything that needs stopping, fuck even in the true route when the cadre goes to face him he intentionally loses and says he was planning on ending things this way regardless of whether they came to him or not. His death also conveniently saves the protagonist from the latter's deadly sin too, or at least from the burden of holding both Lust and Rage and slowly dying as a result. Then it ends on him saying the death of Metatron will signal the other yet unrevealed angels who are no doubt going to start making their moves, and Metatron's death also causes a massive change in the game's world with both miracles and magic becoming commonplace occurrence and not just thing on the school islands. It all makes you question what was the point of the entire game.

Also another personal complaint about the game holding back the punches I expected it to have. While I found the seven deadly sins thing itself clever, I think the game falls into typical pitfall of inability of making main heroines too unlikable for the audience, and their deadly sins manifest in the most casual and inoffensive ways possible. The protagonist, despite supposedly holding two deadly sins only has his Lust manifest for convenient H-scenes. Even supposedly ruthless Trockenheit's behavior gets backpedaled with her not actually killing anyone when she puts her plan in motion.

Wasn't there something about Shumon announcing working on a new game anyways some time ago? Any word on what company? Even though I didn't like TenshiHane that much I'd love to see a sequel for it since the ending, while not an outright cliffhanger, set up a handful of hooks as if they were originally planning a sequel or something.

Posted this in the last thread but got no responses so I'll try here again I guess.

I like the other Rances I played but could never get into Sengokus gameplay when I tried it a few years back. I found it too complicated and the game didn't really give a tutorial of any kind so I quit a few hours in. Should I try again? What's making me reconsider it is the fact that it's the highest rated title in the series and I kind of want to see what the Rance that people think better than 03/VI is like.

I had this gripe with Hatsuyuki Sakura. The game had zero reason to lock the true route, since most of that shit had little to nothing to do with the overall story. The game could have been like 10x better if, instead of half-assing the backstory in the true route, they built it up over the routes where fuck-all happened and fleshed out the world more. I felt as if the writer could have made the game a lot better, since there were a lot of scenes that I found pretty compelling, but he was held back for some reason. Makes me wonder if it was because of studio interference or something. Or maybe I'm just overrating the guy.

At least in this case, anyone who is smart plays the correct order anyway. If its the other way around you have to suffer through routes you don't want to do unless you just get a full save or something.
>>
>>17303592
The gameplay actually isn't complicated. It seems like a strategy game but it doesn't have clear cause-effect to minmax on, you're supposed to just try stuff and do whatever you want. The game is quite forgiving, your waifu can die but you'll struggle to lose.

There are some people who do minmax it and try to find optimal runs, but this involves memorizing events and figuring out mechanics the devs didn't intend for people to know. But aside from speedruns it's more of a roleplaying game with strategy makeup.

I realize people here don't like harems.
But this is why I want harem ends so I don't have to pick and all girls are happy.
Or have an open end where the protagonist doesn't pick and all girls are happy.

It's like asking what parent you like the most or which of your children you don't want.
I'd rather have things continue with an open end or pick a harem end. Sure I'd want a relationship with one of the girls but not if it makes another sad.

So, that comic pisses me off fiercely. I duel majored in college and got a degree in English and Earth Science. Took longer to graduate but I have a passion for both and being able to write and communicate my thoughts is invaluable in the sciences.

Let me tell you something, NOBODY is going to pull the wool over the eyes of an expert in literary criticism. If you don't believe me go ahead and try. Head down to your local university and start up a bullshit conversation with a professor, see how well it goes.

It's just another joke that English is unnecessary, easy, and stupid and that people who take English as a major are just too dumb for anything else. Hahaha, very funny. Meanwhile I can tell you with absolute certainty that nobody will pay attention to you if you don't know how to write and 95% of every scientist I've ever met can't write worth shit and their papers are forgotten and ignored. Okay I haven't finished this yet but I consider it one of my favourite VNs now if not my favourite.

I just wish there were more blood pumping or shocking twists so I can call it my favorite.
I love the heroines especially Yurigi and Kukuri, the story, the MC, the music, the art. Some of the CGs aren't that great though. I'm also not really interesting in these card games as much. Tobakumokushirokukaiji got me hooked though, but not this.
Also I really really wish this girl had a route she's so lewd, she's begging for the D. I wish she'd mount and ride the mc and while making fun of him for liking it like the dog he is.

>Sure I'd want a relationship with one of the girls but not if it makes another sad.

Welcome to a world where you'll be forever alone.
Maybe you should read one of that author's works. I don't think Kamimaho is that great, but it nicely illustrated a few points that would help you. Including that no matter WHAT you do, you WILL hurt someone in some way anyway. So, in this case, if it'd make some girl sad to not get into a relationship with her, you'd still make her sad if you never choose. (That includes no girlfriend or harem. Because yes, harem is also just not choosing)
>>
>>17306029
>Because yes, harem is also just not choosing)
Boku ga tomodachi had my favourite resolution for this, jsut the guy getting caught cheating 5-way and doomed to being forever alone for wasting all the heroines he was given.
>>

You can always ask for something you feel like reading that isn't 'highschool comedy with cute girls'.
>>
>>17306029
>harem is also just not choosing
Do you love your mum or do you love your dad?
Why not love both?
Choosing more than one doesn't diminish what you feel about them if you were to pick them individually.

I want all the girls, if I pick one another is sad if they liked the mc.
I don't play a VN just to pick a single girl and then stop playing, I want to experience it all but at the same time don't want them to be sad. I'd want them all to be happy. You might say it's not real happiness or give some other reason, entirely.
To avoid heartbreak, I'd rather have things continue with no relationship or an ending where everybody is happy in a harem but if somehow dating a single girl makes there no heartbreak, I'd be fine with that too.
Still that's my opinion and you have yours.

>>17306037
Cheating is another issue entirely.
>>
>>17306070

I'm pretty sure we had that already.

Choosing means making the girl the most important person in "your" life. You can't do that with more than one.
They want to be the ONLY one. The special one. Just like you want to be to them.

Family is a very very different thing. And even then, boys are either mommies boy or papa's boy. Not both. You won't love your parents equally. That's an ideal that's pretty much not happening. The only thing that can happen is, that you don't really love any of them too much. However with romance that's not a thing. Or at least it shouldn't be.
>>
>>17306070
>or an ending where everybody is happy in a harem
Those are so fake, it's really hard to pretend he loves them equally after going through actual routes.
>>
>>17306080
You can love people equally or similarly, have two or more best friends and so-on.
Even then it's fiction you can make love between a plant and a watering can stronger than any human relationship.

>>
>>17306100
In real life most straight men would want multiple women but would have problems. In this case you love multiple women and can end up with them all. You fulfill your desire for love and they're all happy.

>Bopth of those are alien concepts, feelings, human feelings, is someone anyone can relate to.
You still relate to a degree like how somebody might be attracted to a 10000 year old android loli or even an anime character.
Despite being freaked out by giant eyes or might not even want one in real life.
Your relationship to this character imitates a real life relationship one, that's how you're not repulsed and feel a connection.
Basically by being attracted to a cartoon you are imitating a real life attraction to real person.

Anyway I said my opinion on the matter.
>>
>>17306128

Do you really think these 10/10 girls in eroge fall for beta males.
Do you really think there's such a thing as true love?
It's fiction, I don't see what's so difficult to understand.

You might say these girls are crazy for sharing a guy the same way I can say all eroge girls have daddy issues and go out with the ugliest shits to rebel.
>>
>>17306157
I mean at this point you might as well say tsunderes and the people they date are psychopaths.
Stoic girls have autism and people who date them are the same people who take advantage of the mentally handicapped.
Blood related couples or non-blood related people who grew up together that become couples are mentally insane and their love is fake as they confuse family relations for love between spouses.
Genki girls are children who can't keep calm and are hyperactive, anybody who dates them is secretly a pedophile for being attracted to children qualities.

And the list goes on until every trope is broken

However there's a different between people loving School of Athens and Malevich's Black Square.
One is something people can immediately say wow even if they know no context while the other is 'look at my contrarian dick'.

Most people do the later trying too hard while the former is highly regarded when is comes to writing. Really great writers can combine the two.

Ok now I'm pissed, now I'm goddamned fucking PISSED AS HELL. Apparently you can't win with Sora AT ALL. The only way to 'win' with her is to include her on her sister's route. You never get to have sex with Sora, you must always have her in a 3 way with her sister or you instantly lose.

I know I'll take heat for this but I do not like tomboys. I have never liked tomboys, I will never like tomboys. I skipped Hana's route entirely because I wanted to get to Sora's. Forcing me to not only clear the route but also include a character I do not like in order to win with a main heroine is frustrating. Not only that but you're never allowed to have sex with Sora because according to the protagonist 'her pussy is too small to use'. So 80% of her scenes on her 'own route' she just lies there while you fuck her sister. You only get to have sex with her in an epilogue 2 years later. Did they chicken out thinking she was too young after putting her in? What was even the point of including her character then? Goddamn it, I want to burn something down.

All the enjoyment I had from this game is gone.

>I wanted to try Asairo but somebody told me it was long and boring and tried hard to be 'artsy'.
Asairo is anything but long mate, so yeah I guess you should take that someone's opinion with a grain of salt. Even if you don't agree with some of the themes I found all the character likeable and once the real deal bits hit it's a wild ride all around. If by artsy you're thinking of something along the lines of Saihate no IMA that has some really non-standard stuff, infodumps, long and slow-paced main story that's not to everybody's liking there's really nothing like that in Asairo and it's actually really accessible.

Asairo was my first Shumon game as well and I only later went to check out Mikan. Like I said earlier Mikan has a handful of neat ideas, but the execution is quite a bit lacking and the game itself also has plenty of predictable cliches even its main story, not to mention the system is fucked: skip only unread text function doesn't work, the true endings require shitton of flags and there's only a handful of save slots. It's certainly different but I don't think the good parts compensate the somewhat boring and predictable parts enough, nor do I think it's representative of Shumon's better games Asairo and Itsusora.

Also speaking about stuff in general, many people seem to hold mistaken preconceptions about several widely liked games and that they're somehow going for 2deep4u artsy fartsy appeal and are only enjoyable in that mindset when in truth they're only or also top tier entertainment. I originally avoided Muramasa years ago because some pretentious people were writing up "oh this is so deep and artsy" reviews and I thought it was only going to be appreciable for those kinds of people or required "prepping" with the writer's earlier works first, but it was actually a fantastic game overall. Same thing with Shumon, you don't need to "prime" yourself for his games first, people just recommend the handful same because they're considered his best.

>>
>>17307199
What exactly do you think the numbers 1 and 2 stand for? They're basically two halves of one complete game: the former has the first three routes, while the latter has the remaining three routes. Also I personally liked the first one better anyways since by Dive 2 the repetition really starts to grind one's gears.

Install them *both* then launch Dive 2, the game should notice that Dive 1 is also installed and ask whether you want to merge the games. Click yes and you can play the routes of both games through Dive 2 (it's enforced order and makes you play through Dive 1's routes first). Make sure to patch Dive 2 as well.
>>
>>17307240

Don't worry, you aren't starting Baldr with the first game if you play Dive. And you probably don't want to start with the first game either.

>As already mentioned this is a sequel, but the writers have tried to keep references to the previous work to a reasonable level to cater to new viewers. A lot of the background and world-building from the prequel is repeated to some extent in Trinity, but the amount of detail doesn't feel like an overwhelming info dump throughout.

That sounds rather different.

I'm not gonna judge here, as there's never a clear "you absolutely have to" kind of thing, but let's just put it like that: These games are sold. Alienating everybody new is never a good thing. Even the just mentioned Baldr Sky Dive 2 has stuff in it, that's mostly for completely new players, and that's the second part of one game, rather than a sequel. (and usually disliked by everybody reading the game "normally")
A lot of times it can be nice to know the prequel(s), sometimes it can be annoying to have JUST read the prequel (because of recycling for new players), but very rarely is it really necessary to read.

>>
>>17307435
There's absolutely no reason to skip it in this case anyways, it's not like it's a prequel from 1990 versus a modern game nor are the ratings for the games too different (both are above 80 on egs). They're both new, both chuuni, same staff and if you don't like one you probably won't like the other either (and if you happen to like the first one, great, now you can continue with the sequel rather than doing some weird confusing going back). Honestly these questions are usually very dumb. Just don't bother with a series if you for some weird reasons don't even want to try the first game.
>>
>>17307522

There are always differences, and as far as I've heard about the game, the protagonists are rather different, for example. While fore me there's no reason to not at least try the trial of the first one (in fact it looks more interesting to me than the second one), if I wanted to get into the series, I'd not say that there's absolutely no reason for ignoring the first at first. A whole different main-cast can change a lot.

Usually it's more interesting to look at it the other way around. How much does the sequel destroy the first one if you read it first? Because if it spoils the major plot-points in the first hour, then going with the sequel first is essentially equal to never playing the first one. Otherwise you can always go back. For example it's totally fine to play Ar Tonelico 2 without 1, although you'll miss some references and whatnot. But going back to 1 from 2 is a rather problematic thing. Same goes for 3 -> 2.

Is there a way to force yourself to like a VN? For example, I really want to like Yuzusoft VNs because their art is very good. However, I can never really get into their games much since I find it very boring.
>>

Turn off your brain and appreciate the cute. It also helps to have them going on auto mode on a second monitor while you mindlessly grind in some mmo or something.

>>17311009
They aren't good and you are better off reading nukige instead considering how generic their art is.
>>
Okay I keep reading Suisou Ginka and I LOVE the characters, art and the interaction so much.
Like more than any VN I've ever read.

I just wish the gambling and card stuff wasn't as big a part in the story, it's not really that interesting.
The story is pretty great too but the pacing feels kinda off and it's kinda hard to follow given how it's broken up and things slowly fit together.

Still I'm so glad I read this.

How many chapters are?
I'm on 5 or 6.
Are there any more VNs with characters like these or have a good of an interaction like this? How is kaminoue compared to this?

First I choose which theme/scene that I want to see in a VN, then I open vndb or other similar sites with tags to find the VN that has that theme/scene that I want, or ask anons here. Then I pray if that VN is available online.

Most of the time, those VNs don't fulfill my expectation because of reasons like the theme is not played the way I want, the scene that I want is too short compared to the long-ass buildup before it, etc. But when VN does fulfill my expectation, it feels really good that I can justify the effort of slogging through several VNs just for it. there's 10-12 chapters, can't remember which.

paper magicians has the same kind of interactions and characters (roughly) but feels a bit slower since the plot isn't nearly as dramatic as istoria. you might still enjoy it a lot though if you really like istoria's characters.

A short nukige is the first time in a long time I've seen an incest game make sense. Guy's daughter is acting cold toward her family. He uses a new aromatherapy candle his company has developed to try and bring out her true inner feelings.

Basically he gets her drunk. It's not difficult to believe such drugs exist because they already do. After 3 days of the drug in her system she begs him to fuck her already and he does because he's under the affect of the candle too. Actually believable.

You reminded me about Saimin Yuugi. I didn't end up playing a lot of it probably because something else got released and I'm not familiar with hypnosis nukige in general, but I'm recalling its beginning to have had quite a bit of preparation parts and stuff explaining shit about hypnosis rather than just random convenient full-blown hypnosis device or magic and dicking from the word go. The protagonist himself is a jokester who wants to create his own magic show so he settles for training hypnosis and tries to rope a girl whose route you choose into helping him. F.ex. he gets the kuudere classmate willingly into working with him through drawing out her own curiosity about the subject, and then things start escalating rather slowly. I think there's even early bad ends if you pick choices that are too overt and break the hypnosis.

I'm not obviously expert on the subject and don't know how ridiculous the later game gets, but the initial presentation at least seemed to be surprisingly believable.

How much connections there'll end up being nobody knows yet, but so far the references are along the lines of "same universe". Also not all things are clear. For example Tokihate uses certain backgrounds from Natsu no iro no Nostalgia (and a bgm or two as well.. I think), though I don't think it takes place at the exact same place.. saving money or is there more to it? Who knows. It's not like the game is otherwise low budget.

As for creepy, Kure generally goes into that direction, though you'll have to fight against some eroge conventions. Tokihate literally throws the needed ero and "date" into the middle of the routes in a very "I have to include this..." way. But really, if you like it or not just depends.

So Natsu no Iro no Nostalgia is a mostly relatively normal game with a bit of mystery and some somewhat fucked up things, that aren't too much the focus. It's not really what you want to read if you want horror. But it started the new direction that Kure went.
>>
>>17318477
Cool, thanks. Honestly I was gonna try Natsu at some point anyway because the sister looks lovely, though I'd already figured it was a normal romance + hint of supernatural game. Plus I love that sort of hints and references between games, even if it leads nowhere I enjoy the speculation.

I personally hate self inserts and generic nice guys who don't act mad at all and always forgive.

Chronobox was great. Most of what I have to say has been mentioned already in past threads - the depth and attention to detail, the high production values especially visually, the strong denpa/horror atmosphere, and how fantastic the last few routes are. And the large amount of sex, a lot of which is pretty boring. It's pretty clearly one of the greatest VNs of the past few years, and it's very refreshing to see this kind of original story that breaks the standard tropes and generic structure of modern VNs. Hopefully Chronobox's success gives other companies the confidence they need to experiment a little more and make something less "safe".

It reminds me a lot of Subahibi. In particular there's a strong parallel between Kabane's bullying and Zakuro's, both are stories about a girl who was driven to suicide by bullies and the revenge taken on those bullies by people who loved them. And you have the multiple personalities and the consequential holes in memories and unreliable narration. Even (my interpretation of) the final thematic conclusion is similar, Subahibi was about abandoning fantasy worlds and trying your hardest to face reality >>15594318 while Chronobox ends with Nayuta abandoning the real world for his dream heaven with his one true love, while questioning if this is really true happiness.

Glad you liked it, I was starting to feel like the crazy one after a bunch of people on here were canning it. Probably because of the deluge of sex, but then again most people loved Harukuru and that starts with a similar onslaught of porn so who knows.

As the other anon said, check out the true end. It's a pain in the ass to get (you have to see every scene in the game, go back and see all those times where you get cut off after like two out of five choices) and it's not very long but it's probably a lot more your speed. Personally I liked the regular ending better, the MC's "fuck this shit, plug me back in" reaction felt a lot more natural to me.

But the real question is, who was best girl? Imaginary ones included.

Yes I did, although I don't think it changes the thematic implications of the other end.

>>17319885
I don't think it's comparable with Harukuru's porn since that was actually really well written, much better than most porn in other VNs. The level of humour and character development poured into those was amazing. Some of Chronobox's scenes are also pretty good, especially later on, but a lot of them are just boring and repetitive.

I liked both endings, the regular ending was overall stronger but that last line of the true ending the game finishes on was pretty powerful. And yeah it was a bit annoying having to skip through the entire game, might be a good idea to leave a save at every set of choices if you're about to play this.

Best girl, I liked Niwaka a lot early on, she was really cute and fun. Kujiki had some pretty amazing scenes, would definitely have liked to see more of him rambling about eroge design. Out of the later main characters I liked all 5 of them, normally I like my violent yanderes to have those cold black dead eyes but the dark shading underneath the eyes was really good too. I guess my favourite was Urana's gift she was literally sex.

>>17319885
>but then again most people loved Harukuru and that starts with a similar onslaught of porn so who knows.
Harukurus porn part is only like 25% of the game and once you break through it it's all real deal. For Chronobox the Sol/H is closer to 80% and it never leaves. Also consider the fact that CB is almost 400kb shorter than Harukuru and has twice the amount of H scenes. Nowhere near comparable.
>>
>>17319856

I'm still not sure how anyone could consider the game horror or denpa. Maybe 10 minutes of it qualify as horror, and those are spoiled by the author not exactly making a secret of what's happening, so it's more gore + guro than anything else.
As for denpa.. I don't think I saw a single thing that gave a denpa feeling. It's heavy on amnesia and some characters have another side they are hiding, but denpa is a something else. It can't really be denpa anyway, given what the twist turns a good 80% of the game into, unless it'd plot-hole. (though as far as I'm concerned it was alright. Heck, as much as I criticized some of its stuff, like some ero and gore writing, if you consider the twist it's actually possible the author did write it like that deliberately. A young virgin without a penis won't exactly know the most about sex...)
>>
>>17319947
>400kb shorter

That's not true. I actually measured it and it's about 1.2mb unique text. Trials add another ~150kb, though a part of that is repeated in the main game. So it should be ~1.3mb. Like Harukuru if I recall it right.
>>
>>17319972
You're off. The main game is 1017kb and the trials are 129kb (excluded these). This is straight from the script so I guess you miscounted manually. Harukuru is about 1.4mb.

I'm not sure why you're lumping these together, I thought the SoL in Chronobox was pretty good. The everyday scenes of hanging out with friends and stuff were very comfy and enjoyable.

>>17319952
Well, from the definition of denpa on vndb
>Denpa games are a subgenre of horror eroge, popularised by the 1996 Leaf game 'Shizuku' which also lent the genre its name. The typical model is a horror story where the catalyst for the events that occur are based on familiar people acting in unfamiliar, yet seemingly orchestrated ways. Stories where the world seems to have gone mad; and the protagonist is not necessarily an exception.
I think Chronobox fulfils this definition, it definitely has familiar people acting in strange and unexpected ways.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm not far into the game, so I can't really give my judgement whether it's good or not now. There are hints that dropped several times that something is wrong with MC's past, maybe it'll be revealed later.

Oh, and this loli start hogging the screentime from the childhood friend.
>>
>>17320062
>it definitely has familiar people acting in strange and unexpected ways.

It doesn't. That's part of why I'm wondering. Characters are fairly consistent in the game, though a few of them hide another side of them.
And the last part of the game doesn't fit either, because at that point you already know what's going on.
This isn't like for example Higurashi, where characters suddenly act VERY differently and you have no idea what the heck is going on. In Chronobox you learn that characters may not be just what they seem to be at first glance, but that other side of them is something that completely belongs to them and is always there. They just don't always show it.

>>17320018

There should not be such huge errors. Keep in mind that it's supposed to be s-jis. The trials feature a good 78k characters together. (I just double checked) That's ~150kb sjis and not 129. Harukuru is 1.35mb sjis.
>>
Okay things have gotten pretty heavy, I don't how to feel about things so far with her.

With the kidnapping and how how the two girls act like this only because of trauma, how the mc caused Sayo's dad's death, and how Sayo loves him but hates C.A.
The whole part with her coming up to the mc and saying what she did right after he lost all that money. It feels like stab in the back since he's working to pay her back.
I mean I'd be worried if he was going to commit sucide like her dad. I wouldn't go say that to his face.

Still she's so adorable.
I also don't get the mindset of working your entire life off to somebody for saving your life. I mean I get being grateful but MC and Akari betraying is going too far.

Nope, 66548. 521122 for the main game.

General question
Is falling for somebody who's personality changed from trauma or something dishonest and do you feel like you're are not really dating them?
Or do you feel like it's more like that the new personality is the new them so it's fine?

Like a person acts like a loli or acts stoic because of trauma and they aren't normally that. The mc falls in love and they keep that personality.
Do you feel like you aren't truly dating them or do you feel like you are dating the 'new' them?
>>
>>17320262
Do you end up hating the characters?
I mean I love the characters but feel like they might end with me hating them.

I already have mixed feelings for Akari, Ureha and now Sayo.
>>
>>17320296
Akari is borderline best girl.
Sayo is quite nice and her absolute hatred towards AC is great and understandable.
Kureha is hatefuck for several years-tier.
>>
>>17320308
But did you end up hating any of the girls?
>>
>>17320319
I'm ambivalent towards Kureha, my brain says no but my fick says yes kind of deal.
I almost ended up hating Yukariko but she's more pitiable than anything by the end and has one of the best scenes in the whole game.
>>
>>17320296
>>17320319
The game will play with your emotions a lot so your perception of the characters will oscillate quite a bit. I've seen different opinions on the characters so it depends on how you interpret their actions (for example my opinion is quite different from >>17320308). It's hard to respond more without spoiling. I don't think you'll end up hating any of them, though. I personally didn't.

Are you sure you have the whole script? Do you only have moji for example? That'd be wrong. All the dots and "speaking" tags, commas and so on are needed as well.

Now, it doesn't really matter. I've measured both chronobox and harukuru myself, with the exact same method and rules, and my harukuru count is fitting with the tlwiki count and similar to the chronobox count. So I'm fairly certain chronobox is of similar length. The only thing that could be is, that in some way there's more duplicated content than I saw. But I don't think the trials really go there, and we have a rather similar % difference with our numbers. 150+->129 and 1.2->1 which made me think of encoding. If that's not it, then you didn't count something I did count. My guess here would be all the 「, ― and … and whatnot, but who knows.
>>

>>

Same with Yuura she's getting more and more yuri and less brocon, she even said she had no interest in her brother's body and only girls and wants to date Kukuri.
I mean I get it's a joke but it's ruining her crazed brocon image.
Oh well at least there's Yurugi and Sayo. Yurugi is pretty much best girl at this point.

Still waiting for the VN where the protag helps his sister getting over being gay and helping her to get a cute girlfriend. Afterwards both help the protag getting a girlfriend.
But I guess Japan loves fucking their sister too much for that.
>>
>>17320552
That's kinda specific
>>
>>17320558

I could be less specific and say "a sister who's into girls and you get to see a little of it, as well it being good", as that would pretty much turn into what I wrote before.

Sisters would make incredibly nice "bro" type characters to help the protag out while at the same time having a bit of a different view on things thanks to them being female, but Japan just loves their incest too much for that. Not that I mind male bro characters, if they are actually bro's and not just there to be the butt of the jokes.

This game being brought up reminds me of a problem that I have with most moege. It was especially prominent in this title: the fact that the common route can be really fun and engaging, but when you get into the individual routes, the game takes a turn for the worse and becomes very boring and hard to get through.

I remember going through this game, playing Marika's route, and I was really into it, only up to the point where the confession scene happens. Afterwards, I could only go through the game at a snail's pace, taking long breaks, because it felt boring. I don't think this is a phenomenon with Hoshi Ori, because I also played Miagete Goran and I was doing Hikari's route, hit the confession scene and the same thing happened. Just couldn't get through it.

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?
>>
>>17321330
you're playing for the romantic/sexual tension. the real world equivalent is 'the thrill of the hunt', aka the idea of conquering pretty ladies and then running out on them when the deal is done because you got what you needed and now that she's yours you've 'won' and the interest is gone.

alternatively, the less bullshit armchair psychologist reason would be that individual routes often have lots of poorly written, contrived drama or make the girl's personality do a 270.

honestly though my money's on a mix of both. happens to me a lot too.
>>
>>17321330
Because the plot is usually over by then and it's just quote ichaicha and H-scenes. Though in Hoshioris case it's more like the entire game is bad like that and you just got burned out by the length.
>>
>>17321387
quota*
>>
>>17321330

There's a reason why most romance stories end after the first kiss.

People want eroge to go past that, but few authors can really do so without things getting boring. There are still challenges, but you wouldn't want them in all of your games. For example Sanoba Witch's Meguru route had a bunch of stuff regarding how dates work, where to go with the girl, how to walk and all the awkwardness that comes from "suddenly having a girlfriend", and that was fairly nice. But would you want that in all games? Of course, the alternative of just a random date isn't necessarily better, especially as way too many authors heavily shortcut those as well.

So yeah, it's normal that moege get worse after confession, but it's at least not always the case. It's also the reason why I don't even mind newer moege to have a bit more lewd at that point, because what else are they gonna do? Most of the time it's either nothing, or drama. And drama just works so incredibly badly if the whole game is happy go lucky and then for the end of a route you get some random drama pulled from somewhere.. it's just not good. Especially because the drama in moege also tends to not be good in the first place. After all it can't be anything serious, so for the most part you get some sort of misunderstanding. Like "you are moving away?!?!?" to "oh only your parents!". Melodrama is quite liked though, so it'll continue to happen. That also leads to nobody taking these things seriously anymore, making it even worse. When the standard ends up being "it's not gonna happen anyway", something went seriously wrong.
>>
>>17320894
Play Daitoshokan, I recommend it as one's first eroge.
>>
>>17321437
>When the standard ends up being "it's not gonna happen anyway", something went seriously wrong
and then when it does actually happen (a certain musical career-oriented girl comes to mind) the people rise up pitchfork in hand and march on the studio.

eroge fans are holding back eroge.
>>
>>17321489
That's generally what would happen in any game if you betrayed your audience's expectations and then doubled down on it with an epilogue that requires seeing the entire rest of the game.
>>
>>17321708
i know i know, it's a shit example since that one fails at the execution part, but the phrase "betraying your audience's expectations" doesn't usually get used with such a viciously negative connotation in any other medium.

Incest routes still have the 'but we're siblings' to create drama which is why I always like reading them still but sisters are so overused now it's gotten to where there's not even drama in fucking your own sister anymore.

"You're dating your sister? I'm so happy for you!" Ridiculous. There should ALWAYS be consequences for incest.

Speaking of I really liked the drama of the imouto route in Yome Sagashi ga Hakadorisugite Yabai because you're born with the blood of the gods.

After you start fucking your sister she loses her divine powers and it turns out that the goddess your family is descended from was in love with her brother and lost him because she was his sister. Jealous she removes her divine power from your sister and demands that unless you stop fucking her she'll erase your sister from existence and you won't stop fucking her. It ends with you contacting the spirit of her brother and him confessing to his own sister through your body and the two going off to get married in heaven leaving you and your sister alone. With your divine power still manifest the two of you start creating a world of your own where YOU are the new gods and as such the two of you have to breed as many children as possible for this new world.

Gods, I loved it.

Because normally, there are supposed to be no more conflict after the confession happens because it's the reward itself, and in your view, reward received=no more excitement=borefest=Interest plummet to oblivion. And most of the time, when conflict DO happen after the confession, it seems stupid and unnecessary, unless the game itself is story-oriented and has more plot points beyond romance.

This is the what's wrong with these kind of games: Your mentality when playing them. The main appeal of moege are heroines and interactions with them, not story. If you find those interaction boring, then it's because your expectation is still focused on the story, not the heroines. Every elements in these kind of games must increase the heroine's value in the eyes of the player; If the game's story ends up devaluing the heroine herself, then it fails to do its job as a moege even when the story is good, which is what Koikake did to its main heroine. Hell, unnecessary drama for the sake of player's attention has gone so bad, to the point where no drama is better than bad drama, which is what Hoshi Ori provides, and why it sells well. It's stupid passing a game as bad when it done well serving what it advertise from the start.

If you still can't get it, remember why people Love+ and why it sells so well despite having minimum story.

and him spending the entire common route hiding his relationships with the girls from each other was something else, it's truly the metal gear solid of moege
>>
>>17322504
Let me make myself clear since I think you are really misunderstanding me. I know moege aren't meant to be played for the story, and nowhere in the post did I claim that these games were "bad" for what they were trying to do: you're simply putting words in my mouth. I simply find the protagonists interactions with the heroines to be much more engaging before the confession scene rather than after.

To give an example, in Hoshi Ori, one of my favorite parts of Marika's route was the part leading up to the confession scene where it was very clear that the protagonist was 'love-struck', I thought the scene where they were both on the phone and prolonging the call so neither of them would have to hang up on each other was very cute. However, you don't get any of that type of interaction post confession scene. Top that off with the fact that Marika is a pretty boring character in and of herself and once you get her as a girlfriend that's made all the more clearer.

Though that's just a specific example with one game, I am pretty sure I could go through most moege that I played and explain why I found the interactions between the heroine and the protag to be more 'moe' before the confession than after.

I'd play everything on Vita if I could. Get as comfy as you like anywhere you like. You won't believe for great it is until you try it. It's like trying to get back to reading books on a PC screen after trying it on a tablet or a reader device. Another thing is there are superior VN versions that aren't on PC like Higurashi's Sui and SV's Verse of Orpheus.

I do and haven't been arrested yet. Given all the Japanese flags on my torrents I think I'm probably safe, literally millions of people torrent illegally here.
>for work reasons, moves GBs of pirated doujin material every day
What work?

No excuse to not just buy stuff there with how cheap it is for used and no shipping costs.
>>
>>17325142
It's extremely boring.
>>
>>17325146
Well, you're right.
I guess I only have the work stuff to worry about then.

>What work?
Translator for some aggregator and porn sites, plus freelance translation work.
It's enough to live comfortably but I'm scared as shit of doing it in Japan, the only country in the world to have ever arrested people over this.

just think about what she can do with those agile fingers

You have to use a foreign seedbox plus a VPN. Quite cheap.

what even is this? Apparently it was announced years ago and now they released a teaser.

Don't fall for this troll. It's really uncomfortable to play on, mini screen that's hard to see, and you are fucked if you have big hands.
>>
>>17325458
No idea but the girl looks really cute doesn't she?
>>
>>17325497

I'm not that guy, but what you are saying makes little to no sense. Thousands of people play their stuff like that. The Psp was a literal VN machine and has a worse screen and whatnot than the Vita. (at least the original Vita has a quite nice one)

Not sure if you're bad at Japanese so you have a hard time telling apart characters or have eyesight problems, either way you're not the majority.
>big hands
I have big hands too (enough for a one and a half octave stretch on a piano) and no problems on that front. Maybe you have picrelated instead?
>>
>>17325513
Well, I still think it's annoying to read text that small. And it doesn't sit well in my hands.
>>
>>17325562
Ok you got me. But I bet I'm not the only fat guy here
>>
>>17325603

Sure must be hard.

No clue.
