に in this case basically means "and". It's sometimes used like that, it's my impression that it adds a nuance of description.

For example I remember a scene in Muv Luv, when it was describing one of the luxurious meals, all the many ingredients were listed and separated by に's.

So the sentence in your image means "rare food and fishes dancing", describing how wonderful their day was or whatever.

Guys, hate to expose my ignorance, but I'm really interested in learning Japanese, so I purchased a book called "japanese from zero". I'm 11 chapters in, and while I'm enjoying it, I wish it did more to test my previously acquired knowledge. I was fairly content with my progress, but whenever I visit this board, I read about core2k, core6k, Wainikani, mining decks , etc! I'm just so confused about the best way to pursue this passion. If anybody could take the time to assist me, I'd be eternally grateful.

How kanji works? Like, if I cram their reading will I be able to read and understand text like with alphabet? That's the first thing that stops me from even consider to learn Japanese.

I hate to admit it but I actually bought this as well.
It's okay for your first steps but it's not a good book, might be okay for writing practice but other than that it's useless.
It takes a whole book for teaching Hiragana, then a whole book for Katakana, the next book is for only a handful kanji and so on.
You'll take several years to read about anything if you keep doing these books, people here tend to learn Hiragana and Katakana in under a week and learn several 1000 words a year.

Read the guide and educate yourself on why we are learning this way.

I just realized this November will mark 5 years since I started learning Japanese.

I remember one of the first sites I read when I started was AJATT, looking back those claims of 1.5 years of immersion for native fluency are ridiculous.

I hope no one here actually believes the stupid "fluent in x" or "once I'm done RTK" or "as long as I finish this core 10k decK" memes.

Well I guess it depends on how much you study. I'm also at around the 4 year mark. I'm far from fluent but I think I could pass the N1 pretty soon.

However, I've just been studying maybe 20 minutes or so on average a day. I think if you study multiple hours every day you can achieve a whole lot, in a much shorter time.

Thanks, I started reading through some of the first volume of Yotsuba and can actually understand it amazingly enough!

This is probably a stupid question, but while I could identify most of the easier kanji without needing the furigana, there were some words/vocab that I know I was exposed to through Anki previously, however I probably couldn't have identified them without the help of the furigana though.

Does this mean my Anki regiment is weak? Should I be wary of relying on furigana as a crutch?

No, it means you don't read enough. Memorizing words you don't know doesn't make you acquire them, it only makes you able to recognize them, that they have an identity. It's also no sweat if I forget a sense because I have so many others backing it up. I think it's fine. I read the entire thing once when I first review the card and then I only pick one definition on recall.

For the examples download that big batch of novels and open them in Notepad++　(Pick and choose which ones you want because the most it will open is 350 mbs at a time) and search what you want with the "Find All in All Opened Documents" function.

If a sentence doesn't make sense you can double click on it and it'll send you to where it's located so you can read the lines that come before and after for context.

If you have problems with anki then it could be the decks fault.

Try to understand cards before you actually learn it. That's a huge problem with third party decks.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to create your own decks. That way you automatically make sure you understand cards you add.

I frequently fail a mature card on the very first interval at which it is considered mature. The gap between the last young review and the first mature review is a chasm. I've considered lowering the starting ease to the point where I get one more review in before a card turns mature (assuming a correct answer at each review) but I'd need to lower it to ~150% to do so which would be crippling. Do you Anki wizards know of any other settings I can mess with to achieve my desired result, or should I just accept the failures and let the deck stabilize itself over time?

If there were some way to lower the interval for the very first review to 2 days instead of 3, that would do the trick I think. Maybe I can experiment with a lower starting ease but a higher graduating interval.

This, your goal is to memorize this stuff for life, condensing review intervals helps your correct percentage but doesn't help retention at all. Default ease is what it is because there's empirical evidence that that's what best facilitates retention.

Yee, the graphs and stuff are just fun things to look at, you shouldn't be trying to manage them. The only exception is if you're failing cards so consistently your new/learn pool is just growing indefinitely and you're not making progress, which isn't very common. If that is the case it's usually a symptom of too many new cards per day, not an issue with intervals.
