This thread is for the discussion of untranslated Japanese visual novels.

What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? What have you finished? You know the drill.
>>
How would you guys feel about an netflix like eroge game service?
You'd have a large collection of eroge from different companies, it won't suffer loading or speed issue like video games as they aren't as big or CPU heavy.
Companies would get revenue that might be lost to pirates.
And consumers get lots of eroge at cheap prices

>Play the trial to the sequal of a game I'm playing.
>Its about sluts being sluts and casual fucking, first scene they all get gang-raped and kill the attackers and treat the rape like almost nothing.
>Main girl is a loli who tells herself she doesn't like sex and stuff.

>Play the prequel its a SOL at a magic academy, things happen like a normal SOL magic school life.
>Popular girl, has friends and has a crush on her best friend.
>It's pretty decent and grew on me, I would like the game like that. Until she gets gangraped and ends up crying.
>Turns out she magical sexual powers. She uses sex to grow stronger, through sex.
>Game turns on its head. There are sleazy parts of town, she gets gang raped on the train, school students trick her into sex, her friends gets raped.
>The sweet setting they set up ultimately crumbles.

Mind you this is a game where you have magic powers and can kill things easily. Yet she doesn't fucking use it and just gets raped. I got a maxed out save file and can knock out enemies in the final world in a hit yet can't take on 4 humans who rape me on a train.
The worst part is she has a crush and she feels nervous every time she sees him and they have events together and it's so sweet and I ship them so much.

Fuck this game, I would think different if she was a slut like the sequel but she literally doesn't want it and cries.
>>
>>17126594
>>17126374
They already have something like that for JAV, I don't see why they can't have it for eroge.
>>
>your waifu is having a fight over you on some stupid shit with a girl you don't care about

JUST
>>

I can see some of the distribution platforms doing that for part of the old catalog.
>>
>>17126602

.. I .. don't think those games are meant to be taken seriously. These are fetish porn games. In this case it sounds like mindbreak among other stuff.
>>
>>17126608

If she'd be your waifu, you wouldn't be playing another route. But you are. So she isn't your waifu.
>>
>>17126618
I cannot defeat your logic.
I'm literally uninstalling the game right now.
>>
>>17126613
Yeah that's what I thought too, I expected the girl turns slutty but likes sex with her body and soon her mind. Like the loli and the other girls in the sequal.
Like a regular sex game.
I expected my dick my dick to be happy not my heart to get sad.
I wanted to see a cute girl go corrupt but she fucking cries and has a crush and the sweet setting it just set up to make things seem worse.
>>
>>17126602

>>
>>17126618
I feel I will never get over this.

>Play a game for a cute girl you like
>Finish her route
>Do another route
>See girl is sad or isn't treated as well by protagonist
>Feel sad and memories of her route come back
>Stop playing the current route
>Might do previous girl's route again
>>
>>17126635
You'll only hurt yourself

Sequel with slutty loli and titty monsters, who enjoy the sex slowly and no ruined settings

Shitty prequel which sets up cute settings and shits on itself
http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ149830

You can pretty much tell by the pictures, one pic has the girl terrified and another has the girls slightly upset.
>>
>>17126626
If she's your waifu, you wouldn't uninstall her game. You'd keep it around and go back and replay some of your favourite scenes every now and again.

Strange, I played Magical Change Alice and didn't go into it with the same expectations you had so I never felt betrayed. I'm not sure why I knew what it was going to be, maybe the context in which I found out about it or something. But I mean it does have a rape tag right there on dlsite.
>>
>>17126732
Exactly what I said. If you looked at any eroge's website, you'd see they always have a section where various tokuten merch are listed. Japanese buyers want that, they want physical games with that, not some Netflix-like rental shit. And every maker hopes people will like the girls in their games so they can make more overpriced merch with nice profit margins.
>>
>>17126756
I know, its just how they set it up.
With the sequels, The place is all shitty, and the girls don't really seem fazed by the rape, or it becomes normal for them.
However I came to grow to like Alice and how she was a person and how she had a crush on a childhood friend.
That's what got me I guess.
I played for the filthy slutty sex, but fell for her, the sex was still pretty hot but still felt let sad.
>>
>>17126764
They can easily sell that separately.
The netflix/javhd model could also work alongside it.
Some people having digital copies, and others having physical copies and with merch.
>>
>>17126343
This is so so cute, I really wish it was a better game.
>>
>>17126857

You can say that about so many games. But there actually were people genuinely liking that. Same goes for Nekopara I guess. But in that case you can at least argue that it's pretty much a nukige with hot art or whatever.

There's a difference to the organised generals which got kicked over here from /a/ by the mods. Done with 12345 in Newton as well. Too short to stand well enough on its own, feeling a bit rushed and whatnot, but too long to just be a little epilogue for a "not main heroine". Unfortunate middle-ground. Completely optional though as far as I know. So there's at least that. (plus, to be completely honest.. it doesn't make a lot of sense for the protag to go down that path. Like at all)

That said, I gotta say this game as a few really nice OST tracks. Very unfortunate there are only 11 songs in the game and those aren't really that long either. A bit of a waste.

You accidentally go back in time fucking up the timeline because Newton didn't make a particular study known to the world.

There's not much comedy but the parts that has it did made me chuckle a bit even if predictable or tropey. Sadly, I'd say this isn't really a charage or moege but more focused on story or plot . Surprisingly, there's little infodumping from what you'd expect from a science themed eroge.

And please please please, just ignore shitposting or silly questions. /jp/ generals are really good at that.
>>
>>17129640

It's a bit hard to nail down, but I'd say it's a mix of plotge and charage. There's comedy and "witty comments" come a good amount of time, but at its core it follows a story pretty consistently with very little downtime so far. Said story obviously includes science stuff but it's not just technobabble and infodumps, relatively little actually. Most of the technical stuff isn't just dumped but conveyed with dialogue between characters.
The charage part comes from characters playing a relatively big role, including their personal goals, when they clash against each other with their opinions and so on.

As far as I know, the game can be a bit hit or miss. I mostly like it so far, because it weaves its main-plot relatively well. (Which I didn't expect of a "genderbent Newton" story) But if you go with the wrong idea into this, which wouldn't be THAT weird, it may not be to your liking. I figured it's a silly moege myself as well before starting it. Luckily I quite like stories like this myself, so I don't mind that it's not one. Actually I'm quite happy. The (probably) escalator branching like Leyline and whatnot is also something I'm quite font of, although this one does it a bit differently as you have to take one "detour" I suppose.
>>
>>17129732
>Surprisingly, there's little infodumping from what you'd expect from a science themed eroge.
Oh nice, this is what I wanted to hear. I didnt start it yet since I was expecting some hard infodumping from it just like rocket game. Well to be honest I was expecting way more comedy in it too but I guess I can bear with that much. Thanks for help, though I'm not sure why did such a simple question triggered some people.

>>
>>17129970

I don't think this is a game to play a certain route. It has one story. I'm not quite sure if it's as harsh as saying "I'm playing Leyline just for Neko's route", but it goes into that kind of direction.

>>
>>17130300
I played it. Actually heroines chapters are bad, the author may as well just made this an eroge with old faceless men raping the girls, because that what he wanted the most. Also the game is filled with sudden gore scenes that doesn't' add anything and are just there, and finally the ending is a pure deus ex machina, that almost made the whole plot meangless.

Beside that the game is fine. The art and BGM are good, the game had also a lot of badass moments. I was actually surprised by the scale of the plot. The story is huge and have a strong theme of destiny, revenge and curses.

In the end I didn't regret reading this, with it's all of its fault, this was a unique title for sure. Read it if you don't have anything else.

I like them most of the time, especially if she's friendly and nice, which in most cases, they do, since osananajimi usually provides the most 'safe' relationship from all other heroines. Tsundere childhood friend automatically goes into my shit list, unless they either:
1. Have a good reason to be tsundere

>I don't know why people don't like nice and friendly girls.
Yeah pretty much that they're fairly boring to romance.
It doesn't really feel like a relationship has truly grown and developed when they're pretty much already being lovey-dovey in the beginning.
I like tsunderes because their archetype FORCES the writer to develop the character a little and show the growth. Too many friendly/nice girls have no growth beyond just suddenly being in love. Boring.
>>
>>17130949
Stop playing vanilla romance, and you'll notice that osananajimi archetypes have just as much if not even more room for growth.
>>
>>17130959
The only point is to talk about vanilla romance.
If you go into actually good things all bets are off because archetypes don't matter anymore, as every character will be unique with the depth provided to them by their talented writer who's trying.
>>
>>17130983
You say that as if personal preference is objective law. By that logic, every single archetype is an uninteresting template with development as deep as a puddle.

>I don't know why people don't like nice and friendly girls.

Because all the 'boring', 'uninteresting', 'require no effort to romance', or somewhere along these lines.
Personally, I like them because she's already has a good relationship with the MC, being nice and all, so I could just enjoy the sweet romance that the couple has without much hassle. But I feel that nice girls are more prone to stupid enforced drama since their relationship are already good from the start, like misunderstanding that could be solved in 5 minutes if the MC could just explain what really happened to her, or quarreling over trivial matter that goes out of control, or lol car crash, etc.
>>
>>17130909
I like them as long as they're not submissive. As in, they have their own character rather than just being there to get controlled by the D. Which is obviously not so easy to find in eroge. Dere girls often overlap with submissiveness as otaku like submissive girls who can cook for you, clean the house, be a good wife and stay quiet while giving you a blowjob every morning.

Again, most otaku look for this in eroge, but not me. Which is why I loved Himari from Fureraba so much, for example. Or Sora from PxC.
>>
>>17130949
>>17131003
That's how normal relationships work and even then can be done right for eroge.
You normally have an attraction to somebody and from that you get to know them, then build your realtionship.
Deredere does the attraction and infatuation for you as they already find the mc a suitable mate.

As for development that depends on the skill of the author. I personally love it when characters go deredere when they weren't once before. But with that, deredere girls getting with somebody they love is like seeing a ship finally reach the harbour after a long storm. It's something you routed for and recieved, it's satisfying.

Deredere characters tend to get more derdere to the mc while non derdere characters become more deredere when they get in a relationship. So there's your basic love development.
A good author however would find a way to incorporating them becoming more deredere into the story.
Like them becoming too clingy and later learning to calm down or have other elements in play. Like Hinata in otome domain loves the mc as he saved her from being raped and her advances are adorable but can get annoying, the author made the mc a damedameko and as such gets flustered and embarrassed instead of annoyed which is done so in a comedic fashion and done well. They progress as a couple by Hinata learning to calm down and the mc putting his foot down. That's also not the obly element in her route she basically has to deal with her chuuni ness and seeing how happy and bright she was going sad really adds to that.

I will admit once in a relationship quite a few deredere girls dont improve as much or pale in comparison to others in their game however getting to that relationship point and confession feels better than others.

I have a weird love hate relationship with Himari.
I love how she's her own person rather than some moeblob but at the same time they made her super bitchy.
Before her route she has interest in the mc, after meeting again she acts indifferent and later after finding out you weren't with Rina turns to her acting more like a childhood friend and being more friendly.

This is a personality I absolutely loved.
She acts like a good friend, somebody to talk about many things has feelings, thoughts, yet acts like a love interest and overall a girl who's also good friend.
However after confessing she turns straight out bitchy, I mean I expect her to be more like a childood friend and not really deredere or maybe see some development over the course of the route but this is far from what I expected.
Sure she's her own person but ruined the friend personality that would hang out and poke jabs at the mc into somebody who wears the pants the change, is really abrupt too.
I've never seen something like this other media other than Shara from Rune factory 3 where after marrying you becomes a nagging wife, from her flower girl/girl next door role.
Part of me considers this a new type of moe, sudden-change moe and I'm personally not fan.
Before her route I expected a deredere childhood friend and deredere love, What I got was an awesome childhood friend who isn't dere but a fun person to be around, turned super bitchy girlfriend but shows signs of her previous perssonality from time to time.
I admit deredere wasn't the best for her in her relationship part of her route but this was worse in sense.
>>
>>17131048
Possible conflict once you reach that stage is how well you can maintain the attraction and not get NTR'd by some chad among other things.
>>
>>17131070
I have a similar view and I was taken aback at first, but she gets better throughout her route as it's the main conflict of it. The freshness of such a heroine is what made me love her more than hate her. Besides it's implied that a lot of it is due to her acting embarrassed/inexperience and to the trust she had with the MC. I think they were the best couple of the four.
>>
>>17131116
Most of it was from her not wanting everybody to think that she likes mc since he's a childhood friend, rather than actual love. I mean your very relationship and how you met is through childhood friendship and she doesn't want to admit it.
I get where she's coming from but it's pretty sad and ultimately restraints their relationship.
She'd rather have her mum and others not think they were in a relationship than be a normal couple with the guy she loves. Not only that but treats him badly from it. Which still doesn't really reflect how she normally is when not in a relationship with him.
I mean she doubted going out with him. What the actual fuck. I'd prefer their friendship expanded to love not this sudden new personality.

For what's supposed to be a nakige it didn't pack nearly as strong of a punch as I hoped it would. At the very most I got a little emotional during Sakura's disappearance scene and the flashback of her having one sided conversations with Hatsuyuki as her ghost self but it didn't manage to make me shed a single tear. Shame.
The music was probably the best part about the game, but even that was sometimes so powerful that it made things a bit silly. For example, why did Freak of Nature (https://youtu.be/z0ntucIY6zU) end up as a character theme for any scene Sakuya appears in regardless of whether or not the mood warranted it? Why did they have a track(https://youtu.be/rD148NBa6Jk) that starts slow, quiet and spooky followed by something ridiculously loud and distracting (albeit good sounding) and proceed to use it in scenes which only the first part is suited for?
The above combined with a heroine that had almost no need to exist, half a dozen side character ""events"" that had no need to exist, dramatic fights that almost always end in a single anticlimactic バニッシュだ slice made the whole experience more negative than positive for me. Ah well.
Azuma's cute though. あふぅ。

Does anybody read visual novels on modern tablets/ultrabooks? Given most VNs are below 1080p and modern tablets and ultrabooks are going up to 4K or QHD I wonder if there are issues with scaling.

As for me, it was probably my fav eroge, i didn't really cry but then again a vn has yet to make me cry.
I just saw it as a sad story leading to a revenge motive.

My most hated parts are the same as yours the fight scenes especially the finally fight involving Aya made no sense.
The music and atmosphere are easily the best I've seen in an eroge.
Hatsuyukis ghost powers are so weak i don't know the point of him having them. Hes basically a nornal human who can scare people. His ghost powers did almost nothing but scare.

I'm the same. The question is whether I need a special low budget tablet just for VNs or I can play them on the upcoming Surface Pro 2017 or Eve V (both have screen resolution of 2736x1824).
>>
>>17131286
Most Japanese people have shit computers and VN's need to be playable on as many PC's as possible.
>>
>>17131286
Not like they need to be in ultra high fidelity [insert bullshit tech jargon here] resolution. They're already nice enough as it is. Only thing above that is to add anime cutscenes.
>>
>>17131292
They can just offer the ability to play it at a lower resolution

>>17131293
I don't think it's any more work to draw pictures in higher resolutions so it's not like it would be any harder to make in a higher resolution
>>
>>17131287
Well dude I've played them on a cheap ass toshiba tablet and now I use a surface pro 3 with no issues.

Games like Little Busters, rewrite or oretsubasa I played them on my vita/ps3 or I choose a better version if it's like 800x600 or very low res on PC.
>>
>>17131292
VN's by nature are low-tech. It's not about having to acclimate to hardware of their audience. Do you think VN's would still be VN's if they went full AAA game?

>>17131300
Question is what else is there to show in a higher res? It's not like these are Squenix games where the push the graphics further out of anything else. That would demand more interactivity than just reading text and picking choices to make it even worth it.
>>
>>17131304
>Question is what else is there to show in a higher res?
People like playing fullscreen
More often than not, it looks like garbage because of the resolution.
>>
>>17131304
>Question is what else is there to show in a higher res?
A better quality picture when you full screen it on a 1080p monitor. Also I've been playing Amayui and the extra resolution would let me see more of the battlefields without having to zoom out and make the character sprites really small
>>

720p is more than adequate. You really don't need much more than that.

Like I said, 1080p doesn't take any extra work so there is no reason to not make it at 1080p. Could even go higher if they wanted to
>>
The problem is that outside of Japan even very low budget devices have 1080p screens now. Regardless of graphics, you don't want to buy 10 year old device just to play VNs. You want to play VNs on what you already have. And most people have at least 1920x1080 resolution with even higher resolutions becoming more and more popular. And VNs stay at 800x600. Personally, I find text like this: >>17131302
barely readable.
>>
Would be nice having a 1080p VN but not really needed. Companies just can't be arsed to code more considering the VN demographic doesn't really have a decent PC (or a 1080 monitor actually). Reading Senran Banka in full HD is really pleasing to the eyes and my dick.

>I don't think it's any more work to draw pictures in higher resolutions
it is, and it costs more time and money to downscale it which is why upscaling 720p to 1080p was so common. what some companies that can afford it have done is downscale in the initial release and then later make an HD edition to milk their customers, some companies that have tried to increase resolutions in the past have gotten complaints and lowered resolutions for future products in response

the real irony is that japan is technologically backwards with the exception of their internet and that the average garbage mobage has higher resolution than the average VN because the platform forces it

What? You can literally do it automatically

>>17131391
This was a really interesting read. Especially what he says about the eroge industry's decline, how 20k sales used to be considered a hit and now it's just 10k sales, and how the cause is due to the rise of other faster/more accessible forms of entertainment like soshage and Youtube. Also how despite what some people say, piracy is not the cause of eroge's decline, if you stop piracy those people will just move to something else they can enjoy for free.

I guess there's not much we can do to save them except buying eroge and supporting the industry while we can.

Nothing really but I mean you see how deep and powerful the confession is, how far the guy went and how she clearly loves hims back. That she never acted like this once, or showed any sign of it even when he did weird stuff.
She'd normally just joke and push the weird stuff he did.
Then all of a sudden she does a split personality change, acts bitchy and wonders exactly what kinda guy she ended up dating. It's kinda shocking to say in the least.
It's like dating another girl entirely.

And yet there are plenty of VNs available where the company has high resolution art available.. just doesn't use it. Moonstone should be an example, as they have such art available for Nostalgia, so at least from then on they should have 1440p assets around. And I wouldn't be surprised if that's happening for a few other companies at least as well. Some even do have >720p support, even though they only have 720p windowed. Checked out the Tonakoi fandisc. Now Tonakoi was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The common route was quite alright, the beginning of the routes weren't too bad. But they all kinda fell apart towards the later stages. Ryouka probably got away the best, Rina by FAR the worst.

So what's the fandisc doing? Pretty much continuing things in the same way as the later parts of the main game's routes were. In other words, in my opinion it sucks. It pretty much lacks the good parts the original had, with its characters no longer being very capable of playing to their strength. For example I really liked Rina in the original. I remember that. The fandisc did not really make me remember why though. That's a problem.
The fandisc also adds a new character, but that was kinda pointless. I could see the character being likable, but she isn't able to stand very well on her own. She isn't given the space. It's a weird choice to do such a thing in a fd in the first place. I do respect that the sister remained a sister though... although they could've left out the 20kb "route" of hers. But I guess I was never much of a fan of the side-stories of Tonakoi, and the fandisc did not change that. But yeah, I didn't expect her to not get any lewd stuff.

Speaking of lewd, that was also messed up. The game has the "same" amount of scenes like the original, just less CG for that. (4-5 instead of 6 for 3 scenes) While that'd be ok, they also had WAY WAY too much text per CG. Normally about 10kb for one CG can be considered reasonably long already. That's also how the original game did it. Here, Ryouka has 5 CG with 135 kb of text accompanying that. (Again, original -> 6cg with 60kb) Like what the fuck. As a result, the game's text is about half "ahn~", but I doubt a lot of people really care about that. I didn't care about the ero myself in the first place, but I wouldn't be surprised if people fall asleep with that kind of "variety"... or aren't using 80% of the scene anyway.

Yeah, this fandisc wasn't for me. Hope the Daito one will be better, have that one also still around.

>>
>>17132260
>I mean i get the price tag but pirating and not supporting is kinda a slap in the face to the people who worked on it.
I support and respect developers who make quality titles but everyone else, the majority of devs? Meh. I like moege and other bad games as popcorn but I wouldn't pay for them. I would say VNs in general really suffer from not being worth their price tag, the vast majority of $90 games basically have no value except as fap fodder which makes their pricetag excessive. If the developers take that as a slap to the face they should make better games that have intrinsic value beyond fappable H-scenes.
>>
>>17132279
Yeah that's an issue for me, I don't buy it as I don't really have money but even then its far too expensive.
Moege I feel suffers more as you can't really port them that well without the sex and have them sell as well as plotge.

I really feel that moege could learn from nekopara and just release cheap $20 versions on steam for sales. I mean I can pretty much guarantee that if every moege would sell similar to nekopara, merch like dakimakura and limited editions wouldn't be an issue.

I really really want eroge prices to drop they should be $40 tops.

Objectively the first game's ero was fine, as I said.
Though yeah, I wasn't a huge fan of the ero in the first game, which is why I didn't really care much here either. I'm not too sure about Ryouka's voice actress in general, but especially in the lewd scenes it sounded rather weird to me. Rina's cgs often looked rather weird to me, let alone her scenes being.. something else. And Nagisa? She may as well not exist for me.

Actually it was Mutsuki who first came up with the idea, hence Moochan. Speaking of Mutsuki, I love her but I'm really missing Omaru, he was such a key part of the group dynamic. Having a gentle happy friend to calm everyone down was so nice. It's really making me realise what a fantastic male friend character he was.

>compressed file that you extract not a zip

ZIP is a type of a compressed file you extract to get what's inside of it.

Since ZIP files can be extracted just by Window alone, the distinction between it an a self-extracting EXE archive is meaningless.

It would matter with a RAR or 7Z archive. To extract those you need an appropriate program (WinRAR, 7-Zip). But you can also create a self-extracting RAR or 7Z, which will have the EXE extension and can be extracted without having the appropriate program.

Well, I binged and finished it. Gonna cut my review short before I sleep.

This VN is pretty easy to follow despite it being science-themed. I dislike time travels but I can't help but fall for it anyway. So if you know your time travel themes, you'll know what to expect from this. Gotta say the scenario's the strongest suit of the game as the character scenes are pretty short and hence not much time for character development. You're pretty much forced to play routes in order to get to the others and seeing how each route (except the main) contains some ideas around the story. So it sucks if you happen to have a favorite girl that's not the main or second to her.

Kinda spoilers below
It's kinda painful seeing your Yotsuko in all routes because her route is basically a bad end because the timeline is still fucked when you return to the "present" and how you turn her down every route. It feels mean just because she is your childhood friend and how she's the one who helps you most of the way.

Rabi's route is non-existent. She saves her mother and is very thankful for using your time machine so now she's on board for helping you all the way as thanks. Her route ending is actually connected to the next route which is Haru's.

Nothing significant sticked much to me for Haru's route. Basically just drama between Alice and her but the best scene was taking out that smug motherfucker Hooke off the story. I was so thankful for that. And her route also serves as a bridge to Emi's

Emi's is probably the best normal "character" route. By that, I mean normal happy end kind of route. Because her end involves the timeline being unfucked, kind of. And the MC deciding to not go home and live together with Emi . I really like her moments when she sees something.

And Alice is probably the best one. I mean, story-wise because the whole routes have been built up for her end. It's kind of a bittersweet ending because while you do end up fixing the timeline, the MC doesn't get to be together with her. And when they go back, they see their past selves going to the time machine . Typical time travel plot.

The omake section is well, pretty much an official doujin as they mentioned in the text. Just like this >>17132992

I also noticed there's a good amount of pissing scenes. No wonder because the artist for the game is the same doujin artist that does pissing books.

Overall, I'd say the whole game is okay. No brick-shitting moments but a good amount of twists. Comedy is delivered well. Game has almost little to no fillers because as soon as something happens, it goes to the next scene which makes it less boring. I enjoyed it because I went in expecting nothing but I got a bit of something at the end anyway.
>>
I'm looking for a game. It has an extremely cute girl but she has no H scenes.

If you don't want to swap around versions constantly then AA is the best, most complete version. H-scenes are very bad in it.

Ninetail opened the site for their next game, VenusBlood -BRAVE-. It looks like they're going with RPG dungeon-exploring gameplay this time. I will be sad if they get rid of their usual squad building gameplay entirely.

Their games seem really damn complicated and thus scary to me. If this ones simpler that'd be nice.

I love me some dungeon crawlers, not that I trust an eroge company to do good maps, but eh.
>>
>>17134540
Don't worry, just play on easy/normal and the games literally play themselves. The complexity is there, but ultimately it's very easy to beat them without really learning the mechanics. I was the same way as you, afraid to play them for their complexity, but it's all unnecessary. Just play one VB game on easy/normal (preferably starting Empire I think?) and watch your fears melt away.

I liked it, great variety in heroines (although only the few main ones get significant focus). It also had an ahegao on/off option, which is something every VN should have. The language isn't too hard, but with only two months behind you it'll still be hard.

So yeah I've been reading tantei7, their accents are pretty weird and theres a whole bunch of slang.
I normally read moege so it kinda took me by surprise.
The game is kinda like phoenix wright but with more dialogue and less action.
The first questioning section didn't make much sense and the correct thing to ask seemed unrelated to what she was talking about.
That said I noticed some music and graphical issues, it might just be my computer but I don't know.
There is one song that plays at the title and mission select and its like sweet sex, it's so lit.
That said the other songs aren't as good.
The artstyle doesn't play much part and the character art isn't good but at times can done pretty well.
The characters themselves are kinda general with the mc being to most interesting.
Your osnanjimi is a chibiko and not a loli so I'm kinda disappointed. She gets kinda horny at times but she's an actual idiot so there's that.
Yoy have smug french friend who everybody hates. He's kinda annoyong but I don't get the hate, he's probably evil though.
I really wish you could look over your evidence, i feel like there is a button to do so and i don't know what button it is, because otherwise i have to remember finer details about the times i receive the evidence. Like why the osanajimi got angry at the mc at x time.

Overall I'm kinda disappointed, I really felt like this had potential, I'm still not finished yet but this is my impression after an hour or so. Still I don't know if things would improve.

There's nothing wrong about asking Japanese questions here as long as it's on topic, it would however be better to ask on /djt/ or /int/'s japanese thread.

Falsefagging and complaining however ultimately ruins the thread, more so than persistent japanese questions where you can answer it and they move on or just redirect them to those threads. Still once again if it's eroge related I don't see anything wrong like talking about a confusing dialect of what a particular phrase 'really' meant in an eroge.

It's really hard to improve the system significantly after Hypno/Ragnarok, heck I feel the Ragnarok was downgrade of Hypno in some aspects and otherwise kinda blunder of a game. Since the Venus Blood series was brought up, does the entire series maintain the dark mood of the first game, or does it get more light-hearted?
>>
>>17137107
GAIA is lighthearted tongue-in-cheek, the rest not so much.
>>
>>17137107
It stays just about the same or maybe slightly lighter due to rest of the protags being less crawling on my skin depressed solely focused on revenge and protagonist side having more characters and the focus being bit different atleast from Desire onwards due to strategy gameplay, Chimera still is mostly similar in mood to orginal VB due to still being training game. And due to later games being law/chaos split games the protag will either end up being the almost decent guy with some kinky fetishes or the biggest asshole bastards around.
>>
>>17137179
>>17137198
I see, thanks. As long as it doesn't get too lighthearted, I think I'll try them out, eventually.

The crawling in my skin factor in the first one wasn't annoying IMO, since the protagonist was more about taking action than brooding.

>law/chaos
After Gears of Dragoon (and Soul Nomad on the PS2), I love titles like that.
>>
>>17137288
Even Gaia which is probably the lightest of the VBs is dark in mood so you shouldn't worry about the mood being too light as its consistent worldview in series. protags being proactive does help a lot. Also if you liked the law/chaos split of GoD you shouldn't have problems liking the later VBs as GoD1 basically had its law/chaos split to try draw some of the VB crowd to nine-tail side of their products.

WTF dude? It's game 3. 1 and 2 aren't just "prequels", they're the first two parts of a three part story. Obviously you have to read them.
>>
>>17137568
Of course. It's a mystery game trilogy, and in my opinion the second game was the best of the bunch anyways.

Make sure to unlock Ushio's "optional" epilogues in the first and second game as well, as you can miss them if you don't get some flags right despite getting the common route endings, and even though the epilogues themselves don't have that much in the way of the main plot and they're really short, the third game's main story treats both of them as canon. The side heroine routes on the other hand can be safely skipped unless you just want to read what are basically side stories for girls you personally like: they're also really short and end abruptly, don't add anything to the main plot and there's nothing else in them that gets brought up in the sequels either.

>>17137568

Better than Kamidori if you ask me.

Amayui is, for better or worse, a typical Eushully game. It has game-design decisions where you are wondering how the heck anyone could consider that fine. The interface is wonky as always. The story is shit.. or at least what I know if it. I suppose you could say that if you like generic fantasy stuff with WEAK villains that are bad/evil because they are bad/evil, that get a few random scenes every now and then so you can see them laughing and whatnot, you may enjoy this, but I have yet to enjoy a single Eushully story. Eushully is like Tales of to me in that regard. The characters CAN be nice. The story.. most likely not. So yeah, I enjoy the cast of the game way more than Kamidori's so far. The complains about how the story progresses are actually legit, but I think that's hardly important if the story is hardly important as well. Kinda like complaining about Atelier stories really. I mean who the heck is playing this for the politics and not for Fia being silly?

I do think Kamidori is heavily overrated, but in general, Eushully means that you can either arrange yourself with the weaknesses, or you can't. I don't think there's a single game of them you can simply recommend. What Amayui so far succeeds in is being a legitimately fun and tactical game. I'm playing on hard mode and already encountered the following among other things:
-A boss which is pretty much capable of killing anything aside of tanky stuff with a single ranged attack that costs it SP. Solution -> Let it burn all of its SP before going in with the mages.
-An area with enemy reinforcements spawning that are strong enough that zerging to that area had the highest priority, because otherwise too many strong ranged enemies would just spell death
-Kiting and deliberate tanking are important. Enemies always attack the closest unit to them. It NEEDS to be abused. More often than not you only have one or two characters who can tank whatever the enemy has, but those units will probably not be capable of actually killing the enemy or may need too long.
-Elements are important. VERY important.
-Items as well. You can use unlimited items during your action phase in battle which seems cheap as heck, but is actually sometimes needed.
-Nobody is Mr. (or Mrs.) Perfect. Yet. For example I do have a good physical tank who just melts against spells and especially against wind. Also no speed.

In short: I need to essentially abuse whatever I CAN abuse. So far I quite like that. The downside is that playing this game for longer sessions isn't possible for me, as it's quite taxing. Also there's still the Kamidori esque grind for material and whatnot, which I personally would've liked a bit less of. And I still think the Fire Emblem style level-ups don't fit very well with a crafting system. But yeah. So far it's fun. Probably way too long on hard though. This will easily end up with triple digits...

Huh? I think you may havea distorted perception of Japanese. Chinpo is just a generic "cock", like that's actually a good literal TL, it's the word you use when you want to say penis but be vulgar. I cannot imagine any reason why generic cock would leave a bad taste in your mouth for bad lolis. It's not a specific term or anything.

What? you're thinking of inkei. Try and say chinpo in a normal context and people will smirk.

I meant of the two, sure we can go into mara and other stuff but mean of the two chinpo sounds more proper than saying chinchin.
Chinpo sound like what an adult would say, chinchin is what a younger person would say.
I personally prefer the later for sex.

>>
What's with the recent influx of people asking language-related questions so much? Unlike some other guys here I don't really see a problem with using a texthooker for learning purposes, but why are you asking about it here? DJT exists for precisely that purpose, helping out on actual Japanese-related questions. Now, I don't want to be elitist here either, it's always good to keep humble. We're all learners here, ultimately. But if you're asking "how hard is Hanahira" or "how do I use texthooker" or "I know 7 kanji when can I read VN", just do it in DJT. It is there for a reason, and while it may be mocked by some in here there's nothing shameful about going there and using it.

Like >>17135989 mentions I don't think it's wrong to make a post here if there's some particularly puzzling language in a VN you're reading. But if it's a beginner question, save it for DJT. Use your common sense, people.

All that being said, one of these days I'd like to take a survey of this thread to get an idea of the demographics, how long people have been reading Japanese, etc. Would be some interesting data.

Dividing "reading japanese" into "seriously" and "to learn" would help. Or basically just dividing up sketchy questions into more objective ones.

I'm talking about preference I prefer girls to say chinchin it's cute and erotic, and more widely said.
I guess it doesn't feel weird but not as erotic when they say chinpo unless it's a loli who sounds like she's trying so-hard to be proper. Once again it's my preference.
>>
>>17138373
>Would be some interesting data.
I don't really see how it would be interesting. But go ahead. Personally I wish we had more people that talked about more games than just the newly released ones. I like that guy that finishes a game every week and writes up a wall of text about it, even if the games he picks kind of suck. I think an influx of newer people can only be good as long as they don't go overboard with the things you stated.
At the end of the day this thread is still way better than the ones on 2channel. Almost every single reply in the threads there is an inane one liner or random complaints, no one actually saying anything interesting about the games.
>>
>>17138443
Yeah I stopped going to 2channel after realizing it was 90% meta discussion and 9% complaints with barely any real discussion sprinkled in.
>>
>>17138398

What exactly do you mean by "seriously" there in contrast with "to learn"?
>>
>>17138496
I didn't really try hard to think of a good word, but basically "I feel like I know japanese now".
>>
>>17138496
Not him but I know Japanese so well that I barely use dictionaries when reading, even, and don't study Japanese at all because I already know it more or less. So perhaps he means people like me are reading "seriously", without the slightest intent of learning any Japanese, just of reading the novel itself.
>>
>>17138373
>What's with the recent influx of people asking language-related questions so much?
Maybe it's related to the disproportionate amount of people using le meme arrows from /v/ as if it's normal.

Speaking of puzzling language.
I want to know, I haven't finished Sakura no Uta but why do they say nature imitates art?

I mean we as humans translate art as something desirable, to help with survival, like seeing a clear river flowing helps us know of a drinkable water source and if fish are there we know that we can hunt and it's safe to drink, the lush green grass shows the land is healthy and animals that might eat grass might gather etc.
Now we might see this as a painting and say that's art because it matches ideal places that satisfy these survival instincts.
Similarly seeing a beautiful person or things that match the golden ratio among other things, we might see that as art as well, once again due to our survival instincts.
However this art is based off nature which may be completely random and we select ideal things from that randomness once again based off what we deem suitable for survival. Whether it be a beautiful spouse, a place to settle etc.

Why does nature conform to our perception of art?
Why do they say nature imitates art?
Isn't it the other way around?
One answer I could understand is if they believed in a higher being that had a concept of art and fashioned nature to that.
Another answer I could accept is abstract art or things that don't conform to the golden ratio or anything humans find desirable, and if they had special meaning like; a child cut up a hedge or flowers for an adult that's ugly but had meaning to the adult.

Still, am I just thinking too much and this is some inside thing I don't know?
I feel like it is because I'm just trying to wrap my head around why they would claim this.
>>
>>17138552
Human perception of reality, including nature, is shaped by the human perception of all conditions. Art is a representation of that perception, and our perception of nature is shaped by our perception. Thus, nature imitates art.
>>
>>17138552
The game talks about this in-depth. Maybe try reading it.
>>
>>17138558
That's just saying our perception of nature imitates art, not nature itself.
>>
>>17138568
There is no nature itself.
>>
>>17138373
Yeah I miss the threads from a few months ago where there would only be 3-5 posts a day with the occasional discussion. Those times were so comfy. Now the majority are people from /a/. oh well
>>
>>17138558
Nature doesn't imiate art, it's random and not sentient.
I repeat not sentient.
Nature does not change from pure perception alone.
We humans select select ideal conditions like I mentioned based off of survival instincts, spouses, places to live, animals to hunt etc.
Idealized conditions are what we call art.
Clear gushing rivers, lush green pastures, vivid bright flowers, crimson bathed sunsets.
This is art because we find it ideal places for survival.
Our perception doesn't change our natural survival instinct.
>>
>>17138569
Nature: the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.
Definitely something that exists as itself.
Unless you want to say that because we can only PERCEIVE it through human perception, it only EXISTS through human perception, which is silly.
>>
>>17138606
And Oscar Wilde makes the argument that 美 exists as its own thing, irrelevant to humans.
>>
>>17138552
Haven't read SnU either so this is likely to be utter wank but I'm always happy to go down the rabbit-hole of overanalyzing.

One of the things that comes to mind is that art tends to be a perfected, concentrated, idealized version of something - the scenery in a painting as more beautiful than the actual landscape, the relationship drama more succinct than real people's lives, that 2D girl you're looking at more feminine than actual girls, etc.

It makes sense to me that this would be something said by someone who did not believe in a higher power, because it seems to be saying that nature lacks that deliberate intent that makes art that ideal form of something. Nature can't reach the 'concentrated' form of something that art takes on, though it certainly tries.

Another thing that comes to mind given the day and age (and target audience) we're in is that we're almost exposed to more art than we are to nature. You have people who have known far more fictional character than they have people, or seen more paintings than they have beautiful sunsets. You have people who understand the world around them through stories they've read or shows they've watched, who compare things that happen in real life to fictional events. For them, art is the standard, and nature is the imitator. It's what comes first. Their first feel of firing a gun comes from video games, their first crush from a book, their first vacation is a movie, and so on, until the world around them is understood through the art/fiction they've experienced as opposed to the nature/reality they have.

of course it might just be the ol' "take established saying and invert it to get people's noggins joggin' because nothing forces people to think like when they think something's incorrect"

or maybe they'll shove an answer down your throat by the end of why that saying might be appropriate to the characters, I dunno
>>
>>17138615
>And Oscar Wilde makes the argument that 美 exists as its own thing, irrelevant to humans.
If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around does it make a sound?

Yes beauty exists and those sentient or even plants can distinguish it as 'ideal survival instincts'.
Sound exists on its own as it's vibration through the air, Sound isn't experiencing vibration through the air. Beauty once again is idealised locations, these may exist without humans knowing, as nature is random. It doesn't form from humans saying I want x as x is beautiful it forms on its' own.

Speaking of which; There was a plant growing in my veranda once, it grew so big I wonder why it grew as big as it did, considering I gave it very little soil for it grow. Later I found out that I had a nearby bad of soil and that was punctured one of the roots found its way inside and started spreading and growing from inside the bag.

>Yes beauty exists and those sentient or even plants can distinguish it as 'ideal survival instincts'.

Okay I get what you're saying and you may be right. For them, art is the standard, and nature is the imitator, due to factors growing up, their environment and so-on. They see nature as the imperfect version of art. That is an interesting way of looking at things.
However it seems to be more direct in saying that nature is in itself is imitating art without external factors like the environment etc.
Not like in a sense the original is over taken by the copier.

>>17138685
>>17138686
Didn't know this was a thing.
People actually believe this?
>What is found in life and nature is not what is really there, but is that which artists have taught people to find there, through art. As in an example posited by Wilde, although there has been fog in London for centuries, one notices the beauty and wonder of the fog because "poets and painters have taught the loveliness of such effects...They did not exist till Art had invented them."

Once again, artists simply played with people's desires, like singers, dancers and so-on. We find certain things appealing. Dancing isn't something in nature, yet scientists found it may be used to show flexibility and certain movements show a person ability to confused and escape prey better than others. Desirable survival instincts. Similarly I may not know the exact art but people find certain things appealing, and they used those techniques in their art of the fog to make it appealing, sure the fog itself may not be appealing on its own. But adding things to make it appealing makes it so.
To be blunt covering broccoli with creamy cheese.

I guess this is all pretentious stuff, like there is no spoon.

There's no such thing as nature in the way you're using the word, only reality. "Nature" itself is a perception of reality defined by us humans. That's to say nothing of whether SnU treats the idea in a reasonable way, I haven't read it.
>>
>>17138785
Nature is physical not perception of things if it was then yes anything can change a perception of almost anything.
It's the fact it's not that makes this a topic.
>>
>>17138798
Nature is a concept. Reality is a thing. What's natural is defined by human sensibilities and ideas. It's not objective in any way.

She isn't, they're all pretty best girl even if some are more best than others.

It's worth a read but you need to keep in mind at all times that it is a romcom through and through, even if they try their best to convince you otherwise.
>>
The way SnU discusses the idea was something like how our base sensibilities ("art") determines how we perceive the world ("nature").
And it's not like you have to agree with that idea.
It's just how one character approaches art, and it isn't the protag either.
>>
>>17138798

If something is perspective anything can change it, i repeat, anything.
You might see a plant and I might also see the same plant.
If nature is physical it's a plant, end of discussion.
If it's perception we see different things.
Your perspective might cause you to see it as a plant that dear freind gave you, so you see it with love and not just a plant, i might hate plants so through my perspective of nature i see it as hate.

Look, I've been steadily improving every game.

Leyline was such a fantastic series though. I particularly like the strong relationships between everyone, like Hime-chan and Sumi-chan, Shizuka-chan and Michiru, Kumiko and Hinae, it's one of the few series it really feels like a group of close friends rather than a harem of people swarming around the MC. And as I said before the gradually building relationship with Mooko is really well done, and Omaru is probably the single best male friend character I've ever seen in a VN.

It's true the 3rd game wasn't as good as the 2nd, but to be fair if they'd achieved that it would be an incomparable masterpiece, the 2nd game's ending was so perfect. They did have a bit of unnecessary repetition of stuff we already know and some of the magic stuff could have been foreshadowed better so its use when the time comes makes more sense, as they did to great success in the 2nd game. But it was still a really enjoyable VN.
I think I'll go and read all of Unison Shift: Blossom's games.

This is all the writing.
And Yuuki not working on Kiminago is kind of irrelevant. It is illogical to play all the games of a company due to liking one writer who doesn't even work on all their games, even if the company has good games besides those written by the one writer.

You probably need more affection.
Figure out where she is at what time, and spam visit it during that interval until she'll go on dates etc.
Should easily be able to get her to start going on dates around July or so playing "normally" without doing that though.

Can you guys suggest me some past japan themed games? I've already read ouka sabaki & sengoku koihime & chuusingura and cant find anymore other than some otome games. I'm perfectly okay with moeges & charages as well, as long as they are in the past, preferably japan.

I don't know about 鬼, but I've heard that 天狗 might have been based on Russians.

I'd actually say Gaia and Abyss can also be the the darkest in a sense.

Like, the common route is definitely more light-hearted in those games with the protagonists being friendly towards the heroines(well, as friendly as a VB protagonist can hope to be) which makes the chaos routes themselves feel more all the more depressing for it. Both Gaia and Abyss's chaos definitely made you feel worse than any other in the series imo.

But compared to the first game in the series, all the games are a lot more lighthearted since they start having some degree of "anime high-jinks" which is almost unimaginable from the first game.
