This thread is for the discussion of untranslated Japanese visual novels.

What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? What have you finished? You know the drill.

Totally forgot about the new Clochette. How is it?
>>
>>16843755
I liked pretty much all of Clochette's previous titles, but this one just feels like the text drags on forever and things move at a glacial pace, once the scene with the storm happens.
Maybe it's just the route I picked though.

Have you guys played Ai Mai Mist? I loved the hell out of that game. Guy turns into a girl and (depending on the route of course) slowly gives up ever wanting to be a boy again. It's a slow sweet process, not like 'oh, I'm a girl now, time to fuck dudes I guess'. I'm getting disappointed in every single gender change eroge I've played in the last several months and I've played Ai Mai Mist 3 times now. I just want that magic back.

I hate when deredere doesn't win.
I love deredere girls they act like actual girls, rather stoic, tsundere, overly genki and other types.
Don't get me wrong I like those types too but deredere seems more normal and I really route for them most of the time.

Deredere is probably the least realistic type. It's "idealized" to the max.

If we want to be mean, only bitches come close to real girls, but even without being mean.. let's just say: VNs that successfully show how awkward and NOT FUN it is to be around a lot of girls as the only dude get it probably the most right with how the protags of VNs usually are. (aka not machos, nor friend-zoned or gay) Most of the time VNs avoid this though... for obvious reasons.

Doubt it. I recently read Konozora by Pulltop, which has pretty good production values for a VN. It still has pretty QUALITY CG. One CG of the twins looked like it was an SD CG, but it's not supposed to be one.. so probably just not finished. (way thicker outlines and less detail but not actually SD) And some perspective stuff was just messed up completely. I even burst out laughing with one CG because it looked so BAD. It's the spoiler picture. Very slightly nsfw. (panties)

>>
>>16847356

Fits well enough with what I wrote. Take https://vndb.org/c11597 here. Sure different than (most) other "deredere" characters, and clingy fits her pretty well. Hapymaher is actually one of those games which I think dealt with the whole "having a harem" decently well, without going too far down the "this makes you feel like utter shit" train.
>>
>>16847412
That head looks like it was left in a vise for a few years.
>>
>>16847414
>>16846955
My favourite part of Hapymaher (besides Maia, obviously) was that the girls didn't really get along well and were constantly having catty little fights. I like it best when the harem is a competition.

Kinda wish there was more of that in vns. It's often either 'everyone is fine with it because they're all besties now' or else 'everything is awful and none of the other girls will ever know happiness again' and very little in between. Obviously I don't want this to be the standard but iunno, the whole daishuki senpai~ thing loses a bit of punch if they're not really willing to fight for it.
>>
>>16847480

Aside of some clashing girls in Hapymaher (i.e. Yayoi vs Keiko), they were actually really close with each other. That's in part why the protagonist suffered from it. They are not afraid to loudly talk about all his shitty and awful traits and how terrible he is with women, being an enemy to women and so on and so forth. And he has no way to really talk back, because he IS indecisive, although it's somewhat understandable. And he can't really talk back much, because the girls simply team up. If they say "jump", he jumps. No way out, aside of with things getting even messier...

Sure, the girls still try their best to get together with who they like, but they don't clash in excessive ways with each other, aside of aforementioned combinations that just don't get along well. Which is fair enough. Deep down they still care and are usually the first to slap some sense into the other one, if they go down the wrong road. At least Keiko and Yayoi quite worked like that.
>>
>>16847572
>They are not afraid to loudly talk about all his shitty and awful traits and how terrible he is with women, being an enemy to women and so on and so forth
That's probably why picking Maia bad end felt so good.

>>16847764

It's one way of "solving" things. Another is, to just.. decide. I actually liked that. Because it's not like these girls are ever actually saying anything wrong. They just nicely remind you, how "great of a situation" you are in. How absolutely awesome a harem like that is.
>>
>>16846955

>>
>>16848407

Deredere has nothing to do with girlfriends. It's an archtype that essentially means, the girl is dere all the time. Before the relationship starts, and afterwards. This was never about the "after" though. At that point many other archtypes are dere as well anyway. (tsundere, kuudere..)

All right. This is Natural Another One. I bought it from DMM about a year ago.
https://vndb.org/v5532
https://mega.nz/#!c1ABDSzb!b7NqeDSti4TgFYcn9fQEaNJaGbgr0rY5sgW_1K4VQis

It's a bondage game where the main protagonist has a fiancée. He's a teacher at a high school and one of the high school girls Minao has fallen in love with him so she confesses to him knowing he already has a fiancée. Since she's desperate he proposes to her that she become his slave. She agrees to it. From that time forward she's never allowed to wear clothing in his house (except chains and such), cooks his meals and cleans, must go to bed after him and wake up before him and always be willing to have sex. She is property.

His girlfriend Haruka has a masochist fetish and when he realizes it he turns her into a pet. He keeps them apart and even after marrying her (spoiler I guess?) secretly keeps Minao as a slave on the side. I've only unlocked 2 endings and less than 30% of the CGs.

It's from 2003. I haven't gotten it to work on anything but a Windows XP emulator. Try Virtualbox if someone else doesn't have a better idea.

Requires a crack. Someone will have to do that.

Random question, but was Nijima Yuu's reputation affected by the Koikake backlash? I'm surprised that KEY has him on their next project, since I got the impression from /jp/ that his audience had turned on him.
>>
>>16850209
No of course not
>>
>>16850209
From what I've seen on 2ch the whole "music NTR" stuff was mostly done in a joking manner and no one was genuinely mad.
>>
>>16850167
It's so, so, so boring. It lacks any sense of humour, the pacing is terrible due to each route being fuckhuge, the characters while cute don't have any interesting depth, the MC is more boring than a literal piece of cardboard... it's not very good. It's pretty much a poster child for "good art and cute girls does not equal good game". I recommend it only if you've got a mind of steel that can endure 10~15 hours of nothing happening per route to get a couple of good scenes, if you don't care about depth in characters, and if you don't care about a boring, dry experience lacking in humor or excitement.
>>
>>16850316
Is their previous work in the same vein?
>>
>>16850325
i thought Hoshi Ori was good from what I played but I ended up dropping it because it got a bit boring after the confession scene...everything before the confession scene was good though the tension between the characters was what I liked most (Marika's route)
>>
>>16850325
Yes, but I would say the lack of a mostly pointless middle school section and the addition of having a protagonist with some character to him (he wants to be an architect) makes Hoshi Ori a notably superior game. If you're going to play one, you're more likely to enjoy Hoshi Ori. However it remains really long, and still doesn't have much if any good comedy, character depth, etc etc so it's not a glowing recommendation. It's still mostly boring. If you really, really like pure love it could be your favourite game of all time, though. I myself just need something more than cute girls and 15 straight hours of "doki doki i love you".
>>
>>16850316
>>16850343
That's a shame, I'll probably just pass on this one then.
>>
Man Rain's route in Baldr Sky feels pretty long...how close am I to the end? I'm on chapter 12. A lot of cool shit is going on but I've heard that the later routes get pretty crazy.
>>
Has there ever been confirmed cases and or heavily rumored cases of plagiarizing in the eroge scene?
>>
>>16850379
Sukebe Elf literally had an H-scene directly copy/pasted from an earlier title; though it was an accident that it was left in word for word, it's easy to imagine that their intent was to slightly modify the scene rather than write an entirely new one.
>>
Do you need to complete Flyable Heart to play Kiminago? I dropped Flyable Heart roughly 5 years ago but still remembered the settings and characters.
>>
>>16850247
Are you kidding? If you're talking about bbspink the threads were a mess, both Niijima and the artist were harassed over Twitter, some Koikake advertisements in akiba got teared down, Niijima took a Twitter break of a full year and the Us:Track producer quit out of stress, which most probably meant the end of the brand.
http://us-track.tumblr.com/post/136869669326/

That said it most probably affected moege fans who didn't know Niijima beforehand, which means that previous Niijima fans are still there keeping his reputation.

The "NTRd by music" thing is a meme. I didn't play it either but the reviews summarize it as:

- Sena is a prodigy musician
- The MC is in love with her when they were kids so he confesses to her by letter but she transfers the next day due to her duties as a composer with her band and agency
- When she becomes 16, she falls into a (creative) slump. Thinking she might fix it by meeting old friends again, she moves back to her old town
- After meeting the MC again they become lovers
- After a while she recovers her creativity, and without saying anything she disappears, leaving the MC dumbfounded

Her route ends here. Then the true route starts

- Several years later, the MC is an adult by now, and a teacher
- The band Sena was working for gets dissolved and the agency ends up with a big debt
- Sena loses her job and she decides to return to her old town again
- The MC finds Sena and confronts her for using him and just disappearing
- But he still loves her and asks her to stay with him forever, to which she accepts
- They start living together
- After a while, and after thinking about the agency's debt she secretly decides to pursue her music career again
- The MC feels something is wrong and decides to propose to her; she accepts while telling him she's very happy
- After a while she disappears again, leaving a letter to the MC telling him they won't ever meet again

In other words she was just a bitch that used the MC whenever she felt emotionally unstable, twice. The "NTR'd by music" thing is a meme to describe it jokingly because she was prioritizing music all the time while she was with the MC.

Ive done Ayane's route and enjoyed it somewhat. The buildup to the confession and the past that the MC shares with her was sappy and perhaps a bit melodramatic but found it to be very cute. I really got that sort of "stupid adolescent love" vibe from it. Ayane for a lack of a better word is pleasant. Shes very devoted to the MC and you can tell she is very much in love with him. Looking back at it now the scene where the MC completely forgets who she is after her transferring to his school just to be with him must have been heartbreaking for her.

Also, I wouldve liked more time spent between her and the MC after they had hooked up. It was kind of off putting having the MC be really pushy for sex despite just going out. I remember an EGS review also talked about that.

Are you implying real girls are all selfish pieces of shit who can't communicate with their partner while using him? Because that's not the case. Moebuta have a distorted view of reality but so do you. There are many ways to make a realistic character who's not a piece of shit. Although I agree it's refreshing, it was not a sane choice to have it in this kind of game, realistic or not. Although it has good reviews in EGS so I'm assuming most people didn't care that much or they included the other routes in their judgment.
>>
>>16850772
In retrospect it is kind of cool, it's not common for an eroge to portray its heroine as a straight up manipulative, cruel person who is irredeemable. The actual experience of watching her unfold is unpleasant though, especially if you're expecting something light and romantic.

Also I love Kurasawa Moko's art. The loli character in this game is drawn by Shiratama (who just did Shugaten) and is very cute too.
>>
I like this girl from Unmei Yohou in terms of being realistic but not a piece of shit. She often says mean things because its her personality but she feels bad about it. I think that's normal. To be unable to help being a dick, but nonetheless feeling bad about hurting others.
>>
>>16851342
>especially if you're expecting something light and romantic.
That's what caused it I think, the game itself advertised itself as a pure love game so people were expecting a happy ending, so when this happened people assumed Niijima did it to troll and shit on the fans. His response, though, made it seem he actually felt bad about it so he might have genuinely tried to go for the refreshing aspect. The producer also took responsibility.

Most "good" games have at least somewhat realistic characters. Sure, these are stories, so certain things will be rather unlikely to happen (i.e. several girls falling for the same random dude without much of a character), but that's fine. It's why you read stories or play games.

Of course, things like good characterization, growth and whatnot aren't easy and nowhere near as much rewarding as it should be. Otherwise Nekopara wouldn't be the most successful VN out there. Which is also why Minori's latest title puts all effort into graphics, voices, ero.. and kinda forgot about the plot. I'm sure it'll still be successful and well received on EGS.
>>
>>16851403
>aren't easy and nowhere near as much rewarding as it should be
>puts all effort into graphics, voices, ero
This is part of why I like the trend of the good eroge writers going over to LNs. I prefer the VN medium but if the industry doesn't foster precious talent and is fine with hiring random hacks as writers...
>>
>>16851520
>if the industry doesn't foster precious talent and is fine with hiring random hacks as writers...

That has nothing to do with the industry and everything to do with the consumers. If people are not buying your definition of "good" eroge, you can't blame companies for making the kinds games people are actually buying.

Make sure you got Ushio's epilogue that takes place after the common route, the one with the H-scene since you can miss it if you didn't get proper flags. Same goes for the second game. Third game's main story treats both epilogues as canon.

The first game was great, can't wait to get the trilogy and console only scenes on vita later this month. Leyline and Sen no Hatou get more hate than they deserve, I never understood why people disparaged them.
>>
>>16851586
I said writers, not games. You can make games with mainstream appeal but still have them be incredible if you have a talented writer. Plenty of good games sell well too, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. So yes, you can blame companies because most of them are passionless and lazy, and it shows in their products.
>>
>>16851864
>Leyline and Sen no Hatou get more hate than they deserve, I never understood why people disparaged them.
I've never actually seen people disparage Leyline apart from saying that the first game isn't as good as the second and third one, or some people dropping the series because of the first game's side heroine routes and the main story ending on a sequel hook. I myself also found the first game merely pretty decent, but was completely blown away by the second one, bar the optional side heroine routes of course.
>>
>>16851874
Good writing does not automatically mean good sales is what I am trying to say. The consumers have moved the market to where it is. If people stopped buying games with bad writing, companies would stop making them.
>>

Sen no Hatou was just overly hyped, people were expecting another Eustia and while Senmomo was great compared to any ordinary VN, it was definitely nothing next to the incomparably amazing masterpiece that Eustia was. The higher the expectation, the greater the letdown.
>>
http://www.hibiki-site.com/niiduma_lc/vr_event.html
>>
>>16852043
I don't think the gap between the two is that big honestly. A lot of people have nostalgia for Eustia because of the amazing chapter 5 but the parts before that aren't very impressive either. Both games are just quick, entertaining popcorn reads for the most part.
>>
>>16852043
i was expecting good comedy like daito, but in the fantasy setting and get MUH NIPPON STRONG with generic anime villains and very bland characters
>Senmomo was great compared to any ordinary VN
you right, comparing to some bad moege senmomo is true masterpiece.
>>
>>16851907
It's true that companies are merely responding to incentives, but it's also true that people like the guy you're responding to are, by complaining about bad writing and blaming the companies, affecting their incentives.
>>
>>16852073
You didn't like the themes of cultural conflict and hostile immigration? I thought the story had meaningful parallels with America's invasion of the middle east. Hiding their real intentions under the self righteous guise of dethroning tyrants. The brain washing that happens every morning where the republic tell the imperials why they were saved from tyranny by the albright was right out of the American play book.

Aspects of cultural warfare, and extreme blind patriotism, the albright republic wont even eat the same food as the empire and vice versa. The whole tension is unsustainable, the only way to resolve the tension is with cultural integration. Which why the half republic/imperial children are the most level headed.

There is a lot there if you are willing to read.
>>
>>16852244
I don't mean to sound as if I'm assuming things about you. But those themes are so overdone in Japanese media they just make me want to bang my head against the wall. Shallow symbolism of American aggression in a pro-yamatodamashii work? Fuuuck, give it a rest already Japan.
>>
>>16852164
And what I am saying is the writing would get better if people started buying games with good writing and stopped buying games with bad writing. Don't blame the company for following the money. Blame the consumer for being ok with bad writing.
>>
>>16852244
As said I like how the themes came together in the end and can appreciate it in hindsight. But while playing? Chapter 1 is a dumb scooby doo hunt, chapter 2 is badly executed character drama + the villain was goofy as heck, chapter 3 first half was solely playing chess etc. I like the game but it's no flawed masterpiece and I feel the comparisons are overly critical of senmomo while ignoring all of Eustias flaws. They're roughly the same level imo, with Eustia being slightly ahead because of the ending.
>>
>>16852260
You are assuming things about me, I hate those people that think an eroge is deep just because it mentions Kant or Nietzsche. However, the themes I mentioned are not undertones of the story they are front and center stage in the plot and the characters openly discuss them. I also only mentioned it because the other guy said there was nothing there when he clearly did not pay attention the novel if he honestly thinks that. Sorry if I came off as pretentious.
>>
>>16852279
Ah ok, then we pretty much agree, sorry about that. I just don't think it's popcorn.
>>
>>16852285
Nah you didn't. I would say I was thinking you may have been possibly coming across as potentially not very well read with Japanese literature. Because the themes you mentioned have been done to death to the point of me finding the mere idea of reading a story about them boring, much less actually reading it. It's been how many decades since LOGH?

Dragging and dropping the .exe file on DenchiUnwrap and renaming the resulting .bin to .exe was enough to get this cracked. >>16851355
The thing that makes this trollish is that she pulls the same shit twice. Ok you want to do something new and fresh, have your main heroine turn out to be an asshole at the end of her route. Fine, whatever.

But then to go the extra mile and add an unlockable epiloge / true route where the same thing happens again? Yeah, at that point you're just making fun of your readers, fuck him.
>>
>>16852761
Have you even read the game? I doubt it's 1:1 the same, don't rely on angry internet reviews too much.
>>
>>16852761
it's not even an acceptable 'can't be helped' reason either. she wouldn't even talk to him about it? maybe sit him down and have a good long talk about considering options and their future? nope, she says yes let's get married and then runs off into the night like a one-night-stand dude afraid of commitment.

gah. if you don't make your drama believeable then all you get is reader rage. i know most stories only exist *because* the characters did not make the right decisions, but this is ridiculous. 'but wait, why didn't they just ____' is the fastest way to sink any enjoyment of a story.

>>
>>16854063
Well your are going to be disappointed with the vita, hacked vitas constantly crash because a lot of the games were dumped using the broken leaked vitamin tools instead of maidump because too many people could not wait. So unless you are ok saving a lot it's not worth it. Also there are bugs that randomly delete your save files. I love my vita but there really is no point is piracy on the vita because you are just getting a worse product as none of the games have ero content. Also only games pre 3.60 are available to pirate. Leaving out a lot of exclusive vns like konosuba, recolove and rezero. Also if you were going to pirate why not pirate the pc version? If portability is your thing a windows tablet or just using a streaming app on your phone would be better. The only reason to own a vita for vns is if you are looking to collect and buy. The cases are nice and the games are cheap and accessible.

I just kinda route for that kind of girl who's into a guy, it's so adorable.

I guess she's more down to earth and normal, like a normal girl who crushes on a guy. Compared to some 100year old loli sadistic loli, or a tsunedere who can't express herself and hits a guy she likes.
This feels more genuine and honest, like you know she likes him and isn't being a spaz about it and just acts girly about it.

Not saying I don't like the other types but it's like comparing a regular girl in love that you see irl, to something in movies.

well to be fair every time he tried to talk to her after that she usually responded with 'stop talking to me, pretend like you're a cool kid now'.

funny you say that, istoria is giving me similar vibes in that it feels like it maybe shouldn't have been a vn. on the other hand a large part of what makes the drama work is the player choice + only one girl can 'win' situation which is really only possible in a vn.

it's an odd sort of setup/situation and i'd love for an interview with the writer to figure out what the fuck is going through their head. it's like they hate the idea of writing for vns but yet understand how best to exploit the medium. but they've done more than half a dozen so far with clear improvements over each one so i guess there's gotta be some love there?

Takahama(main guy behind Silverio) is Masada's right hand man and self-proclaimed number 1 fanboy. Before working on Silverio, he spent his entire VN career doing uncredited writing for Masada's works and routes for light's B team works, so you'd do well to expect some likeness to DI.
However, I'd say that doesn't go beyond style, structure and references. There's a great difference between what they actually focus on. While Masada is a "陽" kind of guy, Takahama is definitely more "陰".

If that's hard to understand, consider a generic scenario where a guy goes on a mission to save his people, comes out successful, but happens to kill a significant number of innocents while doing so.
Masada would present him as a hero who saved his people despite being burdened by guilt.
Takahama would present him as a villain for killing innocents. His goals be damned.

I'm sure there are many series which do such things better, but I still think Silverio is a must read for anyone with a thing for chuuni.

They are amazing in the final two chapters they are like if Phoenix Wright went overboard and kept going.
>>
>>16855982

Low price and low budget. Also it's not even that low price here. I think if you want the 18+ version here you'd need to pay 20 bucks. That's half (or even more) than many full-price works cost. No idea how expensive it was in Japan.

That said, the sales-difference is big enough that it's not unlikely Nekopara is more successful than any other VN out there. (And seeing how Phoenix Wright was mentioned.. that's not even a VN if you ask me. Way too much gameplay, and unlike Danganronpa or 999 no longer novel sections either.. at least not in the first one. Most I saw was like 20 textboxes before I had some kind of stuff to do. My biggest issue with it actually.)

What's your favourite type of girl?

I like girls that aren't mean like non-tsunderes, and non-comically violent.

Like deredere, imouto, genki and osanajimis. They can be joking and friendly and poke fun but nothing brash, mean or violent.

I like girls that blush and act cute, overall girly.

I have not read it, I was not big on the art when someone recommended it to me.. I'll check it out though. As for どし黒, the girls all the girls are missing a trait or two to be perfect for me. I played Force and Bullet before Sky, so I had no problem playing on Normal on first run. If Sky is hard for you, you'll probably have even more troubles with Heart since it's a lot more challenging.
>>
>>16859680

I'm past considering Baldr Sky's gameplay good. Way too many enemies are just annoying, in a bad way, and 80% of the weapons are simply useless. Add to that the way you unlock weapons and shit, and you got yourself a nice combination of REALLY NOT FUN. Just go very easy, and use cheat-engine to give yourself enough "money". (pretty easy to do) If you still want to unlock weapons, very easy can be actually pretty hard and annoying, because you'll have to use a lot of stuff which is super bad, and can't really go much about "good combos". Otherwise, just use what's good and don't care too much.
Speaking about combos, that was also very well done. So you set-up a nice combo that uses just the right heat? Joke's on you, heat use goes down for weapons, so soon it's not a nice combo anymore~

I don't know. The controls are fine, the game SEEMS super fun at first, but I feel they really fucked it up with the weapon and enemy design as well as the way you unlock stuff. I had way more fun with Material Brave's gameplay, which was actually a blast to play on high difficulty, although it did have a weak endgame. If you did all quests you'd end up rather OP. Kinda normal I suppose.. but still.

That's the part where you add more weapons to the combo and make it even nicer than it was before, you dim motherfucker.
You sound like someone whose only level 3 weapons are the ones you started with.
>>
>>16860411

You have limited space. When I set-up stuff, I have all slots full and have their use in one or more different combos. So I either have the combos get worse, or I have to break up everything and make a whole new set-up. Which will once again turn to shit for all the wrong reasons.

Also, try not to be so offensive. That just makes it sound like you had no fun with the game and somehow need to let it out on people who try to have fun with the game. Like >>16860379 does.

>>16860450

>So I either have the combos get worse, or I have to break up everything and make a whole new set-up. Which will once again turn to shit for all the wrong reasons.
So you just have no patience for the constant loop between "weapon grinding" and "combo designing", eh?
Fair, but it sure as hell ain't the game's fault.
>>
>>16860379
>all those plebs in this thread playing Baldr on either easy or normal
To be fair it depends on which entry in the series. VH on Force is still easy, but on Heart it's just suicide to do it in some fights without proper equipment (like those battle with elite enemies in tight space), plus it's a lot more efficient to play on Hard or even Normal if you are doing weapon grinding.
>>
>>16860607
I found force to be the hardest between force sky and heart, it actually took me a lot of tries to beat the final battle to get all of the endings. Although that's probably because I didn't really take the time to get invested into the system, since it wasn't as polished/fun. On the other hand, I spent whole days finding combos in heart and doing VH runs.
>>
>>16860465

I'm actually not. But just because I'm able to play it on hard-mode, it doesn't mean that it's fun. I actually never even had a game-over on hard-mode. Because the game isn't hard. At most it's annoying, as you just have to abuse a few tools you have. You know, when enemies don't stagger with melee, gotta stay back and abuse those ranged weapons. It's cheap. And not particularly fun. It doesn't matter if I do so for 10 seconds or 30.

>>16860525

The problem is, that there's way too much grind. (and most weapons simply suck) That IS the game's fault. I like to experiment around, so I tried a bunch of abilities, but some things are just so obviously inferior to other options you have. And then you have to grind them to unlock completely unrelated abilities that could be good or suck. Are people really liking this system?

I feel that a good parallel to this game is Star Ocean 3. There you have Stamina limiting your combos and it's a bit different with weak vs. strong attacks, but it's roughly comparable. You also have moves that improve as you use them. However, it's only that move. If you don't like it, don't use it. That's fine. Can't do that in Baldr Sky. The way you unlock new weapons in combination with really limited money is pretty ass. Honestly, I'd be totally fine with the game if the weapon unlocking wouldn't require you to use random shit you'd never use otherwise or there at least being an easy way to grind stuff. But, alas, Baldr Sky has no easy grinding. You always have to skip through the story which takes a while. The "skip to next choice/battle setup" also doesn't work during any "mecha" segment.

Not when fully leveled, which takes us back to the "weapon grind" point and you simply not liking it.

I agree that the unlock system of Sky isn't the best and Heart improves it by tying weapons into specific families (instead of a stricter unlock tree) where using one of them unlocks new ones in the same family + new weapon families altogether, so you're only "forced" to use one weapon in the family and can ignore others if you don't like them.

However I like unlocking and improving weapons itself as a thing as it encourages experimentation and changing up your playstyle once in a while rather than just finding a combo that works for you and then using only it for the rest of the game.

Also, I don't really remember any particular enemies being completely immune to stagger, at most they were resistant to it. Been a while since I played Sky, but at least Heart had enemies with a separate knockback meter (laid over their HP bar) that filled during their certain moves or otherwise when in defensive stance in case of heavier foes and when they set it up you just opted to attack another enemy instead. Only times I found myself relying on ranged weapons abuse was at the start of Sky when I wasn't yet familiar familiar with the game (and dual SMG + chain gun was so god damn powerful) or one particular battle in Mao's route in Heart where every single enemy in that battle had rapid fire ranged weapons with combo interrupting attacks.

In general I found both games' Hard difficulty just right, lower ones were way too easy and Very Hard was plain rape mode.
>>
>>16860056

As far as I've played (a bit past the common route) pretty average. The first chapter is pretty terrible for a first chapter, but overall the characters are fine, it's not too boring although nothing happens and so far didn't overstay its welcome. I doubt I'll be reading much more than one route though, and this is really more "filler" than anything else.

The only really special thing is that you can play it relatively nicely fullscreen on a 1080p screen. It's 4/3 aspect-ratio, but the resolution is 1280x960. Meaning black bars to the left and right, but it doesn't need to get upscaled a lot. Music is a bit above average as well.

I just did not find her entertaining, I'm sure there are people that would enjoy her, sadly I am not one of them. Asking me why I did not like her is like asking a person why they find chocolate more delicious than strawberry.
>>
>>16862302
Try one of the other heroines. I agree she is the most boring, her archtype doesn't do it for me (I also think her design is unattractive though)

Seine was really weird, and her personality was quite surprising in a good way in my opinion but I couldn't really be arsed to finish her or Wako's route either in the end. I personally loved Hime and Hinata though, so it's most likely personal tastes like you said. And Aya in the first game is great if you want to see a loner gamer protagonist paired with a loner gamer heroine.

I don't even mind them. Most of the time I'm looking at the girls' faces than at their breasts, unless it's an actual sex scene.
>>
>>16862333
I don't have a point, I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, this is not an argument. I am admitting to being in the wrong, I want to like the games. However, I am not going participate in a discourse of a Cation game as if it were fine art, especially when I have not finished one.

What were the last five VNs you've read? vndb acc with finished dates preferably, so you can't just make them up on the spot.
>>
Since Amayui Castle Meister's trial is out, mind if any of the anons that has played it share their impressions if it seems good or not?

Seeing the last few Eushully games made me feel disappointed
>>
>>16862513
>vndb acc with finished dates preferably,
Not everyone that reads vns is as autistic as that. Asking for someone's vndb is as autistic as asking for someone's MAL account because you want to check on their anime watching habits. Also, do a lot of people here bother with vndb when they can just go to egs?

Not even that guy btw.
>>
>>16862550
I prefer VNDB over EGS because the CSS is far less cancerous and sorting things to my liking is far more convenient. Plus images on EGS always link back to DMM or whatever whereas VNDB hosts them itself.
>>
>>16862550
I'm asking this one person in particular because he made a bold statement and I am 99% sure he is a hypocrite who can't back it up.

Stop using buzzwords by the way, your habits from other places you're visiting are leaking. vndb is a handy tool that takes no time to setup or maintain.
>>
>>16862563
Yea I love the trait sorting in vndb, it's very intuitive. The discussion there is pretty garbage for new games. The scores are pretty worthless, there are too many accounts with only 3-5 votes, all 10/10 or 1/10.
>>
>>16862550

EGS is great to get information about a specific VN, but bad for finding new stuff. Vndb is good for finding new stuff, but kinda bad about finding information about these.
In other words, unless you know what to look up, vndb is the way to go. Once you have some names, you'd go to EGS.

Vndb really has some mighty tags and handles characters better than EGS as well. Comes in handy.
>>
>>16862593
I go to EGS for information about specific VNs when I'm interested in them in particular, but for recording the games I play and general usage, VNDB is pretty much perfect.
>>
>>16862550
I can't use EGS because I'm not aware of a free proxy that works for it. I've never had to figure one out when I can get everything on western sites and vndb is good enough.

Does Omaera not work for you?

EGS has reviews which is the main reason to use it. Like you see a guy who wrote a 5000 word review about a game and you agree with him on everything, then you can check out what other games he rates highly etc. This is how I find pretty much all my games to play and am rarely disappointed. Often times people have hidden gems in their 80-100 score range that has never even been mentioned here once.
>>
>>16862691
That works, thanks. I remember it didn't work when when I tried to see what evenicle's length is so I assumed it's regionlocked.

I haven't read this myself but I saw someone give

a 100 on EGS with a rave review, yet I've never heard anyone talk about it in the west. It even has a 4 score on VNDB with two votes despite an 80 on EGS.
>>
>>16863108
Guy who has played 200+ games has this https://vndb.org/v11645 as his one and only 100 rating. The games after that in the 90 range are stuff like Ima, Kagerou, Gunjou etc. so you know he has good taste.
>>
>>16863145
>>16863147
That's the egs user Moogy follow the most by the way
>>
>>16863145
VNDB votes suffer from a small sample size for most untranslated/old works, not surprising that a bunch of works have 1-2 mediocre ratings and become mostly ignored
>>
>>16863108
>>16863145
Oh yeah, and I played pic related after seeing rave reviews on EGS despite it having literally 1 vote on VNDB, and it was pretty funny, a good read. EGS is definitely a good way to find kamige overlooked by the west I think.

Not really, vns critics are a real niche circle jerk of elitist and I don't know a single person that gets paid to do it, so it's difficult to even call them professionals. Doesn't moogy still live with his mom? Last time I was on the vn discord he said he didn't even have a job.

It's quite good for me.
I can't tell much about the story since it's still on trial, but the gameplay-wise, it's kinda like mixing both Kamidori and Madou Koukaku.

Since this will require a lot of farming materials, I'm sure it was a chore for most people.

Eushully definitely put some effort on the worldmap too. There is movement for the clouds and random birds group. Not to mention the map is quite vast, which we will able to satisfy our lust to explore it later on.

Oh also, the Live2D in the battle is interesting.
In the end of trial, you will fight a blue winged-spirit ikemen, I love the way he moving his wing as the battle goes.

For the craftable costumes, I can't tell yet, I doubt they will show it to us on trial anyway.

As for the routes, I got a vibe that this black swordwoman might get a route too.
But since this is about Self-proclaimed "Goddess of Marriage", it might only have one route as the true route.

So I'm playing WA2, about to finish IC, it's a really good game so far, I have watched the anime before, but the game takes things slower and focus a bit more on the characters.
I like Kazusa too, her voice acting seems top-notch too.

>>
>>16863779
I'm guessing it might turn out like Kamidori with the routes and also have a true ending or something. Though I doubt it will have Madou tier splitting with choices for almost every single event and very specific requirements to enter them.

Hopefully this means more development and events for the few heroines and a slightly better plot than your average meister title.
>>
>>16864518
It's easily one of the best titles I've read. Closing chapter moves a tad slower pace, but I would say all the side routes are worth doing rather than just skipping through to coda. The drama in coda though, it's so so good. I really cant think of another title that made me feel the way it did.
>>
Considering the conversation in this thread about people playing "certified kamige", maybe it's not the most appropriate time to ask this, but I'm wondering.
Where do you even pick up the Japanese versions of some of these works, especially if it's been translated?
I want to try Yume Miru Kusuri but nothing on nyaa, links are all dead on AS. Can't into baidu and I don't want to play the English version (which incidentally has two dozen seeders).

Am I missing something here? These are big titles, not obscure stuff, even if they're old.
It's like this for Swan Song, Kara no Shoujo, Kana Imouto to name a few others.

How is dies irae?
I heard it is a battle ballad, what is that?

I'm probably imagining it more grand than it is.
I'm probably thinking of something like two ideologies or beliefs fighting against another, speaking and debating while fighting.

Like a positive form of Nihilism of things going to end so to enjoy things as they are.
Fighting a person who support a negative form of Nihilism of everything going to end so they want to destroy it all as there is no point.

Their fight is metaphoric for both things ending but depending on a view it can be positive or negative. Their battle may never end as things continue to keep being destroyed and thing keep being born. Or perhaps their fight cannot determine a winner so they win by changing the other's point of view.

DI at its best is when it's full chuuni mode. It does that well. Good music and character design, excellent voice acting. Writing is passable, it works at creating the mood but is basically a lot of words about nothing.

As for 'philosophical' or w/e it's basically middle school level, nothing ever gets explored in any depth. World building is p. basic - a lot of set-up hinting at something bigger that is revealed to be extremely banal. The true route end was just "LOL, that it?"

I like chuuni so I got my fill out of it, though.

It has its own kind of humor. I don't really like one of the main-girls, so it's not super great for me, but it's certainly.. something else? Right now the blonde learned that people just go to school and learn to become company slaves and felt that's a very dumb idea. So she ordered a few billion robots for the whole world, so nobody has to work anymore. No the company slaves are revolting so they can work again...... it's that kind of style.

But yeah, if you'd compare it to something, then maybe something like Chuusotsu a little bit in some ways at least? Arara's voice actress is also in this one as the twintail girl. So that may also be a bit of a reason it makes me think like that.

it's a remake of the original game with ZERO and VERITA, the prequels, being released about a decade after that original game.
>>
>>16868754

As far as I've heard it's called "Battle Goddess Episode 5" for a reason and one should start with Zero and go from there, if one doesn't want to bother with the really old stuff.. or something like that.
>>
>>16868754
forgot to add that MEMORIA is mostly a separate story but the details and explanations on how Celica came to be as he is (from ZERO) as well as why he is currently weakened (from VERITA) are left out and just mentioned. whether you're ok with a story that has those left out is up to you.
>>

>>16868863
Guess I missed the boat, not going to read 4 50+ hour games just because I think a few girls are cute in game 5. Thanks for the explanation, might just skip to 5 for the girls.
>>
>>16868930

It's not really 4 50+ hours, as between Zero and Memoria there is only one game released (Verita). For the rest you could read like some synopsis or whatever, depending on how much you care past Zero. There's actually a "novelized" version of the previous games that came out with Verita. (Which actually does include Zero as well) It's free as well. Or was at least. Still, Zero is usually considered the best way to start into the series now.

That said, if you are only after a few cute girls, there's no need to read any other works. You generally never REALLY need to do so anyway. No matter what some hardcore fans say.

Not in the new thread though because I know everyone will just bully me anyway, just like Megu and Satoko. No sympathy here. But I have to say it somewhere. Right now, at least, I hate Subahibi. This whole route makes me feel like shit.

>Stop being a fucking pussy.
>You're an idiot.

All I get is insults but that doesn't change my feelings. All I know is that reading Subahibi right now makes me feel horrible and want to kill myself. Seeing the mental torture of bullying is torturous to me too. It's awful. It's terrible. But I keep hanging on because of the magic I saw in Down The Rabbit Hole. How could one work go from being so inspiring to so horrific? And I want to just Ctrl through it but I can't, because there are nuggets of plot hidden in the despair. I'll keep pushing on. God knows I hardly have it in me but I'll hold on to the belief that there's redemption at the end of the tunnel.
