With 60+ top of the fleet I was able to go 甲甲甲甲丙 in my second event and since then it's 甲 only. Don't worry, take your time and use current experience to improve. It's all about knowledge, dedication and time. Not bad at all. Even with some rough starts, experimenting with compositions and setups, and some occasionally nasty RNG, it only took 50k in fuel (about half of that for everything else) to finish and farm everything.

No, land bases act independently from the fleet. Whatever damage the LBAS managed to do is what the fleet faces, so more fighter power equals more planes shot down and an easier time for AACI to wipe the planes out and get AS.

I'm not sure how useful dupe DDs are. I feel like there's plenty of daihatsu carriers, and you have 3 ducks for AA cut-in already. You can use also use Maya-sama in place of one if needed. You can get by with any regular DDs on early event maps, and if you're lucky they might be used for routing or end up with a useful kai ni. I guess with dupes you can front line with more confidence, but I don't think you really should do it with only 100 slots.

I personally made it through 4 locks in summer 2015 without dupes. I think I didn't keep enough CVLs around, but I managed.
