I'm also in the middle of making a mask based off a paper craft model. I've covered it in filler to smoothen it out and I'm currently in the process of spraying layers of primer to find uneven spots. I've got the materials to make a mould, but I'm still far away from an actual mask.

I think Cici's issue is that he's not being challenged. All his clients are just members of his community, who think that he's the last word in western kigu and what they're getting from him is as good as they're going to get. But he makes actual custom masks, from scratch. Clients can demand better quality from him if they were more discerning. So if he had customers that weren't just feeding his ego, and maybe teamed up with someone who can sculpt better than him, someone might actually start taking his work seriously.

Cici is a nasccist. All of his "community members aka cicibots are feeding his ego. And i doubt he would give up on sculpting and let somebody else do it. (And those are not full customs as the shell model is always the same)

Pointy Miku is one of his reusable models, and he's got a couple others, but there's also a lot he made from scratch, which explains why his quality fluctuates all over the place. But "cicibots" don't expect much of him. When he gets a customer who does, he'll probably wake up and get some help to produce better work and take advantage of what he has.

Why are kigu masks always so off-putting (mainly the mouth). I've seen plenty of figures and statues that successfully depict a character in 3d, so why don't people make masks that look more like figma faces or something?
