Just as a point, it appears that Jazz Funk vol.5 was from C86 ( http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm24068670 ), and had just avoided upload until now for some reason. There's really no need for that hostility, anon. I'm disappointed in you, and what people like you are doing to the internet.

v0 preserves just as much information as 320, but compresses it more intelligently. (v0 IS a transparent format, after all.) The reason why people often use 320 is that it's the default setting in many old programs and because people see other people do it and don't know any better.

I've been working with CD rips and audio formats for many years. Please be open to new information, look up the difference yourself, and then try to be more amicable.

Yeah go on give me advice.
You do realize that you don't know who encoded the 320k or v0 files with what kind of encoder? You see, you don't know whether it's a trash encode when you see it on the net. FLAC on the other hand is always save. I prefer to download FLACs, and sometimes I batch encode them to a format of my choice with a setting of my choice. That way I never have to wonder whether the MP3 files I download are actually a crappy 128kbs encode.

>>
>>14550819
Maybe you're just trolling. Regardless, for the sake of someone new to audio reading this and understanding what's going on, I'll give you a serious reply.

>FLAC on the other hand is always save
People transcode lossy formats to FLAC and it happens much more often than you think. (Why? Typically to fool people that don't know much about audio into thinking it's the superior release and getting more downloads/epeen.)

If you're going to tell me you analyze the spectrogram of every single thing you download to make sure it's lossless, why not just do the same for v0 downloads?
>>
>>14550819
>You do realize that you don't know who encoded the 320k or v0 files with what kind of encoder? You see, you don't know whether it's a trash encode when you see it on the net. FLAC on the other hand is always save.
the concept of a "trash encode" applies no less to lossless than it does to lossy encoding. more importantly, you have to worry about retards who convert mp3's back to FLAC and call it lossless. not sure if you were here for previous events, but that kind of transcoding has been a real problem with the morons from DS before.
>>
>>14550846
Whatever, your ears can't tell the difference.
Compatibility >>>> slight size advantage and imperceivable increase in quality
>>
>>14550833
I am also interested in this.
>>
I'm a guy who can't hear the difference between any of these things. What does that mean?
>>
>>14550850
Example for you: http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=741899
>>14550854
>Compatibility
FLAC is extremely well supported even by hardware music players; and you can convert lossless into *literally* anything that your hardware/software supports, at whatever quality you want, and know 100% that it's not a transcode. Learning how to identify transcoding artefacts takes a lot of effort; learning how to identify general lossy compression artefacts to check for a fake FLAC rip consists of comparing to example images.
>>
>>14550740
v0 is still 320kbps max. And that's not the point I'm arguing about. Both are fine, but the size reduction of v0 is negligible, so I don't care of it's v0 or regular 320
>>
>>14550865
>Compatibility
he was quoting the guy talking about opus, not flac. if you're going with lossy, might as well use the one that is supported by approximately everything.
>>
>>14550875
Opus is royalty free and the reference decoder is permissively licensed, so adoption is skyrocketing. Old mp3 players, sure, you'll want mp3 for those, but the DACs in REALLY old ones are very bad so you might as well transcode to 160k-ish variable mp3 since quality is already forfeit.

Lossless is always the best archival/upload, though.
>>
>>14550875
AAC should be the clear choice. Opus still needs time to get compatibility, but even YouTube is using it now.
>>
>>14550892
Why would you ever /store/ audio in AAC, other than encoding it to put it on a portable apple product?
>>
>>14550851
>>14550865
Yep, C84 (I think?) was particularly bad iirc, there were at least 5 uploads to DS that were complete trash (looked like 128k or worse), I ended up looking at spectrograms for hours and being sad.

>>14550870
Fair enough. Personally, I prefer v0 because (in my experience and opinion) people that transcode to v0 tend to know/care more about their music and thus are more likely to have things properly tagged, etc. Definitely not a hard rule, and I have no problems with using 320 if other formats aren't available.

(you have to buy links, your username shows up under a list, a person with a lot of uploads/time spent on site is unlikely to leak, so a newish member like someone here will most likely be discovered easily. or something like this)
>>
>>14551369
Dl the album, wait like 1 to 12 hours then upload it to mega and post it here if it's not posted yet.
>>
>>14551381
That's highly unlikely to work.
>>
>>14551381
1-12 hours is nothing, it might not even receive any downloads in that time.
Most album only get like 15-30 downloads each, even super popular ones usually only get it the low to mid hundreds, and that's over months.
They can also compare the download list if you leak more than one album, which makes it really easy to tell who's doing it.

>>
>>14551395
Never heard of it, but I'm sure it's good. If I can transcode it into anything of my liking (FLAC, ALAC, WAV, MP3, etc) then it's of value to me.
>>
>>14551384
You can make it look like a different release that came from someone else.

Just reencode the flac with max compression and add/fix some tags or something and remove anything that makes it look like it came from the chinese site.
>>
>>14551404
This would probably be your best bet, however some even add a malformed length to the wav or similar, so when it gets transcoded, the outputted file also has that malformed/wrong length.
>>
>>14551404
Yeah I'm sure there's plenty of day 0 rips of the same shitty albums from 1 event on the Internet.

It might work for like, 2 or 3 albums at most, but it's pretty easy to figure it out even if they wait a few weeks, and they don't necessarily have to be 100% sure it's even the same rip, if it looks suspicious they will probably ban you and have you make an appeal, instead of potentially let you leak more stuff.

>>
>>14552004
You knew it would happen if you bought something popular. If you were trying to buy some obscure shit that no one will rip there's probably only low double digit numbers of albums from the hundreds released at Comiket that won't in some form. Whether you can find it on the Internet is another story, but nearly everything is ripped.
>>
>>14551991
Why would people bother uploading stuff there if the community is so small?

And just how hard is getting download credits there if so few people download stuff?
>>
>>14552094
"Download credits" are piss easy to get. You get 1 credit per 10mb for selfrips. The harder ones are where there are other restrictions on the download, other than the cost, such as on the disc score, or even on the love score.
Those are harder to get, but most people only put a price and maybe a reply restriction on their uploads.
>>
>>14552094
uh i upload stuff there because some of the rips i want are there and no where else

I, for one, use megatools. With links as have been posted in this thread, downloading just spits out a bunch of files in the current directory. If people aren't going to bundle up albums before posting them, please at least post links to something one directory above the files. That way when I download 20 albums, I don't end up with ~100 tracks jumbled in one directory.
>>
>>14552634
>blaming the uploader because of your shitty software
>>
>>14552634
Or just use JDownloader, which puts every Mega link that has multiple files into a separate folder.
>>
>>14552637
This is just about conventions. Courteous creators of torrents ensure that all the files of the torrent are packaged together. You don't blame your torrent program when the creator of the torrent doesn't organize the files correctly. It's been accepted practice on the internet for longer than the web has existed to provide files in a categorized manner. In fact, not doing so has been considered malicious (see ‘tarbombing’).

Guys, why are you all shamelessly uploading those artists' beautiful music? They worked so hard on making that music so that they could sell it at Comiket for the value that it's worth, and you're just taking that value away from them. If you really cared about these artists, then you would let other people support them as well instead of just letting others selfishly steal from them.
>>
>>14555002
If we don't pirate it nobody is going to archive it. Period.

>>
>>14555002
That would be fine an well, *if it was actually easy to buy them*. Not everyone here lives in Japan.
>>
>>14555048
But if you upload it to the internet people from Japan could steal from those uploads just as easily, which takes away potential buyers. You're only hurting the artist by uploading their music, no matter where you live.
>>
>>14555002
If they really cared about making a profit then they would stop selling just 500 copies on comiket. Most of these stuff is fucking impossible to get without spending entirely too much money. More artists should make their albums available on the internet, and I would buy from my favorite circles.

>>
>>14555240
I asked once a Yuuhei Satellite on Twitter, why they can't offer it on iTunes ect, and it seems its quite hard to put music based of other music like this onto Digital Distribution platforms. And there are the fees as well. Not sure how high, but I bet Apple and other services want a fee for having it in their store (beside the usual cut they get per sale)
>>
>>14555296
bandcamp is a very good alternative though
>>
>>14555240

>>
>>14555346
I would think maybe giving Comiket staff a copy of your work to be hosted via Comiket music website would work. Make it a condition for selling at the convention? Though I imagine they may nix it if enough of the artists said No and wouldn't show up.
>>
>>14555367
Probably a misinterpretation of zun's extremely vague "The place of distribution must allow doujin materials" rule.
>>
>>14555406
It must be this because he does offer his albums in digital formats on Booth (which sells all sorts of doujin materials).

I wonder if many other groups have misinterpreted ZUN's rules.
>>
>>14555438
And there's already a bunch of Touhou albums on Bandcamp (some free, some not).

Bandcamp is very much an Indie platform (guess the groups kinda didn't think "doujin" would fall under "indie").
>>
>>14555513
There's definitely misunderstandings in the doujin community. For example, Escarmew (Casket) put a bunch of albums up on Bandcamp but he released them for free because apparently overseas sale isn't allowed.

https://caskettheband.bandcamp.com/album/7-for-free
>(DL selling of Touhou arrange works to overseas is prohibited.)

The situation would be much better if ZUN just clarified his rules.

Buying lossless is perfectly sensible.
>>
Any new FLAC rips of any albums? Or is that the haul so far for C89
>>
>>14555698
Yeah, there's like one sensible website that offers digital lossless: Bandcamp. I'd much rather have the physical CD for the other 99% of the albums. It gives me a physical product and lossless at a very reasonable price. Even on Bandcamp, there's plenty of albums that have physical releases with plenty of extras for an extra fee.

What's the DS guy doing that's so wrong? He's providing rips as fast and reliably as possible, and as long as he follows through with lossless afterwards, he's a damn model citizen. I much prefer this to dozens of "IS XYZ UP YET?" posts.

Hi cunts

I'll be able to upload flac for all these albums mid january.

I have no stable connection so I need to use free WiFi to up and doing this all on a laptop with an external DVD drive that takes multiple attempts for a clean rip, when flac rips at 2x speed it isn't worth the hassle.

i'd rather spend the time getting v0 up now rather than have nothing for two weeks like I did last time - people will probably upload flac for some anyway by then.

Plus, I don't even use flac.

I love iTunes. It's the only player with a library that has all the features I need.
I can put all my music in it, including my western stuff along with toho and so on and pick out the exact songs I feel like listening to with smart playlists.

Tried other players like foobar, but none of them had the robust library and filtering features that my mp3 collection that I've been gathering for over 15 years needs.

I've personally tried winamp, foobar, WMP, mediamonkey, and I just really enjoy Itunes. Sure it comes with bloat (which you can uninstall if youre not a dumbass) and can be slow at times, but at the end of the day it displays my very very sizable library in a very efficient way.

Tell me your gripes with itunes, anonymous. Keep in mind I hate Apple with a passion for personal reasons.

Same reason here.
Sure iTunes may not have the greatest extravaganza features like other player may have, but it's a solid and simple player for both Windows and Mac that also looks good.

Sure, if you tinker around with foobar2000 you can do all crazy stuff, even make it look like iTunes, but why would I want that if all I need iTunes already offers to me?:

Audio playback, playlists and a nice display of my albums. That's all I need, and want from a player.

I won't bother listing all my gripes with iTunes. If you listen to (and buy) Western music on it, and don't care about customization and comparability, then for all means, use iTunes.

Your claims made me think you were baiting. "Smart playlists" and an "very efficient way of displaying your library", are incredibly vague. And saying you love iTunes, yet hate Apple with a passion is a mild contradiction.

I use WMP for the same reason. It plays FLAC like an MP3 or M4A file if you install the necessary extensions that will also add cover previews in Windows Explorer and Album information. The only file format that really doesn't work is ALAC, at least on my Windows version. But I do have virtually zero ALAC files.

>>
>>14558372
Normally I don't really care about people's foobar skins, but that one looks quite pretty. What's the name, or is it a fully custom thing?
>>
>>14558372

Lmao what a shitty music taste
>>
Anyone get Compositions 5 from C89 third day? I was really looking forward to that ambient album.
>>

>>
>>14558639

>>
>>14558605
I can be patient. I dont suppose you also have Compositions 4?
>>
>>14558720
I ordered that as well, but I am even more uncertain if that will be in my hands

I am hope my proxy got a copy before they sold out.
>>
>>14557059
Yours is equally bright. Use Flux or something
>>
>>14558755
Ah, good luck then! Hope you receive them both! I contacted Hironori a few times on twitter to try to convince them to start a bandcamp.com page for their music but didnt get an answer

join the club, i just want the second track on AD:Trance 5 to be honest
>>
>>14558859
If I read the tweet correctly, he says hes getting ready to release them on bandcamp? If so that's capital news and a good start to the year. I would love for more people to get to listen to Hironori's unique music
>>
>>14558778
>Too large to download over web
So much for that.

So I'm really enjoying this Pop Culture 5 album.

What else came out this winter that is similar or as good as it?
>>
>>14559206
I really liked the Halozy album.

God bless Shibayan.
>>
>>14559115
Seconding that request
>>
>>14559225
I love it, it's such a fun track. I'll have to listen to the other album at some point.

It'd be so cool if Shibayan got back into making non-disco electronic music though.

Are we still posting skin?
>>
>>14559546
But everything after and including Magico Catastrophe has been disco, and you can't deny they're his best works.
Sure I wouldn't mind a track or two of electronic stuff but I'd rather not have another full electronic Kokoro Vibration
>>
>>14559696
GAZE IT kind of has disco vibes to it but it isn't a full-on disco track is it? I'm not trying to say that his disco music isn't good, I love it a bunch. It'd just be neat if he made more electronic music.
>>
>>14559726
Yeah, GAZE IT was awesome. I was thinking about the harsh electronic stuff from Kokoro Vibration (e.g. the first track).
>>
>>14559648
No, stop that.
I'll forgive you if you post your impressions of that new ZYTOKINE album.
>>
>>14559771
I still prefer their previous albums, or maybe I need to listen to it more again.
>>
>>14559696
But I kinda can, because ムソウマテリアライズ was't disco.

Not saying his disco's bad, it's kind of on and off. Retro Future was mostly good, Adrastea was half meh, Disco Metric was mostly good, Sedecim was ehhhh.

Would rather see a return to the old unique electro style, but a mix of the good parts of his disco with elements of what made the earlier works great (see: Gaze It) would also be welcome.

But hey, opinions.

Hope someone got the Touhou Jihen album.
