I'm playing 塔の下のエクセルキトゥス for the art and the not so boring gameplay's sake, but seriously those h-scenes became pretty annoying for my tastes.

Game has many minus point about the story / relationship developments / MC etc, but those h-scenes even surpass them. They just happens out of nowhere when you finish a dungeon without any build up, Girls just comes into MC's room > say "I'm really greatful to you so I thought I'd let you fuck me at least" even though mc did nothing > mc fucks them > end. Then another dungeon and another same shit again.

Also they not even mention shits like love, or being lovers, or having feeling for each other etc, not even a word. They just fuck, then oh ok bye see you tomorrow and thats it.

Well lets hope it changes as I play.

I'm on the common route, I haven't got onto one of the heroines route yet. Here's my opinion, it's kinda good so far but the story got a bit copied from the anime Noucome because the MC got a 'curse of two choices' and how the main girl dressed looks like Choco.. Main girl is a total qt all the time and has a bit of that tsundere personality.

Here's the story, if you want to know...

The main girl(Sera) is a demon. 7 years ago, She was summoned from some spirit world by MC and his friends, that includes the heroines, to grant their wishes.

In order for Sera to grant their wishes, they need to go in a contract with her and some compensation. Sera demanded their 'Love' as a compensation for the contract. MC and his friends made the deal and got their wishes granted.

After that, MC and his friends didn't remember what happened. They have no idea what their relationship was and their wishes back 7 years ago. MC got the 'curse of two choices' now. He has no idea why he got this curse because he didn't remember.

Now, Sera went back to the human world to find MC, because she's in love with him and also wants to null the contract because of it. She's in love with him because the 'Love' she got was too powerful to contain in her. The heroines got a big crush on MC back 7 years ago and the 'Love' they paid to Sera was too unbearable for her to handle that she confesses to MC when they both met.

They're in a mess trying to fix them up and blah blah blah...

The more I play Gunjou the more surprised I am at how high quality it is. It's like I had forgotten how good VNs can really be. I don't want to just lavish praise onto it, especially since I've only been reading for cumulatively a hour or two, but I'm already rethinking my perspective on a lot of games simply because they're far worse and didn't manage a fraction of this... intelligence? Finesse? Basically, the writing is good, and doesn't make me cringe unendlingly like Innocent Bullet and other games that try to be mature and deep but fail miserably. Gunjou just is mature naturally and smoothly.

I'm using Visual Novel Reader for my VNs, it works great and shows some pretty good translations that allow me to always understand everything, but there is one thing that bothers me, it doesn't seem to translate options and choices. Sometimes even names, but that's not a big deal because characters mentions them often, it's the VNs with choices the MC has to make that are problematic, it never once recognizes them. Is there a solution to this?
Also wondering a couple of things, though not a big deal, is there a way to tell it to not translate numbers or non-Japanese characters, for partially translated novels? Any tips to improve the translation in general? I use LEC Power Translator and it works great and everything, but sometimes it refuses to translate some things and just leaves them in Japanese. Locations and names are especially victim to this.

It relies on text hooks to pull the text from the game. Usually choices and such are in a separate hook from the dialog box. You can see all available hooks in text settings and can define what it takes from there.
As for unstranslated (or often mistranslated) parts, there's not really a lot you can do beyond improving your own understanding of the language. It relies on dictionaries to translate and some things, like names, rare words and some more unique concepts, will never be translated because they aren't in the said dictionary.
That said, /vg/ can probably help you more with it.

Sometimes options are part of the same text thread, sometimes they're a different one and sometimes you're shit out of luck. I usually play with a walkthrough anyway (especially after my first playthrough), so it's not much of a problem for me.
Just pause it when you're reading untranslated parts.
I manually add translations for names and some common terms (unique to the game's setting, for example) and such.
TTS to read the MC's or other unvoiced lines helps me a lot. You can just hotkey it.

Having Shou disappear in the other dimension would've introduced a whole bunch of confusion and drama upon returning, which in turn would've distracted from the overall plot of each arc. There's no way they could've made that work and maintained the coherence and distinct thematic value of each route. In amane and kururi's routes what happened that really matter is time traveling. Parallel world thing is redundant and not even necessary here.
In routes where returning to his own world is crucial to the story like Suzuno and sakurako, no one needs to remember who MC is and the time they spent with him. Only the girls and MC need to, which isn't asking too much for a little miracle (Suzuno doesn't even need it as she has the anti-memory loss device).
I don't see how parallel world/time traveling does anything in mayuri's route, would appreciate if you could tell me (if it did).
The problem with this "what you did in the parallel world also happened in the original world is that" is that the two worlds are too much alike. The only real differences I see is that 1) yui does not exist 2) MC'd father did not die 4 years ago. Others are trivial. Hey, which is why MC does not realize there is such thing as parallel world, or thinks of it as a dream, unless Suzuno just straight-up tells him that.
One other question I have, how is mayuri' route the best when they didn't even solve the forced marriage issue and left it with a wife stealer joke?

I personally liked Maya a huge amount more than any of the heroines in HoshiOri, but I didn't care about any of the other heroines in Hatsukoi after finishing her route, but then again none of the heroines in HoshiOri really appealed to me at all so I was quite disappointed with the game.

The issue with having only the girls and MC keep their memories is that they're basically all the characters in the story - how would you show that everyone doesn't know him? Plus, the parallel worlds isn't supposed to be obvious - it's something you find out in Suzuno's route, not know immediately after one route. The changes they do have are sufficient, like Yui not being there at all - it shocked me immensely when I realised post-switch there was no Yui in all but one routes.
I'll agree Mayuri's route ended a bit abruptly and left a few too many questions unanswered, but that doesn't change how amazing it was. I still remember that fantastic unique music and Mayuri's wonderful voice, it really was great. Yui's route is my favourite though.

Overall its kinda weak, especially compared to other good gameplay titles of this year.
Once you figure how gameplay works, its way too easy. My team was easily pulverizing all incoming enemies without even single loss.
Story is so-so too. Not bad, not particularly good.
Its okay game if you look for some light gameplay-spiced h-scenes and pseduo-fantasy fun, but you would be disappointed if start it with any kind of expectations.

It was done by "team ++", with completely new writer instead guys who made every single softhouse chara game before, so maybe main team is working on something else now.

or you could just move the damn torrent into external HD and install the game from there. Literally the same as installing from the game DVD.

Almost done with the Prologue in Monobeno, Natsuha has just aged.

For the route order, is it best to go Sumi -> Alice -> Natsuha, same way they are lined up in the scene select?

Other than doing Natsuha last (which is locked anyway I believe), it doesn't really matter. Sumi's route is better than Alice's, if that helps you decide.

You can actually do Natsuha's right after Sumi's after story IIRC, but you should probably do Alice's anyways.

Alice's is not nearly as good as Sumi's though. I honestly skimmed through a lot of it.
