I have an identity problem I guess.

I've lived my whole life in Finland, and I only understand swedish, since my grandfather always spoke it to me.
I can change my nationality to Finnish if wanted it, but I'm too attached to my Swedish side of my family to do that, plus I hate my father and I want nothing to do with him.
But I still want to go to the army, but I'd have to be Finnish to do that. Also, I want a passport, but I'd need to visit Stockholm to get it.
Even though I'm not, I think of myself as Finnish person outside of my family and I act like a Finnish person here and outside (shitting on Sweden, hating immigrants, etc.).

Thanks to my father who did a whole lot of genealogy before he died, he was able to trace his lineage back to 9th century Byzantine Empire. I can trace back to my family in the Netherlands in the early 17th century. The Dutch side came to New Amsterdam (NYC) in the mid 17th century, but pretty much stayed Dutch all throughout, even after migrating down to VA. My Grandmother is descended from a large group of Huguenots who settled in present day SC during the 18th century. The Welsh side of my family came in the mid 19th century. I'm too embarrassed to say that I'm a mutt so i just say I'm Dutch, my last name, despite being anglicized, is still obviously Dutch. I have blonde hair (not pure blonde like actual Dutch people do) and blue eyes, and obviously white skin, so I pass as Dutch to Americans.

Direct ancestors go back to 1750, distant relatives go back to 1450. There's about a dozen foreigners (mostly Germans) on there, but most were married in a very distant branch.

It'd be really difficult to discern whether that Norwegian had 20% Dane and 2 % Swede in him so I suppose you're correct in that statement. It's probably more interesting for immigrants and people who know of foreign ancestors. Most of us in Scandinavia seem to get close to 100% Scandinavian from what I've seen.

My Aunt on my mums side has copies of all the birth records, and they all seem to stem from one village called Eyam and thats where the trail ends.
My nan on my dad's side has done similar research but its not as detailed

Oh right, things are easy when they're confined like that. Part of my family has resided in Paris since around the XIVth century, which is quite rare, but what it means for the birth records is that they're divided up between almost all the churches of Paris, and it'd be a nightmare to actually go through all of them.

There's probably one far-off family member that probably tried compilimg something once, but I wouldn't know since I don't really like talking about my interest for this to my family.

My uncle tracked one side back to the Great Northern War, where the Tsar used the church chronicles to heat the church office in our town where he stayed. Fucking asshole.

My mother's side ends a bit earlier since it was done by another guy. I don't have the full 200 pages book they produced, though. Need to digitalize that soon.
