Reading Barakamon. I like it so far, I'm 3 volumes in, but it's difficult to start off because of the dialect they use.

(pic related) I loved the parts in Yotsubato where a group of characters would go on a trip somewhere (camping, the beach, the farm) and they would talk in the car and on the train, and look at scenery, etc. It was my favorite part of the manga. I'm somewhere in intermediate hell, with 3500 cards mature in Core 6K. Even if it's probably above my difficulty level pls recommend, that way I can read it once I get good.

Quick question:
Would I benefit more from putting a hold on learning my 6k in Anki and studying the KanjiDamage deck for mnemonics, focusing on the 6k, or a mix of both at the same time?

I'm about 800 cards in and I feel like the mnemonic devices I create on my own aren't that great but it's the most helpful method to memorizing some of the more complex kanji, personally speaking. But I feel as if I could remember them more efficiently if I had a better method of creating mnemonic imagery or just adopting some preexisting ones.

If you ever have a chance to go to one of the stores, I highly recommend it. They're full fledged Japanese bookstores, and they have a huge variety of materials that you would expect from a general bookseller: magazines, manga, LNs, novels, cookbooks, childrens books, nonfiction, even a wide selection of Japanese language learning material. The only time I went to Japan was before I started learning the language so I couldn't appreciate how fun it was to go to the bookstores there, but luckily I live near one of these now.

Probably with Americans because its something interesting. Speaking any second language in america fluently (besides spanish) definitely gives you some social capital. there isn't any javascript, it's all html and styling
the reason why it crashes on anons device is because the page is ~4.2mb
if it were to be broken into smaller chunks it would load better but be less useful
an offline version would lose all of the notes from the intermediate and advanced parts. those are images and not text. the notes are what makes that grammar reference in particular so useful
but a pdf would work better for phones and tablets if the browser crashes because the browser will fall apart all the same with a plain text version, as it already is plain text in nature. there are free pdf and ebook readers on the google play store than can handle large files with ease

I used to have trouble remembering the 米 and 女 radicals in 数. It's not technically a mnemonic but tried to picture a woman pouring grains of rice in her hand in order to count. That way the rice is falling on the woman, so 米 is above 女.

Jokes aside, Anki glitched and I had to redo my reviews for the day. I couldn't be arsed to so I basically hit good for two minutes straight.


In other Anki related news, I finally dropped production cards. My advice for anyone interested in them:
Do it if you want to. But drop them eventually, after maybe 2000 or so.

The goals for me were:
- To learn how to write.
- To remember words better.
- To be able to come up find the words when writing.

The cons are:
- It makes core twice bigger, so completing it is twice as long.
- There are many synonyms, and core doesn't usually delve in the nuances, so unless you make notes it's hard to tell what the word actually is.
- That last point means that you end up learning a lot of metadata. For instance, if I see "operation, management, administration", I know that this is 運営, while "management, operation" is 経営. Both words are listed as meaning operation, management, administration and other shit on jisho, so this is pretty much worthless.
This point is probably the worst drawback to production cards, but I think it could be avoided by not being retarded.

In conclusion, while I have learnt a lot from production cards, it has come to a point where the cons exceed the pros.
In the last month, production cards have become so exhausting and so time consuming that I've decided to drop them.

Ah, I guess I should add. This is also one reason I've stopped production card. At this point, I associate kanji to their 音読み, so when I learn a word, I just makes weird links.
Like, I'll either know the pronounciation and pretty much instantly remember the kanji from the pronounciation, or I'll remember how it's written and remember the pronounciation for there.

i got up to 800 words in the core2k anki deck but was extremely busy with exams and fell behind and now i have 300 cards to review. Should I just start over or something?

Is it possible in anki to like skip the first 400 cards or something?

KKLC might be nice for the kanji list, their meanings and the example vocab, but the only effective mnemonics are the ones you create yourself, just break it done into it's radicals and come up with a little story.

Also creating them for every kanji is bullshit, I only create one for kanji I can't fucking remember no matter how hard I try.
