I'm a bit confused by the usage of も here (title of an article):

I translated this as "Stores where you are able to enjoy both table tennis and meals in Shibuya, Tokyo."

Am I translating it as "also" correctly here? Are they referring to the other (e.g. [You can enjoy meals] You can also enjoy table tennis / [You can enjoy table tennis] You can also enjoy meals)? The double usage is kind throwing me off.

It comes down to your tolerance on looking up words.
I started at 6k. You can start with 2k and already have a somewhat decent ratio of reading/looking up shit.

You can even start at 0, but I would certainly go mad from it. If you read Tae Kim and do Core 2k, in 2~3 months you'll be ready to read without much headaches.

Let's supposed I am a really good chef. I write to a Japanese restaurant, they get interested in my skills and want me to work there. Can the restaurant give me a greenlight to entering Yamato somehow?

I find that Anki gives anons all the tools in the world yet they seem to stick to everything in the DJT Anki guide then later complain about how boring their cards are to look at, or how tedious it all is, or how they are frustrated that one field isn't showing up where they want it, etc. as though they haven't bothered to explore a tool they will be using every single day for a long time.

I can't learn Japanese.

If I've only practiced reading, but have finished a few VNs, is it normal that I'm still completely shit at listening without some form of text assistance, or is that supposed to come naturally? If I wanted to practice listening specifically, would anime with Japanese subtitles be a good idea, or would I probably just focus too much on the subtitles and not really get anything more than normal reading out of it?

Is there a reason as to why the causative is used both to force an action and allow an action?
I can understand things like why 聞く can be used for both "to hear" and "to ask" but I haven't been able to reason about why the causative is the way it is and put it in terms I can settle with.

I'm doing fine with kanji/vocab thanks to Anki and my listening skills are fine because I live in fucking Japan, but I'm having trouble with production.

I was thinking of writing a context-free grammar generator: something that would spit out random, grammatically-correct (but not necessarily logical) English sentences, and then I'd translate them to Japanese. Maybe do ten a day in addition to all my other reps. I'd specifically code in constructs that map to common Japanese grammar.

Here's what today's deck look like. Seems its gone back to the 49 that I was stuck on and cycling through. and its also added the new cards due for review today.

I haven't had this happen to me before, from my understanding I haven't missed out on anything and all my reviews should be there that need to be due only the new card limit that I have set is what I missed out on, which can easily be compensated with using the custom study feature and doing the same amount of new cards that I missed out on completing.

If you want to get into this you need to start learning Japanese grammar terms. In Japanese there are six basic conjugational forms for all inflected words: 未然形 not-yet-complete (imperfective) form, 連用形 predicate-modifying form, 終止形 sentence-final form, 連体形 nominal-modifying form, 仮定形 hypothetical form, 命令形 imperative form. They always go in this order because for 五段verbs (u-verbs) they end in -a, -i, -u, -u, -e, -e (alphabetical order) that way.

In Japanese, i-adjectives are called 形容詞 and their six conjugations go like this, using 早い as the example:

In classical Japanese, however, there were two different sub-types of 形容詞, ク活用 and シク活用, and both had two different conjugation patterns. The second pattern is based on attaching the verb あり to the 連用形, which then morphed fromくあり into かり. The かり form is used for attaching to auxiliary verbs. It should be noted that in classical Japanese (文語) the 仮定形 was called the 已然形 and had a different function.

ク活用, 高し (items in parenthesis exist but are not usually used):

Over time, the き of the 連体形 was shortened into い, and just like with verbs the 終止形 was absorbed into the 連体形 so that the し and き endings are both just い today, and the シク conjugation is just a normal 形容詞 that ends in しい. The modern 未然形 ~かろcomes from the classical かり 未然形 ~から plus the auxiliary う being pronounced かろう. The alternate 連用形 ~かっ that comes before the perfective/past-tense auxiliary た is from the old ~かり plus pefective たり being shortened from ~かりたり to ~かったり. I'm just using the chrome app Yomichan on a text file of the book. It automatically makes the cards so that's another reason i'm added them up so fast.
It makes an example sentence from the text and finds audio of the word. Then it adds the definition and the reading below it.
I set it up so the front of the card is either the word or just audio.

I've seen all of those inflection terms mentioned before in the dictionary I use but I hadn't yet really investigated them. I'll definitely look more into this. I had an anonymous conversation in /jp/ once with someone who spoke as though he were the one writing a guide called Imabi and he had called a 補助動詞 an auxiliary verb. He seemed to coalesce that "supplementary verb" was correct but didn't admit he was wrong either. I've never read his guide so I don't know which he actually uses there. Just to make up for it, I definitely don't consider 補助動詞 and 助動詞 to be the same kind of word, it's just hard to give them different names in english without introducing uncommon jargon. But if Imabi were to call them both auxiliary verbs in english I'd probably cave and call 補助動詞 supplementary verbs just to one-up him in one more way.

There's also the problem with giving reasonable english jargon for 動詞,非自立 and 動詞,非自立可能 but I don't even want to touch that.

Is learning solely for fun a good enough reason to commit thousands of hours of my own life to learning Japanese? I don't watch much anime and would probably only put to good use with the occasional import, though I'd make it a priority to visit Japan occasionally to exercise it, even if it's halfway moot since I hear the country does a good enough job of accommodating non-moonspeakers.

But yeah, that's it. I've already learned Kana and have started learning my grammar, kanji, and vocab. I take it at a casual pace, and it's fun, but is that really a good enough reason? I'm fully aware this language will be functionally useless to me beyond mundane bullshit, but I like studying it and seeing my knowledge pay off by understanding shit.

Feels like an answer I should be able to answer myself, you know, just committing to what I think is fun, but because it's gonna be a serious lifetime commitment, I can't help but wonder what y'all would say. Sorry for the wall of text, and thanks in advance.

Is there any big differences I should know about between ことができる and ことはできる? Off hand, I see it like this, speaking as literally as possible:

狩ってくることができます。 = I can go hunt (and come back).
狩ってくることはできます。 = As for going to hunt (and coming back), that I can do.

So basically both are still potential, but the は one has that added nuance of contrast with other things.

I think your interpretation is correct. That "nuance of contrast" is the basic meaning that は adds to a word or phrase as a bound particle. It is similar to the other 終止形-bound bound particle も, which adds a "nuance of similarity" instead. は is for something that is different from other things, も is for something that is the same as other things. が is just a case particle.

Thanks, yeah I think I am really due for more grammar study and review. I'm building my confidence more and more to use the Japanese language resources that are all over the Internet, but people like you that use the actual Japanese grammatical terms make for a much appreciated and smoother transition. If you'd be willing to help me with one more question: These は・も particles, they don't always have the contrast/similarity nuance, right? Like は could just be a topic particle, right? For は, I typically think "topic marker? contrast? emphasis?" and for も I think ""too"? emphasis?", and maybe it's a wrong impression but I've been keeping their uses separate when trying to translate a text.
