How common are non jouyou kanji in writing? Seems like I just got introduced to 20 or so around the 2k mark in core.
I expected half of the words to say "usually written in kana" in Jisho but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Many are extremely common, more so than some jouyou kanji. There's no reason to care about whether a kanji is on the jouyou list. Once you hit about 3000 kanji through mining rather than following an arbitrary list it'll get rare-ish to find new ones.

Er, I don't really know. What do you mean by memorize? I don't think I've ever really "learned" the radicals, but I can recognize them well enough to be able to search by them. I think it's something that you pick up with exposure, like seeing 豚, 腕, 脚, etc., realizing they have a common radical, and figuring out that it means "meat, flesh".

I ain't trying to take a side here, but for the record, there's a difference between books that are written/assigned to make young adults happy (like The Hunger Games) and books that are assigned to make young adults suffer in school (The Great Gatsby, The Cather in the Rye, etc...). I'm not a native speaker but this is how I'd explain the sentence. So keep in mind that I might have gotten something wrong.

>くず (屑) literally: "trash", I translated it as "stuff"
>って clipped form of "というのは/が"
This means this clause can be paraphrased as: "クズというのが出てくる" = "trash pops up"

The の attached to the clause nominalizes the clause. Literally: "クズって出てくるの" = "The circumstance that trash pops up"

The speaker also left out a は after 出てくるの.

消えるの the の here is used as an emphasis/question particle.

A more formal version of the second part of the sentence would read:

I think you'r overthinking this. Both are fine.

Bit I noticed that I switched the order of itadaku and kudasaru around. Itadaku is the polite alternative to morau of course.

Mite itadaite arigatou gozaimasu. I'd probably use it like that (or one of the even more polite fixed expressions that there are in Japanese).

It could be someone referring to previously discussed place the listener understands.

Yes, but, like everything, there are some you will never actually hear being used, because there are more common nouns that take its role.

There are quite a lot of nuanced differences between ha and ga.

One main difference is which part of the sentence/clause gets stressed.

For example: 私は若い "I am young". The stress here is on the piece of information "someone is young" (and that someone happens to be me).

私が若い。 on the other hand means "I am young", in the sense "It is I that is young". So if someone asked: "Who is young, you said?" you'd say: "私が若い。"

That's why you use が、when you saz that something is there: "There is a cast here" / "猫がいる。"

That's one main difference. There are more. I could explain a second one, if you want to.
